A Slow Rip - For The Time Being 2CD (Endgame) [END020]

Boutros Bubba - Hearing Voicst in a Beer Commercial Makes Me
Wanna Get Drunk CD-R (Narrominded) [NM021] $11.00
'Hearing Voicst in a Beer Commercial Makes Me Wanna Get Drunk' is the
first
effort by Boutros Bubba. Guitarist/vocalist Spoelstra and drummer Vreselijk
Ongeluk are doing what they do best: rock and counting MATH STYLE. A
delirious record with delirious artwork included.
Boutros Bubba - National Anthems CD (Narrominded) [NM034]
$15.00
Narrominded presents National Anthems, the first full album by the
Dutch
rock band Boutros Bubba. Boutros Bubba is a rock band, consisting of
musicians that have formerly played in Gone Bald, Petrified Host, Quarles
van Ufford, SGP and Crowd Surfers Must Die. Boutros Bubba's music is like a
road with a sturdy asphalt surface, but with treacherously slippery
patches. At points in their music the fundament of heavy drumming and tight
guitar riffs gives way to swaggering drinking music and suspenseful
improvisations. Not only in the lyrics, but also in the music itself, there
is a deep sense of absurdism. National Anthems is the first full album of
Boutros Bubba, after the cd EP Hearing Voicst In A Beer Commercial Makes Me
Wanna Get Drunk and the 7" How I Wrote The Star Spangled Banner. The cd
National Anthems was recorded in Sing-Sing studios in the North of the
Netherlands and was later sublimely mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago
Mastering Service. During forty minutes a parade of country
musicians-turned-religious maniacs and dominant clowns, of puzzled
barfighters and inexorable drunks, of melancholic weathermen and
cryptosexist office workers passes by in the form of nine tightly played
rocksongs. National Anthems is released in co-operation with My Own Music
Industry Recordings and Whosbrain Records.
Coen Oscar Polack - Geluiden Uit De Blauwe Kamer CD-R
(Narrominded) [NM036] $13.00
Narrominded presents three new releases by Coen Oscar Polack. This
exciting
triptych takes you on a journey from a sultry nature reserve in the Dutch
province of Utrecht to the rain soaked mountain slopes of Northeast India.
These three cd's have in common that they are all based on field
recordings. On The Language of Mountains Is Rain Polack, together with
Herman Wilken (half of electronica duo Hydrus) works these recordings into
a musical context. Geluiden uit De Blauwe Kamer is a recording of a
performance/installation in a nature reserve and The Skipping Monk is a
collage of recordings of nature and culture that Polack made in India.
Commissioned by Utrechts Landschap, Coen Oscar Polack recorded sounds in
the Dutch nature reserve De Blauwe Kamer (translates literally as The Blue
Room). He worked the sounds into a performance/installation for the
occasion of the opening of a new visitor's centre for the area. Geluiden
uit De Blauwe Kamer is a summary of this event. However based on real-life
sounds from the area, the cd is an artificial soundscape of an intensity
rarely heard in Dutch nature.

October and November 2008 Polack spent six weeks in India. The 22 chunks of
sound on The Skipping Monk are recordings he made at various sites on the
subcontinent. In the serene surroundings of the eastern Himalayas, but also
in the swirling madness of metropolitan Kolkata and Mumbai Polack recorded
entrancing rituals, faltering electronics and bustling nature. Coen Oscar
Polack is one of four people behind the Narrominded label. His musical
career started in Psychon Troopers (later known as Psychon) and since 2002
he makes electronic music with Lars Meijer as Living Ornaments (with
releases on Narrominded, Skam and Scarcelight). He performs regularly as a
solo musician using field recordings, saxophone and electronics. In 2007
Narrominded released his first solo effort Psychic Investigations.

The Language of Mountains Is Rain Wilken and Polack made two long
improvisations based on field recordings and custom-built software. They
started working together after they were programmed to do a performance
together at Amsterdam's Zaal 100. The result is an intriguing game of
frequencies in which music and noise fight for higher ground.
d_rradio - d_rradio remixed CD (Distraction) [DIST12R]
$14.90
Ten reworks of the tracks on the now-sold-out d_rradio album, these
wide-ranging remixes eschew the blandscape coffee-table Warp-alikes and
display that electronic music can be diverse, invigorating, soulful and,
above all, human.
