Niko Skorpio - Half Born in Half Light CD (Some Place Else) [SPECD08049] $19.61
Half Born in Half Light is based on the foundations of psychedelic ambient soundscapes and darkly majestic bass drone, over which tribal rhythms and magickal vocal invocations build grotesque alien monoliths whose angles mock the euclidean mathematics of conventional composition. Niko Skorpio is not restricted to one particular genre, but draws on many sources. This makes the music colourful and diverse, yet it remains coherent and has the artist’s unique fingerprints all over (this time literally in the cover as well). If we are to give it a label, let’s call it HERMETIC FUSION MUSICK.

Ovro - Revisited CD (Some Place Else) [SPECD08047] $19.61
The wondergirl of Finnish dark ambient soundscapes is back with a new album. Revisited is based on field recordings made during Ovro’s tour in Russia in 2006, subsequently processed and treated in the studio. Revisited is a powerful aural travelogue. It will lull the listener to a state of receptive trance, and then starts working on the subconscious mind. Let yourself go, lose yourself in the sound, expect lucid dreams, out-of-body experiences, alien apparitions and a shower of sound massaging your body throughout.

Serge Blenner - Virtualis CD (Serge Blenner) [MdeCCD002] $14.50
"Great new album for this French artist, who wants to show in music all a series of sensations from Latin word “virtus”, not like ethical sense but existential and creating. >From that here 12 very good tracks in a flight over classical sounds, running with electronic and to go inside in the drops of rare voices [...]. Listener is capturated by the melody so sweet and strong in the same time, soft parts and others more rhythmical. Wonderful “Splendeur”, fabulous ouverture to hear all the music developed for an hour about. Very good the sound of cello, often important to build the track. Again, Blenner has composed a rainbow of colours in music, and we can only leave ourselves to caress by its notes". © Stefania Carezzoli, (Italian)

Serge Blenner - Miroir de Soi CD (Serge Blenner) [MdeCCD003] $14.50
“Serge Blenner [...] has a unique place in the world of electronic music. His music is totally incomparable with what others do and that makes it so interesting. After he started experimenting with high-grade equipment like the PPG Wave Computer in the early eighties, his music has slowly grown into a specific sort of classical music. “Miroir de Soi” (“Mirror Of Self”) is perhaps his most classic album to date, perhaps also his most romantic. Beautiful orchestral parts, pianopieces, acoustic guitars and a lot of atmosphere have an important place on “Miroir De Soi”. It surprises me that Blenner (as far as I know) isn’t a well-known composer of filmmusic by now because his music is excellent suitable for this. Very beautiful are tracks like “Le Miroir” (nice melody), “Exlibris” (very romantic), “Projection” (a great recording) “Illumination” (darker), “Estival” (great samples of stringinstruments), “Les Méandres” (could have been music of a French film from the seventies) and “Les Anges” (samples of churchbells and fine choirs). This is very special”. © 2004 Paul Rijkens, (Netherlands)

Serge Blenner - Musique de Chambre CD (Serge Blenner) [MdeCCD004] $14.50
With "Musique de Chambre" Serge Blenner publishes his seventeenth and most demanding work. On this new album the master of electronic music sends a complete virtual chamber orchestra on stage. Came out is a sound enormous music- full of soul! Serge Blenner creates it to breathe the electronic music life. The sensitive and melodic tracks device the listeners into dreams while listening the wonderful and filigree piano, the blowers and the pearling chimes of "Les Perles" or the urgent soprano voices, the harps and the string players of "Symbiose". It is a very special sound of classical music, you can not stop listening to this new album!

About - Bongo CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock009] $11.75
Sale price! Meet "About", legally registered as Rutger Hoedemaekers in the city of Amsterdam; he makes the pop musics. His debut album, "Bongo" is f***ing great. Teen girls, gay men, kittens, puppies and architects will all adore it. Really. It's poppy as hell, but in the best way possible and you'll be tortured by how the songs stick in your head- TOURTURED! Yeah, he throws down some hardish beats and insanity in there too, but in a real pop way. Damn, motherfucker is so damn Pop he makes some old school Michael Jackson seem like he's faking it.

Andrew Liles - Somnambulance to Dream General CD (Klanggalerie) [09757] $18.25
"Somnambulance" is a reworking of an album of odd and obscure tracks that was released in a microscopic edition on CD-R before. For this CD, Mr. Liles has provided his funniest and possibly most controversial artwork as of yet. You get an hour of music of many different styles: Andrew Liles' trademark of eerie and spooky sounds is there; also electronics and a whole range of instruments are placed in between sketches and longer tracks. And if all this weren't enough, you get three bonus tracks that didn't appear on the CDR at all. After a long line of collaborations, finally a new album by Current 93 and Nurse With Wound man Liles himself!

Aranos - Koryak Mistress Stakes Golden Sky CD (Pieros) [09756] $14.75
This record contains one track, A concerto for 3 double bases, 4 violins, viola, zither, condomble drum and other things that make noise. Composition is in one movement; division into parts is possible but rather superfluous.

Originated as a simple tune on double bass harmonics. Ran away with itself simply to enjoy digital ones and noughts on little silvery disc or even smaller bits of plastic. It times about one hour before returning to its origin.

May gods bless her and all who listen to her.

She arose Gently, gently, As if not to wake Newborn reeds and rushes. Yet shimmering of her power Filled both visible and invisible.

Arpiar - Circoloco 10 Years Anniversary - Part 2 of 3 2CD (Moon Harbour) [MHR008CD] $21.25

Asmus Tietchens - Eine Ganze Menge CD-R (1000Fussler) [09753] $13.25
We are proud to present three "teilmengen" by Asmus Tietchens. 20 minutes with 3 unreleased tracks from the well known series. Sinuswaves and whitenoises are modified into enormous almost empty rooms, into snapping and nibbling abstrakt places - deserted by humans.

Asmus Tietchens has been recording music since the 1965's. First LP release 1980. Since then more than 30 releases. After a brief ?pop" period (1980 - 83) I became more + more involved in the industrial movement. From the 90s on he concentrated on minimal abstract noise music. His focus is the manipulation of found sound in ways suggested by the material itself. He is teaching Soundstudies at the University of applied Science in Hamburg, Germany. 2003 and 2006 he is winning the Karl Sczuka Prize for for Works of Radio Art. He had released on Labels like: Die Stadt, Soleilmoon, Staalplaat, Ritornell, Line, United Dairies, Croutonmusic, Esplendor Geometrico, Hamster Records, Sky Records. Collaborations with: Thomas Köner (under the name "Kontakt der Jünglinge"), Achim Wollscheid, Arcane Device (David Lee Myers), Merzbow, and many others.

Atum - Hitwa CD (Beast of Prey) [09732] $19.50
New full album - dark ambient with dark post-industrial rhythms!

If symbol can be recieved be senses, then combining with a sound, how much a concept does it makes? Is this something more, that can move our imagination a step forward? New album of Polish project Atum is atry in creating such images in our minds. As a guests on the album participated: INFAMIS, DEAD FACTORY i EQUUS.

47 minutes long album of strong dark ambient. Sounds, calm, and growing, pulsing create a grim atmosphere. Album diversified by rhytm loops, industrial hits and also acoustic guitar. Sounds for a Cold Meat fans, something between Desiderii Marginis and Megaptera.

Bass Communion / Freibrand - Haze Shrapnel CD-R (My Own Little Label) [09734] $9.00
I have been in contact with Steven Wilson off and on for quite a while. Recentely he wrote me, we traded some CDs and he liked my little enterprise. He had a spare track of 12 minutes and 'if I want to release it'. 'Sorry, and why not do a remix then', as Freiband. Next time roles will be reversed.

Begushkin - King's Curse CD (Locust) [LOCUST112CD] $13.50
"Recorded live to tape in two days, after a sleep deprived month of Beefheart style creative lockdown, Begushkin - Dan Smith's 8 headed hydra - lay to rest the twilight folk of 2007's Nightly Things and reemerge with the wicked and strange hard rock gypsy shake of King's Curse."

