Her voice can be heard on soundtracks for films by Robert Rodriguez and Trevor Romain, and she is the youngest female singer to perform before thousands at the Austin Music Awards. Atavist/Nadja - II: Points At Infinity CD (Profound Lore) [PFL037] $12.00
Points at Infinity is the second collaboration between the UK's most infamous doom/sludge metal band, ATAVIST, and the most prolific and respected act in experimental/drone/doom/ambient music today, NADJA. The first collaboration, titled 12012291920/1414101 and released last year through Invada Records (owned by Portishead main songwriter Geoff Barrow), was merely an experiment-one that was actually initiated by Profound Lore Records. This second collaboration presents a sound picture with significantly more substance and depth; while still experimental in nature, Points at Infinity exemplifies growth and expansion by both of these enigmatic bands. No exports to Canada or the UK

Brad Barr - The Fall Apartment: Instrumental Guitar CD (Tompkins Square) [TSQ2011CD] $12.00
"This is guitarist Brad Barr's solo debut, The Fall Apartment: Instrumental Guitar. "

Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit - Secret Rhythms 3 CD (Nonplace) [NON025CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-30-2008
This is the third release in Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit's collaborative Secret Rhythms series, following Secret Rhythms 2, released by Nonplace in 2006.= Recorded in stages in the studio or rehearsal space over the course of months, the material finally emerges in the concentrated form of a 510-minute song, although terms like beginning or end have nothing to do with music of this kind. Other musicians include Hayden Chisholm, Tim Motzer, and Joseph Suchy.

Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst CD (Merge) [MRG340] $13.75
RELEASE DATE: 08-05-2008
***This recording was made in Tepoztlán, Morelos, México during the months of January and February 2008. In Tepoztlán, a place known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings, a temporary studio was created in a mountain villa called Valle Místico at the outskirts of town. It was produced by CONOR OBERST with much help from engineer and long time associate, ANDY LEMASTER. A special band was assembled for the recording, known amongst themselves and to friends as THE MYSTIC VALLEY BAND. It was there at Valle Místico that Conor and the band lived and worked for that time in near perfect harmony, often unaware of the hour or the day. The result is his first solo album in thirteen years, following Water (1993), Here's To Special Treatment (1994) and Soundtrack To My Movie (1995). In that time he has recorded and performed in many bands and musical projects including COMMANDER VENUS, PARK AVE., DESAPARECIDOS, and most notably BRIGHT EYES, his main musical vehicle for the past decade.

David Vandervelde - Waiting For The Sunrise CD (Secretly Canadian) [SC170] $13.25
Just as there are albums that artists were born to make, there are albums that labels were born to release. Waiting For The Sunrise is one of those albums for both DAVID VANDERVELDE and Secretly Canadian. Upon first laying the needle down, the listener is greeted by a warm wash of sounds that seems to breeze in from decades back. Vandervelde's singular voice emerges from the drums and keys. The tones may be familiar, but his voice as an artist is his own, new and wholly contemporary, and you feel lucky to be here to watch the emergence. The beautiful result of having extended himself both musically and emotionally.

Digital Leather - Sorcerer CD (Goner) [39GONE] $11.00
In 2002 DIGITAL LEATHER were two young men playing keyboards: DL Mastermind SHAWN FOREE and RYAN WONG. Electronic karate chops and drill sergeant drum simulators created fuzzed out synth punk at warehouse punk shows to punk rock kids that hated keyboards and hated Digital Leather. Flash forward several years-and Digital Leather has become a shape shifting force in the new "it" genre of synth punk. With a handful of sold out singles and LPs under his leather jock strap, Shawn Foree is now preparing his magic wand for the masses. He's traded his synthesizer for a guitar, and Ryan Wong for a full band. He's still recording songs himself in a bedroom in Arizona. He brings his band and the a disc of recordings to Memphis for Gonerfest 2, then drops a sonic A-bomb of a set at the Buccaneer Lounge in the middle of the afternoon. Luckily it is all captured on multi-track by a crack guerilla recording team. Home recordings from that time become Side A to Sorcerer; Side B is the live recording. Layered synthetic sounds come together with stark beats and dry vocals to create a lonely mechanical epic that reminds us of man's impending doom. Chillingly delicate and abrasively aggressive, Sorcerer masterfully negotiates the spaces between minimal electronic music and ferocious synth punk.

DJ Kentaro - Enter CD (Ninja Tune) [ZENCD128] $13.25
No description available at this time.

Faint - Fasciinatiion CD (Blank.Wav) [WAV001] $11.50
The FAINT's fourth album, Fasciinatiion draws on many defining facets of The Faint's sound, while remaining completely different from anything else they've put out. A record whose themes include predictions and the future, tabloid culture, the allure of what may never be, childhood lost and more, Fasciinatiion sounds as if it's been beamed in from a satellite whose sole purpose is observing, and making sense of, the details of every day existence. In certain ways, the album is the most mechanical and precise of the band's work: The vocals sound less human than ever before; the bass lines are more mangled, keyboards spiral and squeal out of control; electronic pings and stabs invade the melodies; the lyrical anxiety and disdain of previous albums pervades on every song.

Henri Pousseur - Electronic Experimental and Microtonal 1953-1999 CD (Sub Rosa) [SR289CD] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-16-2008
This is the fifth Henri Pousseur CD in Sub Rosa's Early Electronics series, exploring the work of this Belgian theoretician and experimental/avant garde composer. Along with previous releases in this series, Electronic Experimental and Microtonal (1953-1999) is comprised of 5 rare pieces that span over 45 years of microtonal and electronic work. Performed by Rohan de Saram (Quatuor Arditti), Evert van Tright (who played mainly Stockhausen), Brigitte Foccroulle, Danielle Dubosch, Isabelle Schmit (three great Belgian pianists) Sumila Goto, Mikoto Jakahata, Shuzan Morita (from the Japanese Yonin No Kai Trio) and for the first and only time, Henri Pousseur himself.