Gone Bald - Exotic Klaustrofobia CD (Narrominded) [NM014]
$13.00
The Amsterdam-based band Gone Bald is Razorblade Jr. (guitar, vocals),
Stanley Disko (bass) and Bubba de Vries (drums). The band originated in
1994. After diverse releases on labels like Kekere Acquarium, 100%
Recordings and FBWL records, they released the critically acclaimed cd
'Soul Vacation in Rehab Clinic' in 2003 on the Austrian label Interstellar
Records. The Gone Bald history is a story of hardship and many line-up
changes, but with 'Exotic Klaustrofobia' the band finally finds the
ultimate line-up. Constant factor Razorblade Jr. plays more passionate than
ever, drummer Bubba tight and sophisticated and bass player Stanley fills
in the low end with a helicopter of bass sounds. The three of them have
recorded this new album and it sounds better than the group have ever
sounded before. 2004 was a year of extensive touring in Europe and marked
the ten year anniversary of the band, which was celebrated with a festival
in Amsterdam with acts like The Ex, Living Ornaments, Makazoruki and Peach
Pit (Croatia). In 2005 they will support the release of 'Exotic
Klaustrofobia' with their excellent and already legendary live
performances.
Guided By Voices - Suitcase 3: Up We Go Now CD Box (GBV Inc)
[GBVI08] $28.75
Up We Go Now is the third in the Suitcase series of unreleased ROBERT
POLLARD / GUIDED BY VOICES tracks excavated from a suitcase of cassettes in
his closet. Like the previous two volumes, Suitcase 3 includes 100 songs on
four compact discs in a box. Disc 4 is an acoustic jam session by Pollard,
TOBIN SPROUT, AND GREG DEMOS in 1994-1995 (the period between GBV classics
Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes). Suitcase 3 comes in eco-friendly slim
cardboard CD cases. Limited edition, one-time only pressing.
Katadreuffe - Quel Gargantua? CD (Narrominded) [NM043]
$13.00
Narrominded presents Quel Gargantua!, the first EP by the Dutch rock
band
Katadreuffe. With Quel Gargantua! Narrominded adds the work of a very
original band to its catalogue. An almost constant rhythmic tension and a
contrast between high frequency and "delayed" atmospheric guitar parts are
some of the music's most prominent features. Musically, Katadreuffe
incorporates elements from post-hardcore, noise, shoegaze, post-punk and
pop. Katadreuffe was formed in Amsterdam in 2005. The band was named after
the main character of a novel by Ferdinand Bordewijk called Character
(1938). Not necessarily because the band members liked or loved the book
all that much (only one or two have actually read it, none of them own a
copy) but simply because it has a nice ring to it (in Dutch, at least).
Besides, practically every other band-name is already taken, so what else
are you going to call your band, right? There are four members in
Katadreuffe. Ruben Braeken (1984) plays guitar; Maarten Broekhuizen (1982)
plays guitar and sings (sort of); Michiel van Overmeire (1982) plays bass,
synthesizer and sings; and, Timothy Plevier (1982) plays drums. Almost all
members are currently active in one or two other bands as well. In the
summer of 2008, Katadreuffe spent three days at Corno Zwetsloot's Next to
Jaap studio in Voorhout recording and mixing their first EP entitled Quel
Gargantua!. This session resulted in four songs, which were then mastered
by James Plotkin in Hoboken, New Jersey. The physical cd release comes
packaged in a nice handmade sleeve that took days - maybe weeks - of work
by the members of Katadreuffe.
Living Ornaments - Vlokken CD (Narrominded) [NM017]
$13.00
Living Ornaments is the in-house project of Narrominded. It is a
platform
for the founders of the label, Lars Meijer and Coen Polack, to let their
musical fantasy run wild. Reoccuring elements are strong melodies, piano,
guitar and a constantly shifting, changing and reconfiguring haze of
clicks, hiss and buzz. Vlokken is the first full length effort by Living
Ornaments after two EP's (Ribbels in Narrominded Split LP Series and
Klonten on Scarcelight) and a contribution to the Skam Cats compilation.
