Arthur Russell - Love Is Overtaking Me CD (Audika Records) [AU1010CD] $15.00
"Four years ago, Audika Records began releasing the exceptionally varied, long sought-after music of Arthur Russell, and in the process has succeeded at helping the beloved, late artist find the broader audience he always believed he would reach. A new generation of listeners and critics has come to appreciate Russell as a visionary and an influence upon a broad range of today's most compelling musical artists. On October 28, Audika will bring to light an as-yet-unavailable side of Russell's body of work-the most rare and, at the same time, arguably the most accessible part-in Love Is Overtaking Me, which comprises 21 demos and home recordings of unreleased pop, folk and country songs from his vast catalog. While much critical and popular affection for Russell's music has come about well after his untimely death from AIDS in 1992, many fellow artists believed in his genius and were drawn to collaborate with him during his lifetime. The legendary producer John Hammond (Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen) recorded Russell on several occasions; a number of these recordings will finally heard on Love Is Overtaking Me. So, too, will songs recorded with various incarnations of The Flying Hearts, a group formed by Russell and Brooks whose shifting lineup included, by turns, Jerry Harrison, Rhys Chatham, Jon Gibson, Peter Gordon and Peter Zummo as well as larry Saltzman and David Van Tieghem. Several other Russell projects are represented on Love Is Overtaking Me, including The Sailboats, Turbo Sporty and Bright & Early. Compiled from over eight hours of material, three years in the making, Love Is Overtaking Me reaches back further to Russell's first compositions from the early '70s and spans forward to his very last recordings, made at home in 1991. Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear contributed mixing, restoration and editing to the album, whose tracks were selected by Audika's Steve Knutson, Ernie Brooks and Russell's companion, Tom Lee. A number of the songs feature prominently in Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell, Matt Wolf's film, which had its world premiere this year at the Berlin International Film Festival and will be released theatrically and on DVD this fall by Plexifilm. Love Is Overtaking Me is the fifth release of Russell's material by Audika Records, whose work has proven that the music remains as contemporary today as when it was first recorded. The label launched with the disco/new wave collection Calling Out Of Context (2004) and continued with a reissue of the cello-and-voice masterpiece World Of Echo (200S); the instrumental compositions double-disc First Thought Best Thought (2006); and the hip-hop-inspired Springfield EP (2006), which includes a DFA remix of the title track. Extensive Love Is Overtaking Me liner notes by Tom Lee provide an intimate perspective on Russell's diverse catalog, which spanned an extraordinary diversity of styles and won the love of artistic communities that would seem utterly disparate, from Philip Glass, John Cage and Allen Ginsberg to rock bands like The Talking Heads and The Modern lovers; the pre-Studio 54 disco-party scene of Nicky Siano's Gallery and David Mancuso's loft; and DJ-producers like Francois Kevorkian and Larry Levan, among others."

Asad Qizilbash - Sarod Recital/Live In Peshawar CD (Sub Rosa) [SR283CD] $14.75
Asad Qizilbash has been the only master of the sarod in Pakistan since 1992, keeping this traditional instrument and its music alive. Asad was born in 1963 to the famous violinist K.H. Qizilbash, who was responsible for closing the gap between Western and Eastern classical music. After attending a concert performed by his future Master, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Asad decided to devote himself to the instrument. Today, Asad Qizilbash has the honor to perform regularly at his President's house where Head of State Representatives, monarchs, diplomats and guests from all around the world have witnessed and appreciated his unique style of classical narration. Peshawar is the capital of the Northwest Frontier Province in Pakistan. The city, once called Purushapura, "City Of Flowers," was the capital of the ancient Greco-Buddhist center of Gandhara. Over the centuries, it has been the entry-point to invaders, conquerors and refugees. It remains an important military crossroad today. This, Asad Qizilbash's sarod recital in Peshawar, was carried out under extremely perilous and rather singular circumstances. An outstanding performance -- a moment of freedom from war. Asad Qizilbash (sarod), Mustafa Khan (tabla).

Joy Division - In The Studio With Martin Hannett 2CD (Interstate) [INTERSTATE10798] $18.75
Signifying one of the most important JOY DIVISION discoveries to date, Cargo Records is, with the approval of his family, releasing MARTIN HANNETT's mix tapes of the 1978 and 1979 Cargo Studios, Rochdale sessions, plus Hannett's other mixes of songs and sound effects from Strawberry and Britannia Row. Hannett had a habit of running quarter-inch tape machines throughout all Joy Division recording sessions and had an agreement with the band to create his own versions of the recording sessions. He went with the band to various studios and continually remixed what he recorded and experimented feeding what he had recorded through his AMS delays while playing around with synthesizers. It is Hannett's use of these weird and wonderful sounds that makes Joy Division's records stand out above any other punk or post-punk band, and this CD provides unprecedented insight into the process of the man who made it all possible.

Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution - Kraftwerk And The Electronic Revolution DVD (Sexy Intellectual) [SIDVD541] $17.75
This DVD reviews the career and music of KRAFTWERK, from their inception in the late 1960s (as pre-Kraftwerk ensemble ORGANIZATION), through their most celebrated period in the mid 1970s, and culminating with their resurgence during the 1980s with the popularity of synth-pop and techno. The film further explores how Kraftwerk both fitted in and pulled away from the electronic wing of what is often lazily referred to as 'Krautrock'. Sparing time also for many of the groups' contemporaries from the same field, and tracing the unfolding of electronics in German contemporary music generally, this program presents a fascinating story previously untold on film. It features rarely seen live and performance footage of Kraftwerk and of other Electronic and 'Krautrock' bands-much from private collections, rare photographs of Kraftwerk and others, exclusive and extensive Interviews with ex-Kraftwerk members and other German ambient and electronic musicians, contributions and enlightenment from German academics, writers and journalists, live and studio recordings of many of Kraftwerk's pivotal tracks, plus live and studio recordings of many other bands form the 'Krautrock' movement.

Osman Arabi - Burning Sigils CD (Fractured Spaces) [09874] $18.25
The third release on FracturedSpacesRecords is Osman Arabi's "Burning Sigils", a single 38-minute track of deeply hypnotic ethno-ambience tinged with a cold darkness; a forgotten text written in the blood of generations, a story of long-buried secrets and civilisations that worshipped dark gods in the hidden kingdoms, lost to time and memory, becoming covered by both sand and the unforgiving ravages of time. This languid and hip-swayingly sinister piece builds slowly, unfolding its narrative unhurriedly, in the same way that the ages-old deserts themselves have been around forever, in the process resurrecting the shades of aeons-dead peoples and blowing cold winds across the heat-ridden sandy wastes. Delve with us into the black heart of a now-vanished civilisation and visit the incense-filled temples of the gods of the arid places.

Aids Wolf - Cities Of Glass CD (Skin Graft) [GR91] $13.25
Produced by WEASEL WALTER (Flying Luttenbachers, XBXRX, Arab on Radar), Cities of Glass is the second album from the most hated band in the world! Just votes short of being banned from Canadian radio, and prevented from entering the USA numerous times, AIDS WOLF are globally confounding and universally profound. With Cities of Glass, AIDS Wolf return to what they do best: embracing the hate and bumming out the masses. Packaged in swank gatefold sleeves. "There is a distinct discipline at work here, a crafted sense of composition that unexpectedly rears out of the sonic wreckage"-The Wire

Aliens - Head First CD (Misc Music) [MISL010] $11.75
After a string of successful single releases ALIENS release their first album, Head First. The album represents the culmination of more than a year of recording and mixing at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. Aliens is the musical entity created by BLAKE SANDBERG, featuring Blake on guitars and vocals with drummer RAANEN BOZZIO. Head First brings together musicians and talent from around the world including guest drummers TAMAKI UI from Japan, Raanen Bozzio, son of Frank Zappa's drummer Terry Bozzio, and even Iggy Pop and David Bowie drummer, HUNT SALES. The bulk of the album was recorded in Austin with engineer MARK YOUNGER-SMITH. The Head First album proves that Aliens are not afraid, and not afraid to rock! Head First is an expansive album with each song adding a different sound or mood and feeling. Each song is simple, stripped down, but each unique. The songs are direct and catchy. These are songs you will remember the next day.

Angela Desveaux - Mighty Ship CD (Thrill Jockey) [THRILL203] $14.00
The follow up release to Montreal country chanteuse ANGELA DESVEAUX's 2006's Wandering Eyes album. Joined by her road-tested band THE MIGHTY SHIP, Desveaux tells stories of strength in the face of adversity, including the story of her grandmother on the album's title track, a young girl struggling to define herself on "For Design," and her own self-affirmation on "Red Alert." The songs are decorated with her beloved country flavors of pedal steel, piano and viola, but new to the mix are flourishes of horns, and a bolder interaction between rhythm and lead guitar. Also striking are Angela's vocal harmonies with FEUERSTACK, whose voice is familiar to many from his Juno Award-winning work in WOODEN STARS.

ANTIchildLEAGUE - The Father CD (Hagshadow) [09870] $15.50
ANTIchildLEAGUE AKA Gaya Donadio The premier promoter of Noise- Industrial and Neo-Folk in London via Hinoeuma the Malediction for more than the last decade. Bart Davenport - Palaces CD (Antenna Farm) [ANT526] $11.75
After years as a pillar of the Bay Area scene, BART DAVENPORT is ready to break out into the national conscience. After his self-described "studio side project" HONEYCUT exploded with their album The Day I Turned to Glass, Davenport's soulful singing and ear for amazing melodies are reaching their biggest audience yet with his fourth solo album, Palaces. On Palaces, Davenport's singing is rich, deep and nuanced, while his lyrics sparkle with plainspoken poetry that offers telling insights into the minds and hearts of his subjects. The classic songs of artists like Arthur Lee, Emitt Rhodes, Harry Nilsson, and Paul McCartney are touchstones. The album balances a sunny vibe with a streak of melancholy and subtly echoes the sound of yesterday's AM radio hits while offering its own bright vision of future pop. Produced by Davenport with more than a little help from his friend KELLEY STOLTZ and features stellar contributions from some of the San Francisco Bay Area's top musicians, including Stoltz, ANGELINA MOYSOV (PERSEPHONE'S BEES), TONY SEVENER, and HERVE SALTERS (Honeycut).

Betty Botox - Mmm, Betty! CD (Endless Flight) [EF002CD] $15.25
Betty Botox is the re-edit project of JD Twitch of Optimo, and this is his first full-length release. Inspired by his sets with JG Wilkes at Glasgow's Sub Club, Mmm, Betty! compiles hard-to-find proto-"classics" of nu-disco, dub, Kraut, industrial, and electronic. This release starts off with The Jellies, and their track "Jive Baby On A Saturday Night," which is a slanted, bouncy bass-driven and handclap number that is virtually impossible to find anywhere else but here. Next is the Love Of Life Orchestra -- after James Murphy used the original version to begin his own mix CD, many people looked for this record, but the original 12" is mega-rare. This Betty Botox version is mixed with another song, "Don't Don't" from the same 12". A very funny but very interesting re-edit. There's a track by The Residents -- their music is always amusing and difficult to understand. However, after you listen to this re-edit, you will know why JD Twitch picked this song -- it's like an original song by Optimo! Severed Heads are early Australian progenitors of avant garde/industrial from the late '70s, and Pankow are pioneers of EBM/industrial in Italy. Their edited track "Girls And Boys" was taken from their first album produced by Adrian Sherwood. Carlos Peron was a member of '80s Swiss electronic/synth-pop band Yello, and "Et" was taken from a mega-rare limited 12", Frigorex. The UK's Hawkwind are one of the most popular and nameable space-rock bands in the world. Their music has been used on mix CDs by disco dub artists such as Prins Thomas, and the track presented and edited here is a whirling, cosmic, guitar and synth-driven maelstrom. Flying Rhythms is a very well-known jam band in Japan and their track is transformed into a no/disco shaker, driven by bongos. Zed is the project of Bernard Szajner, a progressive/industrial/electronic rock pioneer and inventor of the Laser Harp. His two albums Visions Of Dune and Some Deaths Take Forever have been described by Carl Craig as his all-time favorite electronic records. "Framen" is taken from Visions Of Dune and has been edited by Naum Gabo (Jonnie Wilkes of Optimo). Betty Botox is bound to leave you spaced-out, musically schooled and transformed.

Beyond Things - Our Call Outs CD (Plan-It-X) [PIX076] $9.00
Featuring members of the oldest Plan-It-X band, THE TED DANCIN' MACHINE and Hannah Jones of GHOST MICE, this album is hard to define sound wise. Spooky melodies, acoustic instruments, drums and violin. Three of the members were also in Bloomington's best indy/art band, THE PANOPLY ACADEMY GLEE CLUB (on Secretly Canadian Records).

Boston Spaceships - Brown Submarine CD (GBV Inc) [GBVI03] $13.25
Though one will notice some subtle prog flourishes and acoustic strums, Brown Submarines is a pop punk album, made by and for kids who've worn out the grooves on their Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Wire, and dBs records. While ROBERT POLLARD has stretched out post-GBV, experimenting on each of his diverse and unique solo records, BOSTON SPACESHIPS rock hard, have fun, and drink Miller Lite. Without undue hyperbole, Pollard is penning fantastic pop songs in a style no longer fashionable-perhaps never fashionable. Makes no difference; on Brown Submarine, Pollard's charged up and sings his ass off. He was so enthusiastic about this album that he's decided to play his first proper club tour in two years. This from a guy who hates flying, goes bananas sitting in the van, and has turned down tours with Radiohead and The Strokes. Give Brown Submarine a spin or two-it'll make you feel like a kid again, too. Features former members of GBV, TAKEOVERS, DECEMBERISTS, JICKS, etc.

Bound Stems - Family Afloat CD (Flameshovel) [DIG044] $13.25
Feels like high stakes these days, doesn't it? BOUND STEMS' version of this feeling is called The Family Afloat. It collects the time spent since the release of their last album, 2006's Appreciation Night, and refracts it through dozens of characters, viewpoints, voices, instruments and sounds. The Family Afloat expresses a crucial personal transition and a collective one. While Bound Stems quit their day-jobs to tour relentlessly throughout 2006 in support of Appreciation Night (an album that garnered praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Alternative Press, URB and Chicago Tribune), the band returned home ready for new challenges, and made the communal decision to return to the more stable life of work weeks and strong roots. It was a choice that also ultimately made the concept of home central to The Family Afloat. The songs sound like preparation: the family has grown now, to include new ones being formed in Chicago. But there's no settling down in these songs: family life is raw and confusing, as uncomfortable and unexpected and rewarding as crucial.

Calexico - Carried To Dust CD (Quarterstick) [QS108] $13.75
For Carried To Dust, CALEXICO called on a rotating cast of musicians and friends to help them create what is arguably their most varied and strongest work to date. Carried To Dust is a shining example of the band's commitment to constantly molting and redefining who they are and also reflects the band's amazing live shows, as well as underscoring their restraint and beauty.

Callers - Fortune CD (Western Vinyl) [WV052] $13.25
"Throughout their debut Fortune SARA LUCAS' voice and RYAN SEATON's guitar are seamlessly interwoven, creating a haunting and soulful kind of magic. With the wounded perseverance of Karen Carpenter and the vulnerable, tough-as-nails courage and acceptance of Heart's Ann Wilson, Sara Lucas' voice is rich and unforgettable. Seaton's guitar work is equally engaging, using beautiful unusual chords, gritty distortion, and intricate flourishes."

Charlie Louvin - Steps To Heaven CD (Tompkins Square) [TSQ2059CD] $12.75
"Features 10 traditional gospel classics including 2 Louvin Brothers songs. The release will be followed by Charlie Louvin Sings Murder Ballads & Disaster Songs. Both albums were produced, recorded and mixed by Mark Nevers (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Andrew Bird, Bobby Bare Sr.). Instead of hanging back at age 81, Charlie has instead chosen to challenge himself. Steps To Heaven was recorded live with a gospel choir comprised of three sisters, journeyman gospel pianist Derrick Lee, and Chris Scruggs, adding doghouse bass and electric guitar. Louvin had never recorded with black gospel musicians before, and in doing so discovered a new musical path. Charlie remarks, 'I did things on the gospel record I had no idea I could do. I'd be thinking along the way, 'How can I do things I've never done before?' And I did it.' 2007 saw Louvin celebrate his 80th birthday amidst a swirl of activity around the release of his first studio album in ten years, Charlie Louvin. Grammy-nominated for 'Best Traditional Folk Album,' the disc features George Jones, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Will Oldham, and Elvis Costello, among others. Charlie toured and recorded with Lucinda Williams, made a video for the song 'Ira,' released a field recording of one of his many in-store performances, Live at Shake It Records, played over 100 concert dates sharing stages with Ryan Adams and Neko Case, appeared on giant festivals like Bonnaroo and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, and placed a medallion around Emmylou Harris' neck inducting her into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Charlie's self-titled album earned 4 out of 5 stars in Uncut and MOJO magazines, and sparked a bevy of great press and renewed interest in his fascinating career."

Conifer - Crown Fire CD (Important) [IMPREC209] $13.00
Though Conifer has received quite a bit of critical praise they've somehow managed to live off the grid for the past six years. With Crown Fire Conifer is finally getting the exposure they deserve. Mixing post-rock, kraut-rock, metal and pschychedlia they have created this relentlessly driving and hypnotic masterpiece. Crown Fire's only vocals are from Oxbow's Eugene Robinson fronting the albums final 13 minute epic. LP version limited to 500 copies with 200 on color vinyl. Conifer has been writing primarily instrumental music with a lawless take on the styles from which they've taken cue. New content is found by way of augmenting brutality and suspense with time. Conifer seems to reckon with the notions of bands like Enemymine, Mogwai, or Grails while taking an approach toward their music that's entirely meditative (as opposed to premeditated). Minimal, ethereal passages are narcotically lengthened and crescendos of distortion are sustained well beyond the boundaries adhered to by many of their peers. "Heavy" by way of being beat/repetition heavy in not only a Shellac/Helmet sense but in a way that is practically reminiscent of electronic discipline. Crushing riffs amidst the most ethereal, minimal moments. Six years in, Conifer has emerged from their mind forest into the clearing that is the future and past. Band members have come and gone and come again. Crown Fire is the latest battle that Conifer has fought in the war of obtuse movement. Welcoming dense riffage washes over the listener for the first half of the record, referencing pan Asian themes and musical manifest destiny. The bombast that is their live show comes through loud and clear, intertwined with moments of delicate reflection. Without warning it all goes wrong, the mainframe explodes, the ships crash, the tide of despair and denial rises never to recede. Hailing from the capital of the heavy state of Maine, Conifer has an extremely close relationship with fellow travellers Ocean. These two groups have shared a lot over the years including members, tour transportation, practice spaces and members of the two groups grew up together in rural costal towns. Though different in sound they're quite kindred in spirit and obviously Conifer is essential for anyone who loved Ocean's Here Where Nothing Grows.

Damien Jurado - Caught In The Trees CD (Secretly Canadian) [SC175] $13.25
DAMIEN JURADO just keeps plugging away, creating some of the best folky, singer-songwriter music out there right now, even as acts that mine a similar sound, like Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, attract more blog buzz. Plenty of input on Caught in the Trees came from Jurado's longtime tour backers, JENNA CONRAD and ERIC FISHER. Jurado took a year to craft the album, the longest he's ever worked on one LP. Some of the songs here ramp up to a rocking level Jurado hasn't been at since his 2002 album I Break Chairs, which he recorded with the backing band Gathered in Song. Production assistance came from CASEY FOUBERT, who has played in Pedro the Lion, Seldom, and Crystal Skulls.

Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip - Angles CD (Strange Famous) [SFR020] $13.25
No description available at this time.

Dave Aju - Open Wide CD (Circus Company) [CCi005CD] $16.00
This is San Francisco producer Dave Aju's debut full-length release, including a bonus remix by Luciano. After three amazing EPs on Circus Company, including the underground hit "Be Like The Sun," he has really outdone himself this time with his most conceptual and personal, yet accessible work to date. The album was made entirely with sounds from his mouth, but it's no novelty affair -- these are all wonderful pieces of music, covering a variety of styles. "Roundabout" starts things off with fat, shuffling drums, an infectious bass line, and a vocal refrain that builds into a "horn-section" crescendo -- straight from Chicago via Aju's mouth. "Bump" is a fun and futuristic approach to hip-hop storytelling with a "bumpity-bump" bass. "Crazy Place" is an homage to disco, pop, and wave styles, but Aju's version takes it to the next level -- pulsing LFOs, "live" mouth percussion, and a chorus and breakdown guaranteed to melt hearts and dancefloors worldwide. Next up is "First Love," a super-deep and soulful house track with spoken word connecting Aju's personal music history, referencing song titles up to this moment -- pure class. "Tapatio" shifts back to his raw party side with huge sub-bass, sick bleepy synth hits, and playful vocal cut-ups. The title track follows, bringing a crazy broken reggaeton-style groove, complete with clattering teeth percussion, squeaky funk synth riffs, and a dark and lovely chorus. "Anyway" is Aju's take on an uplifting house music anthem, recalling Lil'Louis with Sun Ra Arkestra vocals. "With You" closes the album on a slow and sweet note, bubbling over with smooth synths, warm bass, and some of the most tasteful vocoder work around, on a 21st century Roger and Zapp love tip. Open Wide, friends -- Dave Aju has arrived.

De Salvo - Mood Poisoner CD (Rock Action Records) [ROCKACT038CD] $17.75
"Based in Glasgow, Scotland and featuring members of Stretchheads and Idlewild, De Salvo twist the influence of hardcore and metal to demand your total sensual attention. This is incendiary, visceral and genuinely perverse music. Assimilating the sounds of traditional hardcore like Converge, Mastodon and Black Flag with the psychedelic madness of Butthole Surfers, De Salvo have gained a reputation as one of the best live bands in the UK. They are both confrontational and memorable but influence only tells half the story. Put simply De Salvo are not a band it is easy to categorize. Their music is filthy, it's dirty, it's in your face, it leaves you feeling moist, aroused and slightly guilty. Recorded in early 2008 at Chem19 Studios with producer Paul Savage (whose credits include; Mogwai, Arab Strap & Malcolm Middleton) Mood Poisoner emerges as one of the hardcore albums of the year. De Salvo's debut album is a punishing ride for sure but it's an exhilarating experience all the same. F*** the destination, welcome aboard 'cos it's time to strap-in and strap-on to truly experience this."