High Places - High Places CD (Thrill Jockey) [THR207CD] $13.75

Hilde Marie Kjersem - A Killer For That Ache CD (Rune Grammofon) [RCD2077CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-16-2008
This is the first solo release for Norway's singer/songwriter Hilde Marie Kjersem. Kjersem was born and brought up in the northwest coastal town of Ålesund, with seven brothers and sisters and a father with a passion for science fiction and Kenny Rogers. Like many of her young contemporaries in Norway, she studied at the Music Conservatory. She has released two albums, Red Shoes Diary (2004) with her now-disbanded TUB Quartet and Twelve O'Clock Tales (2005), a duo album of standards with jazz guitarist Jon Eberson. The last couple of years, she has worked on A Killer For That Ache, the first proper album under her own name. Far from being a jazz album or your typical melancholy Nordic singer-songwriter album, Kjersem names some of her inspirations to be David Lynch, Roger Rabbit, Finn Graff (legendary Norwegian newspaper illustrator), Danny Elfman, Robert Wyatt, Jose Saramago, Kate Bush and Tim Burton.

Hiroshi Nar with Nishinihon - Hiroshi Nar with Nishinihon CD (Lexicon Devil) [LEXDEV013CD] $12.25

Julian Chaptal - Tokens CD (Remote Area) [REMOTE001CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-30-2008
This is the debut full-length release by French producer Julien Chaptal - one of the up-and-coming artists of the new Amsterdam electronic underground. Spearheaded by labels like 100% Pure, Intacto, and Remote Area, and reinforced with releases by Shinedoe, 2000 And One, Kabale Und Liebe, Anton Pieete and Polder, the Amsterdam scene has managed to put itself back on the international map. On Tokens, Chaptal teams up with Daniel "Mumbling" Sanchez and Carlos "Screaming" Valdes. Compared to the other new minimal-, techno- and house-producers in Amsterdam, Chaptal's sound is definitely different. This music breathes his musical roots: the French house that dominated dance music and especially his hometown Paris, in the second half of the `90s.

Of mixed Indian and Jewish descent, he has studied in Paris, Helsinki, Oberlin, and Berkeley, and is currently on the faculty at MIT. Drawing from the diverse worlds of American folk music, the European avant-garde, Indian classical music, minimalism and beyond, he creates a unique sonic world of striking honesty and imagination. Featuring the Kronos Quartet and the Paul Dresher Electro-Acoustic Band, this is a startling debut release from a composer you are sure to be hearing more from in the future."

Featuring some of Greene's long time associates and some young new discoveries, the band is spontaneous, humorous and a perfect match for the Radical Jewish Culture series. A playful blending of jazz and klezmer by this astounding virtuosic quintet!"

Lord Dog Bird - Lord Dog Bird CD (Jagjaguwar) [JAG118] $13.25
THE LORD DOG BIRD is the solo recording project of COLIN McCANN, guitarist for THE WILDERNESS. While the band was on extended hiatus, McCann kept at it, documenting his feelings about life and music at home on his four track. The result is a gritty, tactile document of a time spent in self-exploration and flux.

Los Updates - First If You Please CD (Cadenza) [CADENZA003CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-30-2008
This is the debut full-length release from Los Updates, the new project from Chilean musical mastermind Jorge González together with Loreto Otero. Jorge González (not to be confused with the Swedish crooner Jose González) is one of the country's best-known musical ambassadors. His group Los Prisioneros defined the sound of Chilean rock in the `80s and `90s, standing in opposition to Pinochet's military dictatorship, selling out stadiums across the Americas and laying the groundwork for today's "Rock En Español" movement. There's no doubt that he has top-notch studio chops, but González makes his outsider status a virtue: his beats don't sound like anyone else's. In Jorge González's inimitable, irrepressible style, the tracks swarm and squirm with bubbling congas, bouncing accordion blips and blasted strands of reverb. Full of motion and color, the songs balance the intensity of house and techno with the playful spirit of Raymond Scott. Riding a long, loping groove and leaning hard on a battery of psychoacoustic effects, this is Los Updates at their most focused, drilling to the heart of the dancefloor one friction-filled bar at a time.

Lukas Ligeti - Afrikan Machinery CD (Tzadik) [TZ8054] $14.50
"Lukas Ligeti is a young drummer and composer of deep musical lineage who has developed into one of the most interesting compositional voices working today. For his second Tzadik release Lukas focuses on electronics. Using the marimba lumina, a new instrument invented by the legendary electronic pioneer Don Buchla, he fuses electronic, acoustic, traditional, avant-garde, European, American and African influences to create a unique post minimal world of spinning polyrhythms and hypnotic textures. Beautiful and endlessly listenable."

Magik Markers - A Panegyric To The Things I Do Not Understand CD (Gulcher) [GULCHER604] $10.25
The latest from East Coast psych-rock heavyweights MAGIK MARKERS. "In spite of their punk roots, the Markers' form tends toward extended breakdowns: this disc is divided into two "sides"-two long tracks-the first running to 19:41, and the other is 19:38. No rules is the rule here. For instance, dig the near-a capella section on the first "side"-whistlin', odd voices, clappin', just an occasional rattle or beep-very casual and simple but mesmerizing. Then there's the part on the second "side" where it sounds like everything is moving in outta-focus slow-mo, like after you've drank waytoomuch cough syrup (DXM)-'n yr legs 've turned t' melted, oooozing plastic. But my favorite part (swoon!) is when Elisa begins an erotic gutter-cat rant: "I'm your ramblin' rose...I'm your Sister Anne," obvious references to the MC5. Imagine THAT band jammin' with Yoko Ono-and yer about halfway to here. Elisa raves against the torrent of Quimby's roaring feedback and Nolan's exploding skins in an intuitive way that recalls Patti Smith's lost-in-the-whirlpool moments and/or Damo Suzuki's most tongue-driven gestures with Can. Whew."-Eddie Flowers

