Pour into tall tiki mug and garnish with a sweet red cherry and a paper umbrella. Q: How would you describe “Iridescent Garden, exotica reinvented” in terms of the music? Michael: It’s magical, tropical, romantic, decadent, lush, wicked, dark, sonic, mysterious, surreal, gorgeous and gilded. Spider: We took vintage exotica and turned it upside-down on its head, adding our own modern twist while still remaining faithful to the genre.

Ad Ombra - Rites of Genesis CD (Rage in Eden) [09597] $19.50
Romanian project Ad Ombra's debut album "Rites of Genesis" (equinox tremendum) offers a suite in 15 parts of Dramatic Orchestral art, rooted in the timeless fragrance of Classical music, adorned with Eastern lullabies, funeral dirges, monumental choirs and operatic female chants, theatrical soliloquies, industrial hues of a dark disturbing manner, all coagulated in order to depict the aesthetical testimonies of the project's mastermind, George D. Stanciulescu. A spiral of emotions, thoughts, opalescent visions, essential recurrences, for Creation's shrine that stands as a living mirror where everyone can reflect the(m)selves. For fans of Elend, Stoa, Sophia and Chaostar. 15 tracks, 42 minutes, 3 panel matt digipack with original artwork by Luna.

Agnivolok - Sculptor CD (The Eastern Front) [09616] $19.50
CD reissue of the "Sculptor" album previously released on 12"LP by Stateart. Now on CD with a previously unreleased bonus track "Angels". The alchemy of Agnivolok, an Israeli ensemble of musicians whose roots lie in the depths of Russia and the Ukraine, takes you to a place where unspeakable events fall into place... An impressive musical meltdown that takes traditional music into a new dimension. Passionate folk, rich of eastern and oriental characteristics, skillfully combined with experimental acoustic ambient layers, and a female voice that is haunted by melancholy. Agnivolok is Near Life Experience - traditional music for spiritual travellers. Limited, hand-numbered edition of 1000 copies in nice 3-panel digisleeve.

Agnivolok - Cherries CD (The Eastern Front) [09617] $19.50
The album was planned to be released on a few years ago under the original title "Cherries for the Golden Skull"

Amina - Animamina CD (Workers Institute) [TWI1] $6.25
The debut EP from the women of Iceland's AMINA, who've played on the last two SIGUR ROS albums, an ALBUM LEAF record, and EFTERKLANG's Tripper full-length. Four tracks of interwoven beauty performed with violin, viola and cello, along with an assortment of malleted instruments, a glassophone, and various stringed instruments picked up around the world.

Antenne - 3 CD (Beta-Lactam Ring) [HR0020] $14.00
RELEASE DATE: 07-01-2008
***This recording weaves a fine web of electronic and acoustic elements, crafting a world where noise becomes melody, twisting through a tangled web of wires and roots. ANTENNE creates a minimalist dream of sound that conjures images of long train rides through the European countryside, the sounds of the machine beneath you as you pass untouched through a lush organic world. The mind drifts like a cloud on the breeze as serene vocals float gently above an ocean of mechanical echoes and soft swirls of acoustic guitar.

Apart - Across the Empty Night CD (Finalmuzik) [09589] $19.50
Apart is the music project by Francis M. Gri, "Across The Empty Night" is his official debut, though he already released a few private demo CDs. Francis has been member and co-founder of well-known ethereal Italian act All My Faith Lost, until "In A Sea, In A Lake, In A River..." band's official first release. "Across The Empty Night" is a fabulous dark album, developing new influences and sound structures. The songs alternate male (by Daniele Stefanuto and Alberto Milani) and female vocals (by Viola Roccagli of All My Faith Lost...), building a bridge between the ethereal music past and current moody / somptous identity. Fans of obscure dark / etehreal sounds, Projekt Records, cloudy postrock, Antimatter and - of course - All My Faith Lost will 100% love this album! Digipack, limited to 500 copies

Ben Nash - Seventh Goodbye CD (Aurora Borealis) [ABX024] $14.50
The debut full-length album from 23 year old BEN NASH. Clocking in at 34 minutes, its not an overly long album, but rather one that demands repeated listens, a collage of so many layers, patterns and textures so as to be as dazzling as the plumage of the finest peacock in paradise. Musical elements as diverse as folk, raga, Eastern percussion, drone, prog and noise collide and coalesce as the album unfolds, with each of the eight tracks providing new twists and turns, with never an element out of place.

Bisclaveret - Psyche Nomme CD (The Eastern Front) [09613] $19.50
Bisclaveret - A Polish dark ambient/dark wave duo presents its album Psyche noMine. It took two years to conceive, resulting in 6 songs (clocking at around 53 minutes). Musically, it's a piece for those interested in moving, yet extraordinary art. Lush strings, industrial rhythms and even noise tones at times summarize the background for Dragos' voice coming from the other, subconscious side of his mind. Lyrically, it's a concept-album of sorts. All the lyrics deal with human sub consciousness. The words on 'Psyche noMine' shows a man entangled in the arcane of the world, somebody who does not notice phenomena around him. The man whose recklessness or even arrogance so natural for him is the cause for him being lost in the surrounding reality. The album's ambiguous title suggests what receivers will deal with when listening to new Bisclaveret album. A must-have album for fans of Nordvargr, Dead Man's Hill and Cold Meat Industry acts, such as In Slaughter Natives & Sanctum

Bitcrush - Shimmer and Fade CD (n5MD) [MD160] $11.75
RELEASE DATE: 08-19-2008
Originally released in 2005, 'Shimmer and Fade' was a limited time download EP from n5MD's sub-label En:peg Digital. Within its forty-eight minutes, bass and guitar arose from the background to a place of prominence and carried the EP's melodic content. This change in form represented an important period in the natural evolution of the Bitcrush sound, a time that found Mike Cadoo transitioning from his post-industrial and IDM beginnings found on Enarc to the more ambient/post-shoegaze direction of 'In Distance.' After years of requests to bring Shimmer and Fade back, n5MD has chosen to re-release it as a re-mastered CD which contains four extra tracks not found on the original EP. Limited to 1000, this release will serve as a time capsule of what was yet to come.

Bleiburg - Way of Crosses CD (The Eastern Front) [09609] $19.50
Though only people themselves create History, they always prefer to re-write it afterwards, being horrified and embarrassed by what they have committed. But sometimes we must make bold to face the truth and to acknowledge the fact that we are guilty of what we made and that we are guilty towards History. And we must carry our own cross and pass our own way and once reach the Golgotha of our own conscience.

14 outstanding compositions of one of most enigmatic artists of German neo folk/industrial scene.

14 songs presented on this album were recorded in various years, composed in various styles and sung in various languages. Just truth stays invariable.