Dean & Britta - L'avventura CD (Double Feature) [CD-DBL0001] $13.75

Includes four remixed tracks by SONIC BOOM, originally released on the Sonic Souvenirs EP.

Don Chambers and Goat - Zebulon CD (Warm Electronic Recordings) [WRM119] $11.50
"These are adventure songs, instructional and subjective, throw out the map and drive, the joy is in the journey. Moses said the tribe of Zebulon would suck of the abundance of the seas and of treasures hidden in the sand. That's what we are going for here, the pirates dream of buried treasure. Another Zebulon was Zebulon Montgomery Pike Jr., for which the Georgian town and county was named. He was an American soldier and explorer for whom Pikes Peak in Colorado is named. Oddly, he never actually made it to the top of the mountain now famously named after him. These songs came out of travel and adventure, being away from home and coming back. Feeling stuck and feeling like your floating, untethered and strange. Waiting to feel homesick, while you are living in the mercury present."-Don Chambers

Donkeys - Living On The Other Side CD (Dead Oceans) [DOC014] $13.25
THE DOBKEYS are four dudes from San Diego. They like making music together. Sometimes their music is loud, and sometimes it's quiet, but always it is awesome. The Donkeys basically just write ruling songs. Living on the Other Side is about rolling down the windows, cranking up the stereo, and hitting the open road. Maybe you're running away, and maybe you're not, but either way, everything's going to be alright.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Colours CD (Goner) [41GONE] $11.00
Goner Records is proud to present the second album from Melbourne, Australia's EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING. Primary Colours was released to rave reviews and sold out shows Down Under, with the first week sales putting the record at number six on the Australian national charts. Eddy says, "musically, to me it sounds a bit more '82ish than the '76ish sound of our first LP, slightly less frantic and maybe a bit more palatable."

Ergs - Hindsight Is 20/20, My Friend CD (Dirtnap) [ZZZ77] $12.25
You don't want to listen to the same type of music all the time, so why would a band want to drone through songs that all sound the same? THE ERS have the talent to play outside the lines. The New Jersey-based trio draws influences from the strongest sections of the SST catalog, pop punk in the vein of both Ramones and Descendents, country, and even jazz. When listening to The Ergs, prepare to have your definition of pop punk challenged. As a band, everything goes; As listeners, everyone wins.

Eric Ayotte - Remnants Of Storytown CD (Plan-I-X) [PIX075] $9.00
At last ERIC AYOTTE has released an album of the songs he has been touring with for the last few years. If you have ever seen him play a show you will recognize the hits on this indie-acoustic full-length. Eric is also the singer of another Plan-It-X band, HALO FAUNA.

Expo 70 - Animism CD (Kill Shaman) [CDEXPOANIM] $12.00
NOW AVAILABLE!!! EXPO 70's 2007 Animism album is the form of a living being, driving deep, dark drones that resonate in the embodiment of life. Animism is a collection of improvisations made mostly out of heavily effected guitar, recorded and performed by JUSTIN WRIGHT.

Format:B - Steam Circuit CD (Highgrade) [HIGH054CD] $16.00
This is the first full-length release by Berlin's Format:B. Steam Circuit comes with a lot of pressure and fun, but by all means is so much more than just a load of hot air. Franziskus Sell and Jakob Hildenbrand always stand out on the Highgrade label with their highly energetic tracks, which are strongly club-oriented without losing musical sense, funkiness or the joy of playing around. Their EP releases Like A Techmachine or the extremely successful Bronson Road are little milestones in Highgrade's label history. Steam Circuit presents new work, plus some of their most successful tracks so far, presented in the form of a DJ mix that demonstrates their whole spectrum: from the dark, bouncing "Edding 850" to trips into more acid-like areas with "Boot Cut" or the easy-rollin' stuff like "Like A Techmachine." When vocals are in the game, Format:B goes one step further "Si Pero No" has the clear potential to hit the scene like Pier Bucci's "Hay Consuelo" did. In cooperation with Jake The Rapper on "Something Suitable," they combine their trademark sub-bass lines with hypnotic sounds and deliver in combination with Jake's vocals the perfect instant-club-banger. All in all, it's a wild ride on the zeitgeist of club sound -- powerful tracks which seem to never lose their breath.

Gaslight Anthem - Sen Or And The Queen CDEP (Sabot Productions) [ACT021] $8.25
FEATURED THIS WEEK ON NPR!!! In the brief span of two years, New Brunswick, New Jersey's THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM have accomplished more than most bands will in a career's worth of existence. Despite the fact that they only have one full-length to their name (2007's Sink Or Swim), the band have written songs that are dripping with so much authenticity it seems they would take decades of hard living to craft. The four-song EP, Senor and the Queen, recorded during a rare few days off in Austin, Texas, last year, shows the progression the band have made in the last year from literally every waking moment on the road. The result is a collection of songs that are remarkably varied, with the only unifying characteristic being their timelessness and authenticity. Anthemic punkers, upbeat rockers, and even a soulful country-esque ballad.

Gasman - Superlife CD (Planet Mu) [ZIQ208] $13.25
It's been a busy year for Portsmouth's GASMAN, what with playing live and starting his own label, and one can hear the influence of his support tour with The Cardiacs on Superlife, his ninth album. The record is full of beatless electronic lullabies such as "RXG3," which unsettles in all the best ways, and "Helpline," with its distinct sense of the uncanny just around the corner. Opener "Ruter" is a majestic, synth-led carousel of notes where the Blackpool Pier meets '90s trance. It's another winner from The Gasman's trademark "Gaylord" sound. No exports to the UK, Europe, or Australia.

Generic - Torture CD (Fractured Spaces) [09873] $18.25
For its second release, FracturedSpacesRecords couldn't have chosen a better one: Generic's "Torture"¬ù, a long and deeply unsettling journey into the beating black heart, and Antarctic iciness of the collective shattered psyche, of a shattered mankind. Created using "foley tracks" and sound effects (used for both film and television), as well as the occasional guitars, bass, and found sounds, it all combines to produce a haunting, nerve-shredding, ghostly and schizophrenic soundtrack, guaranteed to simultaneously freeze the heart and mind, and induce cold sweat to bead the forehead and shivers to wrack the body. Six mid to long tracks of bleak mindscapes totalling just over 50 minutes and wrapped in beautiful full colour digipak with artwork by new German digital artist THAMUS.

Giant Sand - Provisions CD (Yep Roc) [YEP2188] $14.50
"GIANT SAND is a mood," says HOWE GELB. The creative force behind the extended family that has comprised Giant Sand over the years speaks of happy accidents and musical auras that arise to inspire the soundscape that is Giant Sand. The musical family tree of the Tucson, AZ group is long and illustrious, spawning bands like Calexico and The Friends of Dean Martinez. Gelb has steadily amassed a prolific catalog of Giant Sand and solo material that spans the wealth of southwestern roots and lo-fi. Giant Sand's new album proVISIONS is cinematic Americana at its most aching, an album of tremolo soaked guitars, moody piano and secrets whispered over desert winds. Recorded partly in Tucson and Denmark, this version of Giant Sand is comprised of Danish musicians and features talented friends/collaborators such as NEKO CASE, M. WARD and ISOBELL CAMPBELL. A creeping cruise down a dark desert highway, these proVISIONS provide for the furthering ride of Giant Sand's completely unique musical legacy.

Girls - Yes No Yes No Yes No CD (Dirtnap) [ZZZ76] $12.25
Seattle's THE GIRLS play brisk, well-constructed synth-punk that splits the difference between the hookiness of British new wave, the slick professionalism of the Cars, and the weirder strains of synth-punk. Ten tracks of twitchy, keyboard driven poppy post punk.

Git Some - Cosmic Rock CD (1-2-3-4 Go) [GO32] $12.00
GIT SOME is a band from Denver, Colorado consisting of four dudes (including CHUCK and NEIL from PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS) who grew up on 80's punk rock, Reagan-era America, and shitty weed, discharging cathartic bursts of noise that shatter angst and inhibitions. Cosmic Rock was born of wild abandon, loud-ass guitar, bass and drums, and an explosive singer. It's all the good things about hardcore stripped of the agenda, all the great things about metal and hard rock stripped of the unnecessary machismo. Vinyl comes in a full color gatefold sleeve and includes a coupon for a one-time download of high quality MP3's of the entire album! First pressing is limited to 500 copies on red vinyl.

Hacienda - Loud Is The Night CD (Alive) [ALIVE0089] $14.00
San Antonio's HACIENDA are Mexican-Americans who are obsessed with the Beach Boys, and the buzz surrounding the band may signal a rebirth of young rock'n'roll-with emphasis on the roll. Formed by cousins ABRAHAM VILLANUEVA (piano/vocals) and DANTE SCHWEBEL (guitar/vocals), together with Abraham's brothers JAIME (drums/vocals) and RENE (bass/vocals), this Mexican-American quartet blends a raw yet sophisticated style of pop music with harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and Beach Boys.

Home & Garden - Domesticated CD (Om) [OM298] $14.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-23-2008
***When writing, composing and performing the music on their debut album Domesticated, TIM KVASNOSKY and TIMOTHY SHUMAKER (collectively known as HOME & GARDEN) knew it would be very close to their hearts. Their work behind the scenes (as studio composers, musicians) for other dance artists have garnered numerous #1 Billboard dance hits. Some of these notable artists that have worked with the Home & Garden hit machine include: LUCY WOODWARD, COLETTE, ESTHERO, and DEBI NOVA. It only seemed fit that they bring in a few of these accomplices and others to contribute to their album such as DERRICK CARTER, MIC MURPHY, LISA SHAW, JENNIFER KARR and CHEZ DAMIER.

Horse Feathers - House With No Home CD (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS495] $13.25
Born and raised in Lewiston, Idaho, JUSTIN RINGLE has a natural affinity with the West. Its space, beauty, and nonconformity seem to be reflected in the music of his band HORSE FEATHERS, named after an expression he heard his grandfather use. In Ringle's hands, the common meaning of this expression comes to life: two things that can't possibly exist together are spun into a gossamer delicacy of music shot through with lyrical weight. Moving from Idaho to Portland, Oregon in 2004, Justin recorded some demos, one of which found its way to PETER BRODERICK (Norfolk & Western, Dolorean, and Loch Lomond), who offered to help record them properly. Later Peter's sister HEATHER BRODERICK joined the band on cello and backing vocals. Justin and Peter worked together to polish the material that became the group's first album, Words Are Dead, which was released on the local Lucky Madison label in 2006. After a year of touring the US in various incarnations, Horse Feathers signed to Kill Rock Stars and proceeded to record this, their second album. On it they have distilled their sound into a brilliant statement of minimalist Americana. Peter and Heather's precisely arranged strings step cautiously in and around Justin's haunting vocal lines, and the economy of music is also reflected in the lyrics-a few evocative phrases tell rich stories, each word weighted and delivered with careful purpose.

Howling Hex - Earth Junk CD (Drag City) [DC372] $13.25
RELEASE DATE: 09-23-2008
***The sixth new version of NEIL MICHAEL HAGERTY's (ROYAL TRUX) HOWLING HEX. Keplers Odd - Strena Seu de Nive Sexangula CD (Fractured Spaces) [09872] $18.25
From the darkest and coldest heart of Sweden comes the trio known as Keplers Odd, and FracturedSpacesRecords is pleased to announce that "Strena Seu de Nive Sexangula", their third CD album, is the first official release on the UK's newest quality underground music label. Featuring seven tracks of noisy yet subtly ambient guitar-driven sonic attacks, eerily redolent of the icy cold mysterious aurora-wrapped landscapes prevalent throughout Northern Europe, inhabited by creatures and monsters spawned from the myths & legends told around campfires over countless generations. Indeed, Keplers Odd have themselves spawned a monster of an album, creating textures and ambiences far beyond the normal run of over-driven guitar noisefests - yes, there is unalloyed power here, but there is also quiet subtlety, sinister atmospherics, and deeply dark occult moods. Ancient abandoned buildings, dark musty corridors, sinister forces at play - it's all here in stonking quantities!!

Kimya Dawson - Alphabutt LP (K Records) [KLP193] $13.25
A new album of children's music from "Juno-ized" folk star KIMYA DAWSON. Song titles include "The Alphabutt Song," "Seven Hungry Tigers," "Little Monster Babies," "Wiggle My Tooth" and "Pee Pee in the Potty," and collaborators include former Third Eye Blind guitarist Kevin Cadogan and a number of Dawson's other musical friends and their children. She has also been invited to participate in the Sesame Street television program.[3]

Klangmutationen - Schwarshagel CD (Utech Records) [UR019CD] $15.25
"Klangmutationen are a mystery. More could be said about what their music isn't than what it is. Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the underground experimentalists pierce the veils of Eastern and Western music. Recalling early sets on FMP as well as the Takayanagi/Abe axis of Japanese free music, Schwarzhagel is the sound of a spirit falling past its own life after death, forever."

Klangwart - Stadtlandfluss CD (Staubgold) [STAUB080CD] $16.00
After an eight year long studio hiatus, the Cologne- and Berlin-based electronic duo Klangwart (Markus Detmer and Timo Reuber) present Stadtlandfluss. Since 1999, Klangwart have been experimenting at their concerts with a limited pool of sounds and loops (developed and compiled by Timo). From this, the two generated the concert piece Stadtlandfluss in real-time, which they have been (re-)creating as a continuous experiment for many years. Thus, Stadtlandfluss is a "work in progress." Little of what's happening within the piece is determined. Dynamics range from "very quiet" (minimal, subtle, harmonious, finely-honed) to "extremely loud" (harsh, raw, pure energy). The piece is in a state of permanent flux, it changes from performance to performance depending on the acoustics of the place and the physical and mental state of Klangwart and the audience. No two concerts sound the same. With this piece, Klangwart allowed themselves the luxury of a long gestation. In 2007, Markus and Timo decided to capture the piece in their Cologne-based Inkiek-Studio and release it on an album of the same title. Although the music is split into seven tracks, it is still one continuous piece. Droning soundscapes mixed with restless electronics that envigorate the very act of listening.

Little Teeth - Child Bearing Man CD (Absolutely Kosher) [AK074] $12.75
Can a band be simultaneoulsy punk as it is folk? It would seem a contradiction in terms. If you think not, San Francisco's LITTLE TEETH will prove you wrong. The group, renowned for their energetic, often spastic live performances, equip themselves with instruments a plenty - everything from a banjo to the kitchen pot - yet bring little sense of self consciousness. Child Bearing Man is the kind of debut album you yearn for and recognize instantly once you find it. It's a record of growls, squeaks, complex wordplay, and melodic cascades, tied together with mandolin, banjo, accordion, rock and roll drums, cello, guitar and DANNIE MURRAY's (Vocals, Mandolin, Guitar, Accordion) wildcat snarl. Amazingly, out of a semblance of chaos comes harmony and raw beauty. Dannie's voice draws you in. It is a little scary, full of pain and world weariness. But what is most mesmerizing about this trio, rounded out by AMMO EISU (Vocals, Drums, Cello, Violin) and ANDY TISDALL (Vocals, Bass, Banjo, Electronics), is their transcendent synergy on stage. These three natural eccentrics lead the listener through tracks like "Japanese Candy" with desperate wails and "Between My Ears" with lyrical jabs, "you could cut your face six different ways but they'd all look the same to me". Together, Little Teeth's Child Bearing Man is commanding, emotionally and musically conflicted, utterly moving and shockingly original.

Liz Durrett - Outside Our Gates CD (Warm Electronic Recordings) [WRM120] $12.50
Produced and arranged by indie rock icon, ERIC BACHMANN (ARCHERS OF LOAD, FROOKED FINGERS, AZURE RAY), Outside Our Gates, represents a sonic leap forward for LIZ DURRETT. With Bachmann on board, Durrett's once spare, acoustic downbeats have been supplanted by a more textured and diverse orchestra of sounds. A virtual cacophony of instruments are here, including (but not limited to) tiny nylon-string guitars, backwards electric feedback loops, pizzicato violins, plucky cellos, upright bass, Wurlitzers, accordions, grand space pianos and marching drums. Bachmann's score somehow harmonizes these elements seamlessly to provide the perfect setting for Durrett's near dream-state writings and softly unsettling voice. Additional performances by VIC CHESNUTT, BIRAN CAUSEY (MAN OR ASTRO-MAN?), AMANDA KAPOUSOUZ (TIN CUP PHROPHETTE) and members of HAM1.

Low Lows - Shining Violence CD (Misra) [MSR049] $12.75
THE LOW LOWS (ex-PARLER & LILY) follow up their majestic 2006 debut album, Fire On The Bright Sky, with Shining Violence, an album of leaner, more hook-laden songs, which combines slow, dreamlike balladry with melodically distorted guitar, smashing, trashy drums, pedal steel, three-part vocal harmony and gospel-tinged, explosive climaxes. Highlights include a rousingly twangy cover of The Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Modern Romance" and "Five Ways I Didn't Die," which was a hugely popular radio session track last year ("absolutely beautiful... one of my favorite sessions of the year. Marvelous."- Mark Coles, 'The Beat', BBC Radio).

Magazine - Play CD (Virgin) [EMI87347CD] $11.50
"Formed by original Buzzcocks lead singer Howard Devoto, Magazine featured a line-up that included Robin Simon of Ultravox, and Barry Adamson, who became a key member of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds before launching a critically praised solo career. Magazine's combination of punk rock's nervous energy and art rock's experimentalism pushed the boundaries of music. Little wonder that this top post-punk group has been cited by today's top post-rock group, Radiohead, as an influence, with Radiohead even paying tribute by performing Magazine's 'Shot By Both Sides' during their Kid A live shows. But Magazine's influence doesn't stop there. It also includes fans like U2's The Edge, Blur, Maxïmo Park, Manus, Manic Street Preachers, Elastica, Morrissey (who covered 'A Song From Under The Floorboards'), and both Ministry and Peter Murphy who each covered 'The Light Pours Out Of Me.' Play is the only live document ever released by this legendary band. Recorded in Melbourne in 1980, it is a veritable live hits collection that also includes tasty extras such as their broodingly sinister cover version of the Sly & The Family Stone classic 'Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).'"

Mariola Brillowska & Felix Kubin - H.O.N.D. CD (A-musik) [A033CD] $14.50
"The first joint release of Hamburg-based all-around artists Felix Kubin (music, sounds) and Mariola Brillowska (lyrics, vocals). For Brillowska's 2006 theatre play of the same title, Kubin composed a soundtrack in order to mess up this infamous musical by twirling colorful little building bricks around in it. This then became an album in its own right, where constructivist orchestra- and plunderphonics-collages meet Gameboy-disco while melancholy-laden chansons rub against Weill/Eisler-like hymns."

Michael Byron - Dreamers Of Pearl CD (New World Records) [NW80679CD] $14.50
Performed by Joseph Kubera, piano. If youâ?Tve ever been to a strip club with Willie Winant, you must buy this CD! "Michael Byron (b. 1953) was a pupil of James Tenney, and later, of Richard Teitelbaum. The body of music he has composed over the past thirty years has been harmonically rich, rhythmically detailed, and increasingly virtuosic. Dreamers Of Pearl (2004-2005) evinces a sensitivity for the sound of the piano, a sensibility of extended playing/listening, and an interest in repetition and change through gradual and seemingly clandestine processes that transform and extend what we hear. Despite the lyrical (and, one might assume, programmatic) titles of the three movements ('Enchanting the Stars,' 'A Bird Revealing the Unknown to the Stars,' 'It Is the Night and Dawn of Constellations Irradiated'), Dreamers Of Pearl is a self-contained piece of pure ('absolute') music without obvious quotation or extra-musical references. Dreamers makes its case within a classically-balanced architectural design: three extended 'fast-slow-fast' movements of roughly equal length (263, 199, and 226 measures, respectively). The notation is meticulous, specific, precise. Much of the work's texture could be characterized as baroque, given the perpetual motion of the consistent two-voiced polyphonic layering -- some of it cryptically and distortedly imitative. Dreamers belongs to a rare class of recent piano music --monumental compositions of great length, beauty, and depth -- all self-consciously bound to tradition-oriented genres and their deeply ingrained structures, yet inventive and thrilling in ways that inspire a few brave pianists to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to these often mercilessly difficult pieces. Joseph Kubera, the tremendously gifted pianist for whom Dreamers Of Pearl was written, is one of those brave few."

Michna - Magic Monday CD (Ghostly International) [GI73] $10.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-23-2008
***NYC producer MICHNA (SFC, Bonde Do Role, Diplo) comes correct with skullsnap bets and playful electronics by the pound. "With each song, Michna pumps city grit into the watery graves of mixtapes past. Post-bass, ambient, whispers of acid jazz, it's all there. Magic Monday is an international biopic, but one that is both timeless and genreless."-Fader

Milosh - III CD (Plug Research) [PLG89] $10.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-23-2008
***MILOSH (Toronto, Canada) makes music for the mind, body and spirit. Introspective, intimate, sensual electro-folk steeped in perfumed melancholy and luscious romance. Combining beats, samples, guitars, strings and the most silken falsetto voice since prime-time Smokey Robinson, the third Milosh album III takes the listener on an emotional journey through an exquisitely beautiful musical landscape. A classically trained cellist, jazz aficionado, Neil Young fan and devotee of left-field electronica, the Toronto-based MICHAEL MILOSH does not fit conventional pop categories-and nor does his music.