Manhattan Love Suicides - Burnt Out Landscapes CD (Magic Marker) [MMR048] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 08-11-2008
"This Leeds foursome's fuzzed-out dream-pop recalls not only JAMC, but also the willowy female vocals of C86 alumni the Shop Assistants. However, rather than revive the sexualized gore of the 80s movie underground-- or the black-leather tropes of recent retro noise-poppers like the Raveonettes-- the Manhattan Love Suicides' elf-titled debut throbs with the giddy vulnerability of the scene that the NME's C86 compilation helped spawn." Pitchfork. The Manhattan Love Suicides have a mission. They want to write, record and release songs on their own accord. The DIY ethic is in their blood. The idea of getting their name out there by writing, recording, and releasing as many songs as you can as a way of promotion is old fashioned at best. This collection of songs are taken from the 4 singles they released over last year with additional unreleased songs as well as some live recordings. The Manhattan Love Suicides wear their influences on their sleeves and never has Phil Spector's Wall of Sound met so cohesively with Jesus and Mary Chain's. The hypnotic noise and feedback are highlighted with a pounding beat and heart breaking female vocals. Just when you are thinking the shoegaze drone will go on the hooks come in and you hear the girl group sounds to keep you from zoning out. For influences think Jesus and Mary Chain, Galaxie 500, The Velvet Underground, The Rosehips, The Golden Dawn, Meat Whiplash... that kind of stuff. Basically these are the bands that every hipster /record store clerk covets in their own collection. The Manhattan Love Suicides feature former members of the much buzzed about Leeds's band Pop Threat. A much talked and written about band that sparked Sonic Youth and Velvet Underground comparisons that released several singles, eps, and tracks that ended up on compilations. Who's songs played by John Peel landed them releases on Fierce Panda and Mook Records. With this release of 27 songs of 78 minutes of unadulterated crash pop with surprisingly no filler, The Manhattan Love Suicides have successfully followed up their critically acclaimed debut album even spawning followers like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and The Vivian Girls.

Mascott - Art Project CD (Red Panda) [RPR005] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-11-2008
I map out my days in the sand I know the water could wash it away I see how I feel and then I do what I can It took me so long to live in this way And I'm still learning every day --"Opposite," Mascott A musician's life in New York City is can be difficult. It's an expensive town that makes it nearly impossible to work solely as a working musician, so instead you set the alarm every morning and head to your day job in midtown. For Kendall Jane Meade of Mascott, that job reaped unintended benefits. With the freedom of a steady paycheck, she was able to indulge in her favorite job, one that has sustained her (and her fans) for years: an artist. The result is the aptly-named Art Project, a gorgeous collection of songs that showcase an artist unhindered by expectations, pressure or obligation--an artist writing and singing for no one but herself. The result is an indie-pop stunner: intimate, relaxed and beautiful. As a result, Art Project is Kendall's personal journal of sorts, rumination on modern city life, the ebb and flow of love, and tender poignancy of the small moments in between. "These songs are the only place in my life I can be completely honest," Kendall says. "In day-to-day life and in the corporate world, I feel the need for restraint...with these songs, I say what I want to say, create the melodies and guitar parts that are natural for me, and I don't worry about the outcome." The outcome, it turned out, needed no worry. From the keyboard and la-la-las of the beguiling opener, "Live Again" to the last foot stomp of the Appalachian rave-up "Wildwood Flower," Art Project captures nine moments of life that are both singular and universal. But it's hardly the first time for Kendall. After releasing two albums with '90s indie-pop band Juicy and touring with beloved acts like Helium, the Spinnanes and Sparklehorse, Kendall set out on her own in 1998 with the hushed, five-song acoustic EP, Electric Poems, followed by her full-length debut, Follow the Sound (Le Grande Magistery) in 2000. Produced by Jim O'Rourke (Wilco, Beth Orton, Joanna Newsome), the record alternated between shimmery and sparse, wide-eyed and forlorn. It was an artistic step forward that set the stage for Dreamer's Book, hailed by The New York Times as "serenely tuneful" and "quietly radiant" and released on her own label, Red Panda Records. The song "Turn Off/Turn On" from that record was featured on The O.C., and she later co-wrote and recorded an original song featured on Grey's Anatomy. And now comes the sublime Art Project. Living in a workaday world meant that the record would have to come about in its own time. Written over the course of two years and recorded on weekends at the Fort in Brooklyn (and interrupted in late 2007 when Kendall wrote the music and lyrics for an off-Broadway play), Kendall and producer James Bentley reassembled longtime Mascott members Dave Derby, Margaret White and Jud Ehrbar, and added stellar contributions from friends Anders Parker (Gob Iron) and Darren Jessee (Ben Folds Five, Hotel Lights), as well as Anna Padgett (the Naysayer), who duets on the old Carter Family standard "Wildwood Flower." Combining the enigmatic, '60s pop of cult favorite Margo Guryan with the mellow, modern pop of Camera Obscura, the new record reflects Kendall's growth as a songwriter, but also as a performer. Her honeyed voice, wistful and true as ever, is in perfect form--a fluid balancing act between highlights like the bittersweet "4th of July," the starry-eyed "Press Play (And Then Repeat)" and the brooding "Like Letting Go Of The Sun." Indeed, as on Mascott's earlier records, love is a preeminent theme: finding it ("Press Play"), holding onto it "(Live Again" and "Opposite"), reigniting it ("4th of July"), and, finally, losing it ("Like Letting Go Of The Sun," "Nite Owl" and Wildwood Flower"). The acoustic "Red Flowers" ruminates on waning friendships, while the self-reflexive "Dream Another Day" is the story of the record itself: getting up in the morning and going to work. Kendall's Art Project may not be the story of your life exactly, but it's probably close. That's what makes great music, and what makes Mascott's Art Project so irresistible: buried thoughts, skipped heartbeats and restless emotions. You listen, reflect and remember. And then you set your alarm for work and go to bed. TRACKLIST: 1. "Live Again" 2. "4th of July" 3. "Press Play (and then Repeat)" 4. "Red Flowers" 5. "Opposite" 6. "Dream Another Day" 7. "Like Letting Go Of The Sun" 8. "Nite Owl" 9. "Wildwood Flower"

