B12
- Last Days of Silence 2CD (B12) [B12019CD] $17.75
"Some 12 years since the classic Time Tourist album (Warp), the
rightful
follow-up to B12's critically acclaimed and landmark first LP Electro Soma
(also on Warp) the recently re-launched B12 are back as both label and
seminal electronic act.
Gas
- Nah Und Fern 4CD (KOMP 066CD). CD (Kompakt) [KOMP066CD] $28.75
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
The Kompakt label presents the work of Wolfgang Voigt's Gas - a
remastered
deluxe package that includes all four of his Mille Plateaux albums: Gas
(1996), Zauberberg (1997), Königsforst (1998) and Pop (2000).
Wolfgang
Voigt, in the past known under a great many pseudonyms such as Mike Ink,
Studio 1 or Grungerman, is the driving force behind the rise of Cologne
minimal techno and also Kompakt's co-founder and co-owner. In the 1980s,
Voigt began working under a concept he named BLEI - extracting elements
from classical, polka, brass music, electronic pop and German schlager
sounds to form a distinguished and unique pop music style that would fit in
with the subculture at that time. In the early 1990s, influenced by techno,
Voigt began to experiment with a timbal marching through strongly
alienated, free-floating string loops. These elegiac tracks, their lack of
beginning and end, their intoxicating, smooth and partly amorphous
structure sounded to him like evaporating gas and thus - Gas was born. Gas
is the vision of a sonic body between Schönberg and Kraftwerk,
between
French horn and bass drum. Gas is Wagner goes glam rock, and Hansel and
Gretel on acid. Gas takes you on a seemingly endless march through the
woods into the discotheque. Reducing the material to its basic aesthetic
structure by using different zoom, loop and alienation techniques, he
releases it from its original meaning and context, creating a kind of
aesthetic essence, a cave to get lost inside. There are one or two new
tracks and versions, but both Voigt and Jörg Burger decided to keep
remastering light, maintaining Gas' purity and authenticity. This 4CD box
comes in a special and stylish collector's format, including 4 small
artwork prints.

Horsepower - Live March 2001 2CD (Alternative Tentacles) [VIRUS384]
$14.50
***Despite their official dissolution a few years ago, 16
HORSEPOWER casts a long shadow that colors the gothic Americana genre
today. Ex-members' bands (WOVEN HAND, LILIUM, etc.) are engaging and
critically lauded, but the demand for posthumous 16 Horsepower releases
never seems to cease. Live March 2001 is a live recording of one of 16
Horsepower's classic, best recorded shows, and the band's intoxicating
material becomes even more potent on stage, making this a must-have
release. Their instrumentation transforms the usually lighthearted banjo
and squeezebox into the loneliest choir that accompanies the smoldering
voice of DAVID EUGENE EDWARDS. Often likened to Nick Cave and the Bad
Seeds, 16 Horsepower definitely has that laudanum-soaked aura, but is
firmly rooted in Americana. Unlike their contemporaries, however, they aim
beyond popular music in the key of sad and delve right into the human
condition for something weighty and substantial. No exports outside North
America.
A.A. Bondy - American Hearts CD (Fat Possum) [FP1112]
$13.50
***REISSUED!!! After his former band VERBENA scored a deal with
Capitol Records and released two records with them, SCOTT BONDY (aka A.A.
BONDY) decided to call it quits and persue a solo career. Although American
Hearts was recorded at a barn in upstate New York, it is hard not to
recognize Bondy's influence from his home state of Alabama.
Absolute Body Control - Wind (Re)Wind CD (Daft) [09480]
$18.00
Influenced by bands from the German and UK electronic scene, Dirk Ivens
(synths & voice) formed ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL early 1980 , and was joined
by Mark De Jonghe (synths) and Veerle De Schepper (backing vocals).
After releasing a track on the "Blitzpop 1" compilation and the release of their first 7" single "Is There An Exit?" (1981), wich became a local underground hit, Mark left the band. Eric Van Wonterghem, who was in fact a spectator at the first ABC concert, filled in the gap and became Dirk's new musical partner for years to come.
Before they decided to go on as a duo, ABC already appeared on several compilation albums and tapes worldwide. Soon ABC became on of the first Belgian electronic acts who proved to be succesfull on stage. In total ABC released 4 tapes and in 1984 Dirk became a member of "The Klinik", followed by Eric who left after the 2nd album to form Insekt.
In 1989 they released their last tape "Tracks" wich contained all ABC compilation contributions so far, but the band was put on non active well before. However, the public intrest was still there and resulted in the release of the first and only ABC cd so far, "Eat This" (1993) on the German VUZ records. Many people re-discovered the band and ABC releases became much sought after collector items. Still, it took them over 22 years to reform and play at festivals like Tinitus (Sweden) , BIM Fest (Belgium) and Wave Gotik Treffen (Germany). Meanwhile, their entire backcatalogue is available through Tarantulla (Lost/Found) and Vinyl On Demand (Tapes 81 - 89).
With the release of WIND[RE]WIND, wich
contains newly recorded versions of their best tracks so far and the
brandnew EP "NEVER SEEN", containing a remix by The Horrorist and a tour
........................ what else and what more could the ABC fans desire
for?!
Acorn - Blankets! CD (Kelp) [KP045] $8.25
***REISSUED!!! Nestled proudly in the cultural bubble between
Canada's musical hotbeds of Montreal and Toronto, THE ACORN make their home
in the fertile swamplands of Ottawa, Ontario. Anchored by vivid songwriting
and eclectic instrumentation, The Acorn produce an original brand of
experimental, popular folk music that effortlessly marries modern and
traditional forms. Blankets a more melodically focused effort showcasing
the bands emerging synthesis of experimental folk and pop. Already at this
point, the band was garnering considerable praise from CBC radio and campus
radio stations across the country. On tour in the US now.
Acorn - Pink Ghosts CD (Kelp) [KP052] $15.00
***REISSUED!!! Nestled proudly in the cultural bubble between
Canada's musical hotbeds of Montreal and Toronto, THE ACORN make their home
in the fertile swamplands of Ottawa, Ontario. Anchored by vivid songwriting
and eclectic instrumentation, The Acorn produce an original brand of
experimental, popular folk music that effortlessly marries modern and
traditional forms. Acorn's first full-length release The Pink Ghosts, is
mostly-instrumental tribute to the Ottawa region, and was originally
released in July 2004 on Ottawa's Kelp Records and firmly planted the band
as a strong new presence in the Canadian independent music landscape. On
tour in the US now.
Akane Hosaka - Niko Niko Denki Muzic CD (Sonore) [SON-27]
$16.25
RELEASE DATE: 06-09-2008
With her lunging rhythms and deliciously retro melodies, Akane Hosaka
catapults us into a world of gleeful wallabies and drummer-boy monkeys. Her
discovery of music came through song, and only later led to instrumental
experimentation. References to her early influences, the 60s and 70s
precursors of electropop, are deliberate, there for all to see: Raymond
Scott, Perrey & Kingsley or Yellow Magic Orchestra. Nevertheless her true
inspiration is from the visual world and lies in graphic forms and
architectural fantasy: Keiji Ito, Archigram or Bruno Munari. For her, these
images evoke music that she then sets about transcribing. Naturally
reserved, she's a perfectionist in her work. Seeing her in the studio is
like watching a blacksmith in the smithy, as she bends her music into the
required shapes. Her compositions are like pastel-coloured soap bubbles in
extra-bright Super 8.
Akiko Kiyama - Seven Years CD (District Of Corruption)
[DOC001CD] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
This is the debut full-length release by Tokyo and Berlin-based Akiko
Kiyama. Kiyama is a classically-trained musician turned electronic music
composer and live performer. She began composing techno and performing live
in Tokyo in 2002. Her first solo EP Dimension, was released on Sud
Electronic in October 2004 and received great reviews by top world-class
DJs. In November 2005, one of her tracks was licensed by M-nus and was
selected by Richie Hawtin in his well-received mix, DE9 Transitions. She
has also released music on labels such as Contexterrrior, op.disc, Safari
Electronique, Revolver, and, of course, District of Corruption. Kiyama's
last DoC record hit #1 on the Cisco Distribution (Japan) charts for techno.
Seven Years is a milestone for Akiko, showing the depth and range which
encompasses her composition.