Mirror Mirror - Society For The Advancement Of Inflammatory Consciousness CD (Cochon) [COCH032] $13.00
Brooklyn-based MIRROR MIRROR's first full-length album is a schizophrenic exploration into the multiple personalities and points of views of the (fictional?) Society, as well as aspiring followers, runaways, hustlers, partygoers, and music producers. The compositions are lush and complex, blending folky sing-alongs, sinister rock songs, cult lullabies, robotic choral pieces, and meditative interludes. Mirror Mirror has earned a reputation for its curious blend of music and performance, as well as its polymorphous membership. Chief songwriters DAVID RILEY and RYAN LUCERO met in 2003 and quickly recruited percussionist MATT BAGDANOFF, guitarist JILL KAUFMAN, and a rotating cast of friends, performers and guest musicians. Their unpredictable live shows incorporate theater, visual art, video, design, and even food.

Momus - Joemus CD (American Patchwork) [AMPATCH08] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-17-2008
The new Momus album, Joemus, is a collaboration between the veteran electronic vaudevillian and Joe Howe, a young Glasgow breakcore musician known for his work with Gay Against You and Germlin. Asked, back in 2007, to do a cover version for a limited edition box set called Recovery, Momus called on the young Scot's services to make a cover of David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes, which turned out "not so much a pop song as a ping pong match between Coco the Clown and Major Tom... a series of satistfying thwack and plock and boiiiiiing noises," according to Momus. The Bowie cover isn't on Joemus, but the Nintendo Glam Rock feel -- and the odd noises -- persist. The pair worked over the internet, then spent several weeks together in Berlin fine-tuning the results. The Joemus album sounds like the hits of 70s Scottish glam rock sensations The Bay City Rollers played on 80s amusement arcade equipment. Joe's frenetic, ADD-addled jams get turned by Momus into folk jigs, but the fast numbers alternate with tenderly morose slowies, covers of Cliff Richard ballads and Ryuichi Sakamoto croons. Then it's back to the beats-and-edits frenzy, and tales of horror, from Dracula (a duet with Groopie Kyoka Kyoka) to Ichabod Crane. The result may be the most satisfying pop album Momus has ever made -- but only if your definition of pop tends to the edgy, jumpy, fresh, and weird.

Nadja - Trembled CD (Utech Records) [UR024CD] $15.25
"Trembled has returned, triumphantly. Released by Utech Records [046] in the summer of 2006 on limited CD-R. The principal live recordings from Toronto have been remixed/remastered and include a rare performance of Swans 'No Cure for the Lonely.' The core of the release, though, is 'Tremble,' a cascading improvisation of drift and atmospherics revealed to audiences on an occasional basis. The track is telling of the fluidity with which Nadja create and why the band has become so highly regarded. 'Breakpoint' and 'Corrasion' complete the set. Exclusive material has been added in 'Stays Demons' and a second version of 'Tremble' recorded by Scott Slimm in Philadelphia. Illustration by Justin Bartlett. The ultimate document of Nadja at their most electric and empyreal. Edition of 900."

New Year - New Year CD (Touch And Go) [TG324] $13.75
Over the last seventeen years, in the 1990s with BEDHEAD and for the last decade with THE NEW YEAR, MATT and BUBBA KADANE have done all they could to avoid feeling rushed in making a record. Records need time to be coherent, and coherence-even thin thematic coherence-is what makes records worth more than a mere collection of songs. The most recent payoff of this approach is The New Year's newest self-titled release, the culmination of four years of song-writing and a year of recording. Lyrically, these ten songs address the interlocked themes of lost time, frustrated desire, and the need for others. Although musically these may be the band's most varied songs-for a band that made innovative use of three guitars, almost half the songs here are built around the piano-it is the careful sequence of these songs that brings the story the lyrics tell together. Even the lack of a record title seems deliberate in suggesting that this is the culmination of everything this band has tried to achieve.

Nightmares On Wax - Thought So... CD (Warp) [WRP159] $13.25
The venerable NIGHTMARES ON WAX return with Thought So..., a sun-drenched collection of dub and heavy drums arriving just in time to wrap up summer madness. After paving the way for soul-minded beat-smiths like Madlib and Flying Lotus, this latest LP is another important step in an already iconic career. Buoyant and supremely catchy, Thought So... is another skillful combo of advanced production and vintage groove. In short, the record gives fans everything they have come to expect from Nightmares On Wax.

Okkervil River - Stand Ins CD (Jagjaguwar) [JAG124] $13.25
The band's fifth full-length, The Stand-Ins is another stunner of a record. As the skeletal cover art suggests this new collection of songs connects us to its predecessor while continuing, echoing, and extending the OKKERVIL story.

Parenthetical Girls - Entanglements CD (Tomlab) [TOM120] $14.00
PARENTHETICAL GIRLS' third album and first for Tomlab is an eleven song linear narrative of moral ambiguities, set to an elaborately orchestrated olio of modern classical and timeworn, traditional American pop forms. They borrow from the string swept sentimentality of Van Dyke Parks, Scott Walker, Jack Nitzsche, and Burt Bacharach, then introduce the influence of more formidable strains of modern classical composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Philip Glass, and Gavin Bryars. The result is a confluence of cerebral and sentimental disparities; sensually unsettling. Orchestral pop, crooned and cooed in falsetto.

Pedal - Pedal CD (Staubgold) [STAUB083CD] $16.00
Pedal is comprised of duo improvisations for two pianos by Australians Chris Abrahams (The Necks) and Simon James Phillips. While Abrahams is inspired by jazz, be-bop, hard-bop, free-jazz, rock 'n roll, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, improvisation, Terry Riley, and dare I say... Little Richard, Phillips feels much more at home with the concert hall, opera house, chamber works, Grieg, Janacek, Feldman, Ives, old-school, new-school, classically-trained pianist, conductor, pedagogue. The music: What are they thinking? These guys are doing a recording of acoustic piano music in this day and age?! Just when you think two grand pianos and four hands have nothing to say in this 21st century, you're wrong, because these are two brilliant minds. Every single piece of music on this recording was fully improvised. To borrow a phrase from Ornette Coleman in relation to his view about the state of music in general: "Beauty is a rare thing. Well, here is that rare thing.

Pidgeon - Might As Well Go Eat Worms CD (Absolutely Kosher) [AK059] $12.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-23-2008
***Four years after their From Gutter With Love debut, the San Francisco outfit return from the underground with their sophomore release, Might as Well Go Eat Worms, an album which showcases the bands undeniable maturation in sound. PIDGEON has since perfected upon their loud, quiet, loud signature form, finding balance between beauty and destruction. "California is for F**kers" opens with catchy, rhythmic riffs and precision drumming before giving way to an onslaught of distorted, crunching, sludgy guitars offset with semi-sweet pop vocals. Throughout the record MICHA FOLEY's (former member of Bay Area hardcore legends USED NAKED BLOODY) bone rattling screams are assuaged by VAL IWAMASA's angelic voice (think Ninna Person of The Cardigans meets Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead). On Might As Well Eat Worms Pidgeon has shed all remaining sense of innocence and emerged leaner, stronger, and ready to devour you whole.

Pivot - O Soundtrack My Heart CD (Warp) [WRPCD166] $14.00
PIVOT are an Australian trio made up of DAVE MILLER and brothers RICAHRD and LAURENZ PIKE. If that last name is in any way familiar, it may well be for his membership of pioneering jazz/electronica trio TRIOSK (who broke up last year), though it might also be for his contributions to SAVATH + SAVALAS and FLANGER. O Soundtrack My Heart is Pivot's debut album though it's the result of a lengthy maturation as the band formed back in the late '90s.

Plinth/Textile Ranch - The Rest, I Leave To The Poor CD (Make Mine Music) [MMM051] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 10-20-2008
A postal collaboration between Plinth (Mike Tanner) and Textile Ranch (Glen Johnson of Piano Magic). This 44 minute piece may structurally resemble a classical composition - divided as it is into several interlocking stanzas - but it's difficult to place it comfortably within the realm of modern music. If anything, 'The Rest....' evokes the otherwordly, fantastical obsessions of the Victorians (Conan Doyle, Lear, Grandville, Wellcome, etc) through means of meticulously manipulated instrumentation, samples and voice. Plinth, of course, is no stranger to Victoriana. In 2007, the Dorset-based multi-instrumentalist and founder of the Dorset Paeans record label released, 'Plays Victorian Machine Music' - an EP made up entirely from sounds generated by antiquated parlor machines and music boxes. A further full-length Plinth album, 'Music For Smalls Lighthouse' will be released on the Current 93-associated, Durtro Jnana label by the end of this year. Tanner has also played as a member of Pantaleimon, Directorsound, United Bible Studies and with Sharron Kraus live. Glen Johnson founded the Anglo-French "ghost-rock" unit, Piano Magic, in 1996 and since then has released over 30 records on a multitude of different labels, from 4AD to Morr Music to Important Records, including collaborations with Low, Vashti Bunyan, Cornershop and Tarwater. In 2004, his debut album as Textile Ranch, 'Bird Heart In Wool,' a portfolio of abstract, melodic electronica, was released on the Very Friendly label. A further Textile Ranch album will see the light of day in Spring 2009. Tanner and Johnson may have met on the internet but their collaboration here relied greatly on Her Majesty's Royal Mail service, swapping files by post, adding, subtracting, remoulding, magnifying found sounds and home recordings. The overall effect could be imagined as the sonic depiction of the life and times of an impoverished Victorian clerk, from birth to death. Clattering typewriter keys are sewn into this rich tapestry amongst the lolloping waves of the grimy Thames, divine voices, rusty acoustic guitars, wheezing harmoniums, boiling kettles, mocking crows, funeral drums, penny arcades and much, much more. Angele David-Guillou, a regular contributor to Piano Magic recordings and chanteuse with her own project, Klima (s/t album on Peacefrog, 2007) generously guests on vocals and other instruments here, whilst the mysterious Ms Autumn Grieve adds further voicings. This one-off collaboration marks the 51st release for Make Mine Music, the pioneering British independent label that is owned, financed and maintained by its artists. A special label compilation and selective concerts around the UK will litter the next few months. 'The Rest, I Leave To The Poor' comes as a strictly ltd edition (1000 copies), letter-pressed sleeve of recycled chipboard with red metallic ink finish.

Quintessence - Indweller CD (Esoteric Recordings) [ECLEC2089CD] $18.50
"Esoteric Recordings add to their recent reissue of Quintessence's first album for RCA Records with this, their final vinyl outing from 1972. Hailing from the heart of London's 'alternative underground' society in Notting Hill, Quintessence were inspired by Eastern philosophy and spiritual teachings creating a unique fusion of psychedelia, jazz and ethnic rock. Indweller saw them continue their musical explorations in this vein, creating a classic of the Progressive / Acid Rock genre. The Esoteric remastered edition was produced from the original analogue master tapes and features a booklet with liner notes and new essay."

Rafter - Sweaty Magic CD (Asthmatic Kitty) [AKR043] $6.50
Inspired by influences as diverse as Guided By Voices, R Stevie Moore, Fela Kuti, Lightning Bolt, Fushitsusha, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Cody Chestnutt. "It's all about the overwhelming rad feeling of going out dancing with my hot fiancee-- techno, Prince, electro, hip-hop-- sweating and smiling on the dance floor!" --Rafter Roberts.

Rahim - Laughter CD (Pretty Activity) [PA010] $13.25
RAHIM have always existed with one foot in and one foot out of New York City. While the provinciality of their Long Island roots allowed for a unique musical direction, their proximity and relevance to New York City added an appropriate dose of urbane awareness and ambition. That combination of sound and vision produced their debut, Ideal Lives, to strong critical praise from publications like Pitchfork and Spin and a slew of national touring. Their long-cultivated and irreproducible musical vision is on full display on their second full-length Laughter-a record of tense melodies, expansive synth textures and restless percussive energy that comes off like the soundtrack to urban living on the brink of apocalypse. Received a 7.6 rating in Pitchfork.

Robert Haigh - Written on Water CD (Crouton) [09871] $14.75
In the early 80s, Robert Haigh released a handful of recordings under his own name, as well as the monikers Sema, Fote, and Truth Club. His atmospheric piano, guitar and sound arrangements were in a class of their own, but ranked among the quality level of other experimentalists such as Nurse With Wound, Current 93, and The Hafler Trio; coincidentally with whom he also collaborated with. These recordings quickly developed a cult following and even today are scarce, some fetching high prices on the collector's market.

Haigh departed this work in the 90s, moving into an entirely different sound under the moniker Omni Trio. Signing with the esteemed electronic label Moving Shadow, Haigh became highly regarded as one of the originators of drum and bass music, although his style during this time continued to reflect his use of fluid melody and space.

And now, Crouton is absolutely delighted to present his newest work, Written on Water. Within these songs, listeners will hear nods to the distinct melodicism of his early Valentine Out of Season-era solo piano work, while also referencing like-minded composers such as Eric Satie, Steve Reich, and Harold Budd. Gone are the drum machines of his 90s work, yet this new music is as much about rhythm as it is about melody.

Sascha Funke - Watergate 02 CD (Watergate Records) [WG002CD] $16.00
This is the second Watergate mix CD installment. Situated by the river Spree, known for its first-rate line-ups of international talent and, of course, its famous wall-to-wall LED dancefloor installation, the Watergate Club in Berlin has quickly become one of the world's leading dance music clubs. Only five years after its official opening, the club now goes a step further and releases a mix CD series delivering only the finest DJ mixes by some of club's most exiting residents and guests. With the focus being put not only on the music but also on the packaging and design, this series will quickly become a truly sought-after collector's item and will surely stand out in the flood of mediocre music and mixes that often dilute the market. Sascha Funke is an honest-to-goodness Berliner, and he has played a significant role in molding and forming the Berlin techno scene since the mid-'90s. Now, after various stops along the way, he has found his home and a residency at Watergate. Sascha delivers a mix that is second to none in its musical diversity. At the same time, his personality shines throughout the entire project and reflects his self-perception as a DJ. In addition to current tracks and remixes, the mix is interlaced with carefully-chosen jewels and rarities from years past. The mix was recorded at the Watergate Club on a warm August night, using records of various ages. Any and all cracklings and sounds from the needle touching down come from the use of vinyl records, and are deliberate and desired -- an integral part of the sound of an authentic DJ mix. Including artists such as Nathan Fake, Four Tet, Ellen Allien, Miss Kittin, Maus & Stolle, Zander VT, Minilogue & KAB, Wighnomy Brothers, Dave Aju, Sten, Modal, The Mole, Sascha Funke, Tobias Thomas & Superpitcher, DJ Koze, Closer Musik, Patrice Scott, Milch, and Acid Jesus.

Shaky Hands - Lunglit CD (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS498] $13.25
In their hometown of Portland, Oregon, THE SHAKY HANDS are the one band that virtually everyone agrees on. Respected throughout the underground for their basement show origins and complete lack of ego, critically adored for their instantly recognizable, earthy-meets-explosive sound and loved by the general populace for putting on really, really good shows-they represent Portland, one of America's best music cities, as well as any contemporary indie rock act. NICK DELFFS' vibrato-infused, homespun vocals and bobbing acoustic guitar strums complement COLIN ANDERSON's organic, driving percussion while JEFF LEHMAN's own guitar rockouts remind listeners that The Shaky Hands were, after all, a rock band.

Stargazer's Assistant, The - Shivers And Voids CD (Utech Records) [UR018CD] $15.25
"David J. Smith (Guapo, Miasma & The Carousel Of Dead Horses) releases a second set of recordings as The Stargazer's Assistant. Following The Other Side of the Island on Aurora Borealis, Shivers and Voids is a union of instrument, voice and tape. A soundtrack left waiting for the right film to accompany it through the dark. Sweeping, intricate, sometimes ominous, yet always exuding a warmth of emotion. Ancient forests, vast plains, billowing clouds, rusted metal hulks, wet rock walls, lights flickering in darkness. The Stargazer's Assistant reveals all this to us."

Thomas Lehn/Marcus Schmickler - Navigation im Hypertext CD (A-musik) [A034CD] $14.50
"Lehn and Schmickler 's 1st recording BART is considered one of the best synth improv albums ever made. Since BART, dating back to 2000, the duo has toured frequently through Europe, Japan and the USA.This double-release features some of the best performances the duo recorded over the course of 15 live concerts. A brilliant amalgam of the two musicians' strengths, Navigation im Hypertext utilizes both improvisation and studio post-production techniques to create a lasting work, combining the feel of a classic composed electronic music record with the raw, crackling energy of a free improv-session. Exciting and destabilizing, Navigation im Hypertext will surprise even the most hardcore Lehn fan: intertwined with Schmickler's, his art never sounded this rich. If anything, Navigation im Hypertext takes electronic improvisation one step further. The arrangements range in tone from softer clusters of sound to more abrasive movements. Comes in digipack, CD-only release."

Morning Way by Trader Horne has achieved legendary status alongside other classic examples of the genre such as the album by Mellow Candle (also available on Esoteric). Featuring original Fairport Convention vocalist Judy Dyble and singer-songwriter Jackie McAuley, Morning Way was an early release on Pye Records' progressive imprint Dawn. Although selling limited numbers upon release, the album has acquired mythical status over the years, thanks to the album's masterful compositions and arrangements."

Various Artists - Dark Was The Night CD (Deep Sea) [SEAD8002CD] $16.00
...A Tribute To The Music Of Blind Willie Johnson. Originally released in 2003. Sometimes it seems that the world is filling up with tribute and compilation records, yet the folk tradition reminds us that songs wither and die if they're not performed, and that songs from the past constantly surprise us with their relevance for our contemporary world. Blind Willie Johnson, the great Texas gospel slide guitarist, produced a remarkably intense body of spiritual music. He was born 100 years ago. Before the Great Depression, he recorded many sides for Columbia Records, but by the end of his life, was performing on street corners and at church benefits. This collection of specially-commissioned performances is drawn from a wide variety of the world's finest contemporary roots performers: Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin, Martin Simpson, 3 Mississippistaphas 3, Helen Watson & Heather Greenbank, Julie Murphy & Richard Llewellyn, Mike Seeger & Alexia Smith, The Henrys with Mary Margaret O'Hara, Ginny Clee, Bob Copper & the Latest English Country Blues Band, The Positively Testcard, Peter Stampfel & Gary Lucas, and Mike Cooper. Each musician has taken a piece from Johnson's repertoire and added their own signature interpretation. All profits are being donated to schools and charities working with disadvantaged children.

Various Artists - Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol. 1 CD (Eskimo) [ESK502410] $16.00
The Eskimo label presents the first volume in a series dedicated to cosmic Balearic beats. This trans-global intergalactic funk odyssey starts with Stratus' disco-fied, cowbell ringin'. The duo is comprised of Mat Anthony and Martin Jenkins, respected producers and remixers who have re-worked the music of Serge Gainsbourg, Kylie, Playgroup and Calexico, amongst others. We then hook up with Phoreski aka Neil Dunn who also runs his own Fat Fuk Records while having his disco-cake and eating it as Richard Gateaux. Coyote then get in on the action as veteran DJs Timm Sure and Ampo, right before Solar Disco label-head Maelstrom presents his exclusive cosmic disco vision. Homerun sees the guitar-playing, electronic producer Laurent Grauwels hark to his '80s roots, while Bottin takes it back with his blend of '70s disco, early '80s electro, and horror-disco. Rubber Room (aka Disco Devil label runners Skinny Joey and Ferre) deliver one of the standout tracks on the compilation with the superb Italo-infected "Cockroach" and Massimiliano Pagliara continues the strong Italo influence with his collection of analogue synths and drum machines. Spektrum are one of the more well-known names popping up on this exclusive compilation and here we see DJ Cosmo get to grips with the gorgeous vocal refrain of "Fit Together." Then we have Lullabies In The Dark get their lips around an ice cold, staccato funk-filled number while Igor Skafar aka Ichisan gets his retro-futuristic-space-funk together. Things round off in fine style as the fast-rising duo of Sasha Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor aka In Flagranti present some rolling disco-funk against the stunning, slo-mo, chord-laden funk of Lovelock. Roll down the windows, turn the stereo up and let the cosmic Balearic beats flood in.

Volcano! - Paperwork CD (Leaf) [BAY63] $13.25
Arriving in 2005 with an exclamatory bang, sporting an electrifying live set and an audacious debut album in Beautiful Seizure, VOLCANO! cast an eye over the parameters of rock and exponentially expanded them into unknown regions. After a two-year hiatus, the Chicago trio strides onward with a new bounce in their step, and a new cohesive flow to their songs. Paperwork is leaner and more considered than before; nearly everything begins with simple pop structures which are subsequently torn apart. The ragged, feverish dissonance and bright spaciousness of AARON WITH's guitar has much in common with Deerhoof or Dirty Projectors, but this time, more attention is focused on the beats and rhythms. Lead-off single "Africa Just Wants To Have Fun" displays much of this febrile energy within a razor-sharp satire of certain rock stars who purport to save the world with dubious, self-serving rhetoric. On the self-deprecating "Slow Jam," With's vocals are more deliberate, more soulful than before, with echoes of classic Stevie Wonder surfacing. "Fairy Tale" describes his disillusionment with his experience of the non-profit sector, while "Sweet Tooth" tackles his conscience on the ambiguous issue of consumerism and promoting social and environmental responsibility. No exports outside the US.

Woven Hand - Ten Stones CD (Sounds Familyre) [SF20] $13.25
"Sounds Familyre Records is quite the comfy home for unique musicians. The label was founded by Daniel Smith of Danielson/Danielson Famile fame, and Sufjan Stevens has released music on the imprint. David Eugene Edwards, the musical force at the center of Wovenhand (and formerly 16 Horsepower), shares a lot of traits with Smith and Stevens. His music mines deeply emotional territory that sometimes delves into religious matters, and sounds lush and gorgeous. Ten Stones is made up of, yes, ten songs of such singular-minded musicality."

Yoshie Fruchter - Pitom CD (Tzadik) [TZ8128] $14.50
"Avant-garde rock meets the Jewish tradition in Pitom, a shredding Jewish instrumental band led by Yoshie Fruchter. Born in D.C. and now living in Brooklyn, Yoshie combines influences from Frank Zappa, Sonic Youth and Masada into a rocking band performing catchy, hooky compositions that both pay tribute to and challenge its heritage. Recorded and mixed at the studio of legendary musical terrorist Bill Laswell, Pitom is a hard-edged new addition to the legacy of Radical Jewish Culture."