Living Ornaments - Korrels CD-R (Narrominded) [NM035]
$13.00
Narrominded presents new albums by trusted Narrominded artists: Living
Ornaments and Psychon. Both groups have been active on the label for almost
a decade and with their new work they show they still have an absolute
fresh and a very own vision on music. With their previous record Vlokken
(2006) Living Ornaments created a classic in Dutch electronica. Korrels is
the second album by the duo and has, besides the trusted elements like
guitars, piano and broken samples, an important role for synthesizers. With
Korrels Living Ornaments choose for a bolder approach and a clearer
structure in their songs. But still, a track like Plunderaar - that was
commissioned by the VPRO and was made with Japanese musical instruments
from the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague - contains a truckload of ideas. It is
a result of two musical brains that see the recording process as an
abundantly equipped playground. Living Ornaments previously released music
on labels like Skam and Scarcelight Recordings and played on the )TOON)
Festival in Haarlem and in the national Dutch television program Vrije
Geluiden.
Loachfillet - Electric Pond: Solar Solution CD (Resipiscent)
[RSPT033] $12.00
Loachfillet dwells on the lakebed of a lifelong musical vision where
analogue synth, beaten bass, tape loops and aging electronics yield sound
too crushingly deep to ever escape. From a funneling eddy at the start of
track one, down you go, kicking at the sky, descending his bubble column to
a booming bass guitar wreck shimmering with algae. You plunge deeper still,
down ten expansive tracks to the finale, titled Hell, with waves so heavy
they'd buckle prettier heads. You're here to stay, lungs full at last.
Lucy Show, The - Undone CD (Words On Music) [WM28]
$12.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-24-2009
Signposts: The Cure, Jesus & March Chain, The Beatles. Nearly 25 years
since its release, Undone, the 1985 debut by the London quartet The
Lucy Show, remains an essential work in the British post-punk oeuvre.
Produced by Steve Lovell (Blur, James) and Steve Power (Robbie Williams,
Blur), Undone injects howling guitars and psychedelic flourishes into
bittersweet pop songs with hook-laden choruses.
Available now for the first time on CD, when Undone was originally released, The Lucy Show was filling to capacity London venues like the Marquee Club and the Lyceum Ballroom. Across the Atlantic, the record landed at #1 on the U.S. college radio charts, with a tour across America soon to follow.
Throughout Undone guitars ring and beautiful chaos takes root, with songs alternately injecting hints of Beatles imagery both melodic ("Come Back to the Living," "Remain") and experimental ("Undone," "Dream Days") onto post-punk soundscapes.
But the importance of Undone extends well
beyond its post-punk canvas, which, on songs like "Dream Days," conjures up
Psychocandy with both noise and melody to spare. As Big Takeover Editor
Jack Rabid writes, Undone is a "Touchstone bridging the early
Magazine/Bunnymen/Sound/Comsat Angels U.K. post-punk pinnacle and the House
of Love and Stones Roses emergence, sparking the shoegaze-dreampop
explosion."
Makazoruki - Makazoruki CD (Narrominded) [NM016] $13.00
It is with considerable pride that Narrominded announces the debut
album by
Makazoruki. Singer Skusho, guitarplayer Alen, bassplayer Bacho and drummer
Cigi left the studio with a magnificent waverock album in their hands. The
material on Makazoruki reminds of dirtier moments in the Sonic Youth
catalogue and The Chameleons at the peak of their powers. The lyrics of
these emotional songs are written from a very personal approach to English
grammar. All members of Makazoruki are from Bosnia, but they currently
reside in and around Amsterdam.
Makazoruki - Analogue Breakfast CD (Narrominded) [NM028]
$13.00
After a very well-received debut album, Makazoruki bring us an EP that
is
even better. This foursome is one of the most exciting bands in the Dutch
music scene today. Singer Skusho, guitarplayer Alen, bassplayer Baco and
drummer Cigi l have once again crafted some magnificent waverock. The songs
on Analogue Breakfast are a taster of Makazoruki's new material.
Moira Stewart - Sweetness, Yes! CD (Distraction) [DIST14]
$14.90
Upbeat, fun, shambolic electro/guitar pop is the order of the day;
Quirky,
jerky, bonkers and brilliant.