Black Nielson - Current Sunlight CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID022] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
Beautiful 2005 album from now defunct British troubadours. Mike now plays in LTI band Co-pilgrim. At just under 5 years since the inception of the band, Black Nielson have established an impressive reputation, both on record and as a live act. The modest level of success achieved by the band can be traced in a steady trajectory from noble beginnings on the south coast of England, formed by principle songwriter Michael Gale-- And that trajectory shows no sign of abating. Throughout their progression, Black Nielson have undertaken national tours in the UK with French Kicks, Beachwood Sparks, Mark Gardener, Goldrush, Slumberparty and The Rock Of Travolta, using their time on the road to hone any new material ready to be recorded. From the band's very first performances, it became clear it was only a matter of time before some small independent would snap them up-- Oxford's Truck Records did just that, won over by the first Black Nielson appearance at the label's own Truck festival in 2000. Recorded in just one week and released in early 2001, the debut album "Still Life Hear Me" showcases a band clearly eager to burst free from their Hampshire roots. Helped along by the two subsequent singles, "Still Life Hear Me" quickly found a following amongst an unsuspecting public. Airplay from Steve Lamacq on the Evening Session, XFM, London Live, Sean Hughes and Gideon Coe on 6Music, Mark Radcliffe and the late, great John Peel (amongst others) garnered the growing reputation of the band and complimented glowing reviews from NME, Mojo, The Fly and Careless Talk Costs Lives. The Independent awarded the first single, "Lasoo The Moon", single of the week, and everything was set for the next step. Truck studios had always been the home of Black Nielson's recording sessions in the past, and so it continued for mid 2003's "The Seahorse Boe". A new component was drafted in this time in the shape of mixer/producer Phil Vinnall. His considerable experience at the helm (working with Elastica, Pulp, Placebo, dEUS and the Zephyrs) gave the record an added depth and vivacity. "The Seahorse Boe" followed its 2001 predecessor into the media spotlight, receiving critical praise from the Independent, the Times, Rock Sound, Logo Magazine and many others, including album of the month in polish E-zine Screenager. Such widespread interest ensured international distribution of the steadily blossoming back catalogue in Europe, Scandinavia and North America. An epic, eclectic and beautiful record, "The Seahorse Boe" proved Black Nielson could continue to deliver exciting, forward thinking music. After more writing and touring in late 2003/early 2004 (including European Festival dates with Sharko), Black Nielson are again moving forward. Changing the scenery as well as upping the momentum has seen them leaving Truck Records, gaining a new drummer and moving temporarily to the Cornish coast to record their first self produced, self financed album ~V without doubt the most exciting set from the band to date. Vindication of this has already been voiced by Loose Records in the UK (set to include one song on their next influential label compilation) and much farther afield from Low Transit Industries, licensed to release Black Nielson's new opus in Australia (spring 2005). That trajectory just keeps curving upwards, and the sky's the limit.

Business Lady - Torture Footage CD (Load) [LOAD112] $14.25
REISSUED!!! Wound up and looped guitar, bass, drums action from these Southern California warriors of silliness. Definitely melodic with a dark anthemic quality not seen since Midwest pioneers MX-80 Sound or some such. This is a limited release for Load Records but exists to erect a fitting Easter Island-styled "head" on your island. Definitley sharing certain kinship with the Silver Daggers blast of junk punk, but existing more as an island in the room temperature weirdness that is San Diego. Tune in to this fascinating document of a band with zonked songs and fabulous costumes. Or sleep through it and miss the 21st century. Limited edition of 500 copies.

Candlesnuffer - Apsomeophone CD (Lexicon Devil) [LEXDEV017CD] $12.25
No description available at this time.

Catz 'n' Dogz - Stars of Zoo CD (Mothership) [MSHIP001CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-16-2008
First full-length release on Claude von Stroke's Mothership label, subsidiary of Dirtybird. This is the debut release by Catz `N Dogz, the Polish duo who also comprise 3 Channels. 3 Channels have amazing releases on Crosstown Rebels, Trapez, and Dirtybird, but Catz `N Dogz is a totally new and original sound. Stars of Zoo is a hybrid masterpiece; a beautiful cross between the best elements of deep house, minimal techno, and cinematically-arranged live instrumentation.

Christina Carter - Original Darkness CD (Kranky) [KRANK122CD] $12.75
"The latest album from the longtime Charalambides mainstay follows her Electrice album from late 2006 on Kranky as well as a split album with Pocahaunted from early in 2008.."

Christopher Mcfall - All For the Terror CD-R (1000Fussler) [09752] $9.25
"Many of the sound tailorings used in these works were resultant from source material consisting of several recording sessions involving a flock of black birds that routinely roost within the building architecture in the downtown district of Kansas City at night. I found this series of recordings to be absolutely fascinating, as the chatter and cross talk between this rather charged group of birds seemed to assume a definitive dialogue, as they seemed to banter back and forth endlessly. Given this, I began manipulating them further and integrating them into other recordings. As I began to work more and more with these pieces, I felt there was a sense of almost primeval sophistication to the quality of these recordings; a direct contradiction however the notion of this became the source from which the names for the track listings emerged. Confidence, cunning and endurance: All for the terror that sings sweetly to you in the night."

Co-Pilgrim - Pucker Up Buttercup CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID039] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-29-2008
Sparkling & beautiful down beat pop gem from British troubadour Mike Gale. Co-Pilgrim was started in August of 2005 by Mike Gale following the demise of his former band Black Nielson. Black Nielson a U.K alternative country band released three full length albums, two of which were released on Oxford based independent label Truck Records, their third and final album was released in Australia on Melbourne based record label Low Transit Industries. During their time together Black Nielson toured consistently across the U.K and Europe and also undertook a month long tour of Australia in 2005. After recording the debut Co-Pilgrim album 'Pucker Up Buttercup'at Truck Studios in England, Gale received an offer from Darren Smallman at Low Transit Industries to release the work nationwide in Australia and to become the bands manager. Gale decided to accept both of these offers and chose to relocate to Melbourne to be closer to his label and manager. 'Pucker Up Buttercup was released on Low Transit Industries across Australia in March of 2007. The album received glowing reviews and substantial airplay. Gale had been toying with the idea of adding a female vocalist/guitarist for a while so when he met Alysia Manceau at one of her former bands shows in Melbourne he decided to ask if she'd be interested in joining Co-Pilgrim. Alysia Manceau is a self taught musician who began playing guitar at the age of five. After Studying film and television at RMIT in Melbourne she realised that her true passion in life was music. Writing and performing locally in Melbourne since 2000 as a solo artist ,her formidable underground reputation as one of Melbournes most unique singers and guitarists led to her becoming a founding member in Alternative Country/Rock and Roll band Ned And The Meds. Luckily for Gale, Manceau agreed to take up his offer of joining Co-Pilgrim formally and the two have been working together since, indeed, such was the pairs belief in their new found unison that Gale moved into Manceau's sharehouse in order to live and breath together with the music they create, which is a beautiful blend of folk and country, with emphasis on space and harmonies. The newly strengthened Co-Pilgrim have been performing frequently around Melbourne for the past six months as well as recording a demo CD of future single and album material. With tours across Australia and the U.K in the works, a single/EP planned for release by Low Transit Industries in late 2008 and a follow up album in 2009, these are exciting and creative times for the pair and their growing number of fans. ~U Tours of the USA & Europe are in planning for the release of their next record in 2009. ~U Two tracks from the album are apart of the current Adidas mobile phone download campaign in the USA. ~U Worldwide marketing campaign starting spring 08 to coincide with worldwide retail push. ~U Websites: http://www.lowtransitindustries.com / http://myspace.com/ "'Pucker Up Buttercup' is impressively assured and quite easily marks Co-Pilgrim as one to keep an eye on. For anyone who appreciates soul in their music, it's highly recommended" dB magazine "The overall result is a record that is simultaneously sad and joyful" Rave magazine "Effortlessly tugging on heartstrings here and there, the result is reminiscent of a more subdued Richard Swift or a torch-singer gone porch-singer. Pretty stuff with a heart full of promise, can't wait to hear more" Cheese On Toast "The album lasts just over half-an-hour, meaning the ten songs don't hang about. Like the wonderful minuet of The Blessing of a Cure, piano minor and vocals soft; it's fleeting appearance sums up a great album which known when just enough is sometimes the best" Rockus

Dirt Crew - Dirt Crew Presents Collection 02 DJ Mix CD (Dirt Crew) [DIRT004CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-16-2008

Doormouse - Stanley Yerkowski presents: Xylophone Jism as The Ridiculator CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock003] $11.75
So way, way, way back in 1994 Dan Doormouse first starting making hardcore techno in Milwaukee Wisconsin, then one day he stumbled upon a Sun Ra record and thus, "Breakcore" in the United States of America was born. He began the legendary Addict and Distort record labels soon after, and began releasing the most f***ed up high intensity music the world has ever seen. The nephew of Lemme from motorhead (really, no shit!), Dan soon started performing solo and with his band Meat around Milwaukee in the Midwest of the US, gaining a massive following of renegades, speed freaks and social workers. Somehow, Mike Paradinas (Mu-ziq) took notice, and "Broken" was Dan's first major CD release in 2002 on the Planet Mu record label. But it comes as no surprise that the sorted and complex realities of Breakcore stardom (in this case of bottle of Jack Daniels, and some misplaced punches) made it difficult to continue with Planet Mu . Naturally, Dan finds a home here at Cock Rock Disco with "Stanley Yershonowski presents Xylophone Jism as The Ridiculator."

Dutchesses - Estupet CD (Apop) [09744] $13.25
This precocious all-girl quartet with an average age of 19 create a Medusa's head of sound; their influences range from Death In June to Kate Bush. The musical result is a motley collision of razorchainsaw guitars (Alice Dee), sinister high school marching band drums (Traci), seasick rolling basslines (Eva Borg), all heading into battle lead by a screaming banshee-girl-thing spitting acid and venomous bile (Amber Alert!). Don't be deceived by their youth and knee-highs.