Young Widows - Old Wounds CD (Temporary Residence) [TRR138] $13.25
The three members of YOUNG WIDOWS emerged from the dissolution of BREATHER RESIST with a new vision steeped in dark, brooding grooves and moody post-punk. From the reverb-drenched inspiration of Regulator Watts/Hoover to the bass and drums lock-groove perfected by Shellac and the Jesus Lizard, Young Widows gladly wears influences on its sleeve without sounding dated.

Jam - Transglobal Unity Express DVD (Pinnacle) [PPCR004] $17.75

This DVD shows the raw power, emotion and atmosphere of early gigs from a band that changed a legion of young people. This concert presentation was originally released on VHS in 1985 but never available on DVD. Bernard Szajner - Superficial Music CD (Boutique) [BOUCD6618] $16.50
RELEASE DATE: 01-12-2009
LTM presents the first in a series of expanded CD reissues by visionary French electronic composer Bernard Szajner. Originally released in late 1981, Superficial Music incorporates elements of his previous album Visions of Dune played backwards at half speed and treated digitally, as well as the three part suite Oswiecim, an imagining of the Holocaust informed by the experience of his own family. Sometimes harmonious, sometimes unsettling, Szajner's music is never less than extraordinary. Reviews rated the album highly: 'Superficial? No, superlative music! If you care at all for soundscapes that eschew cheap escapes, this album will do far more than tickle the surface of you mind' (NME); 'A significant success - a wholly involving and frequently disturbing blanket of continually contorting synthetic sound' (Melody Maker). The expanded 65 minute CD features three previously unreleased bonus tracks, recorded in 1982. Bernard Szajner biography: Born in Grenoble in 1944, Szajner first made his name as a lighting designer for Magma, Gong and the Who. Having invented new instruments such as the laser harp used by Jean-Michel Jarre, Szajner began to record experimental, conceptual albums of his own, including Visions of Dune (1979), Some Deaths Take Forever (1980), Superficial Music (1981) and Brute Reason (1983). He has also recorded as Zed, and was one half of The (Hypothetical) Prophets. Since the mid 80s, polymath Szajner has worked as a painter, film maker and theatre director. Also available: Some Deaths Take Forever (BOUCD 6620).

Charles Bukowski - Underwater Poetry Festival CD (Roman Photo) [TEMCD010CD] $12.00
Recorded in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 5, 1974; produced for release by Charles Potts. "This never-before released recording of a 1974 poetry reading by world famous 20th century American poet Charles Bukowski (1922-1993) is one you'll have to stuff in your CD player as soon as you get it. In 1974, the intrepid Bukowski journeyed from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City to give a featured reading at the Underwater Poetry Festival, along with Alta, Ricardo Sanchez, and Andy Clausen. The recording of the reading given in the social work auditorium of the University of Utah survived in the archives of the Reverend Sherm W. Clow, President at the time of the renowned Litmus Inc., producer of the festival. It includes more than 20 poems with a table of contents, some introductory and closing patter by MC Charles Potts, and a reproduction of the poster from the UPF is the menu on the CD. Bukowski was just beginning to achieve the lasting fame that would come to him in the next two decades. Hear the man at his droll and noteworthy best."

Chris Wood - Vulcan CD (Esoteric Recordings) [ECLEC2079CD] $18.50
"Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of the album Vulcan by the late Chris Wood, founder member of the legendary Traffic and flautist and saxophonist extraordinaire. Recorded just after the demise of Traffic in 1974, Vulcan was begun for Island Records but shelved in 1978. The sessions featured contributions from Steve Winwood and members of The Wailers, along with a live recording of Traffic performing the title track in 1974, but due to a change in musical fashion with the advent of Punk, the album failed to see the light of day. Island boss Chris Blackwell returned the tapes to Chris Wood in the late 1970's. Following Chris' untimely death in 1983 the tapes were passed on to his sister, Stephanie. Now, 25 years later, and after three years of research and preparation, Esoteric have pieced together the sessions in co-operation with Stephanie Wood to bring you Vulcan."

Edith Sitwell/William Walton/Lord Berners - Follies & Façades CD (El Records) [ACMEM157CD] $15.00
"Edith Sitwell and Lord Berners did more than most to dispel the nationalistic insularity that dominated so much English literature and music in the decade that followed the First World War. The work that brought the Sitwells their greatest fame -- and notoriety -- was Façade, an entertainment that combined Edith's idiosyncratic verse with the music of the young William Walton. With Cocteau s Parade the obvious precedent, the family delighted in creating a first-class scandal in literature and music . Here, the 1929 premiere recording with Constant Lambert appears alongside that made in 1954 with Peter Pears; by all accounts, the only performances of which Edith really approved. Façade owed its existence to the support and encouragement of, among others, Lord Berners. Considered by Stravinsky to be the most gifted composer of his generation, Berners was famously eccentric (A fine biography Lord Berners -The Last Eccentric by Mark Amory was recently published), a diplomat, an accomplished writer, painter, composer and missionary of the arts. As with the Sitwell's, his idealism, openness to new ideas and willingness to embrace humor made for a peculiarly British avant garde. The Berners piece featured in this edition is one of his most widely regarded; the suite from the ballet The Triumph of Neptune which was commissioned by Serge Diagilev in 1926."

Franco Tamponi - Mondo Sexy Di Notte CD (Dagored) [RED184] $17.00
FRANCO TAMPONI's splendid soundtrack to Mino Loy's (aka Donan J. Lee) 1962 original 'shock-u-mentary' Mondo Sexy di Notte (aka Mondo Sexuality), which portrayed cabaret shows from all over the world (although many of the locations are thought to have been reconstructed in the studio), presenting an exotic sensuality that once upon a time represented a form of transgression in the film world, reserved for an adult audience only. Also, for the younger listeners perhaps it will be surprising not to hear the sound of any electronic instrument here-but this was the era when the orchestra reigned supreme. Lovingly restored from the original session tapes recorded in studios in Rome and Milan, where music written by the legends of the Italian film industry became the soundtracks to the great Italian films of the day.

Frankie Dymon Jr. - Let It Out: Poems In Word And Music CD (Fachmann) [GERMAN941153] $16.50
"From 1971. Incredible Kraut/funk meeting of US expatriate and the cream of the German Rock scene: Achim Reichel, Conny Plank, Wolfgang 'Zabba' Lindner (drums, ex-Wind), Peter Hecht (piano, from Lucifer's Friend) and many others. Dymon, probably better known for his role as 'Black Power Militant' in Godard's Sympathy For The Devil and as director of the super-obscure Death May Be Your Santa Claus, mellifluously rants on subjects such as past sexual conquests, racial injustice, and pot-smoking etiquette. First-ever reissue, lyric booklet included."

Gordon Mumma - Music For Solo Piano (1960-2001) 2CD (New World Records) [NW80686CD] $27.75
Performed by Daan Vandewalle, piano. "Gordon Mumma (b. 1935) is best known for his pioneering role in the development and evolution of electronic and live-electronic music. The piano has played a significant if underestimated role in his career. With a few notable exceptions, this collection by pianist Daan Vandewalle marks the first commercial recordings of Mumma's music for solo piano composed over more than forty years. It provides an important new perspective on his work as a composer. The spare textures, irregular rhythms, and pungent dissonances of Bartók's Mikrokosmos echo in Mumma's piano music. The keyboard music of Bach and Haydn, of Schoenberg, Webern, Ives, Ernst Krenek, Carl Ruggles, and Ruth Crawford also shaped his early piano ideal, as did the experience of superb recitalists in Detroit and Ann Arbor, including Walter Gieseking, Dame Myra Hess, and Glenn Gould. The works of the early 1960s were written for the concert hall, but much of the later piano music is more personal -- the solitary dreams of a long musical life. And like dreams it filters memories -- of music of the distant and recent past, of artistic friendships and loved ones living or dead -- to create a uniquely contemporary approach to the piano. In contrast to Mumma's epic electronic works, his keyboard music is predominantly poetic in its brevity, concentration, and psychological depth. It is music of high specific gravity, each piece a microcosm of finely etched ideas that unfold without literal repetition. For Daan Vandewalle, it is also 'music of dialogue' that communicates -- both with the listener and within itself -- through its deep concern with sound, phrasing, color, dynamic range, and rhetorical nuance."

Hardin and York - The World's Smallest Big Band CD (Esoteric Recordings) [ECLEC2090CD] $18.50
"Keyboard player and vocalist Eddie Hardin and drummer Pete York had first played together in the second incarnation of the Spencer Davis Group, following Steve Winwood's departure to form Traffic. In 1969 Hardin & York struck out on their own to form a highly unique duo utilizing powerful Hammond Organ work and percussion to record a series of wonderful albums in the Progressive / Jazz Rock vein. The World's Smallest Big Band was their second album and featured recordings made at Olympic Studios and material recorded live at De Lane Lea studios in front of a small audience. A popular attraction in Europe, the record remains a noted highlight of their career. This Esoteric Recordings reissue includes two bonus tracks."

Ishikawa Akira & Count Buffalo - Uganda: Afurikan Rokku no Yoake CD (Tiliqua) [TILAR5012CD] $28.25
"The start of a new series focusing on lost and obscure sonic treasures birthed out of the underbelly of Japan's New Rock revolution during the period 1969-1978 is spearheaded by the long announced reissue of one of the rarest discs to seep out of that seedy incestuous scene. Ishikawa Akira & Count Buffalo's Uganda - Afurikan Rokku no Yoake originally saw the light of day on February 5th, 1972 on Toshiba Records as part of their '4 Channel Q.M. Sound' series but quickly sank into the depths obscurity, making that only a handful of copies were actually sold while the remaining stock was withdrawn due to very depressing sales and eventually melted down and destroyed. The disc remained a well kept secret for all these years and only a small circle of die-hard music lovers have ever seen an actual original copy, making it these days one of the most treasured and hunted down Japanese rock artifacts. A couple of years ago a bootleg LP edition of the LP came out, sadly sounding quite mediocre but nevertheless rejuvenating a new awareness for the album. Still rumors as to who were the actual performers on the album floated around freely since the group was simply listed as Count Buffalo with no detailed breakdown of who actually played on the album, and as a result there has been much fevered speculation over the years. Therefore, Tiliqua Records thought it wise to release this sonic gem properly, hunt down the license, unraveled the legal entanglements, acquired access to the original mastertapes and subsequently also taking on the quest to track down the actual players involved. So now, with this fully authorized reissue we can finally reveal the full line-up or the key players involved and add some insight into the record's background thanks to the kind participation of Uganda's composer Mr. Muraoka Takeru. Musically speaking, Ishikawa Akira & Count Buffalo's Uganda - Afurikan Rokku no Yoake is vicious psychedelic whirlwind monster of a disc where primitive Afro-spiritual and tribal ethnic percussive blow-outs cross-pollinate with lysergic New Rock fuzz-a-delic dementia and stirring up enough dust and boulders like two-barreled guns coming out of the demon hole. Still, Uganda is more than just that and although it is deceptively intense, it is simultaneously casual in feel yet meticulous in its musical detail and lyrical economy. And seen in retrospect I can now proclaim that this album stands shoulder to shoulder with the best records of that golden era and it was one of Japan's 1970's underground scene's defining moments. In short it is a totally lethal slide that does not fail to create an arresting listening experience. As is the case with all of Tiliqua Record's releases, this one is also crafted out with meticulous care and eye for detail. The CD comes housed in a miniature version of the actual slim cased LP box set, complete with obi and extensive 8-paged Japanese/ English liner notes, illustrated with some archival footage. One time only very limited press, housed in a sturdy hard card mini-LP styled slim box set styled gatefold jacket. Digitally remastered from the original master tapes and graced with faithfully reproduced artwork (although slightly adapted for the single CD box set version) and obi. One time limited press due to the nature of the box set jacket."

Jeanne Moreau - The Immortal CD (El Records) [ACMEM156CD] $15.00
"If there was a single actor who captured the very essence of the French New Wave, it was Jeanne Moreau. In Truffaut's groundbreaking Jules et Jim she achieved global recognition, giving a performance of spellbinding intensity as the mercurial Catherine, who becomes tragically entwined in the lives of two friends who both love her. During the film, she was required to perform the song, 'Tourbillon de la Vie' ('Whirlpool of Life'), which Truffaut felt encapsulated the spirit of his masterpiece. Her recording went on to become a massive radio hit and prompted the idea of recording a full LP under the auspices of producer Jacques Canetti. The award-winning albums that transpired in 1963 and 1966 comprise this edition and feature songs written by Cyrus Bassiak (Serge Rezvani). The debut in collaboration with George Delerue and the legendary Ward Swingle, its elaborate orchestrations giving way on the sequel to more intimate and sensuous settings with guitar and bass. Jules & Jim apart, cinematic highlights include Chimes at Midnight and The Immortal Story for Orson Welles; Diary of a Chambermaid (Luis Bunuel) and for Louis Malle The Lift to The Scaffold and Viva Maria in which she co-starred with Brigitte Bardot."

Joe Maneri & Peter Dolger - Peace Concert (1964) CD (Atavistic) [ALP267] $13.75
A long-lost '60s treasure from the East Coas rescued and produced by KEN VANDERMARK's father, STU! The Peace Concert, as performed in 1964 by living legend JOE MANERI (alto) and PETER DOLGER (drums) has finally been exhumed and properly buffed for public consumption. This never-before released recording has been mastered from the original tapes, and includes an in-depth interview with Boston's elder statesman of improv, conducted by Stu Vandermark. For those caught unawares, Mr. Maneri is the father of violinist MAT MANERI, and is highly regarded as one of the true pioneers of the "language" of the alto saxophone.

Michael Anton And Amok - Jesus Makes You High CD (Fachmann) [GERMAN941152] $16.50
"From 1971. A very strange 'paycheck' project for Conny Plank and Achim Reichel's Gorilla Musik production company. Wonderland-esque German rock with heavy Christian lyrics! A.R. is nowhere to be seen on the sleevenotes but his fingerabdrücke are everywhere. You can make up your own punchline for the album title. First-ever reissue includes full lyrics and two bonus tracks from their only 7" release."

Minami Masato (w/Mizutani Of Hadaka No Rallizes) - The Tropics CD (Showboat/sky Station) [SWAX080CD] $25.75
"This is a second pressing of 1975. First pressing came out in 1971 and is twice as expensive. The Tropics was Minami Masato's first record on which he got assisted by Mizutani Takeshi of the Rallizes Denudes, his only appearance on record ever. Minami Masato was one of Japan's first beatnik hippie scum singers, who before venturing into the music world, spent some time in Mexico where he indulged himself in the narcotic goodies the country had to offer, went to America and witnessed in 1964 the rise of the beatnik movement and saw one of Bob Dylan's early performances. Minami's life would never be the same again. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean, criss-crossed through Europe and returned to Tokyo in 1966. He participated at the 1968 Kyoto Folk Jamboree Festival. However, his debut single did not appear until October 1969, followed by a second single in 1970. This album, his debut appeared in July 1971 for which he got assisted by a loose collective of fan musicians and befriended artists. Hadaka no Rallizes' Mizutani Takeshi was such a fan collaborator since he was quite in awe for what Minami stood for, being the unattached beatnik and drugged singer-songwriter he was. He let loose some ear shattering electric guitar on the album's closing track. This is the sole recorded output of Mizutani on disc. At least officially, if one ignores the dozen bootlegs and unofficially released music of his (like the Arthur Doyle-Mizutani 2LP set that was released without his consent). An unbelievably valuable document of the early Japanese underground. Hyper rare and demented all the way. For lovers of Hadaka no Rallizes, Tomokawa Kazuki, Acid folk, Jandek, and just obscure and psyched out sounds."

Mitch Ryder - Sings The Hits CD (DBK Works) [DBK542] $17.00
Not a greatest hits record but instead a collection by the unsung hero of Detroit rock'n'roll and blue-eyed soul blowing through cover after cover, giving his own unique treatment to everyone from The Supremes to The Drifters, Allen Toussaint to Rufus Thomas. This is no Pat Boone clean up for the refined upper middle class honky set, no sir, this is rough and tough balls-to-the-wall R&B that rocks as hard or harder than the originals with Ryder's signature guttural howl leading the way. A classic on CD for the first time from Detroit's greatest R&B howler.

Paul Kossoff with Black Cat Bones - Paul's Blues 2CD (Sunbeam Records) [SBR5058CD] $21.25
This double CD contains the earliest known recordings of the UK's Paul Kossoff (Free), whose tragic death at 25 in 1976 robbed the rock world of one of its finest-ever blues guitarists. Taped at rehearsals with Black Cat Bones in London in 1967, the raw, lo-fi tracks find the teenaged Kossoff already a master of his instrument. Accompanied by musicians including Derek and Stuart Brookes (later to form the legendary Leaf Hound), and featuring a guest appearance from Paul Rodgers (later to form Free with Kossoff), the recordings are of considerable historical importance. They are released here for the very first time, along with a booklet featuring rare photographs, full liner notes and an introduction from the band's drummer, Frank Perry, making the album an essential purchase for all serious rock fans.

Piero Piccioni - Bell'antonio CD (Dagored) [RED183] $17.00
In the extraordinary music that PIERO PICCIONI composed for Bolognini's masterpiece, Antonio, the tormented protagonist of the story, and his intimate burning drama are accompanied by the splendid soundtrack in a union that is highly evocative, coloring the splendid black and white in perfect 1960s style. Piccioni's music cuts to the heart of Sicilian life of the post-war period, conveying the mood of its very distinctive customs, and the angst and desperation of the characters in the story, touched by such intimate tragedies. There is no folk music in this soundtrack; just Piccioni's extraordinary, original score, which adheres so incredibly to the various scenes, situations, moods and emotions, that by listening to the music, you almost feel as if you are flipping through the pages of the book that the screenplay was based on.

Shop Assistants - Shop Assistants aka Will Anything Happen CD (Cherry Red) [CDMRED374CD] $15.00
"The Shop Assistants were one of the defining bands of the '80s independent boom. Formed in Edinburgh in 1984, originally as Buba & The Shop Assistants, they released the Peel-approved indie staple Something To Do , which featured Stephen Pastel on backing vocals. With line-up changes and an abbreviated name, they released the Shopping Parade EP a year later, which saw Morrissey describe 'All Day Long' (included on this collection) as his favorite track of the year. The band's David Keegan (who would subsequently join the Pastels) then formed 53rd & 3rd Records, which housed the band's 'Safety Net,' one of two songs, along with 'I Don't Want To Be Friends With You' (again, included here) to be voted part of John Peel's Festive Fifty of 1986. They also featured on that year's celebrated, infamous, nay, iconic C86 NME compilation. This re-release incorporates the material they released after signing to Chrysalis' Blue Guitar subsidiary. The Shop Assistants, aka Will Anything Happen, is their sole album release, and is accompanied here by two bonus tracks; 'Looking Back' and the slow version of 'All Day Long.' Although reissued in 2001, it has long been out-of-print, fetching scary prices on a well known auction site in acknowledgement of its status as one of the indispensable articles of the C86/shambling/independent scene."

It was a fine achievement which propelled Yamashta to a wider audience which would eventually lead to his acclaimed Go albums featuring collaborators Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve, and Klaus Schulze. Never before released on CD, this Esoteric reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and fully restores the original vinyl artwork and continues Esoteric's series of Yamashta's work for Island Records."

Agent Side Grinder - Debut LP (Enfant Terrible) [LPAGENTDEBU] $13.50
The band plays real industrial music in the style of Cabaret Voltaire, mix it with some proto-punk in the Suicide way, fuse this with the energy of early EBM reminiscent of The Klinik and top this with psychedelic touches that can be traced back to The Doors. The result is an unique, contemporary and fresh sound that will appeal to fans of industrial, elektro, old style EBM and krautrock alike. Also AGENT SIDE GRINDER has already proven to be a great live band, with only analog equipment on stage. Limited to 525 copies and out on Holland's Enfant Terrible label, who've already made a name for themselves with their vinyl reissues of early '80s minimal electro obscurities. Sure to be a treat for those who've been following the likes of Wierd Records.

Aids Wolf - Cities Of Glass LP (Lovepump United) [LPU018] $14.75
NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!!

Alton Miller - In Flight 12 inch (Yore Records) [YORE011EP] $11.50
Alton Miller presents In Flight. on "Who Am I?" Rhodes accents and analog synth melodies match a marching strut -- timeless house music. On "Futuristic Funk" a looped voice incessantly repeats "too late now..." thereby adding a touch of delirium to the tune's stomping swing. Warmed by old-school synth flourishes, congas, and Rhodes melodies, Miller's rich and seductive club music makes surrender the only possible proposition. Deep, musical, and not to be missed.

Andrea Parker (feat. DJ Assault) - Freaky Bitches (Second Installment) 12 inch (Touchin' Bass) [TB037EP] $10.25
"Andrea Parker's classic 'Freaky Bitches' single featuring Detroit's booty bass masters DJ Assault and DJ Godfather, gets more re-workings with the Second Instalment of remixes. First up is the booty shakin' Michna remix with its old-skool cut 'n' paste style, creative sampling and up-beat tempo. As Eggfooyoung, Adrian Michna is no new comer to Touchin' Bass, having released the EP 'Breakdance and Motivate' in the label's early days. He is also part of Miami's Secret Frequency Crew and has signed to Ghostly for the release of his debut album as Michna, out in October. Then steps up Clatterbox, another Touchin' Bass regular with his resonating take on the original. Clatterbox aka David Kempston gained an early following with releases on seminal UK label, Clear. On the B-side we move things outside of the Touchin' Bass camp, kicking off with Justin Maxwell, taking 'Freaky Bitches' into an entirely different musical territory. A media ace, Justin's career spans a number of areas. A DJ and producer, his work can be found internationally on labels like Palette, Trapez, Compost, Poker Flat, Get Physical and Pretension, where he did the classic track 'Pillow Filter'. Montreal's LCEDP provides an amazing aural assault for his rendition. Not for the faint-hearted Antoine Cote has become known for his speedcore creations as both LCEDP and audioterrorism. For the final venture, we continue the musical experimentations and hand over to Warp's Mira Calix, known for her dark brooding, electronic textures and compositions, with several releases under her belt, including projects with The London Sinfonietta and Alexander's Annex. Not for the first time she joins up with the remarkable musician that is cellist Oliver Coates. Together they present a stunning remix of strange notes and unnerving frequencies."