Ambassador 21 - Justified Thirst For Blood CD (Invasion)
[09482] $18.75
Following after their harsh and merciless album "F*** All $y$tem$"
here is
the new release from AMBASSADOR21. This CD has tracks which were released
between 2002 and 2007 and two versions recorded live in Paris and Florence
during Fuck All Systems Tour 2007. Here are everything which describes
sound of AMBASSADOR21 - grinding wall of sound, massive distorted beats,
heavy breaks, sharp guitar riffs and, of course, AMBASSADOR21 trademark -
ferocious duel of vocals plus hard-as-nails lyrics. Uncompromising heavy
electronics - this is "Justified Thirst For Blood".

B.
Dolan - Failure CD (Strange Famous) [SFR012] $9.50
***Somewhere at the darkest fringe of the griot tradition exists B.
DOLAN, effortlessly shifting shape between rapper, poet, clown, activist
and performance artist. Dolan appeared on Sage Francis' Death Dance Tour
and Buck 65's International Situation Tour, captivating audiences from
coast to coast and announcing himself as a formidable new presence in the
worlds of lyricism, performance art, and political action. Since 2001, a
series of gritty, spectacular performances have earned Dolan considerable
notoriety; both for their controversial and challenging subject matter,
and
the brutal intensity with which they are delivered. The Failure, Dolan's
debut release, represents the most comprehensive collection of his
recordings, works, and performances to date. Dolan joined Francis on the
Knowmore.org Tour in support of the site, which is when Francis expressed
interest in releasing a revised version of The Failure (previously
released
as a demo in 2003) on his genrebending Strange Famous Records label. Dolan
undertook the task of completely reworking the concept album to the point
where the end result didn't have a single track in common with its
predecessor. Only the story remains the same. Features SAGE FRANCIS, SOLE
AND THE SKYRIDER BAND and production from ALIAS, REANIMATOR and KURTIS SP.
No Exports.
Bill Dixon - 17 Musicians In Search of a Sound: CD (Aum
Fidelity) [AUM046CD] $12.25
No description available at this time.
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Lie Down in the Light CD (Drag City)
[DC367CD] $12.75
RELEASE DATE: 05-20-2008
"Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is letting the sun shine in so you can Lie Down
In
The Light. Before you get undressed, we're talking about a brand-new
twelve-song album of excellent new songs and sounds, okay? Get that thong
back up your crack and listen! Bristling with guitar strings and laced
with
harmonies, Lie Down In The Light is the brightest album to date from the
Bonnie 'Prince.'"
Boris - Smile CD (Southern Lord) [SUNN92] $14.00
***Upon reflection of the aftermath of releasing their most
successful album to date-Pink-BORIS has found the desire to create sounds
that are a wider extension of just simply music. They are searching for
sounds that are also an extension of life and the many experiences they've
had since Pink's release two years ago. Drawing on hair metal, Japanese
cartoon songs, and 1980s Japanese pop singers to help shape their new
direction, the band delivers another evolutionary step in their broad
based
sound. Blistering psychedelia, mammoth hooks, innovative songwriting and a
reinvention of dark heaviness all get their due. Features guest
appearances
from STEPHEN O'MALLEY and MICHIO KURIHARA.
Bulbs - Light Ships CD (Freedom To Spend) [FTS001] $13.25
***The debut release on the new label founded by PETE SWANSON of
YELLOW SWANS. BULBS features former AXOLOTYL member WILLIAM SABISTON and
JON ALVAREZ, and Light Ships finds the duo at their most psychedelic and
pointillistic. They occupy an odd space between the gloss of Kompakt
records minimalism, the glue huff ambiguity of a band like Mouthus, and
the
stuttering clicks and confusion of a Han Bennik/Derek Bailey duo. There's
a
lot of movement from more acoustic to more electronic sounds, from more
straight rhythmic patterns to totally elliptical percussive gurgling, from
understanding what's going on to not having any sort of idea who is doing
what to whom. Despite all these shifts and potential contradictions, the
music manages to be entirely cohesive and the record is surprisingly easy
on the ears. Everything here has its place.
Cannabis Corpse - Tube Of The Resinated CD (Forcefield)
[FF009] $10.25
***The second full-length from Richmond, Virginia's death metal
supergroup CANNABIS CORPSE. Everything is bigger and better than last
year's Blunted at Birth, the recording is huge and the artwork is epic
beyond belief. The band fuse together the best elements of old-school
Tampa
death metal with the essence of marijuana to create a really stoned out
sound. Brutal vocals, sick riffs and tight drumming all under the
influence. Features members of MUNICIPAL WASTE, BATTLEMASTER, and
PARASYTIC. LP version to be released by Robotic Empire.
Cassette Boy - Carry On Breathing CD (Barry's Bootlegs)
[BAZ014CD] $17.75
"'Tis indeed a great pleasure to welcome back infamous cut-up
terrorists
Cassette Boy to their original home on Barry's Bootlegs."
Cath & Phil Tyler - Dumb Supper CD (No-fi) [NEU008CD]
$17.25
"Cath & Phil have been stars of the Northeast underground scene for
the
last 3 years, sharing stages with Six Organs Of Admittance, Papa M,
Charalambides and many more. Cath is originally from New Jersey, US and
(as
Cath Oss) was a long-time member of the renowned Cordelia's Dad and IO,
and
part of the shape singing quartet Northampton Harmony."
Cheap Time - Cheap Time CD (In The Red) [ITR152] $12.00
***Henderson, Tennessee's JEFFREY NOVAK is a name familiar to those
who pay attention to the whole lo-fi-garage-punk underbelly of today's
indie scene. He's released a handful of singles and at least one album on