Supported and celebrated by the experimental music communities of San Francisco, L.A. and San Diego, local luminaries appear all over the record. In the midst of graduating high school and "leaving the nest," the 4 fledglings recorded these songs themselves. It was then mixed by Bobb Bruno (Polar Goldie Cats, Goliath Bird Eater), and edited and mastered by Weasel Walter (Flying Lutenbachers, Lair of the Minotaur, Lake of Dracula). The second half of the record is comprised of heavy, extremely f***ed up, psychedelic remixes by Weasel Walter, Sunshine Militant Childrens Hour, Ops Spirits, Qulfus, and Blanketship.

Evapori - Na Katarynce CD-R (1000Fussler) [09750] $9.25
the flea market discovery of an old polish waltz 7" vinyl single served evapori as source material for his composition 'na katarynce', called like the waltz of the same name. the vinyl was scratched, cut and digitally edited. afterwards he made the material freed from the information evaporate on his hard disc to fine sizzling lumps.

F/i - Paradise Out Here CD (Lexicon Devil) [LEXDEV018CD] $12.25
No description available at this time.

Fonda 500 - Je M'Applelle Stereo CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID047] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
Big, loud, quirky, rock... what else can we say. VIVA FONDA 500!!! Since emerging from a disillusioned British music scene in 2000 with their critically acclaimed album '8 Track Sound System', Fonda 500 have pre-empted musical styles and scenes, and released a succession of influential yet highly individual albums. Their forthcoming release 'Je M'appelle Stereo' is no exception. True to form Fonda 500 are once again unapologetically irreverent, this time gifting us with a true timeless classic, full of woderment, love and audacious twists and turns brimming with Northern swagger. Refreshingly free from gimmicks and trends, 'Je M'appelle Stereo' will both electrify the body and warm the soul. Fonda 500 sound like all your favourite bands from the last 40 years queuing up to dive into a pool full of jelly puppies. That's not to say they don't have their moments of melancholy, pathos and seriousness. It's just that once you're on board this new musical love train, you'll see that the refreshment carriage is always open, the hostesses are accommodating and the glass is always full. In short, you'll never want to alight. The sound of Fonda 500 makes a beguiling group photograph. Outrageous Led Zep riffs firmly hold up the back row whilst Beatles rhythms make rabbit ears sneakily behind Kraftwerks' upright mid-row stance. SFA mess up the middle of the photograph by tickling ELO in the ribs and making the 2nd row a blur. The front row is topped off with the Beastie Boys sat hands on knees next to Cornelius, with beautiful Brian Wilson cheekily lying on the floor pretending to swim. "Who the hell is this? This is awesome!" is the correct two sentence response to first listening to the new record from Fonda 500... Think Grandaddy meets The Beatles meets Super Furry Animals (without being annoyingly quirkily Welsh) meets awesome" CHEESE ON TOAST "Twisted pop magic of the highest order" NME "Great pop moments topple into each other... play loud and often" Mojo "Some of the best off kilter, genius pop ever recorded in a bedroom" The Edge

Frans De Waard - Untitled (Le poeme d'une vie bien remplie) CD-R (My Own Little Label) [09735] $9.00
Rutger asked me to play on the same night as he did in Leeuwarden and 'if I could incorporate some text'. I asked Dmitry Vasiljev of Monochrome Vision to speak a short Mayakovsky text, in Russian of course, and this 3" captures the slightly edited concert

Freiband - Reflection CD-R (My Own Little Label) [09737] $9.00
Piano sources recorded on boxing day, transformed in the days after with the final mix on new years eye 2007. Moody textured music with a bite.

Freiband - Capture CD-R (My Own Little Label) [09739] $9.00
On March 14th 2008 the 2LP 'Audioscoop' was released, with a.o. a track by Kapotte Muziek. At the presentation I did a remix in the style of 'Captured Music' (on Selektion), using a lot of the sound material from the 2LP. This has become 'Capture'.

Freiband - Replicas CD (Monochrome Vision) [09741] $14.25
Highly conceptual project that combines features of remix, recycling and plagiarism - the re-interpretation of classic album by Asmus Tietchens "Daseinsverfehlung". All what can be heard on this CD, as always in case of Frans de Waard framework, is made from music that already existed: every sound, word in titles and even the cover picture - all is just processing and manipulation techniques.

Release date is 24st November 2007. Limited edition of 500 copies in jewelcase

Golgotha/Dawn & Dusk Entwined - Sang Graal CD (Cold Meat Industry) [09760] $15.50
'Sang Graal' is an opus magnum, built in symbiotic collaboration during the last two years by the French masters of martial neo-classic Dawn and Dusk Entwined and the German Ritual-folk-band :Golgatha: - both formations well know from their recent albums on CMI. Both bands worked on all tracks together, combining their styles and forces to create a powerful neo-classical-folk-opera with occasional glimpses of soundtrack pathos and dark ambience. A wide range of acoustic instruments was used (guitar, viola, bass guitar, flute, gong, piano, dulcimer, percussion) and at least three vocalists appear - including Sorakey from :Golgatha:'s appraised 'Tales of Transgression and Sacrifice'. Martial tunes like 'The Messiah' or 'Cross of Lorraine' and majestic folk hymns like 'Crusade' and 'A Seeker Divine' will rule the darkest dance floors worldwide, while introspective ballads invite those interested in a deep listening experience. 'Sang Graal' is true aural mythology!

The title refers to the myth of the Saint Graal, the 'holy grail', and the 'sang real', the bloodline of Jesus Christ. The album researches on various levels the different readings of the grail through the centuries, from an ancient fertility rite to the popular conspiracy theory.

'In its astral-mythical origins, long before its Christian interpretation, the Holy Grail is the spring and the magic cauldron of daylight itself - the Sun. But the Sun has to be cut from the clouds and to be won: Indra in the Indian myth and Thor in the Germanic myth were the heroes who conquered the cauldron of the Sun through the Spear of Lightning. Only later this cauldron became the Christian chalice, in which Joseph of Arimatäa caught the blood of Christ, this differently 'hot' essence from the Other Sun...' Ernst Bloch, The Principle of Hope

The pagan roots of this myth are once again revealed!

The 6-pages digipak features unique photos by Birthe Klementowski and photos/artwork by David Sabre.

Gregory Büttner - 3/1 CD-R (1000Fussler) [09749] $9.25
Rustling, tinkling and a faint remainder of instrumental tunes - despite their frosty atmosphere the three tracks remain breezy, the darkness doesn't turn sinister and their tranquility doesn't become sleepy. - hazy music -

Gregory Büttner - Every CD-R (1000Fussler) [09751] $9.25
'every' is the second contribution of gregory büttner for the 3"-cd-series on 1000füssler. the human voice was exclusivly used as source material, though taken in parts and only in the epilogue recognizable as voice. abstract minimalism between sawing sounds and whirring from far away.

Gregory Büttner - Walze 1-8 CD (Firework Edition) [09755] $19.75
"The source material of the compositions are historical recordings made on wax cylinders (German: "Walze") from the archive of the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. The recordings were all made at the beginning of the last century in different parts of the world. For each of my eight pieces I processed the sounds and noises of one wax cylinder using a computer, sometimes modulating them with sine waves (Walzen 3, 4 and 8), combining them to new compositions. I was interested in the interplay of recorded "memory", imagination (who sang/played what where and why?) and the disintegration of the information by the material (background noise, technical faults, decay), the fading of semiotic contexts and lastly in my electronic processing. My method was to contrast and integrate the sound of the wax cylinders and the transported audio content. The recording and storing of immaterial "audio information" made me curious and inspired me to work with the material. Like old photographs that slowly fade, the "audio information" disappears or changes either by decay of the medium or on the semiotic level by the ignorance of the listener who, the older the material becomes, only can imagine how the person whose song or music is played posthumously, thought or lived. In his essay "Die helle Kammer" (English title: "Camera Lucida") Roland Barthes describes the paradox situation in the coincidence of past and present which takes place when looking at old photos. A similar effect is achieved through the renewed sounding of recorded voices from the past. Of course this holds true with any recording, but is intensified by the old age of the wax cylinder recordings, after all it is likely that all the people that created the music are dead. The impression of times past is increased by technical traces like crackling, rustling, etc. comparable to the changing of colors, folds, scratches and spots on old photographs."

Gregory Büttner Stephan Nicolai, Asmus Tietchens, Stefan Funck - Heizung Raum 318 CD (1000Fussler) [09754] $19.75
The four musicians have been meeting weekly in room 318 for years, but only now did they create music using the acoustics of the room. To be more precise, using one element in the room: the heating. The heating has two problems: first, it doesn't heat. Second, it whistles. Problem one is unnerving, especially during the winter. Problem two can be used aesthetically: by turning the radiator knobs, not only can the pitch of the whistling be varied, by using several radiators a multitude of sounds and noises can be created. To add to that, the three radiators used influence one another so that the musicians can provoke aimed acoustic situations. The three radiators were played simultaneously and recorded using a room microphone to create the material for the seven tracks. The unedited version can be heard on track eight.