Appleblim & Peverelist - Over Here (Remixes) 12 inch (Applepips) [PIPS002EP] $11.50
"After the success of Apple Pips first release from Martyn, we are back with another treat for music heads. Our 2nd release comes from Brendon Moeller aka Beat Pharmacy Brendon first came to our attention with his deeper than deep Humpback 7" on Earsugar, under his Beat Pharmacy guise. Since then he has consistently impressed with deep, technical, spacious house music of the highest order. Shackleton approached him to do a remix of Appleblim & Peverelist's 'Over Here' for the forthcoming 2nd Skull Disco singles and remixes round-up compilation, & 'Blim was so impressed with the results that he cheekily asked for not one but TWO more mixes of the same tune so he could put them out on wax! Brendon came back with two killer mixes. On the A-side under his real name, Brendon has created an 127bpm big room classic, submerging the original elements under layers of delay and echo, deep but grooving. On the flip he dons his Beat Pharmacy guise, slows things down to 120bpm & spaces things out in fine style, utilizing the original's abstract riff and resetting it in a really exciting new house tempo context. With releases coming on Rekids, Third Ear, & Deep Space and remixes for Echospace and others coming up it looks like a great year for Brendon and Pips is proud to present this exciting clash of styles."

Autistic Daughters - Uneasy Flowers LP (Staubgold) [STAUB081LP] $16.00
Released on CD in March of 2008 on Kranky, Uneasy Flowers is the second album by New Zealand's Autistic Daughters, the intercontinental trio of Dean Roberts (guitar, vocals), Martin Brandlmayr (percussion, computer) and Werner Dafeldecker (guitar, bass). It is also the fourth in a series of records in which Roberts, having begun in more abstract territory in New Zealand's mid-1990s "free noise" ferment, has embraced song, lyric and voice as vessels for topographic and psychoanalytic tracings of the impacts of territory and nomadism on the subject. This is reflected by the shape-shifting nature of the outfit: while Autistic Daughters (whose name comes from a lyric from their first record Jealousy And Diamond) are resolutely a trio, they also work in cinematic format, with ancillary players behind the trio's complex, worm-turning arrangements: in this instance, Chris Abrahams of The Necks, Martin Siewert and Valerio Tricoli. With Uneasy Flowers, Roberts traces the internal and external workings of one protagonist: or, rather, a protagonist who "contains multitudes," a Whitmanian figure that dissolves the unified self. Rather, this character, "Rehana," embodies multiplicity and fragmentation in order to both a) address loss and b) aim toward transfiguration, transcendence. There are traces in the lyrics -- traces of addiction and desire, myth and transformation -- that are obliquely reflected in the music's structure, its uneasy tension between the pop song (the "moment") and experiment (the "process"). In some ways, it reminds of the structural, loop-based cinema of figures like Malcolm LeGrice: taking one moment and stretching it, the better to capture its nuances and to draw out all the repressed material caught in the mise-en-scène, the hidden, cloaked content that erupts when your world spirals out of your control and gets caught in webs of interpersonal politic. The move from intimacy to the capture of the "greater picture" enacted by both lyric and music here resembles a camera dollying out, a shift of perspective unsettling for its vertigo-inducing qualities.

Babylon System & SPL - Gangster 12 inch (Hollow Point Recordings) [HPR001EP] $11.50
"Coming straight out of Lost Soul HQ it's Hollow Point Recordings. SPL breathes life into a brand new sound of dubstep by pushing the envelope to a more hardcore level for those people who like it ruff and tuff. With two brand new SPL tunes showcasing this sound and a guest appearance by Argon's Babylon System. The 12 starts off with 'Gangster' a filthy grime inspired track with big bad gross basslines that stabs like a killer on Duracell batteries - just keeps on going and going and going and going. The B side holds the instant bassface tune 'Lust.' Tearing kicks, rumbling basslines and edits so lush it's just too sick to put into words. After Skream, Benga & Rusko it's up to SPL to put his distinctive mark on the dubstep genre!"

Barbara Morgenstern - Come To Berlin (Remixes) 12 inch (Monika) [MONIKA063EP] $10.75
As a taster of Barbara Morgenstern's album BM, Monika brings you 3 remixes of her politically-charged hit "Come To Berlin," including mixes by Telefon Tel Aviv, The Rice Twins and Chloé, as well as an exclusive single edit. The Rice Twins mix features vocoder-distorted vocals and swooping melodious synth strings. Telefon Tel Aviv's mix retains most of the original structure, but is fully club-compatible. DJ Chloé's treatment is a minimal cut perfect for the dancefloor with sampled piano and vocals.

Berovic & Leicher - Owabi 12 inch (Einmaleins) [EINMAL036EP] $11.50
"Einmaleins welcomes Berovic & Leicher. Nedzad Berovic and Frank Leicher are based in Frankfurt. You already know them from their releases on International Freakshow and Level Non Zero (together with Chris Wood as Fresh Fried). Now they bring us three tight tracks, finger licking thick cut edgy minimal funk with a spice of Africa flavored and subtle thrown in sexy groove. Both sides are incredibly well produced and peak time indeed. A quality package for heavy rotation and all kinds of floors."

Blue Sabbath Black Cheer - Untitled LP (Gnarled Forest) [GF16] $13.75
Two brutal bludgeonings, 30-plus minutes of anti-music abuse and extermination. Side A is an uncompromising death reality. Previously available on the split cassette with Hymns of Despondent Solitude (Gnarled Forest). New additional sound sources from MATT WALDRON (IRR. APP. EXT., NURSE WITH WOUND) and CHRIS DODGE (Slap A Ham Records, SPAZZ, DESPISE YOU). Side B is all out war of the damned. Previously available on the split cassette with Vestigial Limb (Epicene). Both songs have different mixes from their original cassette releases. Cover art by DOMINIC BLACK.

Broombeck - Protect Your Neck 12 inch (Opossum) [OPSM018EP] $11.50
"The neck area is the most vulnerable and deadly spot that could kill a human being instantly. If you notice your dogs - provided you have one -- they bite the neck when they are attacking your stuffed animals. A vampire would bite someone's neck because the jugular vein is there, which means the neck is an easy place to get to large amounts of blood quickly. The more we think about it, we reckon that vampires just bite the neck because it looks good for the camera. Possibly Broombeck named his Clapper follow up Protect Your Neck cause it just should work like another slap in the neck: This chord-impregnated bass-monster rolls all over the dancefloor like a tank and fires high spirits out of all muzzles at the same time. For the improbable circumstance that chief cannoneer Broombeck should really shoot off target or in case there is some trippy afterhour flick going on, the remixing gunners Harry Axt and Dinamoe will take care for guaranteed strikes. You best protect ya neck!"

Bruce Springsteen/Suicide - Dream Baby Dream 10 inch (Blast First Petite) [PTYT017EP] $14.00
This is the first in Blast First Petite's year-long series of monthly(ish) limited edition 10" vinyl EPs celebrating the 70th birthday of Suicide's Alan Vega. The first track is "The Boss" himself Bruce Springsteen doing a cover of "Dream Baby Dream," live from his 2005 Devils & Dust Tour -- exclusively available here. Totally haunting and unexpected! The flipside features Suicide performing that song on the Midnight Special live TV show in 1978 -- recently recovered from a lost Suicide vault and previously unreleased -- as well as a ripping cover of "Mr. Ray" by now-defunct contemporary New York band, Beat The Devil. Subsequent editions in this series will include tributes by artists such as The Horrors, Peaches, Primal Scream, SUNN O)))/Pansonic, Lydia Lunch, The Klaxons, Julian Cope, Liars, Spiritualised, and Grinderman. Edition of 4,000 black vinyl. Cover image: Edward Mapplethorpe (brother of Robert Mapplethorpe).

Butch - Papillon 12 inch (Great Stuff Records) [GSR073EP] $11.50
"To announce the release of his debut album Papillon (out in October 2008 on Great Stuff), the Turkish-German wonderboy Butch choose these four brand new dancefloor weapons to introduce the full range of different styles and sounds of his album. From deep and warm house to cool tech-house and rocking peak time techno...this guy knows it all."

Butch & Julie Marghilano - Last Tango 12 inch (Envy My Music Records) [EMMR004EP] $11.50
"Loved by Villalobos, Tiefschwarz, Loco Dice, Luciano, Onur Ã-zer, Tobi Neumann, Dubfire, Thomas Schumacher, Laurent Garnier, Ivan Smagghe, Karotte, Johnny D, Gabriel Ananda, Luca Bacchetti, Italoboyz, Jimpster, Pig&Dan, Mark Broom, Groove Rebels, Kabale und Liebe, Hernan Cattaneo, Phonique, Shlomi Aber, Lauhaus, Davide Squillace, Andrew Grant, Eyerer, Reboot, Nick Curly, Oliver Klein, Sebbo, Dustin Zahn, Liberto, and Tony Matt. Butch and Julie met and played at Sosho Retox in London and the admiration for each other's music and performance brought the two to meet up in Butch's studio near Frankfurt. Last Tango was the extraordinary result, which includes all factors a hit needs: A catchy and yet subtle groove, a lovely brainwashing lead loop which merges into the exuberant break with so much feeling, soul and drama that only Julie could conjure up! This tune has practically got the festival-rocking guarantee built in my friends! But Butch isn't greedy and is ready to share his magnificent files with his buddy and studio-partner Amir who puts together a groove monster with funny and subtle ideas; Butch's Trapez label-colleague Mihalis Safras offers another monster of a mix and Connaisseur's Daso & Pawas get us all into different spheres with this hypnotic and very unforeseeable production. A special thanks goes out to Thomas Heckmann who offered to master this masterpiece and gave this release its necessary amount of thump! Butch says: 'Last Tango is my best summer-production so far!' But be prepared for his forthcoming album!"

Challenge - Zimmer 12 inch (K2) [K2035EP] $10.25
"You won't find anyone at the Kompakt headquarters that never had crush on a Tim Paris track. His Marketing imprint gave birth to some instant classics that probably also saved your day/night/morning at some point. His sound is difficult to pigeonhole as it oscillates between abstract, disco, '80s retro pop, minimal house, afterparty techno and uhm... whatever you want. It diffuses an earthy scent of unperfumed bodies which can be a nice thing. We're talking about natural fragrance rather than old sneakers. There's a lot of truthfulness in this music. It gives you the impression that you're at the right party. Challenge is Tim Paris with his friend Pete Herbert. They joined our family with what we call an anthem. Check out 'Zimmer' and wait until that men's choir kicks in. It can make the sun shine at day and night likewise. We've never heard something like this before and we never ever want to be without it anymore. This is buddy house."

Chefal & Cluekid - Sub Soca 12 inch (Subbalicious) [LISH001EP] $11.50
"Subbalicious Recordings is a new label setup and run by Chef aka Chefal, from London, and Osiris, from Amsterdam. Subbalicious looks to supply delightful, fresh and delicious sounding dubstep releases to the UK, Europe, and the rest of the dubstep world. Using its direct connection between the Dubstep capital of the world (London) and the marijuana capital of the world (Amsterdam), the Subbalicious is geared for any dancefloor crowd that can get to down to some bass. He was voted as one of the top 5 international dubstep DJs on dubstepforum.com, and has been all over the world, spinning the latest tunes from his bag of Transition dubs. 'Sub Soca' is a track Chef made for the first anniversary of DMZ and now, after two-and-a-half years, is finally being released. It has been revised a bit to fit 2008 dubstep standards, but still has that sexy soca vibe to it. A guaranteed tune to get people up and dancing whether they're at the club or in the train. About Cluekid: Cluekid has been into bass-music since the age of 16. Starting of as an MC over Grime music, Cluekid went on to explore the rest of the UK underground bass scene. Soon Cluekid was producing and DJing grime and jungle, but it was actually Chef who eventually pulled Cluekid into the dubstep direction. The result was Cluekid teaming up with beat cohort Cotti, and releasing various hit tunes such as 'Sensi Dub,' 'Hovercraft,' and 'Toadstep' for their shared label -30 Recordings and also Cluekid's personal label, Bullfrog Beats. 'Monkey Style' is a fresh new track done by Cluekid. It has a heavy jungle influence that is sure to wet an appetite for more. About Osiris: Osiris is one of the original pioneers of dubstep in the Netherlands. As a DJ, he's played countless parties, from grime sets on the radio, to some of the first dubstep parties in Holland, and currently playing all over Holland, in clubs large and small. As a businessman, his credentials include: being the owner of Dubstep.nl (#1 online Dutch Dubstep community), Us Management (artist management company), co-owner of Brrrap! (Dutch Dubstep Fanzine), as well as being involved in the Oi! raves in Amsterdam and soon running the Oi! record label."

Clark & Schatz - Hot Choc 12 inch (Highgrade) [HIGH053EP] $11.50
Highgrade's head-honcho Tom Clark and Berlin talent Markus Schatz present Hot Choc. The original version playfully swings with an easygoing groove. Tom Pooks remixes with a whole lot of jacking energy. Punch meets hypnotic deepness. The edit by Markus Schatz is a real inferno made of funky bleeps and weird sounds.

Coki/Chefal - Bloodthirst 12 inch (Sub Frequencies) [SUBFREQ001EP] $11.50
"Very Limited white label promo from DJ Chef's label. Old skool dub runnings from Coki with long awaited 'Bloodthirst' and Chef delivers exactly what it says on the tin! Recommended."

Cotti vs. Mr. Party - Dem Fi Know / Shake Ur Solarplex 12 inch (Argon) [ARG018EP] $11.50
"Party time on Argon Records! Badman producer Cotti teams up with Mr. Party, aka MC Slickman, and the original Murkle Man, Jammer, to drop a weighty uptempo piece in the shape of 'Dem Fi Know.' Mr. Party drops cheeky bars in between Jammer's chorus lyrics as the piano-led bouncy 4/4 clatters away underneath. Flipside, 'Shake Ur Solaplex' is similar in vibe to 'Legacy,' necksnapping halfstep and juicy synths pinging off sizzling sub pressure."

Cult of Youth - A Stick To Bind, A Seed To Grow LP (Dais) [LPCULTAST] $20.75

Dan Andrei - Just Music 12 inch (Be Chosen) [BECH006EP] $11.50
"Be_Chosen welcomes the young and very talented Dan Andrei for his first international release. After releasing on Arpiar he now joins the Be_Chosen family for the next decades. His interpretation of 'Just Music' comes along with a deeeeep atmosphere and groovy beats completed by some real true words. We also have to thank Stipé for his 'Hell Yeah' edition. Stipé is one of the upcoming next generation producers and DJ´s which are based in the Frankfurt area. His track forces you to dance the floor. Dave Aju - Open Wide 2x12 inch (Circus Company) [CCS032LP] $19.00

Davy Graham - Folk, Blues & Beyond LP (Stamford Audio) [LC4649LP] $33.25
180g vinyl. "This was Graham's most groundbreaking and consistent album. More than his solo debut The Guitar Player (which was pretty jazzy) or his previous collaboration with folk singer Shirley Collins, Folk Roots, New Routes, this established his mixture of folk, jazz, blues, and Middle Eastern music, the use of a bassist (Tony Reeves) and drummer (Barry Morgan) also hinting at (though not quite reaching) folk-rock. 'Leavin' Blues,' 'Skillet (Good'n'Greasy),' and 'Moanin'' are all among his very best folk-blues-rock performances, while on 'Maajun' he goes full-bore into Middle Eastern music on one of his most haunting and memorable pieces. Covers of traditional folk standards like 'Black Is the Colour of My True Love's Hair' and 'Seven Gypsies' combine with interpretations of compositions by Bob Dylan ('Don't Think Twice, It's Alright'), Willie Dixon ('My Babe'), Charles Mingus ('Better Git in Your Soul'), and Reverend Gary Davis ('Cocaine') for an eclecticism of repertoire that wasn't matched by many musicians of any sort in the mid-'60s." - Richie Unterberger/Allmusic.com

Daze Maxim - One Million Shakers 12 inch (Hello? Repeat Records) [HELLO012EP] $11.50
Daze Maxim returns to Hello? Repeat with a big bang. The A-side opens with "Tube People," a deep and intense house track that builds into a mind-bending groove. As if this is not enough, we get "Jat," an unstoppable rollin' percussion lesson where we ask ourselves if Daze has 15 more arms to play this stuff. We're speechless. Right after this impressive monster, Daze returns to his deeper side and delivers "Mudhole," a reduced, up-building disco caterpillar.

Delete - Sari Sari/Kick The Bully 12 inch (Leftout) [LEFTOUT005EP] $10.75
Venezuela's Sergio aka Delete has made a name for himself across the globe with releases on Sci Tech, Frankie and Safari Electronique, gaining fans from Magda to Tiefschwarz. On "Sari Sari," Sergio teams up with Miguel Colmenares. This track, full of grooves and sounds, now has a Spanish influence which gives this track more of a stuttered feel. This, together with Gameboy stabs and synths, makes this a great and quirky addition to the EP. Includes a remix by Monomachine.

Deville - Rumble 12 inch (Senseless) [SENSE007EP] $11.50
"This is DeVille's first release on the label but as well as running The Fix Up in Leeds and hosting a show on SUBFM he's a fixture at all Senseless raves and has just completed a seven date tour of the USA showcasing the label's sound mixed up with his own diverse set of influences. Rumble proved to be a big hit stateside and has featured on a XLR8R podcast with regular plays from DJs like Starkey who push the street bass sound that is dubstep's close neighbour. It hot-wires a jump up soca style beat to old school rave melodies and box busting bass to create a genre defying mix-up that dubstep DJs across the world are switching up their sets with. Regular plays across the board on SUBFM, Dubstep.FM, Reload and more. Stamina continues the bass-rave theme with a jungle sample for heads to reminisce over while the rest of the crowd are bouncing up and down like they got glow stick juice in their eye. Raucous 4x4 beats and a driving arpeggiated synth propel a wall of junglist sub bass forward with dub echoes and techno percussion joining the dots. This one's been tearing down warehouses from Athens to Caracas. Bass rave for president 2008."

Disaster Strikes - Interrogation Sessions 7 inch (Alternative Tentacles) [VIRUS393] $6.25
Boston's most politically-active and inspirational hardcore punk band is back with a scorching vinyl 7-inch that sonically and lyrically eviscerates corporate greed and imperial politics. Informed by singer J.R.'s life experience as a full-time union organizer, this must-have 7-inch for all fans of hardcore punk with a message delivers a level of truth and political edge that can't be bought at Hot Topic. The Interrogation Sessions EP is also the first Alternative Tentacles vinyl release to ever come packaged with a special download "dropcard" which gives owners of the vinyl a one-time code for one free download of all four tunes. DJ Panik/Chancha Via Circuito - Te Ves Bien Buena 12 inch (Bersa Discos) [BERSA003EP] $10.25
"Time for numero tres from our cumbia-loving Bay Area homies at Bersa Discos, and this time they've got Texas' DJ Panik and ZZK's Chancha via Circuito on board for the hottest set of tunes yet (no joke). Panik comes out guns blazing on lado A with nasty cumbia remixes of El General's 'Te Ves Bien Buena,' Unk's '2 Step' and Baby C's 'Do It Like This.' All these are surefire dancefloor detonators - nothing syrupy this time out. No no - that's left to CvC on the flip, who gets straight hypnotic with 'Cumbia Murguera' and then brings out the crickets for the ultra mellow (and yet strangely gun-clacking) 'Damas Gratis Dub.' Yes, Bersa Discos is truth."

Donnacha Costello - It Simply Is/Trust 12 inch (Minimise) [MINIMISE035EP] $11.50
Donnacha Costello takes it back to simpler times with just one synthesizer, one Roland TR-808 drum machine, and some basic effects. "It Simply Is" is an emotive ambient track in which synthesizer melodies and echoes wash over each other and modulations send shivers down the spine. "Trust" is a building, rushing, euphoric dancefloor track. Brought to life with only a few classic elements, it shines in its simplicity and emotion. The first 1000 pressings will come exclusively on clear vinyl.

Dr. Boogie - Shim Sham Shimmy LP (Sub Rosa) [SR279LP] $14.00

Drones, The - The Minotaur + A Brief Retrospective PIC DISC 12 inch (ATP Recordings) [ATPR001EP] $12.25
The Drones present the first single and picture disc, "The Minotaur" off their highly-anticipated fourth album, Havilah. "The Minotaur" is a lusty and brutal blitz that over three and-a-half minutes, manages to draw the historical line between ancient Greek mythology and current-day time-wasting. A half-salute to modern-day sloth, and the painful decisions our future leaders face. The EP also includes another track from the new album alongside two tracks from Wait Long By The River... and two tracks from Gala Mill.

Dubshape - Droplets 12 inch (Kompakt) [KOM179EP] $11.50
Fresh from São Paulo's impeccable The Edge club, Kompakt is happy to present Dubshape. The project consists of DJ João Lee and his production partner Ale Reis. Droplets sounds like the distilled essence of the past two decades of house music. It sounds like it's always been there. Mr. Fingers, Marshal Jefferson, Carl Craig, Ray Castoldi, Dixon, it's all in there. Droplets is like a great bottle of red wine, but you shouldn't put this record in your basement. It should be played out loud.

Dungen - 4 LP (Subliminal Sounds) [SUBL030LP] $23.75
This is the limited and more expensive clear-vinyl Swedish edition of Dungen's fourth studio album (released on CD & LP in the U.S. via Kemado), extending the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare.