Necro Deathmort - This Beat Is Necrotronic CD (Distraction)
[DIST19] $14.90
Running the full gambit from jittering, skuttering brutal electronics,
Earth-style drones (back when they had balls), creamy hiss, turntablist
noise pedal effect antics, crushing guitars, elegant ballroom atmospherics,
to full-on balls-out full decaying post-apocalyptic doom, this combines
analogue and digital noise to devastating effect.
Omni (Kato Hideki / Toshimaru Nakamura / Tetuzi Akiyama) - Omni
CD (Presquile) [PSQ003] $17.79
Time is an essential subject in music. Conventionally, musical time
moves
in one direction on a linear plane. OMNI was co-founded by myself,
Toshimaru Nakamura & Tetuzi Akiyama in 2006, to make music that develops in
the depth of time. . We visualized the three of us on separate trains going
through tunnels, rather than riding together on a linear time-table. Prior
to the performance, each of us came up with individual sequences, without
telling the others what we would do. . The result was many layers of
moments that were transfixed in the recording, like a photograph taken with
a long exposure.
Psychon - Apocalypse Has Been Dubbed The Weekend Pill CD
(Narrominded) [NM013] $13.00
Prince's brand of funk, rock according to Guided by Voices, German and
British electronica and the free spirit of John Coltrane are but a small
taste of influences that make up the new Psychon cd. 'Apocalypse has been
dubbed the weekend pill' has been recorded on and off over the last two
years. As a result two years of collective musical influences and ideas
have been given a place in this music. Freejazz, krautrock, ambient,
electronica and arenarock are concurring to remain in focus and while doing
so they form interesting hybrids. To give an example: this cd without a
doubt contains the most exciting guitarsolo in electronica today. The
titles of the tracks on this record originate in spam-mailmessages. With
some amazement the members of Psychon have collected the most amazing
mail-subjects and advertisements from the world of gloomy pharmacy, penile
enlargement and corporate selfhelp-courses. 'Apocalypse has been dubbed the
weekend pill' is the first cd by the group formerly known as Psychon
Troopers, an incarnation that delivered six cd's. The musicians in Psychon
are Lars Meijer, Jantijn Prins and Coen Polack. Meijer and Polack are also
in charge of the Narrominded record label and the two of them make music as
Living Ornaments.
Psychon - Slow Country For Old Men CD (Narrominded) [NM032]
$13.00
Narrominded presents new albums by trusted Narrominded artists: Living
Ornaments and Psychon. Both groups have been active on the label for almost
a decade and with their new work they show they still have an absolute
fresh and a very own vision on music. It was 2004, when the album
Apocalypse Has Been Dubbed The Weekend Pill was released, when we last
heard from Psychon. Now, five years later, Slow Country For Old Men is
completed and it has been worth the wait. Nothing has changed in the
eccentric complexity of the music of Psychon and the eclectic mould of all
sorts of musical styles is also back. The gents of Psychon see their new
record as a result of changing musical taste during the last five years
they built, mixed and molded these ten tracks. So be aware of shreds of
hip-hop, field recordings, electronic minimalism and acoustic maximalism.
There's even a little bit of reggae to be discovered.
Ralph White and the Horaflora Soundsystem - Ralph White and the
Horaflora Soundsystem CD (Resipiscent) [RSPT034] $12.00
Chain-draped kalimba played with the soft speed of Texas banjo, fiddle
and
accordion master Ralph White, its acoustic distortions convoluted through a
range of materials (rigged to transducers) in Horaflora's custom-built
sound system, yield a crumbling wet firmament of timbres. The songs by
which the sounds were discovered are transfixing, psychedelic,
transporting; in fact, they invite site-specific listening: Binaural
methods make track one best suited to headphones, track two must be heard
outdoors, track three includes unadulterated Weddell seals and is best
heard underwater. Lose your map, this is music uncharted.
Rothkam - Alt CD (Baskaru) [karu15] $17.79
He cultivates enigmas. He leaves no one cold. He could be the next
genius
the right-thinking avant-garde will be late to discover. He is Rothkamm,
but his friends call him Frank Rothkamm. This composer, philosopher, and
conceptual artist can turn music (electronic and otherwise) into thought
territory, an abstract playground, or even a smoke screen. In fact,
Rothkamm is a magician, a prestidigitation theoretician, and a carny all in
one. The oeuvre he is building one CD at a time seems to be designed to
sidetrack listeners (and better push them onward), deconstruct accepted
ideas (and better reinvent them), and elevate contradiction to the rank of
art form (so as to better critique it).