Joe Carducci - Enter Naomi: SST, LA and All That Book (Redoubt Press) [761232] $19.50
JOE CARDUCCI's Enter Naomi began as the author's attempt to discover what had happened to music photographer NAOMI PETERSEN. She worked most notably at SST Records in the 1980s. At the May, 2005 premiere of the Minutemen documentary, We Jam Econo, word spread that she had died two years earlier. As Carducci found out more about her years before and after SST, his planned email death notice became a lengthy photo-essay for the web and eventually this book. "This is an absolutely mesmerizing introduction to L.A.'s punk pantheon of outside musicians, artists, photographers, and performers. As Carducci reminds us, the wild kids on the Strip, the Strand, and the Desert created a potent musical underground in the shadow of the corporate-entertainment industry and it continues to subvert and inspire."-Mike David (City of Quartz, Planet of Slums). 270 pages, with photos, illustrations.

Michael Knight - I'm Not Entirely Clear How I Ended Up Like This CD (Yesboyicecream) [YBI11CD] $17.25
"I'm Not Entirely Clear How I Ended Up Like This" is the debut UK release for Dublin/Berlin beat combo Michael Knight and represents the logical progression in their ongoing musical argument that influences as diverse Beethoven, Bach and Bacharach can make compelling bedfellows. The result is 11 slices of the most irresistibly sophisticated pop music and, as further evidence of their genius, the album has been released with instrumetal and vocal versions of each song. Imagine Modesst Mussorgsky backing Jens Lekman and you're halfway there. The presence of Brian O'Shaughnessy (The Clientele, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine) on mixing duties should give an indicaton of the sonic palette on offer: sweeping strings, haunting harmonies and dramatic mood swings. The cd comes in a double cd gatefold digipak, complete with liner notes & lyrics. REVIEWS: "Why Michael Knight aren't already huge is both baffling and beguiling; but sooner or later these songs will be discovered. I may as well say it in advance, then; I told you so". SoundsXP. "Supremely beautiful songs, which have a heart, a soul, a wry sense of humour and none of that upsetting necessity to make every lyrical couplet rhyme" In Dublin.

Mighty Kong - All I Wanna Do Is Rock CD (Aztec Music) [AVS037CD] $21.00
"Aussie rock icon Ross Wilson has been at the helm of two of Australia's biggest bands (Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock) plus one of our more obscure: Mighty Kong. Mighty Kong lasted less than a year, but they did leave us with one terrific and underrated album: All I Wanna Do Is Rock.'"

Mike Shannon - Memory Tree CD (Plus 8) [PLUS8102CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-16-2008
This is Mike Shannon's third full-length album. It's been 10 years since Shannon started making a name for himself on the international techno scene as a DJ, producer and label owner (Cynosure, Revolver). Now, having recently relocated to Berlin, he's crowning his first decade of active service with Memory Tree. Shannon's music covers a broader spectrum than just minimal techno. In fact, 2005's Possible Conclusions To Stories That Never End was awash with downbeat electronica, highlighting a natural instinct for fusing rhythm and melody whatever the style or tempo. Although Memory Tree follows a more club-oriented trajectory, it retains much of the emotional response generated on Possible Conclusions and is all the better for it. As a result, Shannon has put together a collection of tunes that are simultaneously dark and soulful, staying true to his roots while embracing the future with a flurry of kick-ass, funk-inflected beats.

New Estate - Out of the Ground CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID051] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 08-18-2008
New album from Melbourne indie elite featuring members of Sleepy Township & Jaguar is Jaguar. 'Out of the Ground' is organic, gritty, raw, loud, sometimes mean, sometimes raucous and occasionally placatory. It's the culmination of a five year search by four adventurers for the perfect synthesis of their different whiles and ways. Nine months after their first gig in March 2003, New Estate ~V who first rehearsed as Mia Schoen, Larry G and Marc Regueiro-McKelvie - launched their debut album, 'Considering...' . Released in both Australia and the United States, its combination of noise and catchy pop/rock found wide-spread appeal, however lost its legs due to their former bass player, Mindy, leaving the band a few weeks afterwards. Enter Brad Cosier who had been in attendance at Mindy's final gig. Brad introduced an entirely new sound to what's now seen as the classic band line up, including funk, soul and classic rock at its best. He wrote songs as well! With four songwriters in the band with extremely varied influences, a spanner was thrown in the works of the (let's be honest) ultra-conservative "indie" scene and New Estate dropped off the local radar. For a good three years New Estate composed, recorded and performed like ghosts on speed, gigging at least once week in Melbourne alone (as well as the odd flirt with Sydney and Brisbane) and releasing home recorded singles and EPs to the delight of those who knew better. It was a time of gross under-documentation and lack of recognition, yet massive personal and musical growth for all involved ~V the band, friends and fans. Fast forwarding to 2007, New Estate re-emerged with 'Is It Real' ~V an album that made a bold, albeit nervous introduction as the band they're supposed to be. Recorded by Simon Grounds, it perfectly captured a band that was volatile, scared of their future, however seemingly unable to go down without a fight. Also recorded by Simon Grounds, their new album, 'Out Of The Ground' packs the punches and serves as a statement of intent for all they aspire to be ~V a band not afraid of the dirt but more than capable of digging themselves out before anyone's noticed. "You need this album before the cold really hits. It will be like a psyical presence keeping you company through the rains & chills of this winter. Those lucky enough to possess it will be the proud owners of a slice of Melbourne history as these guys gain more praise" A Fine Line. "New Estate deliver a searing listen, a sonic snapshot bolstered by songs that will not be hits, but should be" Beat "It's all a beautiful shambles" The City Hub "There's a twisted sense of humour at work here and a definite 'that'll do' approach. But New Estate also have pop smarts-- consistently good" Rolling Stone - 3 stars "beautifully made music to which you can magic carpet away to a place where you sleep inside the big warm basin of new headphones, lulled to sleep by the warm waves of resonating anthemic-ness" The Dwarf

New Estate - Is It Real? CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID056] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
Sleepy Township & Jaguar is Jaguar. New Estate started in 2002 when at the demise of Sleepy Townnship, Mia Schoen and Chris Gorman of ST kept the fires burning by enlisting New Zealand guitar god Marc Regueiro-McKelvie and Mindy Mapp (formerly of Fur) to complete the melodic noise quartet that is NEW ESTATE. This format produced a debut album: Considering-- which was released locally on W.Minc records and internationally on LA's Kittridge Records. A warm and accomplished home recording, Considering-- received much airplay on Australian stations: 3RRR, 4ZZZ, RTR, 2SER and college radio around the USA, as well as passionate reviews from all corners of the globe attracting comparisons to such varied acts as My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, and the Faces. Due to work commitments Mindy left and was soon replaced by Brad Cosier on bass who added another song writer to the band making a new total of 4. New Estate toured in Sydney and Brisbane in 2004 and released an EP in 2005 and 2006 respectively. They have just completed their second album: Is It Real? stepping up to a bigger, studio production which highlights the songs' strength and variation. Is It Real? is due for release on Low Transit Industries early 2007. New Estate plan to tour Is It Real? in Australia and the US in the not too distant future. "You need this album before the cold really hits. It will be like a psyical presence keeping you company through the rains & chills of this winter. Those lucky enough to possess it will be the proud owners of a slice of Melbourne history as these guys gain more praise" A Fine Line / The Dwarf. "New Estate deliver a searing listen, a sonic snapshot bolstered by songs that will not be hits, but should be" Beat "It's all a beautiful shambles" The City Hub "What really sets New Estate apart is the hazy cool of their fuzz rock - there's a vast difference between Don Henly and company takin' it easy and Thurston Moore deadpanning that it takes a teenage riot to get her out of bed and Is It Real? Falls on the right side of that divide. Their music is laconic but never lazy; it takes a lot of effort to sound this unaffected" Mess+Noise "There's a twisted sense of humour at work here and a definite 'that'll do' approach.

Next Life - Electric Violence CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock008] $11.75
CD also includes 4 minute video of live performances! You simply aren't ready for Next Life. So rare is it that you discover a band with such an original sound, coming from somewhere within their own universe that when you do find a band such as this, it's always surprising. We proudly introduce you to Next Life. Hailing from Oslo, Norway Next Life are Hai Nguyen Dinh and Tormod Christensen. They make music that fetishistic ally explores the twin worlds of Deathmetal and game music with a preciousness that some how skirts into the art-rock realm. Around the office, we call their sound "Gameboy Deathmetal" and when you hear a second of the record, you'll know why. Basically it's real guitar, synth guitar, Nintendo "vocals" and programmed beats made to fit a metal archetype. This refined and personal new music somehow always winks at the artifice through which it was created (which is why it is also completely unnerdy). Lastly, a side note here about Next Life. These guys f***ing ROCK live. You wouldn't believe it could work, but live they are like vicious robots spasmodically jerking to every power chord and chugging riff. They are available for booking, and really, they are probably one of the very best new bands around. Email us to get their booking info. Their album 'Electro Violence' is gonna burn a hole in your Cd player; we can't stop listening to it.

O.W.L. - Of Wondrous Legends CD (Locust) [LOCUST110CD] $13.50
"Proof that there's still excellent albums out there to discover. Drawing mainly on art rock and early light-prog aesthetics, O.W.L deliver an ambitious song cycle which at its best transforms into dazzling psychedelia."

Passione Nera - Research CDEP (Cold Meat Industry) [09758] $15.50
The "Research EP" marks the first offering from the ever-growing Roman outfit Passione Nera.