Cars Can Be Blue - Doubly Unbeatable CD (Happy Happy Birthday to Me) [HHBTM102] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 07-07-2008
16 songs! Three years in the making! Two people who can barely stand each other most of the time, who have endured emotional distress, heartbreak, a grueling, botched disaster cross-country tour that resulted in bankruptcy and homelessness, YET STILL summoned inhuman tenacity of spirit and came out swinging with a record that will be ripping you, not one, but TWO auxiliary assholes. Since forming their strange musical alliance in 2002, CARS CAN BE BLUE have strived to combat the inertia of indie music's boring banalities with cheekily colorful aplomb. The twisted worm that had always wiggled beneath the surface of this cheerful boy/girl pop duo has gradually swelled up and begun devouring its human host. Behold, "DOUBLY UNBEATABLE!" A joyous paroxysm of negative energy culled from three years of uncertain circumstances and desperate living, Becky Brooks and Nate Mitchell have filtered their own distrust of humanity into a living document that is catchier and more compelling than the volume that preceded it (2005's "All the Stuff We Do"). Yes, times have changed and the new CARS CAN BE BLUE attitude is sharper and thornier than ever before, all of which translates into GREAT NEWS for fans of real-deal rock-n-roll. This new batch of songs is faster, louder and meaner than its predecessor. All the choicest ingredients of the CCBB recipe are still here: manic tempos, huge pop hooks, killer vocal melodies, ultra-compact songwriting custom-made for even the shortest of attention spans, but with the following improvements: HEAR the sassy, vintage Vox amp guitar tone and explosive drum trashiness dialed in by production maestro Jeff "Flesh Hammer" Walls (he of Woggles/Hillbilly Frankenstein/Guadacanal Diary fame who has also twiddled knobs for sleaze-rock luminaries like Southern Culture on the Skids and Man? or Astroman?). LISTEN to snotty, spiteful, f***-off lyrics spewed vindictively by chirpy musical elf Becky Brooks on tracks like "Hope You're Hurting", "Coat Tails" and "Just Because", as well as the pointed-if-misguided social commentary of "You're On Drugs". THRILL to the excitement of Cramps-homage zombie-rocker "Eyeballs", Buzzcocks/Vaselines hybrid "I Wish I", the post-punkified Minutemen-on-crank rave-up "Ribbon" or the shuddering balls-out catharsis of Dwarves-via-Whitehouse explosion "So Cheap". EMBRACE the sensitive side of CCBB with songs like "Flipped Around", the playful mirth embedded in "Pretty Special" and "I Think It's A...", the Spectorian bombast of album-opener "Sun Blows Up", or the discomfiting Nick Cave-meets-Tom Waits dirge-de-force "Cycle of Violence". Yes, experience all of the above and more! CCBB gives you a "total package" Lex Luger himself would be proud of.

Chap - Mega Breakfast CD (Ghostly International) [GI72] $11.00
RELEASE DATE: 07-01-2008
***THE CHAP, the already-legendary London-based, modern pop group, are back with their third album, Mega Breakfast. Mega Breakfast is the sound of the search for a heart of gold in a world gone cold. It deals with sex issues, depression and classic economics. The band have expanded their repertoire to include some Justin Timberlake style R&B, an ode to World Music, and a corporate motivational song. Pop, improv, disco and rock all get their due along the way.

Cold Fusion and Rukkanor - Silk Road CD (Rage in Eden) [09598] $19.50
The Silk Road is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes connecting East and West by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time. Many artistic influences transited along the Silk Road, especially through the CentralAsia, where Hellenistic, Iranian, Indian and Chinese influence were able to intermix."Silk Road" - a split of Cold Fusion and Rukkanor is a road album, connecting past with present, East and West, classical oriental melodies with modern arrangements. 9 tracks, 43 minutes, CD in digipack. Limited edition of 500 handnumbered copies.

Cyclotimia - Algorithims CD (Rage in Eden) [09599] $19.50
Moscow duo Cyclotimia is one of the best recognized, well-known Russian projects in the electronic scene today. On "Algorithms" album Cyclotimia presents apocalyptic version of electronic music, dark ambient sounds supported by bouncing electronic rhythms, religious samples and different effects, all blended in that way which makes this album very intriguing. Cyclotimia's trademark sound proceeds from using a mix of the modern synthesis technologies and cult vintage analog / Soviet machines. For all who listen into Ulver, Holon or Forma Tadre. 11 tracks, 52 minutes, 3 panel glossy digipack.

David Ramos - This Up Here CD (Fake Four) [FFINC001] $12.00
By age 15, DAVID RAMOS was studying Latin-jazz polyrhythms and recording what would be ANONYMOUS INC.'s debut CD. And by age 24, David was named one of Modern Drummer magazine's Top 10 Progressive Drummers of Today. As part of bands TOCA and Anonymous Inc. with brother CESCHI, David has been the source of backing beats for collaborations with a range of acclaimed artists--including everyone from ACEYALONE and BUSDRIVER to SOLE and DOSE ONE. On tours David has performed as part of LITTLE WINGS with KYLE FIELD (who also provided David his new album's artwork) and even as part of hardcore metal band DEAD BY WEDNESDAY. But David's smorgasbord of past work has little to do with his new album, This Up Here. At first listen, the album sounds something like a synthesizer-injected lo-fi indie folk record, complete with occasionally dramatic shaky vocals, layers of Casios, shitty drum machines, glockenspiels, acoustic guitars, and melodicas. Upon closer examination, however, the musical quality is apparent. The album sounds much more like an ensemble of unlikely instruments becoming good friends, while Ramos' creative use of percussion undoubtedly surges through the Casio static. His acrobatic rap-vocal abilities only complement the concoction. By the last track we come to realize that This Up Here is simply a beautifully selfproduced pop record crafted by a talented young songwriter who uses a basement full of toys and old instruments to shape a subtly emotional story filled with nostalgia, humor, and honesty. No exports to Canada.

Emeralds - Solar Bridge CD (Hanson Records) [HN183CD] $12.00
"Starting out in 2005, performing live sets using only television sets as sound sources, Emeralds has grown in recent years into a monster of HEAVY improvised drone using analog synths and masterfully-effected guitar. Born out of the Midwest scum-noise scene, these guys have taken the intense heaviness of their Midwest brethren to a place that is entirely their own. They have replaced the creepy atmosphere and abrasive harsh noise of their peers with a very different, though equally intense blast of cosmic drone power! Hanson Records is proud to announce Emeralds' Solar Bridge, the trio's first full-length album after numerous cassette and CD-R releases on such labels as American Tapes, Chondritic Sound, and the band's own imprints Wagon and Gneiss Things. The album opens with the side-long `Magic' where the band builds a quiet drone into an extreme thick saw blade of swirling noise as beautiful as it is menacing. The flip is yet another side-long journey titled `The Quaking Mess,' a track that stabs your brain with fluttering sparks of synthesized needles before relaxing you into a Göttschingesque dream state while slowly bringing you back to earth with an electronic wave of molten rumble. Fans of the smooth tones of New Age Of Earth-era Ash Ra Tempel and the buzzing thick drones of Throbbing Gristle's Heathen Earth should take note, as Emeralds may be their new source for electronic drugs." CD pressed in 1000 digipak copies.

Gregorio Bardini - Sentinelle Del Mattino CD (The Eastern Front) [09610] $19.50
Hypnotic musical journey composed by the legend of Italian scene Gregorio Bardini. An artist who is on scene since early 80s, stood behind TAC and Kino Glaz, collaborated with Thelema and Tuxedo Moon, Tony Wakeford and Vidna Obmana, Alio Die and Steve Pikkolo, Thierry Lolif and Doubling Riders.

"Sentinelle Del Mattino" dips you into the world of harmony, expressiveness and anguish melodies. Wide specter of musical instruments (piano, flutes, guitars, drums, zurna, kena, ciaramella, saxophone), unforgettable vocals, unique records of Mary de Rachewilts voice, reading her father Ezra Pound' Cantos and musical innovations of Stefan Rukavina (Bleiburg), Tiziano Popoli, Mauro Franceschi, Paolo Longo Vaschetto, Peter "Kompripiotr" Holzknecht, Martin "Mala" Langes, Stephan "Physh" Fischnaller, touches a heart up to its deepest depths.