Social Interiors - Spacial Circumference CD (Endgame) [END007]
$18.00
Environmental Soundscape
Social Interiors - Traces Of Mercury CD (Extrme) [XCD040]
$17.50
Environmental Soundscape
Social Interiors - The World Behind You CD (Extrme) [XCD029]
$17.50
Environmental Soundscape
Summer Night Air - 3 CD (Distraction) [DIST6] $14.90
Minimal drones and a sense of naivety and innocence that's so beautiful
it
could ooze out of your hi-fi speakers and drip onto your carpet.
Tegan Northwood - Last Days Of Home CD (Endgame) [END021]
$18.00
Ambient Pop
Tempelhof - We Were Not There For The Beginning, We Won't Be
There For The End CD (Distraction) [DISTtempelhof] $14.90
Downpours of cymbal-like hiss, mournful keys and lush downtempo beauty.
Various Artists - Retro Retry #1: Evol CD (Narrominded) [NM023]
$13.00
On this cd ten Dutch bands cover Sonic Youth's classic underground
rockalbum EVOL. This album was released in a cd version of 500 copies and
distributed with That Dam! Magazine issue 9.99. Lee Ranaldo contributed a
poem to the magazine. A few copies of the cd are still available.
Various Artists - Another Another Green World CD (Narrominded)
[NM041] $15.00
On the cd Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World fourteen Dutch
electronic artists cover Brian Eno's album Another Green World (1975),
which is considered a timeless masterpiece, in its entirety. The
revolutionary work of Brian Eno is of big influence on the development of
electronic pop music and ambient. 'Another Green World is an album that
ties together various styles and musical ideas in a brilliant way. Our
record label has the same eclectic approach. That made this album a perfect
choice for this project', says Coen Polack of Narrominded. FFF, Polycorn,
Legowelt, Rude 66, Coen Oscar Polack, Spoelstra, This Is Total War, Garçon
Taupe, Nanko, Baba Electronica & DJ Lonely, Hakki Takki, Puin + Hoop,
Hunter Complex, Hydrus. The artwork for the digipack sleeve was designed by
Willehad Eilers. The cd was mastered by Alden Tyrell.

Brilliant Colors - Introducing CD (Slumberland) [SL108]
$12.00
Singer / guitarist JESS SCOTT started BRILLIANT COLORS in early 2007,
and
she's been mighty busy since then. After a steady stream of line-up
changes, Scott has finally settled on a permanent line-up with the addition
of East Coast transplants DIANE ANASTASIO and MICHELLE HILL (a veteran of a
number of Bay Area underground punk outfits, as well as touring guitarist
for legendary UK punk / dub group THE SLITS!). Following up two sold-out
singles (on Make a Mess and Captured Tracks) and mounting fervor from all
corners of the pop underground blog-o-world, Brilliant Colors' debut album
is as an undeniable contender for best pop record of 2009. The band has
honed their songwriting to a fine edge, delivering ten tracks of sharp,
subtly catchy indie pop that finds them more assuredly rounding out the
corners of their DIY-punk-meets-Shop Assistants, '78-'86 pop collision.
Vinyl includes a digital download.
Broken Note - Terminal Static CD (Ad Noiseam) [adn117]
$16.00
The long wait is finally over. After two very remarked single 12" on Ad
Noiseam, Broken Note unleash their first full length release, in the form
of a CD featuring their past vinyl-only discography, plus a couple of
tracks that had never been released on either formats and remixes by Hecq
and Enduser.
Chad Price - Smile Sweet Face CD (Suburban Home) [SH157]
$10.25
"Smile Sweet Face features ten songs recorded with CHRIS FOGAL at Black
in
Bluhm Studios. Most of the tracks feature stripped down arrangements mostly
with CHAD PRICE on vocals and acoustic guitar. RICK STEF (LUCERO) came in
and recorded accordion on three tracks. The songwriting finds Chad picking
up where tracks like 'Tobacco Fields' and 'Death of the Life of the Party'
left off from DRAG THE RIVER's You Can't Live This Way. Fans of Chad
Price's songwriting are in for an absolute treat. Chad Price for over the
past 10 years has been playing with Jon Snodgrass in the Suburban Home act,
Drag the River, a band they both started when Chad wasn't on tour with his
other band at the time, ALL."