Originally conceived by Andy in the dying days of 2005, it would not be until the spring of the following year that the band took its first steps, and embarked on a journey that would eventually see the project evolve into a 4-piece band (by early 2007). Initially, the songs were stripped-down acoustic guitar compositions with the occasional addition of piano, accordion or organ. However, as the band grew and expanded, the songs were redefined and their sound changed.

Today, Passione Nera has evolved from a folk-pop creature into a fully-fledged chamber-pop ensemble. The band keeps one watery alcoholic eye fixed on the cinematic tradition, with melodic landscapes that are dusty and melancholy. These melodious scenes are then wrapped up in lush, orchestrated songs with acoustic and electric guitars taking the center stage, and additionally enhanced by a large array of other instruments. It is as if these songs were written on the backs of 1960s postcards brought back from some imaginary journey into "Americana", then bred with French-pop, cross-fertilized with baroque-pop, and finally molded into a soundtrack for the broken-hearted, the disenchanted and the misunderstood.

The "Research EP" features appearances by Simone "Hellvis" Salvatori (guest vocals on "Sinking"), and Piergiorgio "PJ" Ambrosi (additional arrangements and co-production) of older brothers Spiritual Front, and will be released as digipak CD-single and limited 7" vinyl.

Sailboats Are White - Turbo CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID040] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
As completely incidental as it may seem, the acronym for Sailboats Are White is in fact SAW. Coincidence? Perhaps, but it's also a pretty accurate musical description. You see, saws are used to cut through things like bone, metal and possibly wood, likewise though, Sailboats' music is just as fierce, cutting and destructive to the senses as say, a lumberjack's saw would be to a maple tree. Straight outta Hamilton, SAW play a vicious mix of anger, insanity and speed that really is something to behold ~V and they do it all without the comfort of a live drummer. "I'll admit that I did get a little bit of a fright when I first listened to this album-- I almost filled my pants!" Tearaway ~V 2/5 "it's too sloppy, too crappy... it's cool though - listen a couple of times I reckon you'll like it" Eavesdrop "This is some grinding aural insanity. The overwhelming chaos of drum loops, angry guitar distorted to the hilt and vocals make for a strange and menacing beast. What we have here is Indie punk that lacks coherence (as good punk should?) but makes up for it with a raw, unbridled 'sod off or I'll glass ya' tone and style. Crazed, amphetamine fuelled riffs and larynx-shredding vocals rise up out of the storm of distortion and hard, fast drum beats. Bloody marvellous! I wouldn't suggest first thing in the morning, or it might make you cry" Scene "Turbo is a hectic & above all unique album quite unlike anything you'll have heard this year (if at all)" Time Off "They've got a stupid name, sound like shit and do it loud as f***. It's pretty good" Beat

Slepcy - We Are The Newest Battle Models CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock010] $11.75
Slepcy are Piotr Kurek and Marcin Stefanski from Poland. They started making music with just a Casio Rapman and a gemini mixer with 30 sec sample memory. Their music blends opera with breakcore, synth-pop, jazz, hardcore-noise and who knows what. They did some f***ing brilliant records for Koop.POP, Ambush Records and Suburban Trash Industries which you should spend your last days trying to find. We guarantee you that their debut CRD release, "We are the newest battle models" will leave you all speechless. It's a truly unique record that matches brutality with melodies that stick in your head, but in a really cool way.

Soda Fountain Rag - It's Rag Time! CD (Yesboyicecream) [YBI09CD] $15.00
Soda Fountain Rag is the musical universe of Ragnhild Hogstad Jordahl, a one-woman indiepop phenomenon from Bergen, Norway. Having released a number of sold-out limited edition cdr EPs for DIY labels such as Cloudberry and Anorak in 2007, "It's Rag Time!" is her debut CD release, containing 14 moreish subversive pop classics about bitterness (Go!), reorientation (I was Reborn) and the importance of not killing clowns (Don't Kill The Clowns), all delivered with unfathomable sincerity. Imagine, if you can, an anti-folk Nico playing all the instruments in a nintendo pop garage band. The cd comes in an attractive high-gloss cardboard gatefold wallet, with lyrics booklet and beautiful illustrations by Peter Danielsson. REVIEWS: "All you really need to know is that she makes the most wonderful indie pop tunes". IndieMP3 "The most thrilling pop you could find!" Pop 'n' Cherries.

Souls On Board - Blood Face CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID049] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 08-18-2008
Bastards! Like some unholy breeding ground, SOULS ON BOARD are loyal to an ever-evolving matrimony - beauty and dirt, ugliness and invention, dumb and smart, mind-blowing power and grace. BLOOD FACE is the new EP, the Melbourne group's second release after their "hurtling and assured" self-titled EP debut of 2005. Released by wunderkinds Low Transit Industries, the EP saw the band draw comparisons to The Pixies & Sonic Youth, tour the country with Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males and End of Fashion, play alongside Maximo Park (UK), Faker & Deloris as well as land spots on the Big Day Out and St. Kilda Festivals! BLOOD FACE picks up the hazardous extremes of that first rugged EP and beats them into a new shape. A shape with pointed edges, electricity in the veins and a wall of psychedelic sound bubbling under a whip-smart guitar bleed section. While the tunes bulge with shining phrases & stirring twists, lyrically BLOOD FACE grapples with dark visions and uncomfortable realities - these ills given some respite by the pop playfulness of the 6 tracker. Recorded by Finn Keane (theredsunband, SubAudible Hum) in the heart of Melbourne city, and mixed by Aaron Cupples (Dan Kelly & the Alpha Males, The Drones) between cows and night monsters in the hills of Gippsland, BLOOD FACE captures the peaks and explorations of the bands live set over the last 2 years. A visceral & powerful project on stage, SOULS ON BOARD have captured an experience equal to the sparks of its creation. Punchy, raw, exploding with life and colour . . . introducing BLOOD FACE. R E V I E W S : "Blood Face is an ambitious release delivered with confidence and gusto and will no doubt leave punters cheering for more" Rave "Helmed by a vivid, coolly electric guitar tone ~V the voltage feels integral, for reasons not yet tangible ~V the second EP from Melbourne's Souls On Board confirms that their melange of atmospheric soundscapes, plangent stadium rock and jazzy, experimental pop lacks for neither vision nor a sense of reality-- they feel on the verge of discovering something essential within their music. They're already closer than too many of their contemporaries will ever get" Mess+Noise "In conclusion, Souls On Board as a group perpetuate many questions. With their eclectic mix of pop and heavy guitar riffs, Blood Face cements their own creative space in music as their songs take your hand and lead you in one direction before suddenly halting and taking you on an alternate route, repeat and serve hot" The Dwarf "I don't think I've heard such a ragtag, mixed-back offering of songs sound as cohesive as this in a while. Mainly because, as far as I can tell, SOB's versatility doesn't compromise their musicianship, and they know how to write a solid number with a pulse and a point" Beat / Xpress

Specimens, The - Jazz Brutus CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID050] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 10-06-2008
The most useful aspect of Terry Opie's Catholic Education was the time his teacher brought a Black Sabbath record to class to prove it wasn't satanic. Hmmm, he thought, I'm not so sure. He showed it to three other specimens, who took it all in and eventually they formed a mind-blowing band, specialising in nefariously loud sound. Their debut was good, but it was with their second album (2004's The Quick and The Deaf), that critics shat themselves. "Straining amps to near combustion!" spat Kerrang. "Feels that it could jump out of your speakers and whack you one!" shrieked Faster Louder. Third album Jazz Brutus flexes even more sonic muscle. Saintly pure punk, blazing riff rock with weird, ancient riffs exploding like Blue Oyster Cult and a title track that is ferociously original psychedelia. 'I'm a Believer' sounds like Sebadoh after years performing at knifepoint, emerging from some generic suburban outpost like a Phoenix. Some tips: Do not listen to this album while operating heavy machinery. Do not attempt to control a wrecking ball, do not get behind a speedboat or handle electric kitchen utensils. 'Jazz Brutus' is what results when a whole lot of speed and mayhem impact upon Melbourne like a meteorite. "The Specimen's have written one of the more destructive and unique garage records in the last five years, one that takes the aggression of Detroit garage with the melody of Birdman. 'Shroom of Turn' opens the L.P. and sounds like 'My Pal' meets Rocket from the Tombs 'Sonic Reducer'. Regardless of influence, this song opens the L.P. in a manner which reaffirms the fact The Specimen's, whilst one of the more traditional garage rock bands in Aus, have studied the greats well and have subsequently released an album that delivers on the promise of their live shows" Scene "The Specimens are the business. Jazz Brutus ought to feature in your collection o' records under 'F', for 'Friday night' and 'f***ing loud'" The Dwarf "The Specimens spit in the face of artistry, preferring body-blow punk rock of an old Australian tradition ~V Radio Birdman, Lime Spiders and Onya's" Rolling Stone "a guaranteed heart starter" Tracks "Cooler then finding a pair of original seventies Lee flairs and hotter than a Marshall under stage lights" The Brag

Steve Bug - Bugnology 3 CD (Poker Flat) [PFR022CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-30-2008
Following on from the pioneering and heralded Bugnology mix in 2004, and the equally outstanding Bugnology 2 in 2006, Steve Bug, Poker Flat label head and one of the world's leading house and techno producers and DJs presents number three. The mix presents a detailed, mesmerizing journey through Bug's current musical addiction, and also takes a snapshot of a very exciting time in dance music, where genres and barriers are continually being broken, in the name of exciting, forward-thinking and free-flowing house music! Like its earlier volumes, Bugnology 3 is a genuine masterpiece in next generation DJ mixes. Not only did Steve carefully select each track featured here (no doubt club-tested and dancefloor approved) but there was a unique process of editing, looping, stretching and shortening involved, to ensure the whole mix flows like no other.