labels in the US and Europe as a one-man-band and with his former group,
THE RAT TRAPS. He's been at it for nearly five years and he's barely in
his
twenties. CHEAP TIME is his newest and most serious endeavor to date.
Founded with JEMINA PEARL and NATHAN VASQUEZ of BE YOUR OWN PET, Cheap
Time
set out to recapture the essence of teenage schlock rock scuzz of such
heroes as Redd Kross and The Runaways. Along the way, members shifted, as
did the band's direction. An obsession with '70s glam power pop a la
Sparks, The Quick, and Milk 'n' Cookies grew, and the music took on a
twisted new slant never hinted in any of his previous projects. The
results
are the current line-up of Cheap Time and this full-length album. Cheap
Time's self-titled debut is 28 minutes of snotty punk pop perfection. On
tour with Jay Reatard this spring!
Dan Modlin /dave Scott - The Train Don't Stop Here Anymore CD
(Mandrax) [MX803CD] $22.75
No description available at this time.
Deaf Machine - Found Noises CD (Raubbau) [09479] $17.50
-the groups in the nyköping/oxelösund region of sweden
(megaptera, the
protagonist, morthound) have been thoroughly documented in the past.
however, one crucial missing link of this micro-scene has been overlooked,
and not given the deserved recognition. until now, that is. mikael
svensson, founding member of megaptera, also did his own project deaf
machine but it vanished without leaving many traces behind. besides a
couple of wildly obscure self-released tapes, the only other artifacts
were
contributions to seminal compilations such as "in the butcher's backyard"
(cmi) and "death odors" (slaughter prod.). not content to rest on their
laurels after the successful inaugural release by ordo rosarius
equilibrio,
the fresh german label raubbau has decided to highlight deaf machine with
an ambitious re-release schedule that covers two separate cd albums. this
first one, "found noises", contains one of the tapes, two tracks culled
from compilations, and one previously unreleased track. the similarity
with
megaptera lies in the frequent use of voice samples from movies and news
broadcasts. but whereas megaptera relies on a method of pounding machine
rhythms, deaf machine opted for a subtler approach that is more based on
textures and moods. the mix of muffled voice fragments, disjointed rhythm
loops, and crude, bass-heavy synth-noises sound unlike anything else that
came out of sweden at the time. a unique sound by a neglected artist that
thankfully will no longer remain a secret within the small circles of
cognoscenti.
Desolation Wilderness - Horizon Star CD (Fukdup Records)
[fkdp002] $7.75
RELEASE DATE: 05-05-2008
"Desolation Wilderness is the musical result of an American middle
class
spilling out of the suburbs and turning into light." -Aphonia Recordings
Desolation Wilderness is Nicolas Zwart. Originally hailing from Marin
County and the plastic outskirts of Sacramento, CA, he is now living in
Olympia, WA working on a variety of musical projects and interning at
world-renouned indie label, K Records. A musician of many disciplines, his
solo electronic work took precedence in his late teens after playing with
a
variety of bands. With a few releases under his belt on various net labels
such as Audiotoning, Test Tube, and Aphonia Recordings, we now present
Desolation Wilderness's first official CD release on FKDP Records:
"Horizon
Star". The album "Horizon Star" by Desolation Wilderness offers a
melancholy and personal soundscape for the listener. Poetic melodies and
electronic tones comfort your soul, while Desolation Wilderness weaves a
cozy grey blanket of warm synths and fallen beats for the winter inside.
Dubxanne - Police in Dub CD (Echo Beach) [EB067CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
Introducing DubXanne: a group of Hamburg-based musicians devoted to
bringing out the original dub roots from the biggest band in '70s-'80s
Britain, The Police. At the apex of their career, The Police were a
massive, bleached-blond juggernaut, surfing a new wave sound which valued
intellectual cool and lightly sprinkled ethnic influences over the
discredited rock 'n' roll bluster of old. The first post-punk supergroup.
At the end of 1977, over the Christmas period, Stewart Copeland played
Sting some of his reggae records. When Summers returned to Britain from
his vacation in the United States, he found his bandmates newly inspired
by
Jamaican sounds. Reggae rhythms finally shook The Police free from
post-punk rock convention and the rest has become history - to date, 40
million people all over the world have bought a Police record! The first
recordings for Police In Dub sessions by DubXanne started in September
2006. After exhaustive scrutiny of the Police back catalog at EMI Music
Publishing (which controls and manages the rights for Sting's songs) and
lengthy negotiations with Sting's management team, final consent for the
project was granted in March 2008. Now the world can sit back and look
forward to dub versions of the biggest tunes by The Police.
El
Topo - Pigiama Psicoattivo CD (Off) [OCD006CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-24-2008
Italy's El Topo presents their debut full-length for the Off label.
The
group was founded in 2006, performing a mixture of rock, jazz and
electronica with Krautrock, minimalist and psychedelic elements. Adriano
Lanzi and Omar Sodano have been working collaboratively since 2000,
releasing some tracks on compilation albums as well as a full album (La
Vita Perfetta, 2004) on the German Klangbad label. This is Italian
space-jazz with a touch of Morricone, post-rock, Chicago indie lounge and
weirdo, skronky German Kraut all pieced together in a dramatic pattern.
Band members: Adriano Lanzi (guitar, electronics), Omar Sodano (bass,
electronics), Andrea Biondi (vibes, percussion), Francesco Mendolia
(drums).