Merzbow - Dolphin Sonar CD (Important Records) [IMPREC205CD] $13.50

Microscopic Septet, The - Lobster Leaps In CD (Cuneiform) [RUNE272CD] $14.00
"In 2006, Cuneiform Records reissued their four albums in two double-CD packages and these albums met with great acclaim and terrific sales and airplay. The Micros reunited to play a few shows to celebrate their release and had such a good fun that they decided to make it `an occasional regular thing.' So, they are back with their first album in 20 years! Their sound is the sound of jazz in America; all of it, from Ayler to Zorn, bebop to Basie, Ellington to Thelonious."

Myra Davies - Cities and Girls CD (Moabit Music) [MOABIT017CD] $13.75
RELEASE DATE: 10-14-2008

As with their Miasma trilogy, Davies' stories have been set to music by Gudrun Gut (Malaria!), as well as Beate Bartel (Liaisons Dangereuses) and the team of Danielle de Picciotto/Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten, Sprung Aus Den Wolken, M.D.K., Crime & The City Solution), who provide the musical accompaniment on two tracks.

New Radiant Storm King - Drinking In The Moonlight CD (Darla) [DRL201] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 10-07-2008
Northampton, MA/New York city indie rockers New Radiant Storm King deliver the tightest, hookiest and most diverse record in their distinguished career. Recorded over six months in deep, rural Massachusetts, Drinking in the Moonlight proves once again that guitarists/vocalists Peyton Pinkerton and Matt Hunter along with bassist Caleb Wetmore and drummer J.J. O'Connell write some of the most imaginative and memorable American rock. Approaching their twentieth year as a band, NRSK have gracefully matured as song smiths while retaining their prowess at crafting unconventional yet infectious melodies. Drinking in the Moonlight is a sonic mix of urban and rural, sporting distorted yet wiry pop with a marked focus on narrative within their song writing -- trademarks gratifying to longtime fans. Time spent in other bands (Pinkerton in The Silver Jews and The Pernice Brothers; Hunter in J. Mascis & The Fog and The Wharton Tiers Ensemble) has honed the Pinkerton/Hunter attack musically and lyrically. Over the course of thirteen songs, Drinking in the Moonlight addresses topics as varied as random street violence, infidelity and subsequent pregnancy, exorbitant winter heat bills and even an open condemnation of organized religion (Thank God -Ed). Drinking in the Moonlight was recorded with longtime NRSK engineer Mark Alan Miller (Cordelia's Dad, J. Mascis & The Fog) at his Slaughterhouse Studios in Westhampton, MA. NRSK will tour Fall 2008. TRACKS: 1) Soporific Slump - A few more pints and then back to your place on 1st Avenue. 2) Undignified - Hopefully you can convince everyone that you actually are being your natural self - and have been lying up until just now. 3) Senseless - If a random act of brutal violence changed your life for the better, how would you explain it to anyone? To yourself, even? 4) Islander - She could never handle the mainland for more than a few days at any given time. 5) Little Ice Age - Sometimes the idea of summer seems both impossible and absurd. 6) Anything Can Happen - And usually does, if you're lucky (or not). 7) New Paltz Waltz - Instrumental levity. 8) Eight Steps Closer - Slouching towards Echo Park, with a cosmo in her hand. 9) After the After Hours - Guns, drugs and hipsters - in way over their heads. 10) Midnight Comes - Time horizons always seem to stretch into forever on a first date. 11) Eraser - Lick your wounds and don't look back for a second. 12) Clouds Cover Everything - Are you really sure that your memories are totally your own? 13) Fall Prey - The world is flat. The sun revolves around it. We've progressed on so many fronts save one.

Nisennenmondai - Tori/Neji CD (Smalltown Supersound) [sts149] $15.00
Nisennenmondai means "Year 2000 Problem'' and is an instrumental Japanese girl trio from Tokyo. Visits to Tokyo by Lightning Bolt, Battles & No Age and others have unearthed these three girls with the mammoth sound. With song titles such as This Heat, Sonic Youth & Pop Group, one understand which musical territory the band comes from, and if you ad Black Flag, DNA, Neu! & Pere Ubu you are pretty close to Nisennenmondais sound. It's raw & repetitive (post) punk instrumentals, at the same time as they are wild groovy with a no wave/disco vibe to it. This is the first release outside of Japan & it contains the bands two EPs "Neji" and Tori" released as one album with new cover design by Kim Hiorthoy.