Stunt Rock - This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3 CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock007] $11.75
Sale price! If you dig deep enough in some underground videotape trading circles you can find a tape from back in 1999 of William Flegal aka Stunt Rock performing in a band called "Meat." He can be seen slashing himself with razorblades, urinating in cups and drinking them, smashing computer monitors on his head, all while a band plays mediocre Black Sabbath covers and Dan Doormouse shoves meat up his ass. Perhaps the tape was just a product of Midwest boredom and youthful ambition, but whatever the case, let us introduce you to the confusing and zany world of Stunt Rock, the most legendary, reclusive, and talked about artist to rise from the ashes of the Midwest-USA Breakcore scene. Stunt Rock built his career on countless spray-painted CDR's given away at shows in a drunken stupor. A total disregard for sequencing and obsession with samples gave way to a reputation as the new "punk rock" of the electronic scene in the Midwest. Addressing the emptiness of existence, while at the same time mocking it, "This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3" is the most genuine assertion of the modern lifestyle ever committed to disc. Built on loop after loop of drum, guitar and movie dialogue, the album becomes a sort of looser's Music Concrete. But is it actually funny? F*** yeah! Rolling Stone says: "This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3' is like a new sort of rock n roll comedy meltdown; irreverent, blue collar, foul mouthed, and beer fueled. "This is Stunt Rock Vol. 3" will be an instant classic!"

Subaudible Hum - All for the Caspian CDEP (Low Transit Industries) [LTID043] $8.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
Deluxe single feating radio faves "Sugarcoat" & "All For The Caspian". Features a live track & remixes from New Yorks Secret Frequency Crew & Gordon McQ from The Avalanches. In late 2005 SubAudible Hum released their debut full-length album entitled "Everything You Heard Is True". It was a dark, venomous abrasion on the guitar format that also managed to make time for sprawling sonic scenery and downbeat, melancholic intricacy. The record gained SubAudible Hum immediate national radio rotation including a spot on Triple J's Next Crop campaign. SubAudible Hum write from that mysterious void between emotive art and didactic thesis. The subject matter is always of paramount importance but never at the expense of listening pleasure, in fact SubAudible Hum may just have found the harmonious middle ground between the two. Any modern day themes of global politics, dirty economics, fundamental agendas, and social degradation are always communicated with music, never using it as a soapbox. Stepping into 2006 SubAudible Hum have a whole new take. Having purged much of their structural and self-imposed stylistic constraints the SubAudible Hum sound is now less definable than ever. Their sophomore effort "In Time For Spring, On Came The Snow" swings from drawn-out orchestral opuses to quasi-UK indie trash to dam bursting, almost trip hop anthems. With this release, as always, SubAudible Hum are exploring every crevasse of their musical ambitions.

Subaudible Hum - In Time for Spring, On Came the Snow CD (Low Transit Industries) [LTID044] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
Critically acclaimed sophomore album from Melbourne experimental pop outfit. Features hit singles "Sugarcoat", "All For The Caspian" & "Aaron's Western Assault". Terminal 11 - Illegal Nervous Habits CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock002] $11.75
Sale price! Remember when IDM music was interesting? Yes, it's been a long time, and computers have "given us" many cheap, lifeless albums since then. But wait! Here's Mike Castaneda, AKA Terminal 11, fresh from Phoenix Arizona, to prove to the world that it is possible to tame your computer and force it to work for the powers of goodness. Illegal Nervous Habits is easily the greatest album ever made! It's an emotional rollercoaster of a record, with thrills and chills, heartbreaking sacrifice and enough guts and grit to make even your grandmother pay attention. But what does it sound like? Well Johnny, imagine a million bits of information flying through the air, and watch these bits weave and dive like a ballet on PCP. Then, as you're just getting bored, these bits make pictures of your friends laughing and having the best fun they ever had. Yeah, that's trippy isn't it? Well this album is just like that, and MORE.

Tex La Homa - Little Flashes Of Sunlight On A Cold Dark Sea CD (Acuarela) [nois1087] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-08-2008
New release date. Departing from the more electronic oriented sounds on previous albums by Tex la Homa, Little Flashes Of Sunlight On A Cold Dark Sea is a collection of eleven acoustic songs featuring Matt Shaw on every instrument, mainly guitar and piano. After releasing six exclusive tracks (which were a prelude to the sound of this last record) entitled Into Timeless Shadows a couple of years ago, Acuarela is proud to present the fourth album by Tex la Homa, an approach towards a more intimate and personal side of his music. Ever since the beginning of Tex la Homa Matt Shaw has played very quiet acoustic concerts, a side of his music he really wanted to explore more on his recordings. A wooden guitar, some keyboards and pianos and his voice. All against a microphone and a computer, within the emptiness of his room in Poole, Southern England. The aim Shaw tried to achieve while writing the songs of Little Flashes Of Sunlight On A Cold Dark Sea was to have mostly acoustic sounds and try to write very simple but melodic songs. To reduce everything down to what it is actually needed to communicate an idea or a story, and to try to keep things clear. Old friends' names and past events served as inspirational memories. So there are songs about people Matt was around when he was writing the songs ("Dream Sliding") and people from his past ("The Ginnel") but sometimes written about as if it were all still happening now ("The Unanswered Question"). Matt reaches the idea that within our memories these past events can be as real as what is happening in our present lives. The eternal now, with things happening on several planes of existance, that we may or may not really understand. But this music is also deeply influenced by places like Sandbach in Chesire, where Matt grew up, Barnoldswick and surrounding Lancashire and Yorkshire, where he spent a lot of his childhood, Poole in Dorset where he currently lives and snapshots of various places he has travelled over the years. Also by the sea which he lives close to. As an extension of what was started with Into Timeless Shadows, the EP Matt recorded for Acuarela two years ago, this new record sees no use of electronic programming or heavy atmospheres and textures featured on Some Lost Bliss (& Records, 06 / All Is Number, 07). If that record was Tex la Homa's best electronic effort, taking even further the mixture of dream pop, folk and ambient of If Just Today Were To Be My Entire Life (Talitres, 03) and Dazzle Me With Transience (Superglider, 02), his two other albums, Little Flashes Of Sunlight On A Cold Dark Sea opens a new direction for Tex la Homa. One based on personal experience as an engine for creating music with an undeniable healing power.

Vestigial - Translucent Communion CD (Cold Meat Industry) [09759] $15.50
Having developed a strong cult following with their limited CD-R, a split LP, and compilation works, Vestigial (Italy) come forth with their debut CD poised to establish themselves among the dark ambient elite. The Translucent Communion - a reflection of the hollow and imaginary archetype of our civilization , a blackened view on the humanity falling into a perfect nothingness of technocratic illusions, a refined and well designed disharmony for our next generation. 6 tracks that arise from the shadows, then spread and sweep across a barren, wind swept landscape, creating a sound so thick and texturally deep it swallows the earth like a venomous fog. Comparisons to Raison D'Être, Lustmord and Bad Sector are reference points, but only hint at the massive potential of Vestigial.

Presented in a lavishly designed 6-panel, partially varnished digipak

Vorpal - An Incomplete guide to VORPAL Music CD (Cock Rock Disco) [Crock004] $11.75
price! You will ask yourself: "What the f*** is this?" Yep, it's the debut release from VORPAL. A sort of rickety old wooden roller coaster careening on a broken track of amazing fast breakbeat processing, insane noises, and held together with a sort of antique haze. It's an explosive collection of tracks both new and ancient, creating some vague form of nostalgic breakbeat neurosis. But it slams too. But fuck all that, just give it a listen and hear for yourself.

Brighter Death Now - Necrose Evanglicum 2CD (Cold Meat Industry) [00081] $15.50
Recorded during 1995 - that most creative of years for Brighter Death Now, which also produced the much harsher album Innerwar, as well as the final part of the epic "Great Death" trilogy - Necrose Evangelicum was immediately received as a new milestone in the genre of "sacred-death-industrial." In fact, the album had the most favorable reception of any BDN record, and has generally been considered the most easily accessible of BDN's work.

This groundbreaking album is nothing short of a sacred death-machine that relentlessly works itself into the mind with a most obtrusive, and almost dangerous, insistence. This review from 1996 says it all:

"This is music created from a place beyond all imaginable Hells... a place that exists only deep within the macabre mind of its creator, Roger Karmanik. A CD of such impenetrable darkness, as if the entire world had collapsed into itself! Where the inspiration has been drawn from for these recordings can only be speculated, but suffice it to say, it's not a place one would like to spend eternity! Tormented voices announce the birth of some unspeakable horror, while heavily metallic, grinding electronics shudder like the last gasps of a dying machine. Together, they form a vision so bleak and ghastly it purges both the mind and soul of everything but the most impure of thoughts. Leave all notions of decency at the entranceway, for they are not wanted nor needed here. Only in the final title track, featuring the despondent orchestrations of Mortiis, will you find solace, but even that is a harbour deemed unsafe."