Exocet - Violation CD (Ant-Zen) [09476] $17.25
rene klimaczewski a.k.a. klima is well-known for his collaborations
with
artists like converter and architect; he also made well-approved remixes
(for displacer, for example) along with supporting young upcoming
performers like demian, rdr a.k.a. raw state and denizchador on his label
kellermusik, which started seven years ago.
by chance, on a trip to new york city in 2007, he became acquainted with dave kean - an inspirational character and a non-musician with a twisted mind, who left klima stunned with a multiplicity of ideas and extraordinary creative urges. kean became the muse for a new-born named exocet and this album is the first result of this artistic insemination.
violation holds a perfect balance between
technoid complexity and industrial roughness, spliced into a single unit
by
accomplished usage of well-structured rhythmic work. fortifying bass
pulses
and diversified synth chords are enriched with scattered sounds and
voices,
generating powerful undertones of anxiety and threat. turning kean's
guidelines into music, klima developed a one-of-a-kind style of digital
sequences and human sentiment, defining an almost unreal post-industrial
atmosphere. exocet is a crucible of sounds resonating with power and
motion, completed with a pounding, merciless remix by u.s.
electro-industrial legend manufactura - a truly fine conclusion to a
landmark in the neutral zone between electronica and industrial.
Golden Oaks - Paradise CD (Music Fellowship) [MF32] $14.00
***Paradise is free form Appalachian abstraction from the
folk/minimalist duo of KEITH WOOD and BRAD ROSE. Originally released in a
here today, gone tomorrow CDR edition on UK label Barl Fire, this batch
finds these autumn alchemists adding two more songs to the previous
offering of seven soul-soothing hymnals to the wind and the trees and the
sky and the leaves. Tranced-out falsetto drifts atop supple strumming to
create traditional backwoods folk, stressed and compressed by the walls
around them (or lack thereof), making it softer and airier. Their
fractured
take on folk is complimented by multi-layered bowed string and harmonium
drones, created from that same soft and airy palette. As the smoky reverb
of the drones reaches resonance, the spectrum fills and amplitudes peak in
spaced-out bliss.
Greer - Between Two Worlds CD (Erebus Records) [EREBUS007CD]
$17.75
No description available at this time.
Hayden - In Field & Town CD (Fat Possum) [FP11151] $13.50
***The fifth full-length studio albm from HAYDEN. Recorded in his
home studio in Ontario, Canada, the album has been heralded as the album
of
his career since its January release on his own Hardwood Records.
Hiro Yanagida - 2nd Album CD (Showboat/Sky Station)
[SWAX066CD] $25.75
"2nd yanagida hiro album, with Kimio Mizutani at helm, swirling acid
leads,
heavy psych moves with at one point even an acidic Elvis joining the
trip."
Hiro Yanagida - Hirocosmos CD (Showboat/Sky Station)
[SWAX068CD] $25.75
"Top quality eye-popping reissue housed in hard cover mini-LP styled
gatefold sleeve complete with obi and liners of this rare 3rd album by
psychedelic maverick Yanagida Hiro. Another totally vanished and ear
bleedingly rare gem out of Japans psychedelic history, this was Yanagida
Hiro's (ex Apryl Fool, Food Brain, Sato Masahiko & Soundbreakers, Floral,
etc) second solo album released in 1973."
Hospitals - Hospitals CD (In The Red) [ITR103] $12.00
No description available at this time.
House of Fire - House of Fire CD (Universal Warning) [UWR022]
$10.50
RELEASE DATE: 05-12-2008
Formerly HIGHSPIRE. House of Fire cites their main influences as the
psychedelic sound of the 60's. Lacing dense, jangly rhythms and intricate
melodies into impassioned soulful sketches, that evoke spirits of the past
and signs of the future. House Of Fire's debut release promises to be the
soundtrack to your hazy neon scattered afternoon. For fans of the paisley
underground and canyon rock movements of the west coast - or bands like
Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ride, early works from the Byrds and Velvet
Underground just to name a few.
Housemeister - Who Is That Noize? CD (Allyoucanbeat)
[AYCB011CD] $19.00
No description available at this time.
Itoh Kiyoko - 23 Ji No Onna - Love In CD (Showboat/Sky
Station) [SWAX058CD] $25.75
"Identical and deluxe reissue of this deliriously mega rare and hardly
known Itoh Kiyoko record. Normally if you want to score a copy of the
original vinyl you are required to donate most of your vital organs to
some
yakuza-typed black marketer, but luckily enough, this one here is easier
to
attain without ripping out a lung or a liver to pound off. The CD is
housed
in an eye-popping foldout jacket. It was the final album Itoh recorded in
1971 and on this effort she got backed up by again a bunch of Tokyo
underground heavy weights such as J.A. Seazer and Kuni Kawauchi of the
Happenings Four. On this album, Itoh's talent is fully flowering and apart
from merely eargasmatic songs she hushes into being, atmospheric city-life