Hard Place - Get Your Hopes Up CD (World Famous In San Francisco) [WFNSF001] $10.75
HARD PLACE are an invigorating art rock band that has hit the Los Angeles scene with full force, fusing '80s new wave with metal riffs resulting in sounds comparable to Human League, Sparks, Iron Maiden, and Slade. The band is fronted by ASHLEY HUIZENGA and FREDDY CRISTY, who bring a theatrical flare to the music through their sexy--bordering on depraved--vocal interplay.

Haven - A2982 CD (Rage in Eden) [09603] $19.50
42 minutes 05 seconds. This is the duration of the album. It will communicate any meter of time. Let us not however be deluded by the spells of this sorcerer; because the first sounds overturn its acknowledged and safe definition and begin construction of different, weirder spaces. This is the last chance to resign and turn back. Otheriwse, when you listen to the end of first track the only thihg left to say is "Toto, I have an impression that we're not in Kansas". You begin your own, separate (and the longest?) journey. What do you see on your way? What unknown ladns, traditions, incomprehesible rituals and dialects will you discover? I do not know. But I am sure that if David Lynch will ever undertake the filming of "Alice in the Wonderland" the soundtrack of the movie will be filled with the music from this particular album."Victoire Vrist "Le Figuro". 10 tracks, 42 minutes, CD in digipack.

Heavensore - Asmodai CD (Utech Records) [UR016CD] $15.25
No description available at this time.

Heaviness - Heaviness CD (Quince Records) [qrcp-61] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 08-12-2008
An experimental three-piece based in Stockholm, Heavïness might be one of the best things since My Bloody Valentine; indeed, this Swedish band's own brand of mayhem pop has been very well received in the neo-shoegaze camp. Electric violin, driving drums, flowing guitar, and bittersweet vocals forge a path through a forest of anxiety, longing and oppression. The songs strike you down with their brute force only to lift you up with the beauty of their melodies. Live they have been known to blow away unsuspecting audiences. This is their acclaimed debut album in a special Japanese issue featuring a bonus track and new artwork.

Hotpants Romance - It's a Heatwave CD (Happy Happy Birthday to Me) [HHBTM103] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 08-12-2008
Three girls! Three years! Three chords! Hotpants Romance debut album 'It's a Heatwave' is shouty, shambolic, garage pop that wears its heart on its sleeve. On the 14th February 2005 Hotpants Romance formed two hours before their first gig, with a vow to play once a year on Valentines Day, after a storming two and a half song set the audience wanted more. The original plan was dropped in favour of playing anywhere and everywhere that Anyone would have them. The rest of 2005 had their first tape 'The Greatest Hits' was released on Manchester DIY label Soft Presents and the 50 copies quickly sold out. Gigs were played all around the UK with many amazing bands, winning over audiences with energetic and shambolic live shows. 2006 had Hotpants Romance playing more shows and releasing their demo EP titled "Lucky 6". In 2007 things started to really come together when the girls were able to tour with their post punk heroes the Nightingales, only to be followed by a support slot for the Ting Tings UK tour. In 2008 after a win on a horse called Purple Moon, Nightingale Robert Lloyd is able to release the first Hotpants Romance album on his Big Print label. 'It's a Heatwave' crashed into the world, catching the attention of music press and radio stations to great critical acclaim. The girls booked a short US East Coast tour with Christie and Emily. They are currently working on songs for a 7" on Cherryade Records in the UK, and getting ready for a performance at this years' Athens PopFest in Athens, Georgia, having their "It's a Heatwave" released on Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records in the states, and a 2 week South East US tour with new label-mates Cars Can Be Blue.

Infinite Livez Vs Stade - Morgan Freeman's Psychedelic Semen CD (Big Dada) [BD119] $13.25
Multi-colored, sticky, bursting with tiny fertile tadpoles, vaguely cosmic, and yet funny when smeared in inappropriate places. A new album from INFINITE LIVEZ is always a reason to cream your jeans, even if you're a major Hollywood star. Extracted live in single takes at a fertility clinic in Geneva's renowned sperm-banking district, Morgan Freeman's Psychedelic Semen sees Doctor Livez once again making beautiful music with jazz-glitch Europeans and matinee idols PIERRE AUDETAT and CHRISTOPHE CALPINI (aka STADE), plus special guest emissions from the remarkable JOY FREMPONG and DJ TENDRAW. Drawn from a DNA pool so confused and mysterious that it's best not to look for antecedents, this is the sound of William Blake wanking over a jazz mag while old-skool Dadaists form a guard of honor and fire great fountains of vanilla-flavored milkshake into the sky. No exports outside the US and South America

Jennifer Gentile/Kawabata Makoto - The Wrong Cage CD (A Silent Place) [09591] $21.00
Finally it is here, the long-awaited re-release of "The Wrong Cage", the superfreaky , acid rock album that introduced Italian psych-pop mavericks Jennifer Gentle to the rest of the world, leading to their subsequent Sub Pop signing. Originally self-released in late 2002 on their own imprint Sillyboy Records, "The Wrong Cage" saw the young Italian quartet (who had already home-recorded a couple of eccentric albums) join forces with Kawabata Makoto, the legendary Japanese guitar-god leader of Acid Mothers Temple and zillion other projects, for a live album that captured the band at it's most ferocious. The result was over 30 minutes of wonderful loud sonic carnage: two long, ultra-heavy guitar freakouts plus a eerily beautiful solo sarongi track played by Kawabata - all in all, a must for all fans of heavy, guitar-driven psychedelic avant-rock. Long out of print, "The Wrong Cage" is available again, now with the addition of a lo-fi BONUS TRACK, 18-minute long version of "Bring Them" cut on the another night of that tour and burning with even more fire and primal power than the original album. Comes in elegant digipak!!!

Joe Grimm - Brain Cloud CD (Spekk) [KK015] $16.00
Joe Grimm (formerly known as The Wind-Up Bird) is a composer/ performer based in Providence, RI known with remarkable releases on Music Fellowship Label. The seed for this music was planted when I participated in one of Glenn Branca's 100-guitar symphonies. The sound was incredible: a deafening, electric choir incorporating so many voices that the each element was subsumed within the group sound. But I was struck even more by the unrealized potential in Branca's approach; the sound was separated into several identifiable voices, so that the impression given was of a conventional counterpoint-driven music. I wanted to make a particulate music that presented itself as a single mass of varying density, comprised of tens of thousands of individual events. Soon afterward, I began to immerse myself in the piano music of Charlemagne Palestine. I learned from him that when two notes share a particular frequency in their overtone series, that frequency can be made to sing out clearly -- a ghost tone, not played directly, but arising from the interactions among the directly played notes. I began to compose and improvise with this in mind -- I could sketch out desired pitches, and then arrange webs of lower pitches that coincided to produce those target pitches within their harmonic series. This music deals with overtones. I listen not so much to the direct-played notes; instead, I let my mind wander through the web of throbbing harmonics that arise as a result of their interaction. There are obvious sounds on the surface of the music, but eventually my ears penetrate beneath the surface to where harmonics overlap in countless reinforcements and cancellations. I love the glowing acoustic haze that seems to hover above the obvious notes, and the sustained ghost tones that emerge and recede within that cloudy texture. The Brain Cloud pieces are through-composed according to the principles of overtone confluence and particle density. There are no special electronics on these recordings -- the humming sounds are the result of the acoustical interaction of voices, violins, horns, and above all, piano (Brain Cloud III was recorded live with three pianos, each played by three people; 18-handed piano). The harpsichord interludes are solo improvisations for harpsichord, equalizer, and slight delay.