And yet, as a Brighter Death Now record, we still insist that it is "easy listening"...

In order to once more make this groundbreaking album available, we have gone back and digitally restored, remastered and remixed the tracks to give them the facelift they so richly deserve. This new edition of Necrose Evangelicum is presented in a beautiful foilprinted digipak together with a "live" CD recorded during the same era. Actually the "live" CD is the recording of a rehearsal for a concert in Vaasa, Finland, which ended up never taking place! The permission of the organizers ran out, and the evening came to an end, before BDN had an opportunity to take the stage.

Darkishly served in a gold-foilprinted digipak!

Elodie Lauten - The Death of Don Juan: An Opera In Two Acts CD (Unseen Worlds) [UW004CD] $13.50
"CD debut of this 1985 post-minimal landmark by Elodie Lauten. Lauten has been active in the downtown New York classical and punk scenes since moving from France in the 1970s. The Death of Don Juan is a breakthrough for its lyrical minimalism in combination with drama that actively engages a contemporary emotional experience. Originally self-produced and released as a small LP edition on her own label, it has been touted ever since by Kyle Gann, who adds notes to this edition, and was recently included on one of Alan Licht's Minimal Top Ten lists. Features performances by Arthur Russell and Peter Zummo."

Experimental Audio Research - Beyond The Pale CD (Space Age) [ORBIT031CD] $15.25
"Originally recorded way back in 1992, Beyond The Pale was E.A.R.'s first album

Gary Usher - Barefoot Adventure: The 4 Star Sessions 2CD (Sundazed) [SC11167CD] $25.25
RELEASE DATE: 08-19-2008
"Barefoot Adventure does more than simply collect a bunch of songs that sound great on the car radio and mean exactly what they say (take that, psychedelic music!). It's also a remarkable glimpse of the process, of a struggling songwriter angling for a break, sometimes tap dancing in tangents, oblivious to the bullseye he was hitting on the way to forging an important new sound."

Heidelinde Weis - Der Supermann: Song Collection 1975-1979 CD (Bureau B) [BB018CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-30-2008
The Bureau B label presents a compiled history of the collaboration between Austrian theater and TV actress, Heidelinde Weis and composer/keyboardist, Kristian Schultze. Who would have thought somebody like Heidelinde Weis had done fluffy bossa nova and gallant funk? A few DJs have known it for a few years, mainly because the tracks "Der Supermann" and "Hans Emmerich" belong to their repertoire. Now, everyone has access with this release that combines the best songs from the three albums that emerged from this unique musical love affair, originally released in 1975, 1976 and 1979. The music world was quite amazed when the debut album first appeared: extremely laid back, jazzy bossa nova taking turns with slick `70s funk, and above it sizzling, lascivious vocals with often blatantly erotic lyrics.

Rodriguez - Cold Fact CD (Light In The Attic) [LITA036CD] $15.25
"It's one of the lost classics of the `60s, a psychedelic masterpiece drenched in colour and inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion, and, of course, `jumpers, coke, sweet mary jane.' The album is Cold Fact, and what's more intriguing is that its maker - a shadowy figure known as Rodriguez - was, for many years, lost too.

Various Artists - Breaking Point: 20 Hard-edged Beat Diamonds CD (Psychic Circle) [PC7023] $17.50

Bill Quick - Maravillosa Gente LP (Time-Lag) [TIME-LAG038] $26.75
Long in the works reissue of this amazing and little know gem, from 1972. Born in Miami, Florida to an American father and Venezuelan mother, BILL QUICK split the USA to Madrid, Spain in the early '70s. Once there he quickly landed a recording deal with famous producer ALAIN MILHAUD of the Explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole LP release. Sessions went down with an impressive cast of up to eleven players in the studio. A finely balanced mix of sounds that drifts between throbbing electric full band groove and gentle acid folk. When Bill wants to rock, things get downright funky, with a wickedly hard-hitting rhythm section, pumping organ, scorching electric leads, and flipped out acoustic guitars all locking into some seriously tight jams. Then the next minute the mood swings and you're deep into some beautifully fragile and introspective folk meditations; often just two acoustic guitars, Bill's lyrics, and huge, angelic, vocal harmonies all weaving together into lush tapestries of sound. The album was released only in Spain and Brazil, to very little interest, and quickly became yet another great album lost to obscurity. At least until now. Packaged in a heavyweight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the totally different Brazilian version of the album art. Plus extensive notes by album musicians SALVADOR DOMINGUEZ & MARK GOTTSCHALL, and ALEX CARRETERO. Pressed on 180gm audiophile grade vinyl and limited to 1,000 copies.

Catz 'n' Dogz - Stars of Zoo 2xLP (Mothership) [MSHIP001LP] $19.00

Chopstick & Johnjon - Birds (Afrilounge Rmx) 12 inch (Dirt Crew) [DIRT027EP] $11.50
Two new hot producers to their label, known for their own imprints Criminal and Baalsaal and collaborations as Eyerer & Chopstick. "Birds" is an absolute smash tech-house bomb that proves its power in the club. The Afrilounge guys deliver two great remixes (one funk, one dub) that take the track towards a more stripped-down, percussive direction.

Chymera - Caprica Burning 12 inch (Connaisseur Superieur) [CNSS013EP] $12.00

Cousins of Reggae - Quartz LP (Spanish Magic) [SM013] $25.00
BLAKE HARGRAVES & LIAM THURSTON's dirty rock overdrives everything from under a sickening haze-guitar, drums, turntable, homemade feedback devices and homemade drum triggering systems. Volcanic Tongue admire "this Canada-based riot squad" for their "riffs that sound like 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' tied to streamrollers and dragged on their face through industrial warehouse [combined] with the deforming use of clotted effects [and] endless vistas of crunch." All covers are handmade (screen-prints, stencils, hand carved stamps). Australian import.

Daedelus - Make It So Feat. Michael Johnson 12 inch (Ninja Tune) [ZEN12216] $8.75
DAEDELUS links up with MICHAEL JOHNSON for the kind of happy song / sad vocals mash-down which ALFRED DARLINGTON learnt from listening to too much Brazilian music. This, however, is not bossa. Drawing on bits of Italian disco, twisted trance, French house and more than a smattering of early '80s English new romanticism it's the kind of glorious, uplifting, sad number for which sweet indiscretions were invented. The epic nature of this song is sure to make this a Daedelus anthem.

Dark Meat/Diplo - Split 7 inch (Chunklet) [WHIRLYCHUNK003] $6.25
A limited edition 7-inch pressed specially by Chunklet as a merch item for a show. DARK MEAT unleashes their version of Iggy Pop's "Success," followed by DIPLO, who rocks his "Unsuccessful Space Dub." Yellow vinyl pressing with sweet artwork on the sleeve.

Efdemin - Bruxelles 12 inch (Dial) [DIAL024EP] $9.75
"After some live concerts and DJ gigs alongside the Vienna and Swiss minimal scene and a remix for labelmate Pantha du Prince, efdemin is back with a new masterpiece. Since he is studying computer music, efdemin aka Phillip Sollmann got deeper into minimal music, from John Cage to La Monte Young. Also filled with inspiration of the post-Hawtin school, his definition of techno speaks a unique language. If you watch his own history you can see a proper change from Detroitish deep house to that special minimal sound, but you will feel the intense way efdemin falls in love with the inner sound."

Headhunter - Initiate 2x12 inch (Tempa) [TEMPA031EP] $17.25
Originally released in 2007. Headhunter presents an exciting and futuristic second release on Tempa. "Locus Lotus" is an up-tempo, summery track with a bouncy soca-style. "Drop The Waste" features a heavy half-time rhythm. N-Type has been caning "Sushi Brain," with its distinctive, submerged techno intro leading into a sick drop. While "Quanta" jacks it all up, the ghost of rave hovers in the cut-up, high-pitched vocals of "Spyro." Radio & DJ support from Hatcha, Rob Da Bank, Youngsta and Tes La Rock.

Health - Triceratops / Lost Time + Remixes LP (Tough Love) [TLV020] $12.75
Following the unanimously excellent praise foisted upon their self-titled debut album released late 2007, LA-based noiseniks HEALTH return with the release of a limited edition MLP through Tough Love Records. Book-ended by the original versions of album tracks "Triceratops" and "Lost Time," the record also collects together a number of remixes that firmly establish the dancefloor potential of Health. Sharing a lineage with the percussive impulses of Drums Not Dead-era Liars and the almost ambient freakouts of early Black Dice, Health display a willingness to stretch out their sound and discover new sonic palettes rich in texture and rhythm. The remixes here play testament to this experimental tendency, serving to re-contextualize the band's approach while bringing them to a new audience. With only 500 copies pressed and the band's star firmly in the ascendancy, it's sure to establish itself as a collector's item. UK import.