James Din A4 - Fistel Rose Power CD (Pingipung) [PING014CD]
$18.50

Jamie Lidell - Jim CD (Warp) [WRP160] $13.25
Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles and Paris, Jim takes even further what
was
started with Multiply, finding the balance between the spontaneous
creativity of his raw ideas and the careful craft and polish of a great
record. Jim will switch you on in the morning, move you on the dance-floor
and take you down in the small hours. It's a bold, promiscuously diverse
album, mixing up gospel grooves, sweetly sung and fiercely passionate
soul,
delicately moving ballads, thumping early R & B, synthed-up disco,and even
a touch of 'hillbilly funk'. "I haven't tried to hide the influences,"
says
JAMIE LIDELL, "This is the music I love." But, listen closely and you can
hear Jamie moving in new directions, creating a sound and style that is
entirely his own.
Jay Haze - Love & Beyond CD (Tuning Spork) [TS005CD]
$16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
This is Berlin-based Jay Haze's first full length album since 2005's,
Love
For A Strange World. Love & Beyond finds Jay exploring organic, funky
sounds as much as hypnotic sci-fi territory. With this collection of
all-new material, Jay has cemented his reputation as a studio master,
equally skilled behind the decks as in the clubs. Featuring guest artists
including D: exter, Lil Dirrty Ghetto Bastard and Ricardo Villalobos.
Keiji Haino/Masami Akita - Kikuri CD (Victo) [VICTO110CD]
$14.00
"Two living legends of extreme Japanese music sharing the stage for
the
first time outside their country."
Kenneth Gaburo - Lingua II: Maledetto CD (Pogus) [POGUS21047]
$12.25

Kohoutek - Expansive Headache CD (Music Fellowship) [MF35]
$14.00
***Washington DC-based experimental collective KOHOUTEK plays
improvised psychedelia, ranging from unsettling, discordant noise to
delicate melodies, inspired by the likes of Can, Amon Duul 2, Agitation
Free, Ash Ra Tempel, Trad Gras Och Stenar, Parson Sound, Dead C,
Skullflower, Sun City Girls, Sonic Youth, Bardo Pond, etc., etc. Expansive
Headache is the band's first official CD, following two self-released
recordings, Hair on the Sidewalk, a DVD/CDR on Sockets, and a
collaborative
CDR with Soil Sing Through Me.
Marxy - Forty Years From Now CD (Music Related) [ML20]
$11.50
RELEASE DATE: 05-05-2008
Marxy (W. David Marx) is an American living in Tokyo, Japan. His
second
album Forty Years From Now was recorded over the span of three years in
Japanese apartments, Tokyo rehearsal spaces, a Manhattan living room, an
Astoria, Queens bedroom, and the legendary Brooklyn recording studio
Studio
G. As in his critically-lauded debut album Kyoshu Nostalgia, Marxy
surrounds his catchy pop melodies with musical references to classic
sounds
refracted through modern musical technology. The songs built around
baroque
harpsichord riffs ("Broke Into Our Hearts","Slouching Towards Bethlehem")
and transistor organ solos ("To Save Ourselves") make Forty Years From Now
often reminiscent of The Zombies and other psych pop of the late 1960s,
but
the digital edits, prominent analog synth lines, pulse bass, and chopped
up
beats drive the tracks into new territory, where past and future
intersect.
Forty Years From Now quickly jumps between glitch influenced pop ("See
Saw"), lo-tech garage pop ("Cotillion"), campfire sing-a-long ("Dippy
Dave"), gritty synth rock ("Tachikogi"), and powerhouse rock anthem ("To
Save Ourselves"). The synth-squelch-breakbeat jam of "Cat vs. Mouse"
features a guest lead vocal from U.T. - singer of Japanese art-pop girl
band Kiiiiiii - and intricate production work by Pandatone.
Mole, The - As High As The Sky CD (Wagon Repair) [WAG038CD]
$16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
Montreal's The Mole (Colin De La Plante) releases his debut
full-length
album. A Wagon Repair veteran of numerous singles and member of The Modern
Deep Left Quartet with his comrades from Cobblestone Jazz, The Mole has
established a strong reputation for his jubilant house and humble
attitude.
He's released on Itiswhatitis, collaborated with Paddy from Cobblestone as
the Smokin Posties, created a 5-turntable experimental techno project
referred to mysteriously as the "Starchy Root Machine" and is currently
planning to start a 7" label of disco edits with fellow Canadian Koosh.
Moscow Olympics - Cut the World CD (Lavender Recordings)
[lav003] $13.50
The term "dreampop" got a new and wider meaning when the Philippine
quintet
Moscow Olympics released their debut single on Fraction Discs. Pop as a
dream come true, two tracks that raise their gaze off their shoes, stare
into the skies and fill the unexpected yet somehow eagerly awaited gap in
your record collection - the one between Blueboy's "Unisex" and The Wake's
"Here Comes Everybody". This now is their debut CD.
Nat Baldwin - Most Valuable Player CD (Broken Sparrow)
[BSR4052] $12.00
***Portsmouth, New Hampshire's NAT BALDWIN (ex-DIRTY PROJECTORS) is
a true original. Baldwin is an upright bass player and a singer, but he
takes both of those things to their limit, and has perfected a sound that
he can call entirely his own. His bass playing can be soothing or
jarring-he bows and plucks, taps and scratches-he finds endless different
sounds in his instrument, and it never seems lacking or overplayed. His
voice is a beautiful instrument all it's own. A big, open, oceanic
voice-sultry and sublime. The simple combination of Baldwin's bass and
singing is pure, direct, and timeless. Produced by GRIZZLY BEAR's CHRIS
TAYLOR. Features Dirty Projectors member DAVE LONGSTRETH on guitar.
North Sea - In The Time Of The Sugar Pines CD (Music
Fellowship) [MF34] $14.00
***In the burgeoning underground psych, folk, and noise movement,
THE NORTH SEA's BRAD ROSE serves as both one of its biggest champions and
contributors. His Digitalis Industries imprint, 160-plus release strong
Foxglove CDR series, and Foxy Digitalis online magazine have not just
pushed forward but unearthed many unknown, remote artists in the genre and
helped create and extend the community. Brad has been making his own music
since the mid-'90s and has been a member of such bands as the JUNIPER
MEADOWS, THE GOLDEN OAKS, and THE CONE BEARERS. The North Sea is his solo
experimental / ambient / improvisational folk music project and, like much
of the folk music in the movement, looks to bring together the style of
folk music with the feeling, sound, and aura of nature. In this project,
Rose mixes nature field recordings with a wide variety of stringed
instruments.
Pete Namlook/Klaus Schulze - The Dark Side of the Moog CD
(Ambient World/Fax) [AW004] $16.50