Dyno - Teoremia 12 inch (Hell Yeah Recordings) [HYR7018EP] $11.50
"Hell Yeah is proud to welcome Italian DJ/producer Dyno on board. The Cocoricò resident DJ has made a name in the circuit for supersounding techno tunes on Italian Mantra Vibes. This first EP on Hell Yeah shows up his ability to combine dark tinged melodies ('Robottino') with dynamic hard grooves ('Guerra Aperta') and weird minimal trickness ('Teoremia'), he keeps the DJ friendly factor high without losing the alternative edge of his music. We think that Dyno is about to become a key player in the techno community in the next months. You know where you've seen him first!"

Eleh - Homage To The Square Wave LP (Taiga) [TAIGA004LP] $19.00
Following three sold-out releases on Important Records, the mysterious Eleh present their fourth vinyl-only full-length, Homage To The Square Wave. Featuring two side-long tracks each clocking in at over 20 minutes, Homage is dedicated to highly influential German artist and mathematician, Josef Albers. Eleh return with their battery of vintage modular analog gear to produce a recording of pure tone, pure sound, pure volume and pure analog. Side A features "Black," a slowly enveloping mass of intensely throbbing low-end, activating the flight response. Time passes rapidly in a hallucinatory forest filled with suffocating bulbs of bass. "Blue & White" on the B-side provides the decompression of rocking on a calm ocean. Soft peaks of warm tone rise and fall over the surface of concentrated saline. Volume reveals detail. Homage was mastered by James Plotkin, cut direct to metal and pressed on 200 gram virgin vinyl in a hand-numbered edition of 500. The LP comes housed in a custom letterpressed jacket that was designed by John Brien of Important Records and printed by Studio On Fire in Minneapolis. The jackets were printed flat, die-cut, folded and glued resulting in a letterpressed jacket with a printed spine. Eleh was formed to pay tribute to the pioneers of audio minimalism such as La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Eliane Radigue, Pauline Oliveros and Charlemagne Palestine. The tidal rumblings of Eleh will appeal to fans of Sunn O))), Om, Oren Ambarchi, etc. This is drone with density.

Emi Ono - Kuro Shinju/Moon 12 inch (Hotflush) [HFT003EP] $11.50
"Hotflush Recordings presents a brand new face on HF2: Emi Ono, originally from Japan, but now residing in Ontario, Canada. On this, her first release, she delivers two tracks that take a hatchet to generic norms, incorporating a minimal soundscape but rolling at an accelerated, dubstep-centric tempo. 'Kuro Shinju' bubbles and bounces with sub bass pulses, warm synths and syncopated rhythmic touches. On the flip, 'Moon' strips the vibe right back, with half-step edges, beautiful electronic bells and tech-ish bleeps throughout."

Emmanuel - Indian Wallpaper 12 inch (Be As One) [BAO012EP] $11.50
"Emmanuel's talent is steadily getting a well deserved recognition. After having his first release ever being played by practically everyone, Emmanuel is back again to deliver another anthem that could only be described as unique and keeps the Be As One quality standard high as expected. The EP title track 'Indian Wallpaper' will gently take the floor back to India and its mystical atmospheres with a smart use of an enchanting melody and a phat groove. This tune sounds like a magical wake-up call for the soul. Simply put it's special. With the flipside tune 'Lipflap' Emmanuel is back to his own very effective trademark techno grooves. Phat basses with a tech funk edge and a simple and yet intelligent groove makes it the perfect follow up to Parade."

EQD - #1 12 inch (Equalized) [EQUALIZED001EP] $11.50

His past release was supported by Carl Craig and Loco Dice.

Fotheringay - 2 LP (Stamford Audio) [STAM1001LP] $33.25
"Stamford Audio, in association with Fledg'ling Records, is proud to present the first pressing on beautiful 180 gram vinyl in a lavish gatefold sleeve of this astonishing album. Fotheringay remain one of the great might-have-beens of British music. They lasted less than a year, and released just one album, but their disappearance robbed the early-'70s scene of a group of musicians capable of taking folk-rock to new heights of subtlety and musicianship. Now, the nine songs on that debut album; assumed for almost four decades to be their sole testament, are joined by the eleven that would have constituted a follow-up. Sadly the group broke up during the recording sessions for their second album. Incredibly all the tapes survived in various record company archives. Thirty-eight years later the surviving members of the group have mixed all the material to finally complete this remarkable album. When originally released their debut album went straight into the Top Twenty in both Melody Maker and NME, and is now an acknowledged classic recording of British folk-rock. It is very, very rare that musicians get the chance to complete a project begun 38 years earlier. The second Fotheringay album has been eagerly awaited by all fans of Sandy Denny, British folk-rock and by fans of great music in general."

F*** Buttons - Colours Move 12 inch (Atp Recordings) [ATPRSP005] $9.00
This is the second single to be released from F*** Buttons' highly-acclaimed Street Horrrsing. "Sweet Love For Planet Earth" is remixed by Andrew Weatherall, a respected DJ/record producer who first came to prominence through his remixes of The Happy Mondays, New Order, My Bloody Valentine, etc., in the early '90s. He is also a self-proclaimed Fuck Buttons fan: "Like listening to Fripp and Eno in 1973 through a pair of massive speakers that have been slashed with a carving knife."

Gabriel Ananda/Fairmont - Part 4 - 100 12 inch (Traum) [TRAUM102EP] $11.50
The Traum label presents two tracks that were not released on the Traum 100 vinyl, newly mastered and in a longer mix. Gabriel Ananda brings Detroit to Cologne. "Lila Pause" fuses polyrhythmic grooves with deep bass lines and combines these with strings and melodies that will provide DJ sets with a cool break. Fairmont's "Down The Rabbit Hole" is an epic, dream-like sequencer-driven techno track. It comes here in a longer version and was mastered by Emanuel Geller.

Git Some - Cosmic Rock LP (1-2-3-4 Go) [GO32LP] $12.75

Godflesh - Streetcleaner LP (Kreation) [KR21] $14.75
REISSUED ON VINYL!!! Easily one of the most important records in the last two decades. JUSTIN BROADRICK, G.C. GREEN and machine helped to change the face of modern heavy music in so many ways. Streetcleaner, to cut right down to it, is a thoroughly crushing, punishing, unforgiving, and unrelenting album. Featuring Justin Broadrick-formerly of NAPALM DEATH and now of the much loved JESU-on guitars and vocals, G.C. Green on bass, as well as a drum machine, the duo assault the listener with a soul crushing performance. Easily one of the heaviest records ever made. GC's bass and the machine lay down a solid groove while Justin's rhythm guitar acts to heighten the tension, with Justin focusing on playing the guitar more like a percussive instrument than it's traditional role. He even uses gold plated guitar picks to give his harmonic squeals even more of a cutting metallic bite

Goliath Bird Eater/Sasqrotch - Split 10 inch (Not Not Fun) [NNF128] $13.25
"LA's rep as a hometown to heaviness is backed up by a lotta props: Richter Scale-wrecking earthquakes, Vin Diesel racing an army camo hummer down Sunset Blvd on a daily basis, Buzz Osbourne loitering at pretty much every flea market within walking distance of a greasy spoon, etc. Oh, and the sick & twisted Sunn amp-manglings emanating from the respective lairs of GOLIATH BIRD EATER and SASQROTCH. Duh. GBE is the half-decade-strong gauntlet through which Eagle Rock-based Teen Choice Award-winner BOBB BRUNO gives voice to his solitary metal ruminations, and oftentimes riffs germinate in his brain/fingers for YEARS before being finally committed to 8-track tape. After a string of shaky drummers but SLAYING tapes/CDRs, he solidified shit enough to lock this timeless psych-crusher in the can. 'Blood Silk Road' slow-rides a one-note rock monolith into the void before post office local (and WILCO wild card) NELS CLINE steps in to wail an absurdly eyeball-shredding guitar solo that crescendos the song into a black light hurricane of repetitious death. Kill me now please. Highland Park's Sasqrotch cruise in a scummier mindset, rolling together depraved sax attacks, freakish costumes, and even the occasional bouzouki curveball intro into their mythically hirsute spliff before torching it in a blaze of drums and drop-tuned oblivion. Their B offering, 'Menstrual Cyclone,' is a fairly archetypal document of the road-tested freeform ripper they were jamming live for most of the latter half of '07. Suck it down."-NNF. Black vinyl 10-inches in printed jackets, plus a hand-numbered insert, with artwork by French electronic enigma KIKIFRUIT. Edition of 400.

Goliath Bird Eater/Sasqrotch - Goliath Bird Eater/Sasqrotch 10 inch (Not Not Fun) [NNF128LP] $15.25
"Document of 2 of L.A.'s more esoteric basement metal crews. GBE is a one-note highway to hell, with Eagle Rock expat Nels Cline stepping in to rip an absurd guitar solo. Sasqrotch go for a scummier and rawer approach, amp haze, low-end lurking, and hairy drums. Hand-numbered edition of 400."

Gow - Jiffy Hornswoggle 12 inch (Trapez) [TRAPEZ091EP] $11.50
British producer Gow aka Chris Gowland has put forward a stunning debut -- three brilliant tracks that are cool and at the same time over the top and full of joy. Chris has a great talent for composing music on a club level and knows how to communicate with people through music. These three tracks will be adored by the party crowd, combining a powerful bassy production with cut-up vocal stabs and wild synths. Keep your eye out for more hornswoggling in the future.

Horrors, The/Suicide - Shadazz 10 inch (Blast First Petite) [PTYT018EP] $14.00
This is number two in Blast First Petite's year-long series of limited edition 10" vinyl EPs celebrating Alan Vega's 70th birthday. The UK band du jour The Horrors present their version of "Shadazz," specially recorded for this series, and delivered with a twisted dub menace that could point towards an expanding sound-world for these dark princes! Previously unreleased anywhere, the flipside begins with Suicide's 1980s NYC live version of "Radiation," and Nik Void (a new persona for Kaito's Nikki Colk) does a propulsive, 'tronic floor-filler for cool alt/art discos everywhere. Edition of 3,000, cover image by Alex Rose.

Itamar Sagi - Later On 12 inch (Klap Klap) [KKLAP008EP] $11.50
"Itamar Sagi from the Be As One label really made a name for himself with his 'Black Gold' track that was released earlier this year. Inspired by the warmer and more emotional side of Detroit techno he very much captured something real and true in that song which certainly paid off in the end. Here he has done something a bit different. Not less good though. Actually better. This is a record for those moments when you need to increase the pace but still wants to keep the soul. Perfect!"

Jerome Sydenham - The GSXR 810 Remixes 12 inch (Apotek Records) [APT006EP] $11.50
"Apotek Records serves up the 'GSXR 810' Remixes featuring techno icons Adam Beyer and Ken Ishii. This track originally produced by Jerome Sydenham for his Nagano Kitchen project has now been subject to tremendous reworks by two legendary techno icons. Adam Beyer's body of work needs no introduction. He applies his excellence to 'GSXR 810' with searing Techno beats tweaked with an barrage of sound effects and topped off with a subtle futuristic rave complexity. The results are nothing less than groundbreaking. Ken Ishii, the overlord of the Japanese techno scene, makes a rare appearance on a European label. On this journey he takes us into the bowels of deep techno. Big kicks and deep melodic stabs also gives this remix a tech-house appeal which rounds off a stunning 12" and makes for a great overall package."

Julien Chaptal - Tokens Teaser 12 inch (Remote Area) [REMOTE001S-EP] $12.25
Julien Chaptal, also known for the melodic Wonderland, Am I Loco Lima?, and Freedom Fries together with Lauhaus is coming forth with his excellent debut album called Tokens on the Remote Area imprint. This is one hell of a teaser, supported by the likes of 2000 And One, Marco Carola, Adam Beyer and Tobi Neumann, Matthias Tanzmann, among many others.

Klangwart - Stadtlandfluss LP (Staubgold) [STAUB080LP] $16.00

Kleep - Formula One/Muppet Ride 12 inch (Klang Elektronik) [KLANG142EP] $11.50
Sami Liuiski aka Kleep's last record for Klang Elektronik Don't Push Me/ Zoo received some enthusiastic feedback: Luke Solomon said "Zoo is so up my street, it's ridiculous." Oliver Ho stated "My kind of thing. Nice and dirty!" "Formula One" picks up where "Zoo" left off, with a reduced number of sounds, while "Muppet Ride" is maximized for one hell of a good party.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Blutsbruder 12 inch (Musik Gewinnt Freunde) [MGF006EP] $10.25
"Blood brothers - this evokes a string of associations: cowboys and Native Americans, pipe of peace, shorts and scratched feet, an incredibly eerie overnight stay in the woods after cunningly spreading untruthfulnesses towards parents. Friendship - in its full innocence and noncommittal. However, the more one grows up, the more tactic the relations become and the bigger the nostalgic feelings grow when looking back at the uncomplicatedness. These (our) protagonists didn't cut their skin to seal their union with red lifeblood. Modern blood brothers exchange more abstract things to show their appreciation. For example, (re)mixes - which they also do in our case. We can only hope that this brotherhood will need renewal very often."

Krysmopompas - Heute Schlafen: Morgan Aufwachen 2xLP (S-S Records) [SS038LP] $18.50
"We are proud to announce the vinyl debut of the Berlin-based four-piece Krysmopompas. Not only does their name comes from the mysterious terrorist group featured in the German sci fi/trash film Kamikaze 1989 (starring Rainer Werner Fassbinder), but so does their sound. They are influenced by Fassbinder's ideas the writers Rolf-Dieter Brinkmann & Eugene Ionesco, and the music of Neue Deutsche Welle bands such as EA-80, Fehlfarben, and Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle, classic Krautrock like Neu and Can, as well as Wire, The Units, and Devo. Since 2004, they've played a number of live shows and released two limited edition CDs - Mitmachen beim Abbauen (2006), followed by Mehr Kilometer pro Leben (2007). We liked the CDs a lot and, when they went instantly out of print, convinced our Berlin buddies to let us put them on vinyl. And so we have Heute Schlafen - Morgan Aufwachen, a double album of neo-NDW sounds. The foundation is a Wire like simplicity but throughout the records you hear all the groups mentioned above. Yann and Felix both take up the vocals, cool German poetically intoned over their post-post sound. We are excited to introduce the world to Krysmopompas. Heute Schlafen - Morgan Aufwachen is a double album. The pressing is 550."

Landslide - Dreams & Visions 12 inch (Blackacre Records) [ACRE005EP] $11.50
"In the words of the inimitable Bunzer0 'Dubstep is Dubstep' and here to labour the point we at Black Acre proudly present the return of soulstep pioneer and original FWD resident, Landslide. 'Dreams & Visions' - Is a step into the uncharted territory of dubstep-soul, reinforcing that innovation is a trademark within Landslide's vast discography. Kicking off with a heavily layered hypnotic arpeggio, the honeyed soul of J'nay draws the listener to a domain of subtle angelic sounds. Lush pads soak an unpredictable half-step groove that still explores pathways back to dubstep garage roots. Summer vibes guaranteed. 'Dreams & Visions [Compound One RMX]' - Using an altogether tougher sound palate, DnB/Garage tag-team, Compound One ricochet Dreams' soulful tones off a metallic low end sound bed. A more stripped overall sound allows an increasingly intricate drum track to swing gracefully under the bassweight. 'Dreams & Visions [Inst]' - Yes we've even thrown in the instro. After repeated requests from the dub lovers you can also let Landslide's lush musicianship breathe fully unaided through your speakers. Support, Gilles Peterson, Domu, Zed Bias, 2562, TRG, Geiom, Martyn, Joe Nice, Hatcha, Dj Thinking, Unabombers."

Lauhaus - Casamance 12 inch (Area Remote) [AREA005EP] $12.25
Bizzy bee Lauhaus drops the ultimate house-y Detroit tune in your area. Jazzy chords, synths and Rhodes solos all over the place. Is it soft? Nope. Wait for the pounding groove and the hypnotic repetitive vocal hook. Supported by: Ricardo Villalobos, Nick Curly, Kabale und Liebe, 2000 And One, Shinedoe, Bart Skils.

Lili Z - The Two Of Us LP (In The Red) [ITR156] $12.00
After previous achievements with VOLT, THE SPLASH FOUR, THE NO-TALENTS, and her past collection of home tapes, LILI Z. comes back with fifteen new 8-track cassette living room recordings. Twisted into shapes that vaguely resemble seam-bursting garage punk, the songs' (thirteen originals and reworkings with Lili Z. lyrics of a Bela Bartok piece and an old Rondos chestnut) charm lies in their unpredictability. Sometimes it's a little late-'70s punk rock, sometimes it's catchy, metronome-like electropunk, sometimes it's pure guitar noise freakouts, and sometimes it's experimental tooling around. But most of all, it's pure Lili Z., recorded at home at her most intimate. A sort of musical diary, The Two of Us comes with a stunning, full-color gatefold sleeve of Lili's collages and meticulous illustrations for each song. This vinyl edition is limited to 1,000 and includes a bonus track not on the CD version.

Lowtec - Workshop 006 12 inch (Workshop) [WORK006EP] $11.50
"Slower deep house trips."

Madvillain - Madvillainy 2 2xLP (Madlib) [MAD003] $15.25
This was touted as a digital-only release, but here are some white label vinyl pressings of this stunning re-work of Madvillainy, with entirely new production from MADLIB. We can't be sure how long our stock on this one will last, especially since it sounds particularly crisp on wax.

Magic Lantern - High Beams LP (Not Not Fun) [NNF137LP] $16.50
"After far, far too long lost in the merch-less dark, the LBC's most married band, Magic Lantern, finally beam down the blinding full-length psych-statement we always knew they had hidden inside. It only took the Southern California sector a single 5-song demo plus a handful of incense-dense komische live flights to fully fall under the spell of ML's oncoming headlights, but now the rest of the globe can hop on the band's wild wagon. Hold on. High Beams throws out the total 20-sided die of the their illuminative powers, from stomping, storming show staples like 'Deathshead Hawkmoth' and 'Vampires In Heat' through to Sun Araw-vibed chime trancers ('Feasting On Energy') and even a good time acid-addled feedback boogie ('Cactus Raga'). These are all of the Lanterns' classic long-form anthems, captured in glorious high-def thanks to Bobb Bruno's attuned production/recording capabilities and a radiant mastering job courtesy of James Plotkin. The riffs rip, the drums destroy, and the organ burns a hole in the sun. Walk into the light. Black vinyl LPs (with full color center labels) in glossy jackets with flag photography by Cameron & Erica Stallones, plus a fried-eyed, full-color 11x17 poster. Edition of 500."

Maniacs Dream - Zanzibar LP (Arbor) [ARBOR82] $13.50
Finland is the epicenter of collective music making. Under the name MANIACS DREAM, members of Finnish bands such as AVARUS, FRICARA PACCHU, KEMIALLISET YSTAeVAeT, and more come together to create blown out free rock. Their unique/bizarre approach to music making, constantly questioning the construction / deconstruction of sound creates songs at times recalling the electro acoustic clatter drone of Avarus crossed with tribal rhythms and intergalactic kraut rock guitar zones. Total sonic freedom with a punk ethos directly influenced by a trip to Zanzibar prior to recording this record (which is a reissue of the long sold out tape originally released on Lal Lal Lal in 2006). In an edition of 450 records on light blue vinyl with printed labels and full color proprinted foldover sleeves with art by BENJAMIN BERGMAN and an insert.

Marcin Czubala - Berolina 12 inch (Mobilee) [MOBILEE041EP] $11.50
Berolina is the fourth single from Marcin Czubala and also a teaser for his album Chronicles Of Never. Backed by a remix from Russ Gabriel, it's a diverse and devastating two-track package. All the Czubala signature elements are here: bumping drums, samples, pinprick tones, deep, steady bass and mutating sounds. Gabriel turns the original into a muscular groove marked with bell tones and warm stabs. His approach is deeply funky and goes straight to the heart of the dancefloor.

Mark O'Sullivan - She Stood There Laughing 12 inch (Dk7) [DK7005EP] $11.50
"Taken from the forthcoming album from Mark O'Sullivan on DK7 recordings. In 2001 'The Difference' was released on DK recordings as the seventh release and it later got licensed to Output Recordings, thus the project was called DK7. DK7 recordings was funded by Jesper Dahlbäck and Mark O'Sullivan and is not to be associated with DK recordings."

Marked Men - Marked Men LP (Dirtnap) [ZZZ75] $11.50

Martin Eyerer - Furthermore 12 inch (Kling Klong) [KLING019EP] $11.50
"Heavy support by Josh Wink, Gregor Tresher, Jimpster, Mihalis Safras, Namito, Audiojack, Luke Solomun, H.O.S.H., Nic Fanciulli, Tige Stripes, Groove Armada, Technasia, Paolo Mojo, Butch, Luca Bacchetti, and Stephan Bodzin. Matthew Dear - Dog Days: The Robsoul Remixes 12 inch (Spectral Sound) [SPC064EP] $11.50
The Robsoul Remixes is a cross-continental project that mines the connections between Matthew Dear's precision techno-pop and the French label's expansive funk. DJ Sneak engineers "Dog Days" into an ebullient house romper. Robsoul boss Phil Weeks revives the unforgettable disco string sweeps of the original and stretches them tight against a crackling, frog-hiccup loop. Finally, Chris Carrier presents an upbeat, verdant minimal track, building micro-clips of bongo strikes and hi-hat hisses around seductive fades and vocal stutters.

Maxime Dangles - POF 807 12 inch (K2) [K2021EP] $10.25
"Maxime Dangles is a highly promising young artist. Fresh, ambitious and full of enthusiasm for techno music. After his contribution to the Kompakt Extra 039, he now has the chance to prove his skills with a solo release."

Melchior Productions - Who Can Find Me 12 inch (Cadenza) [CADENZA029EP] $13.25
Thomas Melchior returns to Cadenza with a single that continues to push gently outward against the boundaries of house music. Thomas has a knack for humanizing his music with compelling vocal samples -- the title track features a female voice that drifts like clouds on a summer day. Spindly arpeggios and quiet chords bounce against restrained drums. "Choir" sets hand drums and wood blocks against a limber house pattern while birdcalls and sampled choirs punctuate the music with jubilant outbursts.