Off with their Heads - From The Bottom CD (No Idea) [NIR240] $12.00
"In a world where everything is falling apart, it's nice to know someone is worse off than yourself. Ha ha, okay, so I kid. But this guy RYAN must be driving himself crazy, what with all the dire hopelessness and impossibility wrapped up in his lyrics. One can only hope that this is his way of dealing with all the crap humanity sends his way. Or is he a magnet for misfortune? Combine this direct, desperate outlook with upbeat, forward-moving punk rock, and what do you have? A strangely uplifting, energetic rallying cry that-far from bogging down the listener-inspires one to get up off their ass and do something. When I need a pick me up, this is it. When I need to knuckle down & get 'er done, this is it. For you, maybe you need to kick a bad habit: this may not be for you. Or maybe... it's just what you need. (Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure Ryan is actually crazy. At least, that's what he told me.)"-Var (No Idea)

Prints - Just Thoughts CD (Temporary Residence Ltd) [TRR137] $10.25
Quickly following their debut full-length, PRINTS return to stir the pot with a little more pop, their usual dose of psychedelia and an intoxicating amount of dance. Once again produced at home by multi-instrumentalists ZAC NELSON and KENSETH THIBIDEAU, the songs here were originally conceived as B-sides for a proposed single for "Too Much Water" from the group's eponymous debut. By the time three new songs were completed, they stood too strong on their own to be pushed out as B-sides, so the decision was made to forfeit the single and instead offer the songs as a stand-alone EP. Meanwhile, DFA cofounder and HERCULES and LOVE AFFAIR producer TIM GOLDSWORTHY fired up his new alter-ego THEE LOVING HAND for an epic super-funk remix of a pair of Prints tracks. Acclaimed visual artist TOBEN SEYMOUR directed an eye-popping video for "Too Much Water," which is included here on the Enhanced CD portion of the disc.

2005 release. "San Francisco-based rock band So So Many White White Tigers play bad-energy, propulsive, off-timed noise skree with lots of ballsy guitar moves and dysfunctional vocal shrieks and squeals from Liza that are sure to sting and cause infection.

Son Ambulance - Someone Else's Déjà Vu CD (Saddle Creek) [LBJ120] $12.50
After more than three years since their last release, SON AMBULANCE emerges from hibernation deep in a realm of exotic '60s and '70s LPs for their third full-length, Someone Else's Déjà Vu, a bold leap back into the music world and the band's most challenging work yet. Primarily a JOSEPH KNAPP solo effort, collaborating closely with former/current member JEFFREY KOSTER, Someone Else's Déjà Vu marks a departure from 2005's Key, offers a sharper glimpse into Knapp's distinct song-writing abilities, and reflects a depth of complexity and dream logic made perfect for a sublime musical experience capable of engaging many new listeners of any age. Collectively, the songs form a cohesive palette of subtle pop psychedelia encompassing myriad musical genres. Features contributions from Omaha musicians including members of TILLY AND THE WALL and THE FAINT. A refreshing pastoral familiarity, think of Someone Else's Déjà Vu as great accompaniment to a day where your only responsibilities might include reading a book, petting your cat or thinking of an old friend.

Starlite Desperation - Take It Personally CD (Infrasonic) [INFRA005] $12.00
The wait is over! With three full-lengths behind them, THE STARLITE DESPERATION present Take It Personally, an epic twelve-song roller-coaster through the repressed and murderous memories of gated beach community child actors, desert real estate vampire parents, entertainment biz drug czars, and the redeeming twin powers of Music and Love to heal a mess even as bad as this. Take It Personally may be the most writhe-inducing Starlite Desperation disc ever. This opus, a helicopter crash-friendly bash crammed with psych-anthems, hoof-stompers, and tear-smirkers, explodes with addictive sing-along chic. Beautifully recorded tantrums, inappropriate outbursts, and tragicomic guru-noir lyrical ruins are unfailingly delivered with the rare passion and pathos that have made this band an inter-dimensional legend.

T. Raumschmiere - I Tank U CD (Shitkatapult) [STRIKE096CD] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 10-14-2008
After years of waiting, Shitkatapult label-head Marco Haas aka T.Raumschmiere finally releases the album that completes the series begun by the two previous Mute albums, Radio Blackout (2003) and Blitzkrieg Pop (2005). I Tank U is the end result of a musical progress: it is dark electronica, techno history, and songwriting, jammed in a terrific rock record. The number of featured guests on this album is remarkable: the notorious energy rappers from Deichkind with The Crack Whore Society, the alien rappers from the Puppetmastaz, the great Tim Vanhamel from Deus and Millionaire, the artist duo Warren Suicide, as well as Lilian Hak, Barbara Panther and Gene Serene.

Owl Service, The/Alison O'Donnell - The Fabric of Folk CDEP (Static Caravan) [VAN142CD] $15.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-01-2008
If you thought social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook were just devices which sucked you into an unstoppable vortex of wasted time, then think again. A chance discussion between Steven Collins and Alison O'Donnell, formerly of legendary Irish prog-folk troupe Mellow Candle, took place on such a website and out of that conversation came the first fruits of this collaboration. The Fabric of Folk is a 5-track EP featuring Collins' in his guise as mainman of the Owl Service, one generation of folk-rock crashing head-long into an earlier, glorious era represented here by the considerable vocal talents of Alison O'Donnell. Capturing the many different faces of folk-rock, the five songs here ~V two are original compositions by the pair, one of which was written with the Straw Bear Band's Dominic Cooper ~V are perfectly formed, heartfelt and touching but with more than a hint of darkness. This follows on from the Owl Service's previous release for Static Caravan, the Cine 3" CD (VAN 140), and arrives alongside their debut album A Garland of Song, which is being released on Southern Records. Meanwhile, Alison's former band Mellow Candle have returned to prominence on the back of the newly repackaged Swaddling Songs ~V their solitary album release ~V which has been remastered and reissued by Esoteric/Cherry Red. Inspired by a mutual recognition and respect, the pairing of Collins' band with O'Donnell is a dreamy combination. Imbued with a sense of revivalism, The Fabric of Folk is far from backward-looking and instead concocts something incredibly new which, while referencing the production techniques and masterful storytelling of Brit-folk's heyday, is bubbling with new ideas and an inherent knack for crafting sublime arrangements.

Thee Oh Sees - Sucks Blood CD (Tomlab) [TOM118] $14.00
Prior to entering The Master's Bedroom earlier this year, San Francisco's THEE OH SEES originally self-released the more subdued Sucks Blood in early 2007 to fund the latter's recording. Steeped in the natural hues of analog and reverb, Sucks Blood is a subtle gem of irresistible pop and basement psychedelia. Immediate classics include the ghostly saw-tinged title track and the charming lumber of the harmonious "Ship." Sucks Blood is quite simply yet another testament to the total genius of JOHN DWYER for those who have yet to heed.