John Matthias - Stories From The Watercooler CD (Ninja Tune) [COUNT014] $13.25
There are a lot of stories one can tell about JOHN MATTHIAS. He could be painted as a mad scientist, a contemporary composer, a violin prodigy, and so on. But Matthias is interested in talking about other people more than he is about himself. Stories from the Watercooler is a suite of twelve short stories rendered in song form. Their basic template is classic folk-rock--great songwriting, acoustic and electric guitar, strings. But within this seemingly simple formula, Matthias writes about everything from the shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes to fake alternative therapies, credit ratings and telephone banking; from boxing to Japanese internment camps in California and bombs painted with the face of Britney Spears. But beyond this, he also wraps the "classic" sound of the record in several levels of complexity. First, his choice of instrumentation includes harmoniums, banjos, clarinets, and mono synths. Then there are the electronic layers added by his own experimental devices as well as by COLDCUT, who produced the album. Last but not least, Matthias's voice is deadpan, up-close, and all the more emotional for the lack of histrionics. No exports outside the US and South America

Ken Ikeda - Mist on the Window CD (Spekk) [KK010] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
Ken Ikeda is a video artist and composer born in Tokyo (1964) but currently resident in New York. He has exhibited sound art and visual installations around the world and has collaborated with painter Tadanoori Yokoo and artist Mariko Mori. Mist On The Window is his third album, following Tzuki (2000) and Merge (2003) both on the Touch label. There are moments in your life when something changes as you hear and become aware of the sounds around you. Why do the sounds that cups and chairs make feel so distant? It seems that 'I' as an existence won't be forgiven for being my ordinary self. The meaningless noise that reverberates in the living room opens up the possibility of connecting beyond the horizon... Then, I become alone and say goodbye to the 'Me that was pretending to be like me'. By assimilating these everyday sounds I get away from the everyday me and get closer, little by little, to the universe of 'eternity and nothingness'. At this point ~V meaning the moment I change ~V I enter a personal time and space which could never be shared with others. During the 2 years spent on this project I used an instrument made with rubber bands and nails to document my daily involvement with sounds. There exist various faces of 'me' and through the process of recording I became aware of the concept of 'beyond the window' and got lost in this vague daily space. What could you see beyond the window? The whole universe and at the same time the usual me living my daily, ordinary life.

Comes in small jewel case with black and white insert. Limited edition of 99 handnumbered copies.

Las Malas Amistades - Patio Bonito CD (Honest Jon's Records) [HJR029] $17.50
The second LAS MALAS AMISTADES release on Honest Jon's. The band formed in 1994, when several art students in Bogota, Colombia, began meeting up to play music together (though none of them were musicians). From the start, their method has been to make up songs there at the session, sometimes while their four-track is already running, moving straight on when something is caught on the tape. Six members use a hulking charity-shop synth and a Casiotone, electronic drums, an acoustic guitar, a cuatro and various small percussion gadgets. Sometimes songs are acoustic, sometimes electronic, usually mixed. The music is spontaneous, intimate, spare. It's lovely, heartfelt, and full of poppy wit.

Lights Out Asia - Eyes Like Brontide CD (n5MD) [MD161] $11.75
RELEASE DATE: 08-19-2008
Once a band has developed a sound that is undeniably theirs it can be difficult to push beyond those confines and expand the sound into new territory. Lights Out Asia set out to do just that and have succeeded in writing a record that was as much a sign of the times as it was an expansion of their aural bubble that has been their watermark. They have been called ethereal, post-shoegaze and sleep-rock, but on their third full length "Eyes Like Brontide" the band slides into a darker more ominous and less lucid dream than on previous efforts. The release is a stylistic shift from the sweet lullabies of their debut "Garmonia" (Sun Sea Sky) and the electronic drum driven post-shoegaze of 2007's "Tanks and Recognizers" (n5MD). The song dynamics on the album deserve special attention. For the first time in Lights Out Asia's history they have gone for broke with some of the most epic drum machine driven post-rock this side of the Pacific along with solemn disconnected passages of dream nourished sonics. The occasional floating vocal and dusty winding guitar they are known for are still present, but "Eyes Like Brontide" brings a whole new dimension to the Lights Out Asia ethos. Most importantly, the band has expanded upon its sound without throwing away the original blueprint or alienating it's fanbase. "Eyes Like Brontide" is recommended for fans of Hammock, Bitcrush, Robin Guthrie and Manual.

Mathieu Ruhlmann + Celer - Mesoscaphe CD (Spekk) [KK014] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
A beautiful collaboration album by sound artists Mathieu Ruhlamm (CAN) and Celer (US). 'Mesoscaphe' is a sound work dedicated to The 1969 voyage of the Ben Franklin, the naturally-propelled submarine created to explore the currents of the Gulf Stream, and the nature of the sea. Half of the sound is composed of original pieces of music, meant to symbolize a deepening human element culled from memory, from strings, pianos, and electronics. The other half of the sound is composed of natural field recordings, of the Ben Franklin itself, as well as the surrounding oceans and habitats, with the intention of providing realism through sound, just as if it were an actual document from the voyage, of the surrounding ocean. The artists exchanged their own original sounds with each other, allowing each artist to experiment and remix outside of their own sound sources, with the potential to apply our own sound methods to each others' sound sources, and develop the concept even further. Titles were made to coordinate with the movement of the voyage, creating their own story, in relation to the progressing sounds. The final result is a documented literary and audio interpretation of the voyage, from the perspective of 3 sound and visual artists, of the experiences and surroundings of the crew of the Ben Franklin, traveling for 30 days by the gentle glide of the Gulf Stream. We hope to bring attention to an important event in history, overshadowed by the moon landings, and for people to know the story of the revolutionary submarine that explored the nature of the ocean, challenged scientific development, and ended up in a salvage yard.

Merzbow - Eucalypse CD (Soleilmoon) [09583] $22.75
RELEASE DATE: 07-21-2008
The Tasmanian Blue Gum tree, Eucalyptus globulus, is native to Tasmania and southern Australia. Eucalyptus trees are uniquely suited to the varied ecologies of Australia, and there is no other continent more closely associated with one genus of tree. Its leaves are the food of choice of the koala, and its flowers attract bees and hummingbirds. Out of approximately 300 identified species, Blue Gums are now the eucalyptus most frequently found in other parts of the world. Throughout the tropics they are known for their ability to dry out swampy areas, making them a valuable weapon in the fight against malaria, a disease caused by parasites carried in female Anopheles mosquitos, which breed in standing water. Eucalyptus globulus was first brought to India in the late 18th century. Large plantations were establish in Kerala in 1863, but other than small amounts of oil distilling, little use has been made of the fast growing trees. Instead, they have thrived in the moist, foggy hills, spreading far across the landscape and transforming the ecosystem in the process. With their deep roots they lower water tables, depriving native species of the moisture necessary to survive the annual dry season, while the anti-bacterial properties of the "blue gum" secretions they drop on the soil further suppress the germination and growth of other plants. An ancient and intricate web of life has been disrupted, and native plants, insects and animals are being driven to extinction. Humans, who have long been a part of the local ecosystem, are adaptable and will survive, but the biodiversity of an entire region is under threat from a single exotic species.

It is truly a eucalyptus apocalypse.

It is a eucalypse.

At Soleilmoon, packaging and presentation are never overlooked. This release is presented in a hand-crafted round wooden box with screenprinted swiveling lid. The box contains one CD and four round, full-color cards. Only 1000 copies of this handsome CD have been made.