Michel Cleis - Dixie On Monday 12 inch (Music Man) [MBF12047EP] $11.50
Michel Cleis has an eclectic past rooted in rock and pop, but his love for "shakin' music," humanism, and creativity have put him in contact with like-minded people, and he is now increasingly active as a techno producer. His first 12" for MBF is very strange and authentic and comes with two very different tracks: "Dixie On Monday" is a 12-minute groover with lots of percussion, whereas "Deconstructed" is more direct and Chicago house styled -- dark and weird.

Mikael Stavostrand - Spaceflake 12 inch (Sounderground) [SR008EP] $11.50
"Get ready for the 8th classic offering from the Sounderground stable, a gem of a release from Los Angeles resident, Mikael Stavöstrand. Having been a key figure in the electronic music scene for many years, Mikael's latest musical must-have is yet another example of his breathtaking, boundary busting musical interpretations. Always on top of his game, and in demand, his live shows are truly outstanding. Having amassed an ardent list of followers and been involved in collaborations right across the musical spectrum, his previous label outings include, Kindish, Thema, Sushitech and Spectral Sound."

Minimono - Ratman/Hugo 12 inch (Tuning Spork) [TS037EP] $11.50
Italian duo Minimono make their Tuning Spork vinyl debut with a sunny house groove. The original "Ratman" is bouncy and cheerful, but a bit off-kilter. The lead melody is sung by an actual rodent-human hybrid, and the ambient noise of a crowded room is integrated with house-y vibes. Next up is a more stripped-down version from Zander VT. Hugo's remix is full of his trademark cartoon violence. Finally, Jay Haze offers an understated interpretation with elements of string and flute.

Mr. Scruff - Kalimba / Give Up To Get 12 inch (Ninja Tune) [ZEN12212] $11.25
The Scruffy One returns with yet more funk inside his capacious, magical trunk. Picture a thousand potato people falling in love on a crowded potato dancefloor. Picture them rubbing their potato parts together. Feel the strings tug at their potato hearts. Feel yourself become tuberous, potato-ey. Get out there and give it some before you go green and get eyes in unsightly places. Aimed full-square and flat out at what is technically called 'dancefloor domination' "Kalimba" will give DJs everywhere a chance to relax, kick back and have a cup of tea for five minutes, while their crowd goes WILD. We cannot indemnify you against hot-drinks-related scalding. "Give Up To Get" carries on where "Kalimba" lets off. Brass, low-slung groove, some squiggly keyboard from none other that SIR KAIDI TATHAM and the kind of break which could make Hoseasons feel like Studio 54, it's an unrelenting monster, a caffeine and tannin-fueled journey into rudimentary and highly suggestive hip wiggling.

MRK1 - Electronik 12 inch (Contagious) [CON017EP] $11.50
"Contagious, now in its 5th year of business has seen releases from many of the dubstep scene's major players as well as pioneering some of the best new beats. Contagious comes with its 17th release, this time from label boss MRK1 (Mark One). 'Electronik' is a high energy baseline track that has received power plays from Skream, Rusco, Plastician, Virus Syndicate, N Type, Chase and Status and Sinden, to name just a few. It is guaranteed to have the crowd bawling for the rewind and screaming for more! 'Counteraction' is another big baseline track this time with a half time beat. Featured on Plastician's and MRK1 summer mixes, this track is one to shake your subs out of our speakers. This track has also been doing the rounds on the dubplate scene and now it sees its full release on this power packed vinyl."

Nicolas Masseyeff /maxime Dangles - 1+1 12 inch (Boxersport) [BOXER063EP] $11.50
Boxersport presents their new 1+1 series, beginning with two French rough diamonds. Maxime Dangles presents a pumping bass drum, a pushing bass line and a smart siren that will put life into your inner techno creature. Masseyeff flies over with a melancholic, long-haul bomber, vaguely reminding of Simon Baker's super hit "Plastik," but deeper and more emotional.

Nicone - Una Rosa 12 inch (Stil Vor Talent) [SVT023EP] $11.50
"We give you the right shirt for this beat!", is the slogan behind Niconé -- a whole world of music and fashion that doesn't differ between both. For Mr. Gerlach and Mr. Hirtenfellner, one complements the other. "Una Rosa" is a playful late summer hymn: a smoothly pumping bass line, a warm dub, some hi-hats and an addictive chorus. On the flip, Hamburg's house expert H.O.S.H. delivers a remix that turns the track into a percussive acid-house monster.

Novika - Tricks 12 inch (Channels Records) [CHA005EP] $11.50
"Novika is a Vocalist and radio DJ. Very active on the club scene for over eight years. In 2006 she released her first vinyl Finally EP on her own little label, Beats Friendly. It was recorded together with very talented Polish producers: Jacek Sienkiewicz, Agim, CLS + Wax and Innocent Sorcerers. The track 'Finally' was also well received outside Poland. It was played twice by Gilles Peterson in his Worldwide show and it was released on compilations by Tom Middleton (The Trip 2) and Towa Tei (Motivation Five). Her first proper solo album called Tricks Of Life was released in late 2006 through Kayax label. It includes songs written by Novika in collaboration with many Polish producers, musicians and two vocalists. Her track on Channels Rec. is a combination of deep house, jazz and house. You'll find also amazing deep remix from Honesty and club killer from 3 Channels and huge pack of digital tracks! Great minimal remix from SLG and deep house pearls from Slope, Rocco and Honesty with his vocal interpretation."

NSI (Non Standard Institut) - Squelch 12 inch (Non Standard Productions) [NSP004EP] $12.25
"The second release of Max Loderbauer and Tobias Freund on Non Standard Productions. Squelch is the second part of the last year released Reference EP. Loderbauer again is responsible for the analog sounds and sequences from the Doepfer a-100 modular system and Freund provides the beats from his Roland machines. Reverberating cymbals and pulsating drones are morphing and throbbing. Beats are rising but never seem to come to an end. If you think you've heard it before, think again."

Pan/Tone - Don't Pee On My Teepee 12 inch (Cereal Killers) [C/K010EP] $11.50
Sheldon Thompson (aka Pan/Tone, Sid Lerock, Gringo Grinder) presents three outtakes from his full-length Skip The Foreplay. Don't Pee On My Teepee celebrates a change in style much different from his earlier works. A smooth, uplifting sound compliments the unique branding that has always been Pan/Tone's trademark. This 12" promises to have something for the heart and ears of everyone.

Paul Frick - Knock On Wood 12 inch (Kalk Pets) [KALKPETS015EP] $10.25
"Some months ago, back in 2007, producer and musician Paul Frick released his first solo house EP Do Something on Kalk Pets and scored quite a success with it. His new EP Knock On Wood is up to shake the dancefloors of technoid soul even more. The Berliner presents us with three extraordinary sound set-ups: 'Slow Dance' is a track that doesn't necessarily incite cuddlesome swaying but strains your legs much more than the title suggests. The title track 'Knock On Wood, Babe' features Matthias Engler on the marimbaphone. Engler and Frick are occasional collaborators in the field of experimental music. The classical trained percussionist is co-founder of the 'adapter' ensemble and plays (among others) with the Ensemble Modern (that might be known even to pop fans through its collaboration with Frank Zappa in 1992). Frick's previous ardour for pop music is represented by his catchy sound-collages. The third track on the EP, 'Steal My Heart,' consists exclusively of 'stolen' sounds that he sampled from other artists. Crawford, known and fancied by Berlin's club scene for his eclectic DJ sets, comments very charmingly on every new sound, revealing who it was sampled from. So the systematic sound rip-off is to be understood as a homage to the artists that are stolen from."

Paul Wirkus/Mapstation - Forest Full Of Drums LP (Staubgold) [STAUB085LP] $16.00
This is the debut collaborative release by Mapstation (Stefan Schneider) and Paul Wirkus. The artists describe the process of recording Forest Full Of Drums thusly: "Everything was already there. The trees, the wind, the birds, the muddy soil, the undergrowth, playing children, people taking walks, the distant hum of a motorway and airplanes above. We arrived there as beginners. We had to wait for the right weather, to look for a good spot, to practice patience, to carry the drum kit through the bush and to set it up and start playing and recording. Daylight was all that was needed. It had begun as a fantasy, a vague and simple picture that you carry with you. Derived from the joy of being outside in nature: a drum kit standing in a forest. What would it sound like if you play and record it there? The forest as a resonating space. A room where you are inside and outside at once. Sometimes it looks like a friendly home, and at other times becomes an eerie sea. A space in which the ancient sounds of the world meet the sounds of civilization. If you stand in one spot, it is difficult to recognize where the sounds are coming from and whom or what they belong to. Playing and recording there was very far from being in a perfectly-controlled studio situation. First, we started hitting the drums we brought and then later on we started picking up sticks and branches, tossing around big logs and becoming curious about what they would sound like. The forest had slowly changed our initial ideas in an elegant way. It enabled us to make music with just what we found and what was there. In the very moment that we wanted to do it, we simply had to dive into it, look underneath. Then the world became a bigger place than it was before." Paul Wirkus (drums, cymbals, branches, leaves, air improvisations); Stefan Schneider (steps, recording, editing, mixing).

Pharcyde - Runnin' (philippians Remix) 12 inch (Delicious Vinyl) [DV9041] $7.50
Sometimes the spheres align. This summer, Delicious Vinyl revisits two classic songs from legendary alternative rap collective THE PHARCYDE on the new single from their lauded Delicious RMXXOLOGY album. The single leads off with a remix of "Runnin," a tech-soul treatment by prodigal producer CORY NITTA (aka PHILIPPIANS) of the smash hit from The Pharcyde's sophomore album Labcabincalifornia. Then there's the "4 Better or 4 Worse" remix by DJ NU-MARK (JURASSIC 5) laying all-new brushed snare boom-bap beneath the wickedly humorous jam from the group's debut album Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde.

Pimps Ride Free - Pimps Wear Gucci 12 inch (Pimps Ride Free) [PIMPS001EP] $10.25
"We are delighted to offer the first release from Pimps Ride Free, a new sub-label from the guys who brought you Defrag Recordings. With the new label comes a new direction, and this first release is deep and immersive combination of tracks from Mario Masullo and Glitches. We can only see this label going from strength to strength on the basis of the quality of the music on offer here! Opener 'Pimps Wear Gucci' pulses patiently with a deep house groove, accented by static percussive loops. A subtle melody develops and envelops the mix, playfully bouncing between the beats. 'Pimps Life' is a more confrontational piece, with sharp beats adding structure to squelched electronic tone. Resonant melodic embers burn below the mix, heightening to a fired up climax as the percussion gathers steam."

Pivot - O Soundtrack My Heart 2xLP (Warp) [WRP166] $18.00
PIVOT are an Australian trio made up of DAVE MILLER and brothers RICAHRD and LAURENZ PIKE. If that last name is in any way familiar, it may well be for his membership of pioneering jazz/electronica trio TRIOSK (who broke up last year), though it might also be for his contributions to SAVATH + SAVALAS and FLANGER. O Soundtrack My Heart is Pivot's debut album though it's the result of a lengthy maturation as the band formed back in the late '90s.

Rafael Toral - Space 2xLP (Taiga) [TAIGA001LP] $19.00
Originally released on CD in 2006 by the Staubgold label, Taiga presents the deluxe 2LP version of Rafael Toral's Space, including one bonus track. This is a 2007 release from one of the most impressive new vinyl-only labels in the world. After over 15 years of drone and ambient work based around guitar and electronics, Rafael Toral has set off on a radically new mission. Leaving the guitar behind, Toral has equipped himself with instruments such as a Theremin-controlled white noise generator, amplified coil spring percussion, and a random pulse width modulation oscillator. With these, he has launched his jazz-fueled craft through Earth's atmosphere, into outer space. The resulting voyage is one where the sounds created recall the blast of a ray gun, the gurgle of a velociraptor, the rush of a primordial geyser, all seasoned with a vintage analog appeal and interspersed with meditative moments of silence. Toral's new approach to music, entitled the Space program, runs counter to his career thus far by focusing on performance instead of composition. The foundation and fundamental release of the program is Space. Using live and in-studio performances from 2004 and 2005, Toral designed Space as "an orchestral environment for electronic instruments." Following Space, the program continues with releases from the Space Solo series, documenting performances of individual instruments played unaccompanied, and the Space Elements series, featuring various collaborators while Toral focuses on a single piece of equipment. With previous releases by Toral on such respected labels as Touch, Table of the Elements and Ecstatic Peace, this exciting album by Toral is coincidentally Taiga's inaugural release as well as that of the Space program. It is presented here in a limited edition of 500 copies on direct-metal mastered 200 gram virgin vinyl. This version includes all of the original audio from the CD plus a previously-unreleased 17-minute vinyl-only bonus track, "Space Study 1.3," a live duet with percussionist César Burago. Packaged in a gatefold jacket designed by Helder Luís with spot metallic printing, the album boasts the Daniel Malhão photograph from the CD version expanded across the entire outside in UV gloss, an essay by Toral printed inside on reversed stock and the pockets flooded black.

Rafael Toral - Space Solo 1 LP (Taiga) [TAIGA002LP] $14.75
Originally released on CD by Staubgold side-label Quecksilber in 2007, Space Solo 1 is Rafael Toral's second release in his ongoing Space Program, a venturesomely bold series of recordings. Internationally-acclaimed for his experimental drone and ambient guitar work, the Space Program is completely divergent from his past output. Equipped with handmade instruments, Toral's project is a performance-based discipline, which he calls "post-free jazz electronic music." Following the Space Program's inaugural release, Space, Space Solo 1 presents a raw exploration of a select few instruments Toral designed for the series. In contrast to Space, which consists of thoughtfully layered recordings from various live and studio performances, Space Solo 1 presents unaccompanied instruments traveling through unfamiliar territories where sounds exist in their singularity. The result grabs at the listener to stay alert, tiptoeing around silent moments, increasingly mounting tension and inspiring awe. As each instrument hints at a particular language belonging only to itself, Toral's masterful playing is revealed as an instinctual process. Space Solo 1 is 44 minutes of otherworldly splashing, ripping, beeping, hissing, etc. An indefinite number of sounds carefully coaxed from unique instruments, drawing a blurry line between ancestral and futuristic. Now available on LP through Taiga, this deluxe audiophile version was mastered direct to metal, pressed on 200 gram transparent red virgin vinyl and is presented in a limited edition of 500 copies. The jacket was cleanly designed by Helder Luís at No Type, featuring the Rui Toscano drawing from the CD version printed on reversed stock with a pantone red flood in the pocket.

Rafael Toral - Space Elements Vol. I LP (Taiga) [TAIGA003LP] $14.75
This is the third in Rafael Toral's Space Program series of releases -- his long-term research project launched in 2004, through which he has unearthed an innovative approach and a complete re-thinking of how electronic music is conceived and experienced. Using custom experimental instruments, Toral performs electronic music concerned with "phrasing and swing" and performing strange melodies with physicality, movement and gesture in flux. The result is something you're unlikely to have heard before, a kind of alien electronic jazz. After the acclaimed, orchestral Space and the follow-up Space Solo 1, this is the first volume of the Space Elements series, each release being focused on one kind of instrument, on small settings and including collaborations. Space Elements Vol. I features Rute Praça (cello), Margarida Garcia (electric double-bass), Sei Miguel's amazing percussionist César Burago, and David Toop (flute), besides a short appearance by Sei Miguel himself. From Toral's liner notes: "Having found that jazz is the field of musical knowledge where disciplined decision-making is most developed, this music is more informed by jazz than by any other. The Space Program emphasizes articulating silence and sound, by structuring musical discourse on experimental instruments with a simple and clear sonic identity. To my surprise, I found no historical precedents to this practice, being that it draws practically no information from electronic music history (which is grounded on different thinking patterns), and it draws very little from jazz history as well, since the instruments I use are inadequate to play any music based on the Western system. I regard this approach to jazz (meaning a system of individual decision-making from the standpoint of free-spectrum live electronics) as a new and exciting field of creative possibilities. I called it 'post-free jazz electronic music.'" Space Elements Vol. I was mastered direct to metal and pressed on clear 200 gram virgin vinyl in a limited edition of 500 copies. The jacket was designed by Helder Luís at No Type and features a collage by contemporary artist João Paulo Feliciano. CD version forthcoming on Staubgold.

Redwan - Stone 12 inch (Roman Photo) [RP009EP] $12.25
"Strong release from Redwan It sounds acid, minimal, old school and modern in the same time. Definitely well done by the boss of the imprint. More, there's a huge peak-time dancefloor killer by Sarah Goldfarb and his friend Sam&Dave&Lowran (Stir/unfoundsound)."

Richard Bartz - Speicher 61 12 inch (Kompakt) [KOMEX061EP] $11.50
The legendary Richard Bartz presents a strong offering for Speicher 61. "Diamond Girl" takes you on a joyride through Schwabing, Munich's famous nightlife and shopping district. On the flipside, he takes you to the dirtier side of town. "All Night Girl" represents everything he stands for: dark, wild and abysmal techno with a slight psychedelic edge to it. Richie knows what he's doing. He's a damn good producer.

Robert Babicz - Boarding 12 inch (Defrag Sound Processing) [DFRG026EP] $10.25
"Our next Defrag release is a gem. Robert Babicz collaborates with Defrag for the first time, after a heavy output on labels such as Audiomatique, Punkt, Treibstoff and K2 in the last few years. Based in Cologne, Robert's take on acid for the 21st century is laden with influences he has picked up in a near 20 year career that has seen him influence a good few artists and styles to boot. Opener 'Boarding' kicks off the weekend with a bright and effervescent journey of soaring synth and crunchy beats. Ethereal interplay between lead melodic lines contribute to an uplifting and complex house gem. Old and new find a special compromise on 'Enjoy,' which merges a Detroit influence with modern percussive bliss. A rasping metallic lead pierces a groove built on throbbing chord patterns and echoed pads. Ending on a 'Montag ,' Robert introduces a dub element to the fray. A slow building melody weaves between glitches and sharp tones in a suspenseful and atmospheric mind treat."

Robert Dietz & Markus Fix - Boston Shunsower 12 inch (Cecille Records) [CEN003EP] $11.50
"After the Cécille001 and Cécille004 Markus Fix comes with another strong deep house groove track together with his friend Robert Dietz, known from the Hit EP on Cécille Numbers002. Both tracks are addicted to the great summer this year and will tease out your last drops of sweat. Hope you enjoy."

Roots Manuva - Again & Again 12 inch (Big Dada) [BD122] $11.25
"Again & Again", the second single from ROOTS MANUVA's forthcoming long-player, Slime & Reason, is a summery blast of warmth and humor with a simple message to impart--one doesn't have to be a plastic, manufactured "Pop Idol" to make popular music that people are going to love. While the album version of the tune is built around a classic Manuva production and CAPTAIN PUGWASH keyboard, the single version was dreamt up by SHY-FX. The man took a day off from drum 'n' bass rollouts and instead added a full horn section and general liveness to get Mr. Manuva in a laid back, celebratory mood. It's a carnival-anthem-in-the-making but with the kind of easygoing charm that should take Manuva to a much, much wider audience without sacrificing any of the soul that has made him one of the UK's most consistent, innovative, and successful performers. The package is rounded out by a couple of very fine remixes from TONY THORPE, who, after recent successes with Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse, has cooked up another fantastic remix as MOODY BOYZ with a militant steppaz feel and enough bass to keep everyone happy.

Roots Manuva - Awfully De/ep 12 inch (Big Dada) [BD83] $8.75

Roots Manuva - Too Cold 12 inch (Big Dada) [BDA782X] $12.00

Rosselot & Francisco Allendes - De Vuelta Al Planeta Tierra 12 inch (Wir) [WIR016EP] $11.50
"The big Chile connection is steadily expanding, and it is fun listening to this process. Which is not necessarily related to physical or virtual networking of producers who are close companions, neither to the friendly reception of new, qualified members or to newborns within the inner circle of the well-established 'family.' The revolutionary sound sinks to fertile ground, stirs, grows, flourishes, takes a rest in between, finally ramifies, meanders, eventually is in the prime of existence, bears fruit, forms new variations to consequently proliferate to a jungle of sound diversity and evolutionary develop further. Marcelo Rosselot and Francisco Allendes, who run the label Andes Music in Santiago de Chile, proceed to improve the system by enriching it with fascinating elements."

RVDS - Lost Whistle 12 inch (It's) [ITS002EP] $11.50
"RVDS, Golden Pudel Club resident, Baroque fetishist, key god, one of the rare sowed, really exceptionally musicians. Essentially the guy is busy with music, music and again music. And the result belongs to the clubs? Yeah, you can listen to the new ITS 002 12", which RVDS recorded at Synthesizer Studio Hamburg (a little electronic smelling room, crammed with analog synths and drum machines) and forged it with A Different Jimi next to his horse farm. How what is that? Lost Whistle - an ode to Ilse Werner (a German whistle artist) or the whistle school in La Gomera? In any case it is a hit which makes you afraid of it because there is magic on it. 'Marzipan Nightmare' - simply to explain: you take 800g raw almond paste and eat this immediately before you're going to sleep. The result is that! 'Hausarrest / Nicht Zu Hause' (House arrest / Not at home) - an ode to house and 'Hausmusic,' which is the German expression for music-making in the home. Fine track! For the clever people: you can fit both tracks together and the result is the real house arrest, which didn't take place at home, but in the clubs of the world."