Engine Down - From Beginning To End DVD (Lovitt) [LOV56] $15.25
Leaving behind nearly a decade's worth of diehard fans, innumerable shows, and indelible memories, ENGINE DOWN was a dynamic, forceful band that stood out from its peers. From the beginning, this innovative quartet exhibited a boldness in its sound that mixed intensity and measured songwriting to fashion something wholly unique. Engine Down was a group that masterfully alternated between bombast and introspection, between complexity and steadiness. After nearly a decade of making music, the members of Engine Down chose to play one final tour in the United States, and From Beginning To End chronicles that adventure. The story of Engine Down's career is revealed in candid conversations with the band members, their peers, and their fans. From their early days at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, through nine years of international tours and right up to their last hurrah, this film captures the experiences of Engine Down in detail and from all angles. In good times and bad, Engine Down was motivated by an earnest passion for playing music and for traveling together. Through their craft of soaring, lyrical, and ultimately unforgettable music, their deep camaraderie still shines. The DVD has over 3 hours of content and is packaged in a beautiful DVD digipak printed on 100% recycled board and with a 100% recycled plastic tray.

Head Resonance Company - 19 Tracks For Unknown People DVD+CD (Beta-Lactam Ring) [MT185] $19.25
HEAD RESONANCE COMPANY's swirling miasma of minimal electronics is more than an NDW high wasser mark; it is Teutons of fun. Their Sturm is a little bit DAF and their Drang, a little bit Liaisons Dangereuses (and their Ja Jawohl, a little bit Esplendor Geometrico). Head Resonance Company was formed not only as a musical project, but as an all out art collective, so their particular brand of minimal synth carries a pilsnered reek of experimentalism that raises their standard a bit above the coldwave rank and file of the day. Fairly revolutionary for the 1980-1984 period in which these tracks were recorded.

Jandek - Manhattan Tuesday - Afternoon Of Insensitivity 2xDVD (Corwood Industries) [0788] $17.75

The representative from Corwood plays Korg synthesizers (set to organ-like sounds) and sings; he is accompanied by LOREN CONNORS (electric guitar), MATT HEYNER (bass), and CHRIS CORSANO (drums). On the DVD edition, the whole concert fits on the first disc. The second disc, included at no extra charge, contains footage of the pre-concert rehearsal that afternoon.

Grey-area reissue; there was an obscure LP bootleg of this from a year or two ago and and there was one track from this album on the QDK Love, Peace & Poetry: African Psychedelic Music comp. Daniel Mehlhart - Origami 12 inch (Kindisch) [KINDISCH017EP] $11.50
"Daniel Mehlhart steps up to the plate for Kindisch's seventeenth release, Origami - an exquisitely deep, languid house jam laced with strung-out, processed Spanish guitar and gently euphoric xylophone arpeggios. `Origami' is languid, yes, but not exactly laid-back: it's held up and propelled forward by a gently vibrating lattice of kick-drum and snare hits, through which a dubby, molten bass-line and taut, time-keeping chords dreamily but determinedly flow."

Daniel Steinberg - Uptown/Revival 12 inch (Front Room) [FRM022EP] $11.50
"Having had great success on labels such as Microfon, Grandpetrol and Stylerockets, Daniel Steinberg is now one of the main representatives on Front Room and with this release delivers another innovative new twist on house. With the summer sounds of his last Front Room release Cobra Limbos still resonating around clubs, festivals and house lovers, Daniel delivers two more huge tracks. `Uptown' has the beats, bleeps and bass that Daniel has become renowned for, and with its cut-up vocals is catching people's heads just like he did with his huge smash `Pay For Me.' On the flip, `Revival' is a more hypnotically deep groover that builds continuously yet remains innovative and intriguing from beginning to end."

Dapayk Solo - Devil's House 12 inch (Mo's Ferry) [MFP037EP] $11.50
This two-track 12" by Dapayk Solo announces the release of his second album Devil's House. "Devil's House" elicits a proper bass response - pure frickelsound that pays attention to details. "A Saw Attacks" is sporty staccato minimal, while a full-stereo sawtooth sound and a demonic vocal sample take the lead, pushed by a strong punchy kick drum and accompanied by a sound design of clicks and sweeps.

Dave P. & Adam Sparkless - Sunday Nite In Glasgow 12 inch (Satellite Of Love) [SAT001EP] $12.25

Delete - Enough With The Games 12 inch (Frankie Records) [FRANKIE034EP] $11.50
"After his first release, Bleep That Glitch EP, Sergio Munoz aka Delete is back for a second strike with three original funky techno tracks and a brilliant remix from the Uruguayan duo Monoblock. We start with A1 track `Marco Polo,' an original piece of funky techno mainly composed using weird and hypnotic, subtle melodies mixed with cut voices, which gives a deep mental atmosphere. This follows with A2, the remix by Monoblock, which keeps the mental side of the original and adds melodic deep pads creating a great arrangement. On the flip, B1 is `Hide and Seek,' a more straight groovy techno tune floor-filler for sure, and we conclude with B2 `Tags,' a funky track from Delete's mental side."

Directing Hand - What Put The Blood LP (Dancing Wayang) [DWR002LP] $23.25

DJ Kentaro - Trust / Rainy Day 12 inch (Ninja Tune) [ZEN12213] $11.25
Japanese turnatable legend DJ KENTARO returns with a pair of remixes re-establishing his impeccable d&b credentials. First up, French turntablist-producer (he makes the bespoke breaks with which DJs go on to win numerous DMC and other battles) LE JAD takes "Trust" and builds from a filtered-out roots reggae into an ever-changing roll out that takes in everything from brass stabs to funk guitar and makes up for what it lacks in subtlety with pure, wide-eyed energy. Next, the QEMISTS do what they do best on their re-fix of "Rainy Days" (featuring NEW FLESH). They dominate. From the moment the bass drops you know you're powerless to resist. You may as well practice the "stepper's pogo" and be done with it. Heavy heavy.