Peter Broderick - Float CD (Type) [TYPE027CD] $14.00
RELEASE DATE: 05-27-2008
This is the debut full-length release from Oregon's Peter Broderick.
In the
last few years, the world has seen its fair share of musicians give up the
trusty guitar in favor of the piano, the banjo and even the French horn,
but rarely do we find a musician who seems so perfectly suited to any and
every instrument he cares to try. Float is the ideal showcase for
Broderick's well-honed instrumental talents, blending his love of folk
music, classical music and good old-fashioned indie-pop. After the release
of his Docile EP on cult Swedish label Kning Disk, there was no doubting
his piano playing skills, but here we see the piano joined by violins,
cello, drums, banjo, guitar, vocals and so much more, resulting in a dense
and varied collection of tracks. An easy comparison might be Efterklang,
the Danish band who Peter currently performs with, but Float could just as
easily be linked to the work of Max Richter, Sylvain Chauveau and the
Portland, Oregon scene which birthed him. Float is an album which has a
definite narrative - a fan of film and film soundtracks, Peter decided
early on to make an album which was not simply a collection of random
tracks.
Philip Jeck - Sand CD (Touch) [TO067CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 05-13-2008
This is Philip Jeck's fifth solo album for Touch. Sand was recorded
live in
Holland and England in 2006/2007 and edited in Liverpool in January, 2008
using Fidelity record players, Casio SK keyboards, a Behringer mixer and
Sony mini-disc recorders. Following Philip Jeck's acclaimed collaboration
with Gavin Bryars and Alter Ego on a new version of The Sinking of the
Titanic, Sand is a set of seven new compositions that highlight Jeck's
mastery of vinyl manipulation and personal and collective memories. During
the past year, Jeck has refined and consolidated his unique sound, playing
superb sets at the Faster Than Sound festival and at York Minster for
Spire. Sand is at once elegiac, celebrational, mournful and uplifting.
Those who have followed Jeck's development since his first release,
Loopholes, will observe his return to the industrial textures that colored
that collection, though here they are fused with his symphonic grace and
continued development as a composer and live performer. Philip Jeck works
with old records and record players salvaged from junk shops, turning them
to his own purposes. He really does play them as musical instruments,
creating an intensely personal language that evolves with each added part
of a record. His is genuinely moving and transfixing music, where we hear
the art, not the gimmick.
Prolyphic & Reanimator - Ugly Truth CD (Strange Famous)
[SFR15] $9.50
PROLYPHIC & REANIMATOR step into hip hop's commercialized wasteland
with a
chip on their shoulder, and an edge sharp enough to scrape the make-up off
with their debut LP, The Ugly Truth. Sage Francis initiated this marriage
of beats and rhymes by connecting a multi-talented producer (Reanimator)
in
Chicago with a highly skilled lyricist (Prolyphic) from his hometown of
Providence. P&R became the first signed rapper/producer duo on the
burgeoning Strange Famous Records label, and now the team is unleashing
their ugly truth on the pseudo-beautiful public. Since his first release
in
2000, Prolyphic has been an active fixture on the indie rap scene, and his
reputation as a lyrical talent is hardwon. On The Ugly Truth, Prolyphic
delivers his strongest work yet, dissecting the status-quo of our lives,
feelings and music. His talent for catchy hooks and infectious wordplay
make these blue collar anthems both entertaining and poignant. With two
tours under his belt and multiple self-released albums in his catalog,
there is no lack of experience or inspiration in Prolyphic's verses. SAGE
FRANCIS, ALIAS, MACROMANTICS and B. DOLAN all appear as guest vocalists.
Proyecto Mirage - Turn It On CD (Ant-Zen) [09475] $17.25
proyecto mirage was founded in 1990 by alicia h. willen and francisco
planellas. they were initially influenced by the classic electro-pop of
the
early nineties (a sound which is still present in their side project
bubble
gum) but the duo was also attracted to industrial-music projects like
s.p.k., whitehouse and - of course - esplendor geometrico. their first
release saw the light of day after nine years, and their creative output
since then has evolved into more complexity. the hard-floor oriented
aggressiveness was enriched with electronic ingredients of all kinds -
ranging from electro and electronic body music to techno, drum'n'bass, or
even sounds similar to those of experimental 'bridging artists' like aphex
twin and pan sonic. artists who share p.m.'s taste for alarming
atmospheres, broken melodies and distorted rhythms.
'turn it on' is the conclusion of more then ten years of progression. lashing high-speed dance floor blasts ('cannibal party'), distorted eighties nostalgia (6 6 5, 9), straight breakbeat excursions ('welcome to life'), pounding four-to-the-floor industrial anthems ('salvation', a collaboration with italian experimental/folk mastermind spiritual front), disturbing experimental-core ('darker bex') - this album is a perfect amalgamation of all facets of the electronic assault culture - all of which is welded together to form a powerful statement that encompasses severity as well as humorous wickedness - nobody expects the spanish inquisition!
this is
what they are, this is where the project is today - take it or leave it.
always keep in mind: proyecto mirage is not just an illusion but a
concrete
reality!
Rick Wade - The Good, the Bad and the Deep CD (Yore Records)
[YRE010CD] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 06-10-2008
This is the first full-length release for Yore Records by Detroit
house
legend Rick Wade. The Good, the Bad and the Deep finds Wade continuing his
very own deep strain of late-night house music he has been drawing upon
since 1991, while still keeping his feet in the future. In fact, when the
artist, DJ, and label head (Harmonie Park and Bass Force) sprinkles a
little Chain Reaction dust over the funky handclapping swing of "Prime
Expansion," Wade acknowledges a relatively recent style before shifting
the
spotlight back to his preferred territory. Wade naturally references
techno
and house but also pulls classic disco, smooth jazz, funk, and Philly soul
into its expansive orbit. One hears traces of Barry White in the soulful
strings that sometimes course through Wade's steaming tracks, Gamble and
Huff in the sparkling arrangements, and The Crusaders' Joe Sample in the
Rhodes flourishes that caress the grooves.
Robert Forster - Evangelist CD (Yep Roc) [YEP2186] $14.00
***ROBERT FORSTER's first album in 11 years, The Evangelist finds
the GO-BETWEENS co-founder as winsome and haunting as ever. Nearly two
years after the death of GRANT McLENNAN, his fellow Go-Between and writing
partner of 30 years, Forster has produced an album that is both wildly
progressive and haunted by the ghost of his artistic soul mate. "Demon
Days," co-written with McLennan shortly before he died, is an all too
telling spine tingling journey into oblivion. "Pandanus" and "Did She
Overtake You?" are lively juggernauts that delightfully reprise the
rhythmic tensions of Spring Hill Fair. "The Evangelist" is a wistful
cousin
to "He Lives My Life" (from The Friends of Rachel Worth) and "From Ghost
Town" is a deeply personal and poignant farewell to a lost brother.
Throughout, The Evangelist is a masterpiece of honesty and compassion.
Sanctum - Lupus in Fabula CD (Cold Meat Industry) [s0668s]