Scan X - Prism 12 inch (Harthouse) [HHMA022EP] $11.50
"Harthouse is proud to present you the new single of the French primary rock Scan X. Beginning his career in 1993, Stéphane Dri released numerous tracks on numerous labels since then and created an intellectual style of electronic music combined with pure dance floor power. So be prepared for the next dance floor smasher from Scan X. 'Prism': Starting with this licking kicks and the moldy synthesizer purr the prism starts reflecting all the dust and dirt that is hided in the doomed corners of the favorite underground dance machine placed in the basement. And now Stéphane, who also worked together with Laurent Garnier to create the soundtrack of the Cartoon 'Globi,' unpacks his secret weapon. The explosive and driveling bassline licks your meninges till every clear thought is digested and transformed to something undefined that will proceed the dance floor range. Here the experience of years producing for the dance floor, playing on events like Sonar, I Love Techno, Mayday, Montreux Jazz Festival and spinning in clubs like Liquid Room, The End or Space and working on soundtracks for films of Laurent Merlin ('Papa'/'Step By Step') is split by the prism Stéphane builds in nearly seven minutes. 'Prism (Alex Kid Remix)': Here the labelmate of Stéphane, who did the big Mint longplayer and is very successful with the actual album Caracol these days, did this very gushy interpretation of the original 'Prism.' He's taking time to build his strong architecture of his remix. At the beginning of the track you will ask yourself: Where has all the energy gone? But then the kicks and high percussion arrive and make this beat construction roll like there is nothing else to do than dropping trees. Alexkid, who is influenced by the likes of Larry Heard, Phil Spector, Carl Craig, Chateau Flight, Scientist, Radiohead, Sleeparchive or Portishead comes around with the bassline after 4 minutes and so maximizes its pressure in subjective perception. But don't forget the other whirring sounds - they will shave your head if you don't pay attention!"

Scott Grooves - Technique 12 inch (Natural Midi) [NM004EP] $13.50
"Scott Grooves takes us into a deeply brewed Detroit music session with his latest three track release entitled Technique both 'Prove Myself Deep' and 'Adapt' make good use of 303 tinged synths over captivating beats to create a relentless Detroit vibe while 'Patience' uses melodic chords over bumpin' beats! All 3 selections stay true to the rhythm, sound and groove which is becoming the reputation of Scott's imprint. Very limited 12" release, sorry... no blue vinyl this time, but at least it's vinyl!"

Secret Abuse - Violent Narcissus LP (Not Not Fun) [NNF135LP] $15.25
"Secret Abuser Jeff Witscher is an enigma wrapped in a riddle rolled in cassette tape and plugged into a battered pair of towering PA speakers. He's lived everywhere, met everyone, and inspired legions through his lifestyle, utopian fashions ('refugee chic'), and spellbindingly intense music. Up from Rainbow Blanket, through to Impregnable, and across the arid plains of Roman Torment and Deep Jew, Witscher's maintained a singularity of vision and total commitment to execution that has wrecked us, personally, to the point of speechlessness at least a dozen times. But, despite his restlessly shapeshifting spirit, the past year plus has seen him settling slightly deeper into his Secret Abuse sinkhole style, and here's hoping he lingers a while longer, cause it's a f***ing winner. Brutal, pensive, blown-out tones crossfade into tortured minor key guitar laments before being slowly subsumed in a droning ocean of choked vocals and sulking, selfish electronics. Repressed, burning, and emotional like a young man pushing away everything, Violent Narcissus is as definitive a document as has thus far yet emerged from the SA canon (and lord knows there's been a grip of gems). Look long and hard; the mirror is a bitter mistress. Black LPs, mastered by Bill Hutson, housed in jackets designed by Witscher. Edition of 445."

Seph - That Hooded 12 inch (11:00 AM) [11AM005EP] $11.50
"11am welcomes again one of our favorite afterhour artists: Seph from Buenos Aires (Argentina). He offers again one piece of dark and complex musical art. 'That Hooded' is the main and most special track on the release. It's some kind of break minimal with a f***ed up bass and a weird and melancholic melody. It's perfect for breaking out a set. 'Arañas' opens side B, its the deepest track on the release and offers the typical glitchy Seph-style. 'Ivil' ends this fantastic record with a funky bass full of clickclakclickclak and all that. It has been already played by Troy pierce, Magda, etc."

Shackleton - El Din (Part One)/Olde Wobbly 10 inch (Mordant Music) [MORDANT024EP] $11.50
"Mordant Music spore the shellac once again on 10" vinyl with staunch cohort Sam Shackleton. This will be the third missile from the Nesst involving ol' bones himself with a further one already teed up. 'El Din (part one)' on the A unfurls in classic Shackleton fashion deploying his compulsive percussive lure followed by the eventual spilling over of bass and swirling atmospheres for which he is renowned. 'El Din (part one)' throws a blanket over your head from behind and spins you off into the dunes. Over on the AA Mordant Music continue to chart the uneasy rave wake of 'Hummdrumm' with the descending sequencer labyrinth of 'Olde Wobbly.' This claustrophobic ode to stifled corners in densely packed clubs is filled with strange tunings and forlorn fanfares. One for the wrong Moment. Stay perched for the next installment."

Shackleton - Soundboy's Suicide Note 12 inch (Skull Disco) [SKUL010EP] $11.50
"Shackleton continues to push the musical envelope, reaching beyond the realms of dubstep into some dark fissure of future dread history. Drawing from a familiar palette of beats and bass, 'The Rope Tightens...' scatters rambling paranoiac poetry across a rushing moonscape soundstage, reprised in the brooding storm of '...But The branch Is Weak.' 'In the Void' adds dashes of ethnic strings to colour the darkness slightly, and 'Shortwave' finishes up with a rolling barrage of percussion, subs and icy gusts."

Spektre - Slipspace 12 inch (Dance Electric) [DAN021EP] $11.50
"Spektre is already a firm constant in the Dance Electric camp and this is his 5th release on the label. His dark and driving definition of contemporary club music is unique and nobody but him manages to combine weirdo J.S. Bach arpeggios with old school flavored rave melodies tied together in a classy arrangement. Peak time baroque '90s rave - you might need a gas mask and white gloves when entering the 'Slipspace.' 'A Shadow Unfolds' on the flipside is a super spooky & pumping electro house groove with stripped down drums, super-fat bass action and a euphoric synth-flute rave-madness signal on top. Excessive crowd reaction aka screaming and raised hands have been integrated in the track in deadly doses! No joke!"

Stimming - Una Pena 12 inch (Diynamic) [DIYNAMIC017EP] $11.50
"Already a highlight in his live-act, finally here is the release. For 'Una Pena,' Stimming worked with vocals of the Chilean folklore-singer Violeta Parra. It's worth it to surf Wikipedia for this wonderful, versatile and extraordinary woman! But that's not enough, Argy produced a fantastic remix, which shows, as well as his great Focus On Album on Poker Flat, why he is so popular."

Style Of Eye - Duck, Cover & Hold Pt. 1 12 inch (Pickadoll Music) [PICK034EP] $12.25
Linus Eklow aka Style Of Eye has been described as the new sultan of Scando-techno, and this is part one in a two-part taster of his debut album Duck, Cover & Hold. Linus melts down electro bleeps, hysteric synthesizers, raw percussion, minimalism, big-mouthed basses and soulful chords in order to create club-destroying tracks. Crystal-clear trance moments alternate with deep house grooves, and the super-accurate use of SFX in his tracks and the perfectly-timed and ultra-tight arrangements show how much dedication and work he puts into his art. This shit is advanced!

Sun Araw - Beach Head LP (Not Not Fun) [NNF140LP] $15.25
"Debut vinyl full-length by Magic Lantern guitarist, Cameron Stallones. Gorgeous, tripped-out coastal melodies, psychedelic luau vibes, outsider grooves. In Fried Island collage jackets, plus an 11x11 full-color insert."

Sven Tasnadi/Remute - Saturn Return/Decubatio 12 inch (Liebe Detail) [LIEBE024EP] $11.50
"Leipzig-based rising talent Sven Tasnadi delivers a swirling, rushing blend of atmospheric future deep techno. His debut 12'' on Liebe*Detail 20, A Run Into Flowers announced his love for warm, groove-led house music with positive and melodic tendencies, which was followed by a string of equally musical EPs for Cargo Edition, including an acclaimed collaboration with Daniel Stefanik. 'Saturn Return,' his second track for Liebe Detail, is a magical whirlwind trip, perfectly designed for the dancefloor, and utterly mindblowing! Hypnotic and irresistible synth patterns combine, layer and build in an unstoppable and dramatic extended moment of elation. A solid and celebrated favorite amongst the minimal techno scene, his floor-rocking live sets and productions have brought Denis Karimani (aka Remute) the reputation of a force to be reckoned with. 'Decubatio' follows on from the brain-twisting bomb of 'Incubatio,' featured on Liebe*Detail 09. The track is a hyper-produced mass of machine funk mixed with beautiful phases of subtle melody and atmosphere."

The Week That Was - Airport Line 7 inch (Memphis Industries) [MI0129S] $5.00
"FIELD MUSIC's PETER BREWIS 'The Airport Line' from the much acclaimed eponymously titled The Week That Was album, and it's a great example of just how good that record is. The A-side o'er brims with invention, a baroque urgency and regional accents while B-side, 'Learn To Learn (Razmataz Lorry Excitement Remix)' goes down a very different path, laying down highly pleasing, knockabout electropop."-Boomkat

Third Man, The - Clarion Call LP (A.I.) [AI024LP] $17.75
"The first thing likely to hit you with The Third Man's (aka Toby Leeming) debut LP, Clarion Call is the striking cover art. The image is one of a series of anatomical drawings that German artist Karl Wesker devoted 8 years of his life producing for the Thieme Atlas of Anatomy. The limited edition mini-album, a selection of cuts for the DJ, delivers 8 tracks of pristine techno and electro and had The Third Man been the subject used for Karl's graphic illustration, the artist would surely have depicted the deeply electronic blood running through his veins. The Third Man's love of Detroit techno has been exhibited in some of his earlier work and this can again be heard on the album's title track; a mellow atmospheric number with a deep pulse bassline and swirling pianos, definitely a track for the 'morning after.' Influences: UR, Transmat, Metroplex, Basic Channel, Robert Hood, LFO Detroit, Scotland... & Hemsby. Sounds like: A trip through techno and electro, aimed at the dancefloor, but never losing the focus on melody."

Thomas Lehn/Marcus Schmickler - Kölner Kranz LP (A-musik) [A031LP] $21.50
"Kölner Kranz sees a return to a thick molasses of digital smears welded to an ever-present system that unfolds over a staggering 36 minutes which, despite its sheer length, never rests. This music is really quite dense and difficult, heavy on detailing and spontaneity, which means that listening to these tracks takes some effort to get through. Left/right tones cascade in waves over bitmapped crackles as Lehn and Schmickler add layer after layer of events into a seductive audio landscape. Bewilderingly acute and brilliantly played, this release is compulsory listening for those interested in the state of modern electronics." Vinyl-only release, limited to 300 copies.

Tiger Stripes - Blackroom Entertainment 12 inch (Get Physical Music) [GPM097EP] $12.25
Swedish DJ/producer Mikael Nordgren aka Tiger Stripes presents the Blackroom Entertainment EP, showcasing his ability as a formidable contributor to house music. The title track is more evidence of his programming prowess and ability to mold melodies into a sophisticated groove. "Abacus" is analog in approach with springing tones, a cabal of sci-fi sounds, and thick, modulated analog bass that ups the overall energy. Only a seasoned DJ and knowledgeable producer could fabricate such a convincing theme.

Tindersticks - Hungry Saw LP (Constellation) [CST055] $15.75
NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! "The first new TINDERSTICKS album in five years, The Hungry Saw is most certainly a great one, though predictably, it sounds a lot like you'd imagine it to. After all, this is a band who've crafted their own very specific language over the years, so it would be more than a little wasteful to erase all that groundwork by changing things around. STUART STAPLES still sounds like Blakey off On The Buses impersonating Elvis, and he's in marvellous form throughout The Hungry Saw, notably on the title track and the haunting torch song 'Boobar Come Back To Me.' Even when Staples isn't singing, his presence is still felt: 'The Organist Entertains' is an especially beautiful little vignette, sounding like an orchestrally enhanced, instrumental rendition of the frontman's solo single 'Friday Night' from a couple of ears back. Lovely."-Boomkat

Titmachine - We Build A New City / 1989 7 inch (Siltbreeze) [SB107] $6.25

Tobias Felbermayr - Selector 12 inch (Metatron Recordings) [MTR004EP] $11.50
"The newcomer Tobias Felbermayr demonstrates distinctive skills on his debut EP on Metatron-Recordings. The 21-year-old Bavarian convinced Johannes Heil with his tracks, to make him a part of the Metatron-Family. Compact club sounds meet minimal melodies and percussive elements in a good rate. Tobias surprisingly shows cogent musical - but also very good technical skills in his productions. Hand made bassdrums, crisp sounding percussions and the addiction to discrete melodies. The theme in the A1 track 'Selector' is the conversation of a groovy bassline with a percussion sound that freaks out more and more! The conversation escalates to a fight while the first break and transforms steadily with the assistance of noises and a hypnotic melody. D. Diggler is responsible for the RMX of 'Selector.' He achieves amazingly to absorb his favorite parts and completes them with some edgy sounds, which takes the track to another level. The third track of the EP is called 'Cyan.' It starts with a long mystical, atmospheric intro, which is abruptly replaced by a giant BD-dominated-groove. The two breaks are filled with a pumpin' bassline which freaks totally out and guarantees yelling! Later the atmospheres return and everything melts together. The last tune called 'Primus' is a trippin´ showdown and a homage to the club sound he prefers. Electrofied melodies lay in a hard padded bed of Drums. With hard breaks, this track boosts it to the max. A fabulous debut!"

TRG - Post Rave Blues Pt. 1 10 inch (Tube10) [TUBE10001EP] $11.50
"Subway presents their latest project Tube10, a limited 10" inch series of deep minimalistic sounds within the dubstep spectrum. Just like with Subway, TRG is going to kick off the label with two awesome tracks in true TRG style. First up it's 'Post Rave Blues.' This tune is so complex it sounds like an interlude for something far more bigger. A mixture between house, idm, dubstep, rave and the atmospheric drum & bass from back in the days. This tune will take you back ? way, way back! On the flip we find 'Less Music.' This production could easily be the embodiment of the term 'minimalistic' upfront TRG breaks getting combined with gentle strings and the ever so addicting rebel flow."

Unitz - The Drop 12 inch (Dub Police) [DP019EP] $11.50
"Another anthem from the massive Dub Police label. 'The Drop' is off the hinges! Having received massive amounts of airplay both on Rinse FM and Kiss FM as well as the live circuit this is sure to fly off the shelves. London based DJ Unitz started Dj'ing from age 8 and began producing from the age of 13, expect big things from this producer! Rinsed by Caspa, Rusko, DJ Orien, The Others, Mary Anne Hobbes, Subscape, Oris Jay & N-Type."

Whitehouse - Asceticists 2006 LP (Very Friendly) [VFSL016LP] $21.50
"'However artfully framed on white gallery walls, I can look you in the eyes and see what you spend your time doing when it gets dark and messy.' To experience the incredible Asceticists 2006, is to bare your fragile soul beyond what you would normally wish to know amidst ear-shredding afro noise madness of each of the seven tracks."

Wouldbenice - Backlash 12 inch (Vidab) [VIDAB007EP] $10.25
"Pumping, pumping, pumping: Andre Goc a.k.a. Wouldbenice seems to know one modus operandi, and one only. The main attraction in this epic blockbuster is without a doubt his bass drum, rolling straightforward, telling a highly dramatic story with the simplest of means and staying honest throughout the process. Listening to that monster of an A-side, you may just have witnessed the boldest bass drum in human history. Driven by hi-hats seemingly made out of surgical steel, this EP chooses the direct way to the floor, tosses aside everything dispensable and establishes a steady alliance with the prime time. This is the oily 'Internationale' of house, a three-legged hymn to the vintage sound of the Bermuda triangle Chicago-Detroit-Berlin. Garnished with a scent of digital blackness and some elliptic bouncing on the b-side, this record presents itself as a certified essential for the spinning people, staying strong and simple on the party of your choice."

Wounded Lion - Carol Cloud 7 inch (S-S) [SS041EP] $5.75
"Los Angeles gets a bad rap. Through our TV sets, we know it as a city of shallow glitter, brutal cops, and urban unrest?and, sure, there is that, but there are also lots of everyday folks, living unpretentious everyday lives. We also forget that Los Angeles has had a very healthy underground music scene, as it does today. Take the everyday folks and drop them into an underground scene and you get something like Wounded Lion, a great no-frills pop band who sounds fresh, even when they remind one of classic American power pop of the '70s. Inspired by The Amps, The Cramps, The Clean, and The Vaselines (as well as Credence Clearwater Revival and Kleenex), Wounded Lion can regularly be seen in LA haunts such as Mr. T's Bowl, The Smell, The Scene, and Spaceland. And now you get to hear them here, on their recording debut. The songs 'Carol Cloud' and 'Pony People' are two great poppers, hum-inducing, toe-tapping tunes which will wiggle their way into your brain and have you singing their choruses while at the grocery store or waiting in line at the DMV. This is perfect pop for the dying days of summer and the start of a new school year. Wounded Lion! 600 pressed."

Zed Bias - The Cauldron 12 inch (Side Stepper Records) [SDSTPR001EP] $11.50
"Zed Bias - a legendary figure in the darker side of UK Garage, and massive influence on the birth of dubstep along with producers like El-B, Noodles, Wookie, Oris Jay and Horsepower Productions - has more recently concentrated on deep house / funk / rap hybrids. Now, though, there's a massive buzz in the dubstep community and beyond at the news that he's brought back the Sidestepper label on which his most influential stripped-down and bass-heavy productions were released, and is promising releases this and every month. Sidestepper was originally launched by Zed Bias in 1998 to platform his darker, more experimental work alongside his more commercially viable productions on more established labels. This imprint allowed Zed & friends to write, record and release tracks quickly - feeding off and straight back onto the dance floor. 2008 marks both the 10th anniversary of the label and a fresh representation of the skills that have always put Zed at the forefront of UK dance music innovation."

Ziggy Kinder - Flipflop Crash 12 inch (Souvenir Music) [SOUVENIR010EP] $11.50
Ziggy Kinder returns to Souvenir Music with "Flipflop Crash" -- another typically Ziggy workout destined for a discerning international dancefloor. Disorientating percussion and flanging effects dance around an insistent throbbing bass line while a female vocal whispers in French. Chilean star Pier Bucci takes up the remix reins, stripping the vocals back to a minimum to make way for an epic delay-soaked synth hook. It's a remix destined for the end of a night.

Zombie Zombie - Dog Walker 12 inch (Versatile) [VER061EP] $11.50
After their album A Land For Renegades and a worldwide tour where their live performance rocks the crowd, Zombie Zombie came back into the studio to deliver us "Dog Walker," a percussive song in the vein of Liquid Liquid, no doubt their more club-friendly track! Danton Eeprom takes care of remixing "Texas Rangers" for a minimal funk riot which will haunt you. Tune alert!

3 Hur-el - Hur-El Arsivi LP (Guerssen Records) [GUESS056LP] $25.75
"...and their second longplayer which came out in 1976 also on Diskötur, this is an absolute killer of an album and easily one of the top Turkish ones. It has a more Western feel. Feridun was here infected by fuzz virus and his two-arm guitar (one for guitar, one for saz) will give you no rest. Also there's much more drums than percussion now, so we get an astounding blend of psychedelic rock with Turkish tradition, plenty of distorted fuzz guitar and electric saz. Comes with an insert, liners and photos."

3 Hur-el - 3 Hur-el LP (Guerssen Records) [GUESS057LP] $25.75
"One of the very few, if not the only, Turkish groups not doing any covers but only self-penned compositions, the mighty 3 Hür-El were three brothers: Onur, Haldun and Feridun Hürel. Having played together for their whole life, it was in the late '60s when they took the 3 Hür-El name, and they released two wonderful albums that we're now making available for you vinyl freaks. This one's their debut, originally released in 1972. A brilliant set of Turkish ethno-influenced folk-rock tracks with a psychedelic feel, some great electric guitar and fantastic Eastern percussion. A very rare album now available again, with mastertape sound and coming with an insert, liners and photos."

Cluster - Sowiesoso LP (4 Men With Beards) [4M162] $16.00
MOEBIUS and ROEDELIUS (aka CLUSTER), released this, their fourth album in 1976. Electronic rhythms combine with bubbling synths, piano and guitar to create sonic landscapes of pure bliss. Some of the greatest ambient electronic music ever, Cluster were on the cutting edge of German space-rock, and pioneers whose influence can still be felt today.

Fairport Convention - What We Did On Our Holidays LP (4 Men With Beards) [4M157] $16.00
The second FAIRPORT CONVENTION album, originally released in 1969, is the first to feature the beautifully haunting vocals of the legendary SANDY DENNY. What We Did On Our Holidays contains some of the Fairport Convention's finest moments, including Denny's own "Fotheringay," RICHARD THOMPSON's "Meet Me On The Ledge" and their stunning take on Bob Dylan's "I'll Keep It With Mine." This LP finds the Fairport Convention moving away from the California folk-rock of their debut album towards a more British approach to similar material. It is also the last full LP to feature IAN MATTHEWS on vocals.

Fairport Convention - Unhalfbricking LP (4 Men With Beards) [4M158] $16.00
Unhalfbricking, originally released in 1969, was a transitional album for FAIRPORT CONVENTION, as vocalist (and American folk-rock enthusiast) IAN MATTHEWS left midway through the recording. As a result the band looked further into their own country's folk traditions for influence, as their decidedly British style was cemented by the addition of DAVE SWARBRICK's fiddle. This is not to say that Unhalfbricking is a weak album, on the contrary, it is a stone cold classic and includes some of the band's finest material including their take on Dylan's "Percy's Song," the traditional "A Sailor's Life," and one of SANDY DENNY's finest compositions in "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?"

Godflesh - Godflesh LP (Kreation) [LPGODFLGODF] $14.75
Self titled release originally recorded in 1988. Some serious history here. Beautiful... depressing... and genius... GODFLESH at its earliest and finest. Considered by many their heaviest album, extremely dark and industrial, but in the best way possible. They defined and created a genre at the same time. Contains the full EP version plus the bonus songs featured on the reissue of the CD.