Family Underground - Helium Rug One-sided LP (DNT) [DNT042] $13.25
Denmark's drone demons release another one. A helium rug would float, which is exactly what your melted mind will do while listening to this record. Whistling blown by the birds of hell. This has been in the works for quite some time. Originally intended to come out last summer on their US tour, but the label didn't want to flood the market (the band already had 3 LPs coming out the same time). Edition of 300 on black vinyl with bi-color stencil. The front cover is what you will look like after listening to this. Your mind will split open unleashing the helium rug from within. Artwork by ZACHARY FLEMING.

Fontan - Early Morning 12 inch (Information) [INF006EP] $10.75

Helical Scan - Index 12 inch (Monolake) [ML022EP] $10.75
This is a modified re-release of the Helical Scan single Index, released in 1997 on Chain Reaction and out-of-print for many years.

High Places - High Places LP (Thrill Jockey) [THR207LP] $13.50
No description available at this time.

Hrdvsion - Love's Duel 12 inch (Wagon Repair) [WAG041EP] $11.50
This release from Hrdvsion combines his signature fervid IDM style with patience. "Love's Duel (The Seduction Business)" is a slowly approaching storm, weaving melodies from disparate melodic tones and waves of rhythmic synth. Purposeful and enterprising, this sonic saga is a trip worth taking. "Melting Fire" is an industrious IDM production with a percussive line reminiscent of "dirty south" hip-hop's rattling hi-hat patterns. The remix is manned by Canadian duo Inkwell, transforming the original into a bass-heavy floor pleaser.

I Am Robot And Proud - Uphill City LP (Darla) [DRL215-1] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 10-28-2008
Limited edition of 1000 color vinyl.I Am Robot And Proud is the name Toronto native Shaw-Han Liem works under to create his singular brand of hypnotic, beguiling electronic pop music. Uphill City is the highly anticipated full-length follow-up to his very popular 2006 album The Electricity in Your House Wants to Sing. Just like the previous record, Uphill City is electronic pop music that energizes the listener and refreshes the ear yet Shaw-han's skill as clever pop composer has grown even more mesmerizing. IARAP is syncopated multi-instrumental rhythms and playful, repetitive multi-dimensional melodies -- just the elixir your head needs. Shaw-Han mixes acoustic instrumentation; piano, guitar and drums seamlessly with his unique electronic keyboard sounds and percussive elements. This isn't difficult, experimental IDM that pulls the listener off the left side of the dial. This is complex composition that manages to simply delight. It's an exciting sound that gives one the feeling of flying fast & free through a heavenly modern green world of pop, beauty, and sunshine. Your brain chemicals are sure to be balanced after the first minute into the title track. Ian Nagowski - Kerfooey LP (Ehse) [EHSE009] $14.75
"Two side-long excerpts from a 58-minute home-recorded performance, made in 2003 for Ben Green's "one hour as..." radio show on Resonance 103.3 FM, London. That performance turns out to have been a summary of the electronic music I made at home on four-track cassette and CDR from digital feedback circuits and the vibrating metal plate instrument invented by Dan Conrad, the Wild Wave, between 1998 and 2003. The source material for Kerflooey is comprised mostly of reworked sounds that turned up in other forms on my three previous finished records. Those solo releases are now basically unavailable, so Kerflooey works as another dose or a summary of that work-densely layered polydrones that try, through sensual immersion and pulsing, to manifest feelings, let them take their course, reveal them as lenses of time-perception and focus the lenses as close to the heart of the matter as I could. Since recording this, I became an improvising vocalist, an anthologist of early recordings, record shop co-owner and father."-Ian Nagoski

Jenn - Cheeky Interface 12 inch (Karateklub) [KARATE028EP] $11.50
"KarateKlub surprises with huge tracks from Jenn, fantastically remixed by Rebekah (Criminal/UK). With Cheeky, Jenn presents a groovy and much more minimal side than we heard on her last EP. Surprising and reduced, her sound loops up and down, embedded in a clonky bass drum structure. The remix, made by Rebekah, who is well known from her releases on Criminal Records, is just fantastic and completes the EP brilliantly. She designed a huge groove and pushed it forward. By adding her ideas she creates an excellent new track. The `Interface' original is specified by stomping and jigging beats, which are interspersed with smooth voices and melodies, before they are pushed up again. These girls have it and paint the town red!"

Jesse Rose & Action Man - Take It To The Club 12 inch (Made To Play) [MTP014EP] $11.50
"It's made to play so take it to the club, wind it up and and get your cheap thrills. Jesse Rose and Action Man (aka Herve) combine forces for the first time on Made to Play with two whacked out club smashes. In their own right these guys are no strangers to the scene having released numerous times on labels such as Dubsided and Counterfeet as well as turned their remix skills to fiddling with tracks by The Chemical Brothers, caressing tunes by Hot Chip and touching up Amy Winehouse. This meeting of minds is one of the most exciting collaborations since the Chuckle Brothers and last time Herve got into bed with another producer, it was Sinden and they came out with the massive `Beeper,' so expect equally monumental things from this release. Steaming, highly-strung demented tracks from two of the scene's biggest creatures - so buy it, tune in, turn yourself on and wig out."