Minoru Sato + Asuna - Texture In Glass Tubes And Reed Organ CD (Spekk) [KK012] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
2 meltingly beautiful drone pieces made between 2 great Japanese artists Sato Minoru (WrK) and ASUNA (Lucky Kitchen, Power Shovel Audio..). We have been performing "music" focusing on the materialistic nature (physical phenomena) of sounds by utilizing the reed organ and glass tubes. Our music is composed and constructed in such a way that however the phenomena we use reacts with the circumstances of the space ~V the situation of the site including the audience ~V our live performance involves and uses these conditions. Since these compositions are studio recordings however, we decided to exclude acoustic spatial matters and the 'one-time-ness' of live performances and instead composed the structure of resonances within certain divisions of time. This is similar to textiles ~V weaving "resonances", rather than thread, in certain patterns. "Superposing five harmonic states" was developed by recording five harmonic states separately. Each of the harmonies was obtained by finding the characteristic sound effects made by the relationship of the chords of the organ and resonances of the glass tube. It was constructed by layering the recordings regularly in certain passages of time. The resonances of the organ and the tubes are left as they were originally recorded and the result is five separate recordings woven into a single piece. "Weaving seven resonances: with raw stereo material" was developed by recording a state where the resonances keep a subtle balance between the relationship of the organ and the glass tubes. From the originally recorded material we found seven characteristic frequencies and reconstructed them into a piece, by giving each individual volume a transition using optionally assigned periodic variations. Thus this composition, made of a single recording, is like a piece woven by one string. If our live performances were to be evaluated as music where we are presented with one-time incidents ~V i.e. reflecting the real time phenomena as 'now and there' in the music ~V this CD could be evaluated as music to analyze the sound structure of these phenomena and to make those aspects audible. It is intended to create a narrative about the phenomena which resonate through constructed sounds.

Mucca Pazza - Plays Well Together CD (Mucca Pazza) [MP002] $13.75
Trumpets. Trombones. Sousaphone. Glockenspiel. A guitar plugged into a speaker mounted on a hockey helmet? And everyone is waltzing. Suddenly, they start marching in circles and honking like geese. It's almost as if the band director went missing and the students took over. MUCCA PAZZA is the marching band that thinks it's a rock 'n roll band. The group is a collection of shameless band nerds wielding instruments of incongruous traditions, sometimes in competition, oftentimes in cooperation. Many of them played in traditional marching bands in high school. Others wanted to but couldn't because they played violin or accordion, and no one had yet come up with the aforementioned amplified helmet. With speakers strapped firmly to heads, their rambunctious live show has brought them to such acclaimed venues as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Lollapalooza, and some canoes floating down the Chicago River. With thirty people in the band, it takes a bit of effort to actually play well ll together--which is why they're so proud of their new album.

Mykal Xul - Johnson County Line CD (Gulcher) [GULCHER612] $10.25
With the release of Mykal Xul's new album, JOHNSON COUNTY LINE, it's plain to see the Hoosier race hasn't evolved much in the past three decades. Xul spins absurdly sick yarns, backed with a mix of folk, punk, blues, rockabilly, and especially hard rock with a 70s swagger.

Near The Parenthesis - L'Eixample CD (n5MD) [MD159] $11.75
RELEASE DATE: 08-19-2008
Near the Parenthesis follows up 2007's "Of Soft Construction" with "L'Eixample," Tim Arndt's most focused work to date. L'Eixample draws on inspiration gained during travels through Barcelona, Spain. Of particular interest was the innovative and sometimes peculiar modernist architecture of the L'Eixample district. In Catalunyan, L'Eixample literally means an extension, a strong symbolic parallel to the music found on Arndt's latest work which itself reflects an extension of the Near the Parenthesis' sound. While this collection begins where "Of Soft Construction" left off, it quickly migrates to an even calmer and more atmospheric experience. Through L'Eixample, Arndt has moved closer to an an emotional apex and provides even greater melodic rewards.

Nimh - The Unkept Secrets CD (Silentes) [09604] $16.75
After few months of distance from the escape of "The Missing Tapes" and the relative "Rework" by Aube, Nimh (Giuseppe Verticchio) sets aside the ethnic-lysergic visions that have characterized the previous album and continues along the distance of sonorous search and fascinating experimentation electronic, already undertaken with works which "The Impossible Days" and "Subterranean Thoughts", ulteriorlyexpanding just the range of sounds and instruments set, revealing the own "secrets" through new, dark but stylistically a unclassifiable CD, in which it arranges with extraordinary originality and in an absolutely personal and unknown elements of drone music, dark ambient, electronics, ritual, ethnic, field recordings, and enriching in particular every track with the recurrent presence of evocative sounds of electric guitar in varied filtered and elaborated way. The search goes on...

Nucleus - Hemispheres CD (Hux) [HUX078CD] $17.25
2006 release. "There can be little more exciting or rewarding than listening to a band playing live and firing on all cylinders at the absolute peak of its powers, and the live performances presented here by Nucleus are no exception. They capture the group in arguably its finest incarnation right at the start of its long career, exhibiting a staggeringly high level of musical discipline matched by an equally impressive ability to improvise and solo."

Opitope - Hau CD (Spekk) [KK011] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
Optiope is a duo formed by Date Tomoyoshi and Chihei Hatakeyama (also known for his works on Kranky) in autumn 2002. 'Hau' is an imaginary album traveling from the north to south, overlapping the images of transition of the four seasons. In reality, indeed one things always leads to an end and I feel sad every time I think about that. In this album, we tried to express this sorrow feeling changing gradually into hope as we travel south. Seasons have no end. It always moves from spring, summer, autumn, winter back to spring.. And just like the changing seasons, the tracks in this album constantly shifts another and the last piece connects to the very beginning which forms the never ending circle. We have expressed the images of these "endings" with "never endings" by music. These thoughts were brought up naturally during the making of this album and it's not that we had this idea from the start. Another concept of this album is "symmetry". There are 9 pieces in this album and is constructed by track 5 being the axis of the symmetry - like in terms os composition, 1st track is a piano piece and also the 9th track. The same thing goes to the arrangements like you will notice sounds that forms contrasts between the left & right speaker.

Painting Petals on Planet Ghost - Fallen Camellias CD (A Silent Place) [09592] $21.00
Second full-lenght album from Italy's Painting Petals On Planet Ghost, aka brothers Maurizio & Roberto Opalio (My Cat Is An Alien) and vocalist Ramona Ponzini (also involved in the duo Praxinoscope, as well as a new project with Z'EV). 'Fallen Camellias' is a tribute to one of the greatest poetess ever, Japanese Yosano Akiko, whose work in literature in the early 1900's is considered as manifesto of the Japanese Romanticism. Imagine a Vashti Bunyan or a early Marianne Faithful singing sweet melodies in Japanese language, and you can have an idea of the musical and poetical universe of Painting Petals On Planet Ghost. Here Ramona Ponzini's singing comes from the use of Akiko's selected original poems in Japanese along with Ponzini's own typical soft and enchanting wordless vocals style, a out of time muse-like chant hypnotizing the ears and the minds of the listeners. The songs of 'Fallen Camellias' are built on acoustic guitar melodies composed by Maurizio Opalio, and are made of the same pure, melancholic essentiality of the legendary Nick Drake; while, after contributing arrangements of the most ecstatic nature, the other brother Roberto Opalio has played the role of producer of the whole album, searching for not only an aesthetic, but especially an emotional ideal of perfection. In the heart of winter covered by snow, let 'Fallen Camellias' be your warm blanket, as well as the promise of a new future spring. Here's a special Painting Petals On Planet Ghost's dedication: 'For those who drink the wine of love springtime is forever'. Comes in a deluxe 3 panels digipak!!! Don't miss it!