Hi-God People / Zond - Split LP (Spanish Magic) [SM011] $25.00
The HI-GOD PEOPLE side was recorded around the same time as their recent split 12-inch with fellow NZers The Dead C; it has live snippets from their show at The Palace supporting Sonic Youth and recordings from a radio 3CR session. Their live shows vary from cosmic rock jams to evolution performance art epics. Pop stars doing the tango with some psychedelic monk. Named after a satellite of the USSR, Melbourne Australia's ZOND broadcast dark ecstasy from a place far below outer space, like a Rorschach blot or a Freudian analysis gone wrong. Their live shows vary from a screaming psychedelic car crash to ambient metal. With current and past members of ON, FONG, LIBRARY PUNKS, MUM SMOKES, NED & THE MEDS, and THE STABS. All covers are handmade (screen prints, stencils, hand carved stamps). Australian import.

RELEASE DATE: 10-28-2008
This is the debut full-length release by Swedish/German duo, It's A Musical. Happy things, bad things, like The Carpenters or Jens Lekman - rough and subtle, virtuoso and amateurish, mischievous and angelic. Sincere, upbeat pop about having no money and having trouble making art.

Lee Ranaldo - Countless Centuries Fled Into The Distance LP (Table of the Elements) [TOELP97] $16.25
SONIC YOUTH'S LEE RANALDO was part of the original Table of the Elements Guitar Series in 1993; now he returns with Countless Centuries Fled into the Distance Like So Many Storms. It's an epic earful, replete with shimmering textures and an inimitable charging clangor. With ecstatic, rocking squalor, he summons some dazzling shronk, reminiscent of early SY, the soaring drone of John Cale, and even the looping orientalia of Dream Syndicate-era La Monte Young. So duck and cover, as Lee fires an impeccably aimed fusillade across the screaming fields of sonic love.

Los Hermanos - Traditions & Concepts 12 inch (Submerge) [SUBWAX003EP] $8.75

Los Peyotes - Introducing Los Peyotes LP (Dirty Water) [DWC1021LP] $17.25
"Offspring of the seed of the marauding Spanish conquistadores that brought medievel venereal diseases to the Americas, Los Peyotes are a savage sort that would make any Nazi war criminal or strongman dictator that ever lived on their native soil raise their eyebrows in disbelief while running away crying for their mama. Equal parts of Garage Punk, Tex-Mex and Surf, "Introducing Los Peyotes" is their UK album release and stands up to anything released by Los Saicos, Los Shakers or any other of the legendary sixties South American Garage Punks that inspired them. Elhumotassemal!!! Surf-guitar, Tex Mex, psychedelic garage-punk and rhythm'n'blues, that seems to have crossed time and space from the Buenos Aires of 1965. Track listing: El Corredor Quemado, Action, El Humo te Hace Mal, Vampiro, Scream, La Malvada Creacion del Dr Illusion, El Entierro de los Gatos, Psicosis, Back Come to Me, I Don't Mind, Serial Killer, Connection, No Puedo Hacerte Mia.

Maetrik - Space Chronic 12 inch (Mothership) [MSHIP008EP] $11.50
Maetrik's Space Chronic EP combines the innovation of techno with a sense of fun. "Sex With Bass" explores the type of low frequencies that usually occur when suspension bridges tear apart. "Stab Jockey" throws a techno curveball, utilizing rhythmic synths over a simple beat. Midway through, the line clears out for full-frequency busting bass drops. "Crawl Machine" immediately builds a head-nodding groove that wastes no time firing off its boosters. Sneaky builds shoot you off into orbit.

Marco Carola - Get Set 12 inch (2M) [2M002EP] $10.75

Figures Of Light - Smash Hits [CED336CD:f] Norton Records $12.75 "Includes the ultra rare 1972 single, the proto-punk anthem `It's Lame.' Nine studio and live cuts with the A-Bones! Mind boggling finale of FOL's first show (1970) with TV sets destroyed on stage! Essential!"

Mike Shannon - Memory Tree 2xLP (Plus 8) [PLUS8102LP] $19.00

Minilogue - Jamaica/Hispaniola Remixes 12 inch (Cocoon) [COR051EP] $12.25
No description available at this time.

MLZ - NewAnalogueCentury 12 inch (Modern Love) [LOVE049EP] $12.25
Devastating new heavyweight 2-tracker from DJ Miles, precision cut for maximum bass-weight by Berlin's Dubplates and Mastering. "NewAnalogueCentury" rides on frayed dub chords and a padded kickdrum, eventually tumbling into a mass of delayed stabs and skittering hi-hats coming across like the bastard child of Vainqueur, Maurizio and T++ : messed up and unbelievably HEAVY. "OneState" channels one colossal, beautifully padded kickdrum into an arrangement of bass, drums and endless space. Absolutely deadly, sick wares.

O.W.L. - Of Wondrous Legends LP (Locust) [LOCUST110LP] $18.00
"Proof that there's still excellent albums out there to discover. Drawing mainly on art rock and early light-prog aesthetics, O.W.L deliver an ambitious song cycle which at its best transforms into dazzling psychedelia." Limited edition, 180 gram vinyl LP version

October - Say Again 12 inch (Perspectiv Records) [PSPV014EP] $12.25
This is October's first release for Perspectiv. With three singles on his own label Caravan, October's organic techno cuts and thuds add physicality to his productions. "Say Again" features a female vocal loop, throbbing with pulsed melodic tone, punching live percussion and a deep bass line. "Go Outside" is a darker, deeper and more ethereal work - stuttering beats are glued together by a warm synth melody. Resonant percussion and phased keys submerge the track into a claustrophobic climax.

Sea Donkeys - Live At The S.s. Marie Antoinette LP (Assophon) [A001] $14.75
A limited edition (400 copies) live LP from this new label and group out of Seattle and featuring one of the brains behind the Sublime Frequencies imprint. These guys previously had an LP available via the Sun City Girls' Abduction label but this is their best yet, a divinely ragged live blast that combines a more garage rocking taking on the communal folk breakdowns of The Cherry Blossoms with killer Shaggs/Godz style drum violence, drunk choir vocals and the kinda fidelity that makes it all sound like a great VU Bootleg. There are inspired covers of material like "It's A Rainy Day" by Faust and Albert Ayler's "Ghosts" (which wins out over countless lame indie free jazz versions by re-staging it as a melancholy avant rock dirge as played by Don Van Vliet and the Maher Shalal Has Baz orchestra) and the more rocking sections are a near perfect amalgam of primitive avant brut, stumble punk oblivion and beautiful melodic chord solos. Recommended.

Smear - Transect 12 inch (Forward Strategy Group) [FSG001EP] $11.00
No description available at this time.

Suffering Bastard/Cock ESP - Suffering 10 inch (Apop) [09745] $11.50
Brutal grind featuring a dual-bass assault of the highest gain and lowest frequency, complete with brain-rattling vocal violence and remorseless drum kit abuse. vs. An ugly & unlistenable shrieking noise overload inspired by 1980's top 40 hits & the pure unadulterated HATRED of mankind.

Treetops - Permission / When I Was Younger LP (Arbor) [ARBOR100] $11.00
Spirited youth and the intense magnification of focused energies chart the recent zones for TREETOPS. Utilizing tapes, Casio keyboards, vocals and a variety of other sources, the path to earth bound nature drone is firmly rooted in electricity. Like the combination of the glacial drifts of massive rocks and the movements of air, the sources meld into blissed out meditative drones: ceremonial music rising into the future to get out of the past. Infinite ancients; constantly progressing, constantly evolving. Mastered by PETE SWANSON (D. YELLOW SWANS); in an edition of 300 copies in pro-printed foldover sleeves featuring photography by KYLE PARKER (INFINITE BODY). The B-Side features a remastered and extended version of the When I Was Younger double-C10 (ARBOR 69) from last winter.

Finally after months of pressing delays...Twodeadsluts Onegoodf*** release their LP on Apop Records. Originally released as a limited edition CDR late last year. This is a severe examination of abhorrent eroticism and unsurpassed hopelessness. Morose synthesizer dirges that quickly disintegrate into screaming bloody feedback hailstorms. Mastered for optimum frequency carnage by James Plotkin. Limited to 300 Copies.

RELEASE DATE: 08-05-2008
***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! WOLVES IN THE THRONEROOM's music is rooted in the traditions of Black Metal, but they subvert the common aesthetic and ideology in order to remain true to their own personal manifestations. Their strong convictions appropriately compliment the confident decisive execution of their sound. This is the sound of paradox, ambiguity and confusion, Catharsis is the objective, not a lilly-white and guilt free existence. Death and rebirth, transformation and enlightenment. They believe that in Black Metal, there is great truth, transcendence and power. Two Hunters was recorded on tape, at London Bridge and Aleph Studio by RANDALL DUNN (Earth, Sunn 0))), Boris, Kinski) in the Pacific Northwest. JESSICA KINNEY provides beautifully dark vocals on "Cleansing" and "I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots."

Rodriguez - Cold Fact LP (Light In The Attic) [LITA036LP] $30.75
"It's one of the lost classics of the `60s, a psychedelic masterpiece drenched in colour and inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion, and, of course, `jumpers, coke, sweet mary jane.'