Johan Fotmeijer - Sommerlinde 12 inch (Baum) [BAUM003EP] $11.50
"Baum Records proudly presents Johan Fotmeijer as a member of the label family. After his successful releases on labels such as Aesthetic Audio, Adjunct, Mille Plateaux and Boxer, Johan delivers a steady release on Baum. `Embrace The Night' takes you into the world of melodic Detroit techno. The soundscapes from the synthesizers just evolves in small catchy melodies that fit perfect with the music from pioneers such as Carl Craig and Mike Banks. The second track `Love Unlimited' is a track for the late night sessions. It starts with a steady kick, which leads into a calm atmospheric mood. The melodies blend perfectly with the white noise and slow delays."

Julian Chaptal - Tokens 2xLP (Remote Area) [REMOTE001LP] $19.00

LCD Soundsystem - Big Ideas 12 inch (DFA) [DFA2199] $7.50
After a brief rest following the Grammy-nominated, poll-topping album Sound of Silver, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM returns with a song written for the soundtrack to the Sony Pictures film 21. JAMES MURPHY's concept of what a big rock song made for a movie could sound like more than a balls-out Big Rock Song, the track delivers in unexpected ways, from the edgy opening two minutes that alone could serve as the score to a car chase, to the sudden explosion of choirs, blissful harmonies, and larger-than-life chorus. BABYTALK, who has created quite a buzz with two top-notch releases and is currently the toast of underground dance music and disco heads, remixes the track into something seemingly slower and definitely more sinister.

Marco Resmann - Sãu Paulo Lights 12 inch (Upon You) [UY014EP] $11.50
"As a small appetizer to his album, Marcos is leading us to the powerful wing beat of his over dimensional moth, which arises on A1 like a Phoenix from the ashes into the nightclub sky. And in the blaze of his drum-fire glows continuously his passion for ethno-percussion, which he knows how to use like almost no one else in the electronic context. The sexual performance power, which lives within his drum avant-garde, turns to meat in capitals like Sao Paulo, whose defoliated nights build a musical monument on the B-side."

Mark Broom - Black Russian 12 inch (2020 Vision) [VIS166EP] $10.75
No description available at this time.

MRI/Franklin De Costa - Flabbergast 12 inch (Resopal Red) [RSPRED025EP] $11.50
"Resopal Red series celebrates its twenty-fifth release with a bold step into the world of modern house music. Those who know the mother label's six year history know of the label's ability to roll with the best of them. From the early days releases by Luomo, DJ Pierre, introducing Tigerskin to the current stable of house acts such as Lemos, Kreon, MRI, Art Bleek Anthony Collins and Agnes, Resopal's successful sub-label RED gets ready again for the deeper side of the floor. The twenty-fifth release is a split 12"; by Franklin De Costa and MRI"

Mt. Sims - A Grave 12 inch (Hungry Eye) [EYE15] $10.25
Hungry Eye is proud to welcome the band/ art collective MT.SIMS to the stable. Already quite a name in his own right, frontman MATT SIMS has two albums under his belt on DJ Hell's International DJ Gigolo label as Mount Sims, the first of which, UltraSex, saw an American release via Emperor Norton, and was supported through a North American tour with Ladytron. The past year and a half has seen Matt relocate from LA to Berlin and and establish a new chapter in the Mount Sims legacy, rebuilding the band and working with producer THOMAS STERN of the legendary Crime and the City Solution. A Grave is the first offering of these new tracks and is available as a limited 12-inch on clear vinyl with stunning artwork by PETER WU (one time pressing of 1,000 worldwide) and pushes the band even farther into the creepier and more aggressive territory he's veered into, with a concoction of electronic music and stark post-punk he's become respected for.

Pontiak - Sun On Sun LP (Thrill Jockey) [THR206LP] $12.00
No description available at this time.

Sasse - New Sun Day 12 inch (Mood Music) [MOOD062EP] $11.50
"First single from the forthcoming album called Toinen, Sasse comes forth with two long, evolving, pulsing deep tracks which bring the Finn back into his roots of house music. `New Sun Day' is not exactly deep house in its purest form, but is evolving into a melodic synth-laden monster with a skippy rhythm and a deeper than deep bass line which rolls the track into a 12-minute journey of trippy melodies and quirky effects. `Clemens' is dedicated to a well known producer from back in da days with its stabby groove and white noise punctuated arrangement with slow evolving analog trickery in the bass-department."

Shallow Waters - Equal Eyes LP (Hospital Productions) [HOS218LP] $16.50

2005 release. "San Francisco-based rock band So So Many White White Tigers play bad-energy, propulsive, off-timed noise skree with lots of ballsy guitar moves and dysfunctional vocal shrieks and squeals from Liza that are sure to sting and cause infection.

U.S. Girls - Introducing... LP (Siltbreeze) [SB94] $13.25
If the alluring moniker used by MEGAN UREMOVICH conjures images of volleyball teams or cheerleading squads, forget it. Not that there's any doubt that Uremovich-sorry, U.S. GIRLS-couldn't rise and conquer either challenge. Like fellow DIY ingenues Sally Strobelight and Inca Ore, U.S. Girls' approach is deceptively ethereal and delightfully haunting; lithe, lysergic gamma rays of keyboard murk beamed over percussive bonk sort of resemble Diamanda Galas reinterpreting Suicide's Red Star. And dig that cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Prove It All Night," done in such an effortless, barbital lush you'd swear the air was filled with mescaline. Guess what? It's not. "In her cover version of The Kinks melancholy anthem 'Days,' U.S. Girls sticks to Albert Einstein's wise maxim 'Make it as simple as possible, but not simpler.' The dirgey clatter of the drums brings to mind images of old steam machines advancing through vast fields where things grow slow and women sing folk songs which are eternal because they are sung from the heart and nothing else. U.S. Girls' voice does this, free from decoration, frills or pretense, mapping the country of the soul with a burning honesty strange in this reality, something we also find in the ballads of Acid Mothers Temple sorceress Cotton Casino."-20jazzfunkgreats.co.uk Hand-screened cover, one-time edition of 500.