Rudimentary Peni - No More Pain CD (Outer Himalayan) [BOOBOO9] $12.75
RUDIMENTARY PENI, one of the best and most mysterious bands of the English punk scene return with an album of completely new material. Welcome to No More Pain. Known for intensely personal music and lyrics made by the exceptional musicians in the band, and alternating lyrically between the witty macabre and the socio-political, Peni have never tried to keep up with any particular musical fashion or trend, generally sticking to a policy of doing precisely what they want to do. No More Pain is no exception and keeps within the boundaries of '77 fast punk and the '80's style of slower, chugging material, though always staying clear of the punk-metal crossover that infected so many bands of that '80s period. As always, artwork is designed by the wonder NICK BLINCO.

Smile Down Upon Us - Smile Down Upon Us CD (Static Caravan) [VAN161CD] $17.25
RELEASE DATE: 07-21-2008
Smile Down Upon Us is a very modern kind of band. Comprising Phelan Sheppard, the duo behind celebrated album Harps Old Master, and Japanese artist moomLooo, it's a project that crosses cultural and musical boundaries. And, for the duration of recording their self-titled debut album, it existed solely on the Internet, as the three have never met. The band came about when Keiron Phelan, a prodigious MySpace trawler, came across moomLooo's page and her enchanting recordings for Japan's Clay label. He sent a message introducing himself, and she responded saying she admired his work too. "None of us had any reservations about working together from the word go," says Phelan. "It just seemed natural ~V a touch of kismet." Soon, they began sending ideas back and forth on the Internet, sound files whizzing between Tokyo and London. Though initially a project to occupy Phelan whilst David Sheppard was writing his much-anticipated Brian Eno biography, On Some Faraway Beach, Phelan's long-time fellow group member soon came into the fold. The pair set up in East London's Soup Studio, in the basement of ukulele shop Duke Of Uke. There, they purloined parlour guitars, banjos and ukes from the shop and recorded them into ProTools, blending old and new, as well as east and west. Over in Japan, at home and at Tokyo's Naturebliss studio, moomLooo recorded her largely electronic parts and field recordings, adding delicately captivating vocals and spoken word, half in English, half in Japanese. Soon, they were writing parts for each other, playing to each other's strengths. "I don't speak any Japanese and moom's English is so-so," says Phelan. "In order to understand each other, we had to use simple language, and our emails began to look like a dialogue between two hyper-enthusiastic nine year-olds. We could only discuss things in a very 'primary colour' way and the music seemed to become extremely vivid too. Dave and I had the idea that this was sounding like a Chagall painting looks. That seemed a really strong and suitable feeling for the band, so we pushed it along that road." Between the language barriers, time differences and hours downloading files, the process of creating the album took almost 14 months. When moomLooo emailed the last part over, it came with a recorded message introducing herself to the pair. "It's been a very mysterious process," says Phelan. "I email moom all the time, but I know very little about her. I've never met her, never spoken to her. I don't know how old she is or what she does for a living. None of the usual things. And I think we all found this an intriguing situation." The resulting album has a strange kind of magic, an essence running through it. Blending warm wooden instruments with moomLooo's icy vocal, it sounds modern at the same time as aged, distinctly Japanese but rooted in the conventions of modern, electronic folk music. More structured than Phelan Sheppard's usually instrumental music, it reveals a new, accessible side to their work, one that's sure to appeal to fans of Bjork, Deerhoof and lovers of beautiful, beguiling music everywhere. The next step in the evolution of Smile Down Upon Us is to turn it into a functioning live band. In Japan, moomLooo has assembled a couple of musicians to recreate the songs until she finally meets with Phelan and Sheppard this summer, when they intend to stage what's bound to be some very special live shows indeed. "It would be quite something to have a Smile Down Upon Us (East) and a Smile Down Upon Us (West)," says Phelan. "Dave and I have never met or spoken to these musicians, don't even know their names. But soon we'll be able to look on YouTube and see them playing our songs! It's a weird but pleasant feeling."

Andy's been embracing and linking music for more than 30 years through experiences in Jamaica, England, West Africa, Montreal and Toronto, and he curates PTR's first deep jazz compilation for those who know--and need to know.

Yair Etziony - Flawed CD (Spekk) [KK013] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
'Flawed' is the fist solo album by Yair Etziony from Tel Aviv, Israel also known as Faction on UK's Neo Oujia label. When i started working on this project i wanted to create two separate albums, one with smoked jazzy feeling with emphasis on beats and second one with only textures,a piano and pads. At that time i was performing a lot with this sort of music in galleries, art events and museums. In my live show performance i used to combine elements from both albums, i liked the way it sounded and slowly i got the notion that i can fuse all the sounds and ideas into one album.I tried to use the same working techniques for all the tracks in the album, most of them were created on a computer, some beats and stabs that were created on an old analog sampler. Most of the work effort was to edit the raw material i had and than arrange in on my computer. All composition deal with mistakes, non-perfect things and flaws. I think that sometimes when dealt in the right way a mistake or a flaw can be a beautiful thing, like a broken CRT monitor that still sends a signal. I got my inspiration from day to day things like : walking at night, sounds of machines working and office ambiance at night. During the process of making the album i lost all my hard drive data and all the projects I already created for the album were deleted. I never backup my work, my only luck was to find a DVD with some of the projects thrown somewhere around my studio (i burned one DVD to test the new burner).

Seven That Spells - Black Om Rising DVD+CD (Beta-Lactam Ring) [MT102] $22.25
Black Om Rising is a tightly wound precision time piece ringing the hours with an effervescent brutality. The rhythm section growls with a low, mean thudding punch that could give the back end of The Birthday Party or Big Black the business in a street fight. Black Om Rising ascends; a beautifully bejeweled bloody stump of instrumental brilliance. Powerful, melodious, charismatic, dynamic, weird and ballsy to the core. STS has compassed an album whose every drone, silence and screech is so slyly crafted that Mozart called from the 18th century demanding amps!A Japanese tour CD/DVD with 500 copies available for North America and 500 for Japan. Audio CD plus region free DVD consisting of the entire Black Om Rising album performed live. Mastered by TATSUYA YOSHIDA of RUINS.

Colours - Love Heals: The Complete Recordings CD (Now Sounds) [crnow3] $15.00
Colours launched onto the scene in 1968 with a stunningly glorious psychedelic masterpiece of L.A studio wizardry. A super group before the name was coined, Colours was the brainchild of Gary Montgomery & Jack Dalton, two hard-working, former Motown songwriters who also penned songs for The Turtles, Nino & April and The Moon. This magical mystery tour-de-force of psychedelic Beatlesque pop also features the talents of Derek & The Dominos bassist Carl Radle. This first-ever CD issue of their long-out-of-print albums (Colours and Atmosphere) is supplemented by long-lost 67 Dalton & Montgomery recordings cut just months before they formed Colours. 1969 s Atmosphere features former Beach Boy David Marks around the same time he was a member of The Moon another band with many connections to Colours. The 16-page colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev - Ola titles.