Satanicpornocultshop - Takusan No Ohanasan CD (Vivo)
[vivo200836CD] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 05-05-2008
Japanese Satanicpornocultshop comes back with the new, this time less
experimental, but more melodic material. Takusan No Ohanasan includes 26
perfectly composed tracks which present futuristic eclectic mix of modern
electronic hip hop, reggeae, turntablism, easy listening and
plunderphonics. Intelligent 21st century quasi-pop for demanding
listeners.
Schlammpeitziger - Schwingstelle Fur Rauschabzug CD (Sonig)
[SONIG068] $13.25
***Ever since the release of SCHLAMMPEITZIGER's first cassette on
the renowned and legendary Cologne-based label Entenpfuhl in 1993, JO
ZIMMERMANN has granted an international audience insights into his private
cosmos. The musician, graphic artist, and tireless inventor of
increasingly
strange song titles with a ribald as well as subtle humor has been coining
a highly distinctive style for the last fifteen years. His new album
exhibits significant artistic development while remaining true to his own
personal vision. On Schwingstelle Fuer Rauschabzug, Schlammpeitziger
discovers deep frequencies and pulsating beats. All of a sudden, his
familiar combination of eloquent melodies and lively rhythms acquires a
completely new pull. With this album, Zimmermann pulses his listeners into
hypnosis. This new quality transforms Schlammpeitziger's music in a
remarkable way: it remains friendly and weird, but gains in seriousness
and
depth. The hidden qualities of this kind of club-suitable pop music (or
radio-friendly club music?) readily disclose themselves on a second or
third listen. CD version includes bonus remix by SPRINGINTGUT (Pingipung,
City Centre Offices) and music video by ULRIKE GOEKEN. No exports outside
North America

Scott Kelly - The Wake CD (Neurot) [NR060] $13.25
***In James Joyce's Dublin, the streets inhale and exhale an
Irishness that is so fundamentally elemental that it's more a part of the
landscape than the actual landscape--which is to say: his books are more
real than the real space they describe. And so it is with SCOTT KELLY,
great guitar griot and founder of NEUROSIS, and his Wake. Or The Wake, to
be precise. Its reality supersedes the place, the space, and the
particulars that gave birth to it. Mixing imagery that borders on a bold
and stark contemplation of the limits of our earthly existence via our
failed loves, efforts, conceits, and even our less-than-noble other
failures (blissfully unspecified and probably unnecessary to have them
specified: if you're alive, the blanks are easy enough to fill in), The
Wake, with its lion-in-the-winter woe, wrenches the almost inexpressibly
sad into seven songs that sound like what you hear when you're just about
to not hear anything anymore. With only an acoustic guitar and his voice,
Kelly crams the lilt, lift, and longing of several lives well lived into
five-some-odd minutes of every song. Not only would this record not have
been possible at any other point in his life--or ours, for that
matter--than now, it also seems to suggest the shape of beyond-now: thin
and on fire. No exports to the UK and Europe.

Steve von Till - A Grave Is A Grim Horse CD (Neurot) [NR055]
$13.25
STEVE VON TILL's third solo outing maintains his allegiance to folk
traditions, but A Grave Is A Grim Horse is a much more personal and
confident effort. The NEUROSIS singer/guitarist intertwines
interpretations
of songs by Nick Drake, Townes Van Zant, Mickey Newberry, and Lyle Lovett
with his own powerful yet subtle, graceful originals, which stand on par
with these time-honored songwriters. On songs like the title track and
"Looking For Dry Land," Von Till comes into his own as a composer and
arranger, perfectly adorning infectious songs with flourishes of swooping
strings, pedal steel, organ, et al. Vinyl edition to follow. No exports to
the UK and Europe.
Strings of Consciousness - Fantomastique Acoustica CD (Off)
[OCD007CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 07-08-2008
This is the second full-length release by international
electro/rock/jazz
collective, Strings of Consciousness. Uniting acoustic music and digital
technology, the collective is comprised of 14 well-seasoned musicians,
though the heart of Strings of Consciousness is a string quartet, as its
name makes clear. It is also a direct literary reference to "stream of
consciousness," a term coined in the 20th century to illustrate an organic
flow of words devoid of conventional narrative structure that reflects a
protagonist's or narrator's inner monologue. This narrative technique
deeply resonates with the collective: they believe that music should be
freely-formed, with plenty of space, improvisation and willful creativity.
Tetine - Let Your X's Be Y's CD (Soul Jazz Records) [SJR186CD]