Dr. Boogie - Shim Sham Shimmy CD (Sub Rosa) [SR279CD] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 07-22-2008
This is the third volume in Sub Rosa's collection devoted to rare and lost recordings from the `20s to the `60s, following Dr. Boogie Presents Rarities from the Bob Hite Vaults and Oh, Run Into Me, But Don't Hurt Me! Female Blues Singers - Rarities 1923-1930. Shim Sham Shimmy has been assembled by Belgian radio personality, musicologist, and Canned Heat devotee, Walter De Paduwa aka Dr. Boogie. Is it really possible to imagine what modern music would sound like if a few pioneering geniuses had not had the idea of electrifying their instruments, especially guitar and harmonica, between 1945 and 1950? Some purists pan this evolution, but, in the `50s, the new sound was heard and embraced at all the studios and night clubs in the United States; it would become a staple on the radio, and in pop culture in general, radically transforming the blues, boogie and country into acts of rebellion. This collection pays tribute to about thirty artists, some of whom later became known, like "Master of the Telecaster" Albert Collins, boogie-woogie and blues pianist Champion Jack Dupree, slide guitar innovator Homesick James, harmonica and blues singer, Sammy Myers, "The Boogie Disease" author Doctor Ross, and one-man band wild-man, Joe Hill Louis. ==

Earl Rodney - Friends & Countrymen CD (Em Records) [EM1077CD] $19.00
RELEASE DATE: 07-22-2008
As part of EM Records' ongoing Steel Pan series, here is Friends & Countrymen by Earl Rodney - the first-ever solo album from a Trinidadian steel pan player. This reissue of the original 1973 LP, recorded in New York City by Rodney and fellow expatriate Trinidadians, is a rootsy stew of Caribbean, Afro-Yoruba and funk influences. Heavy, propulsive and deep, driven by island percussion and funky bass, peppered by the imaginative phrasing of steel pan veteran Rodney, with slatherings of horns and wicked wah-wah guitar, this is a revolutionary release - fusion in the best sense of the word.

Glenn Branca - Symphony #5 CD (Atavistic) [ALP015CD] $13.75
2008 repress. Subtitled "Describing Planes Of an Expanding Hypersphere". Recorded in 1984 but held up in a post-production stasis until now, this is music for 5 guitars, mallet guitar, violin, drums, bass, keyboards, that is being touted as the "most dense, cacophonous Branca symphony yet."

Late, The - Songs From The Family Tree CD (Wooden Hill) [WH021CD] $21.00
"Although harmony-based British soft rock act Unicorn didn't release their superb debut album, Uphill All The Way, until mid-1971, the core of the band had been playing together, principally as The Late, for several years. Taken from previously unreleased acetates and studio tapes, Songs From The Family Tree charts the group's hitherto undocumented progress from 1967 to 1969"

M.E.V. - Spacecraft/Unified Patchwork Theory CD (Alga Marghen) [ALGA038CD] $18.50
2008 repress! "In the fall of 1966 a group of composers that included Frederic Rzewski, Alvin Curran, Allen Bryant, Jon Phetteplace, Giuseppe Chiari and Richard Teitelbaum organized `Avanguardia Musicale I', a festival of several consecutive nights at the Accademia Filarmonica Romana. The program included tape music, Fluxus performance art pieces and live electronic works. It was also the beginning of the group MEV.

Peanut Butter Conspiracy - For Children Of All Ages CD (Rev-Ola) [crrev253] $15.00
RELEASE DATE: 06-30-2008
Perhaps it was just their name, but the Peanut Butter Conspiracy somehow failed to reap due plaudits during their existence. From an early incarnation as the Ashes onwards, their story intertwines with those of several Californian contemporaries while, at its best, the band's music fused Bay Area-styled invention with 60s LA sunshine harmonies. They scored early on with the deathless Turn On A Friend (To The Good Life) This, their final album, may not scale such heights, but it nonetheless provides a fascinating coda to the group's complex history. Moving into rock and R&B areas at times, we still have the soulful vocals of Alan Brackett mixed with the ethereal tones of Sandy Robison for that unique and loveable PBC sound.

Pentangle - The Lost Broadcasts 1968-1972 2CD (Hux) [HUX049CD] $25.75
"This double CD of Pentangle's BBC recordings is comprised primarily of rare and previously unheard tracks. From 1968 to 1973, Pentangle were prolific session guests on BBC radio, their unique fusion of sounds providing access to programmes covering folk, pop and progressive rock. When BBC cupboards were trawled for these recordings in the early `90s, they were almost bare - a mere handful of tracks survived in the tape archive (released on the Band Of Joy/Strange Fruit labels). More recently, however, a further twelve tracks, in pristine sound, were discovered buried deep in the BBC archives.."

Soft Machine - Softstage: BBC In Concert 1972 CD (Hux) [HUX070CD] $17.25
2005 release. "This live BBC concert was recorded at London's Paris Theatre on July 20,1972, just a few months before the live and studio material for band's album Six was put together. The Six album is widely regarded as a great record, but as the critic Duncan Heining says in his liner notes to Softstage, this CD is actually even better. This concert was the fifth by this incarnation of Soft Machine, with Karl Jenkins joining Mike Ratledge, Hugh Hopper and John Marshall, adding his considerable skills on woodwinds and keyboards, not to mention his talents as composer. This performance also showcases the exceptional Hopper-Marshall rhythm section."

Sprung aus den Wolken - Faux Pas 1 CD (Klanggalerie) [09601] $18.25
Faux Pas 1 was Sprung aus den Wolken's first album, released in 1982 and recorded at the infamous Cassettencombinat studio. Member of the band at that time was also Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten. We are very proud to bring you a re-issue of this milestone of German avantgarde in an expanded form of 15 tracks!. If you're interested in minimal electronica, early German Industrial or just rough pop music, have a go at this. It is a perfect companion to the "Early Recordings" CD we released a couple of years ago.

Stone Harbour - Emerges CD (Lion Productions) [LION621CD] $15.00

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks - Shut Up and Bleed CD (Cherry Red) [CDMRED367CD] $15.00
"Here we compiled all Teenage Jesus and The Jerks recordings, alongside some NEVER previously released live material. Simultaneous to Teenage Jesus, Lunch formed Beirut Slump, released one single and recorded an album's worth of material, which is also included on this remarkable release."

Tubes, The - Goin Down The Tubes CD (Cherry Red) [cdmred363] $15.00
Reissue of this classic compilation, taken from the Tubes' golden period during their time with A&M records in the late 1970's. This double CD takes from all their best-loved albums and includes the entire remote control album that was released in 1979, produced by Todd Rundgren. The CD booklet features a UK discography, sleeve notes and lyrics to the singles included on the album. Also many of the band's brilliant and visually striking album images are featured throughout the booklet. The CD features 5 of the band's best known singles 'White Punks On Dope', 'Don't Touch Me There', 'Prime Time', 'TV is King' and 'Love's A Mystery (I Don't Understand)'. The Tubes created a unique blend of tongue in cheek theatrical rock that found a niche within the whole punk/new wave movement of the mid-late 70's. They built a huge reputation for their outrageously extravagant live shows, performing at Knebworth festival and a record breaking run at the old Hammersmith Odeon. The Tubes are still working today. The band tours extensively across the us and they have a very well presented and supported official website www.thetubes.com

Various Artists - Allergic to Flowers: Garage Beat & Popsike - Part 2 1965-68 CD (RPM) [RPM838CD] $16.50

Warner Jepson - Totentanz and Other Electronic Works 1958-1973 2CD (Melon Expander) [MELON005CD] $16.50
"The act of dusting off old forgotten master tapes, and old people too, can reveal a myriad of results. Crappy music that sounded great to the stoned performer at the time, crappy music that sounded great before time ate away at the tapes, great music trapped behind various complications, or, in the case with Warner Jepson, great music from a composer enthusiastic about revisiting it. Jepson recorded over 200 ?" tape reels full of electronic sounds at the San Francisco Tape Music Center, Mills College and The National Center for Experiments in Television (NCET). Some of them were used as soundtracks for theatre productions and art films, and some were heard ephemerally at art galleries, parties and `happenings' in the late `60s and early `70s. Only one document was ever released - the soundtrack to Totentanz, a ballet by Carlos Carvajal, on an LP that yielded a circulation of only 300 copies in 1971. This 2CD release is a reissue of that Totentanz LP, plus many other pieces that vary in content from his late `50s musique concrète experiments to rhythmic prepared piano and tape pieces to sprawling meditative sound paintings done on the 100 and 200 series Buchla synthesizers."