Thomas Function - Celebration CD (Alive) [ALIVE0083]
$12.50
Huntsville, Alabama's THOMAS FUNCTION love punk rock, but they also
love
country, blues, new wave, garage rock and the shit happening in the street
too. Celebration comes out sounding like a bunch of earnest, severe songs
full of anger, clarity and bourbon.
Uw
Hypotheekadvies - Nature or Nuture CD (Beta-Lactam) [09473] $16.25
Ed. Of 400 numbered copies with full color insert each with an
original
hand drawing. Features members from former BlRR band Girlfriends and
mastered by Erik Drost and Raymond Steeg (Legendary Pink Dots). According
to the Explosive Ordinance Field Guide: "Uw Hypotheekadvies should be
handled with great care as it is one of the most powerful EO's, especially
if detonated through speakers in the comfort of one's own home." As trios
go, UH sound more like a thousand-tet. Imagine a heavily armoured Glenn
Branca guitar army falling DOWN an UP escalator in such a way that they
never reach the bottom and are forever tumbling and crashing. Now throw
DNA
down the same escalator and pour acid on that. UH don't just rock; they
ROCK. Like agates gone wild, their abstract explorations come delivered
via
sledgehammer and arrive on the plate as oddly conceived gemstones with
insects trapped inside. It smells like the teen spirits of Naked City and
Laddio Bolocko lurk underneath UH's woodpile, but despite the improv
flavour of UH's pummeling, they skew away from jazz and lean in more
towards prog than Zorn and Co. UH's chaos fleshes form and even descends
into subtle soundscapes in between the rat-a-tat blastpatter. A beautiful
monstrosity of Nature and Nurture.
"Uw Hypotheekadvies ('your mortgage
advice') is a noisy trio from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. There is a
drummer, a bass player and a guitar player. The band evolved partly out of
Girlfriends (which you can also buy at Beta-lactam Ring Records). Uw
Hypotheekadvies aims to have a fresh, open approach towards making music.
Influences are diverse like krautrock, no wave, Albert Ayler, bBfheart,
dDeerhoof, ethnic field-recordings... The core of the music is
interaction.
Improvisation is a means but not necessarily an end. This has resulted in
their first official release 'Nature of Nurture' referring to an old, for
these three guys, still relevant question. After this rigorous work, they
are occupied with making a new recording. Rumours say that this will turn
out to be a pleasant piece of pop music."
Various Artists - An Taobh Tuathail CD (Psychonavigation)
[PSY021] $15.00
Psychonavigation Records latest project is a unique collaboration with
the
world famous music programme 'An Taobh Tuathail'. The plan is to release a
CD compilation of electronic music that perfectly reflects the diverse
music style of the radio show. So here it is - A twelve track CD
compilation which has been painstakingly selected by An Taobh Tuathail's
founder Cian " Cíobháin. A beautiful blend of
Ambient/Electronic sounds

broadcasting the cream of underground music from around the globe on

first broadcast,
selects the music Mondays to Fridays, 11pm-1am. "Over the years, I've
often
been asked by listeners if I might compile CDs for them of some of the
music featured on the show", says " Cíobháin. "When I
mentioned this in
passing to Keith Downey, head of Psychonavigation Records, we set about
releasing the inaugural An Taobh Tuathail compilation". "The show
typically
features many different sounds and genres. The shows coming up to the
weekend concentrate on the latest underground electro & techno sounds, but
for An Taobh Tuathail Vol 1, I decided to focus on the quieter stuff that
I
play earlier in the week" says " Cíobháin. "Basically, I
picked tunes that
I've loved over a period of time and that I feel have longevity". These
tunes include the spaced-out psychedelic pop of Ariel Pink, sumptuous
electronica from Felix Laband, OST and Fug as well as demos from
Galway-based artists Heftord & Beatpoet, that have not been available
anywhere else to now. "An Taobh Tuathail Vol 1 is a continuation of Anocht
FM's commitment to showcasing new music from around the world", says
Seán "
hEanaigh, head of programming at the station. "We are confident that this
CD will satisfy the show's current listeners and will also attract new
ears
to the programme". Tracklisting: 01. Felix Laband ~V Down The Stairs 02.

Gas
- Nah Und Fern 2xLP (Kompakt) [KOM175LP] $22.00
The double
vinyl comes in a fold cover with a bonus artwork print and is strictly
limited. The vinyl features one extended-edit track from each of the albums
per side.

Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase - Glistening Inn LP (Ultra Eczema)
[UE053LP] $27.00
"Very very excited to announce the first LP in 10 years by
Massachusetts-based Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase. Pretty much 9 years it took to
make this album, I can not say I know a lot of people that have the
patience to work on one thing that long, maybe I am mistaking hyper
neurotic action with patience here though. Angst Hase Pfeffer Nase is the
moniker of Chris Cooper, a multi-instrumentalist, cat and moustache
toucher, neologist and member/guitarist or ex member/guitarist of bands
such as Deerhoof, a duo with Bill Nace called Buddies (though Nace would
love to see that name changed), Turbwasn, Fat Worm Of Error, Barn Owl,
Caroliner, etc., etc., etc.." Limited to 500 copies.

Barn Owl - From Our Mouths A Perpetual Light LP (Not Not Fun)
[NNF123] $14.75
***Since first bearing witness to BARN OWL's mythically desolate
amplifier alchemy last year, NNF has been rabid fans/fanatics. But like
lots of badass bands, BO are a rolling stone, heavy on the transformation
tip, and the BO of today is an altered beast from the one that folkily
fingerpicked Bridge To The Clouds and their self-titled disc way back when.
And in case we're not being clear: this is a beautiful thing. From Our
Mouths A Perpetual Light burns with the sun-dead majesty of a Death Valley
burial ground, all wasted waterless expanse and cracked earth smoke blowing
in the dry wind. Heavy western drone revelations bleed into forlorn guitar
drift, downcast percussion plods across the plain, a skull on its side lies
in the sands. EVAN CAMINITI and JON PORRAS have somehow flawlessly evolved
Barn Owl into a blazing new universe, and From Our Mouths... is the first
mission statement from their new spectral/aesthetic outpost, a stunning and
timeless eight-song suite of grim cinematic electricity. Tune in, drop
dead, rot on. In swank matte jackets with 'four-armed demon warrior-yogi'
artwork by the band. Edition of 435 (275 on white wax, 160 on black).

"Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is letting the sun shine in so you can Lie Down
In
The Light. Before you get undressed, we're talking about a brand-new
twelve-song album of excellent new songs and sounds, okay? Get that thong
back up your crack and listen! Bristling with guitar strings and laced with
harmonies, Lie Down In The Light is the brightest album to date from the
Bonnie 'Prince.'"

Daso - Tinnitus 12 inch (Connaisseur Recordings) [CNS022EP]
$10.75
Daso is back with his third release on Connaisseur. This newest output
has
a specific theme: tinnitus. Daso kicks asses with the A-side, and heralds
the open-air beach party season with the B-side. "Tinnitus" is a rumbling
techno machine - a ringing sound sidles through a dull echo chamber - like
tinnitus. This track will cause states of raving emergency on the
dancefloor. "Pars Tensa" features a knobbly but hypnotic acid bass line
matched with a Spanish guitar. Outstanding.