Nerk and Dirk give the sub-bass inferno "F***ingham Palace" even MORE bass, while Modeselektor carry the principle of "comic techno" to the absolute extreme. Deepgroove and Jamie Anderson turn down the stomping beat of the original "Queen Anne's Revenge" a little bit, but it's still incredibly edgy.

Axel Bartsch - Kiss 2x12 inch (Karmarouge) [KR035LP] $19.00
Double-12" vinyl version of Axel Bartsch's debut full-length, Kiss, previously released on CD by Karmarouge. After a few 12" releases on Kompakt, Sportclub and Spielzeug, Axel Bartsch made the final decision to name his album Kiss because of his passion for music... because music is like kissing - highly emotional and sensual, as the feeling of approaching lips. These are melodic and energetic tracks that space out into ambience against minimalist hooks, classic techno, dub, and vocal experimentation, dipping into the abstractness of familial and emotional electronic soundscapes. Kiss celebrates the glorious pressure and tension felt in the body when the dancer is animated by a grooving techno current - moving, throbbing, and finally being released in hisses and pops, like being kissed by music.

Dan Drastic - Xibeca 12 inch (Hairy Claw) [HAIRY010EP] $11.50
"Dan Drastic is a German producer and DJ with impeccable taste. Previous output for Highgrade has been superb and he has some amazing stuff due to drop on Moon Harbour (where he takes care of promotions in fine style) so Hairy Claw have handpicked him for the first release of 2008. Deep, groovy and with just the right amount of drive, `Xibeca' is a modern house cut of the highest order. Supernature and Tsuba artists Bearweasel take the techier elements of Dan's original and twist them into a flowing tech-house cut - so there's something for the heavier crowds too. There are big things afoot with Hairy Claw, we'll keep you posted."

Deadbeat - Versionist Carmot 12 inch (Wagon Repair) [WAG039EP] $11.50
This is Deadbeat's second Wagon Repair release in quick succession. Versionist Carmot blends dubstep and house in a pulsating techno workout. "Boil" progresses sharply with off-beat rhythmic melody and probing percussion. "Freeze" soothes with icy-cool looped dub guitar and reverberating percussion. "Evaporate" is a deeper house number, with cymbals riding high alongside sampled machinery and a throbbing synth melody. "Incinerate" closes procedures with a combustive climax - a fiery mix of percussion and bubbling melody.

It's the most concentrated effort we've ever made. We're perceiving it as--in a non-religious fashion--basically being born again. We're definitely handling this like it's the first record we've ever made. It's not some experiment or project. Musically, it's obvious how it differs from the others. I think it's different in everything--different in spirit, different musically, different people."

What do you get when Jello Biafra and three of the Zen Guerillas attack two songs for a Reverend Horton Heat compilation? You get this aural ass-kicking of a 7-inch! The A-side is their scathing take on the classic rockabilly tune, "Jezebel," while the B-side is their version of the Rev's awesome tune "Speed Demon!" The cover art is hand-picked by Jello- and if you think the topless blonde with the dog is striking, wait 'til you see the other side!

John Dahlbäck - Pyramid 12 inch (Pickadoll Music) [PICK036EP] $12.25
After the super-elegant album release Winners & Fools, which caused a massive stir in ALL clubs, John Dahlbäck keeps on rocking with more canned adrenaline. Positive house vibes and a melody that will stick in your head and put a smile on your face. A more aggressive mix comes from the well-known new producer/genius Dirty South. The melody walks hand-in-hand with a big house piano. A true must-have for all old and new Pickadoll fans.

Los Updates - First If You Please - The Remix Part 1 12 inch (Cadenza) [CADENZA026EP] $13.25
Los Updates is the latest project from Chile's Jorge González with Loreto Otero. González is one of the country's best-known musical ambassadors. His group Los Prisioneros defined the sound of Chilean rock in the `80s and `90s. In the `90s, he teamed up with the usual suspects in Latin America's expat electronica scene. Los Updates connects the dots between mindbending minimal house and unabashed pop; this first EP in a series of remix packages features an original album cut edit backed by remixes from Ricardo Villalobos and Dandy Jack & The Superhero.

Mr. Scruff - Donkey Ride/Giant Pickle 12 inch (Ninja Tuna) [ZEN12208/NinjaTuna01] $11.25
MR. SCRUFF is more than just a DJ/producer. The bearded British wonder is a cartoonist, purveyor of fine teas, club impresario, lover of fish (but not in a funny way), and general purveyor of A Better Way of Life for Right-Minded Club Folk. Now, the Mancunian maverick and Ninja Tune have come together to launch a new venture: Ninja Tuna. Instead of a traditional album campaign, over the next 18 months Ninja Tuna will release various types of Scruff ephemera, intramedia, and post-prandial devicing music, clothing, merchandise, art, and more. Here, Scruff shows all his music-making virtues are intact. Funny, funky, musically warm, and astute, but with some of that cartoonish fun-fair atmosphere that makes every Scruff release a celebration, "Donkey Ride" is a collaboration with longtime cohort QUNATIC and pianist ANDY kINGSLOW., "Giant Pickle" slaps the biggest hip hop break up against hi-life keyboards and moody strings for the most moving ode to large vegetables killed by vinegar since... well, maybe it's a first. With unfeasible bass and cowbell snaps, this will move the floor. No exports outside the US and South

Rudimentary Peni - No More Pain LP (Outer Himalayan) [BOOBOO9V] $14.50

Super Flu - Zinnober 12 inch (Herzblut) [HERZ010EP] $12.25
The Super Flu jack-masters deliver "Zinnober" - an accelerating intro, claps, a slight change in melody, some efx and bass, melody fading in and out, and people go wild. After the breakdown, everything floats on top of plastic-soaked house beats. "Mjölk" starts with a stupid and tremendous beat. Tiny snares, wobbler-effects, and used crash drums do the rest. This is a dangerous club weapon and will definitely cause huge damage on the floors.

Zero dB - Heavyweight Vinyl 12 inch (Ninja Tune) [ZEN12214] $11.25
Dirty jazz 'n' bassmeisters ZERO dB continue their remix project with all the attack, elan, grit, and sheer fun associated with their unique brand of club music, following up their remix album, Heavyweight Gringos, with a 12-inch of cuts from the good harvest of Bongos, Bleeps & Basslines remixes gathered by CHRIS VOGADO (one of the dBs) from the Fluid Ounce Friends and Familia crew plus Ninja Tune and Big Dada stablemates. These heavyweight remixers plundered the dB drives and picked their perfect partners for the dance. Featured on this vinyl-only sampler are mixes from: PETER KRUDER (KRUDER & DORFMEISTER), NWACHUKWU (ATTICA BLUES, CDR founder), and DAVE DA GATO. Jean-Pierre Massiera - Psychoses: Freakoid 1963-1978 LP (Mucho Gusto) [MGLP008] $17.00
This is volume one in the story of JEAN-PIERRE MASSIERA, the mastermind behind Maledictus Sound. Released in 1968, the album was his epiphany, produced with no artistic constraint or pressure to produce a hit. Jean-Pierre Massiera is a freeform artist with no set plan, who's career started with early '60s French beat groups continuing through the '70s, '80s and up to the present, where he now works in various French studios as a producer. Like the horror sci-fi collages of his early '70s album jackets, this compilation is homage to his fantastic Frankenstein like career, a beautiful multi layered monster.