Charlie Louvin - Sings Murder Ballads & Disaster Songs CD
(Tompkins Square) [TSQ2127] $12.75
NOW AVAILABLE!!! Although some might be surprised at a thematic CHARLIE
LOUVIN album dealing with death and destruction, one needn't look any
further than the very first LOUVIN BROTHERS album to find a connection.
Tragic Songs of Life, released in 1956, is full of emotional songs
detailing heartbreak, betrayal, violence and loss. Inspired by Tompkins
Square's recent Grammy-nominated 3xCD box set People Take Warning! Murder
Ballads & Disaster Songs, 1913-1938, Charlie reached back for a couple of
songs from that first Louvins album, and pulled five songs from the box set
to create a moving and sometimes raucous new take on traditional songs of
tragedy.
Cinnaman & Jay Scarlett - Beat Dimensions Vol. 2 CD (Rush Hour)
[RH109CD] $16.00
This is the second volume of Rush Hour's genre-defying Beat Dimensions
series, compiled by Dutch beat-masters Cinnaman and Jay Scarlett. Volume 2
continues where the first left off, featuring 20 exclusive beats and
instrumentals from forward-thinking producers such as Danny Breaks, Dorian
Concept, Dimlite, Ras G, Samiyam, Exile, and Fulgeance, plus sick sounds
from new kids Nosaj Thing, Dizz1, Low Limit, Tiago, Devon, and more. This
compilation touches on many different angles of this type of music. From
tripped-out and buzzing synth-scapes to full-on MPC-made party-thumpers,
there's a lot in here. Beat Dimensions has helped set the tone for the
developments in beat-oriented music, becoming almost a genre in itself.
Other artists include: Zo aka La Chauve-Souris, P.U.D.G.E., Mike Slott,
Mono/Poly, Erik L, Kenlo Craqnuques, Dalt Wisney, and Busy.
Claw Hammer - Deep In The Heart Of Nowhere CD (Munster) [MR292]
$20.75
This live album is a mighty sonic document of one of the most
unclassifiable American bands of the 1990s. In the middle of a 1995 tour
where their noise rock was often met by the indifference and
incomprehension of audiences not ready for such full-on assault,CLAW HAMMER
registered a show in Dallas that reveals the unique, wild and physical
style only they possessed.
Dadfag - Scenic Abuse CD (Broken Rekids) [SKIP114]
$12.00
DADFAG are a blistering young San Francisco three-piece that has
been
kicking the West Coast's ass for a couple of years at house parties,
warehouses, and clubs. The band members-two girls on vocals, a boy on
drums-fled from the South, sweaty, bored, and sick of explaining
themselves. The trio started practicing as Dadfag shortly thereafter in a
borrowed practice space in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood. One
year, 30 songs and 17,000 shows later, EVA HANNAN, ALAN MIKNIS, and
DANIELLE BENSON are still playing with dildos, baking pies, and making
people uncomfortable. The Broken Rekids promotional department would like
to mention that the music and vocals are reminiscent of Sonic Youth and
Lydia Lunch mixed with hardcore punk. Scenic Abuse is their debut CD. LP
version to follow in January.
Dead Voices On Air - The Light of June Dried Flowers In Your
Mouth CD (Brudenia) [10676] $32.00
RELEASE DATE: 11-02-2009
"The Light of June Dried Flowers in her Mouth," is the second release
by
Dead Voices on Air in 2009, the first being the double cd album, "Fast
Falls the Eventide," for Chicago's Lens Records. It is the 12th release by
Mark Spybey under the Dead Voices on Air name and the first to be released
on vinyl. It's limited to 350 copies only. Don't be surprised if it sells
out quickly.
The album was recorded in a three-week period in June of 2009. Many of the characteristic Dead Voices on Air sounds are present; the dark clusters of processed tones, shifting rhythms, fourth world overtones, and the use of unlikely source instruments such as children's toys. Unlike many of his releases, this is an attempt to peel some of the layers of sound away. It is only in the final track, "You Are Too Young to Fall Asleep," that Spybey raises the anti and the volume in the shifting waves and pulses of sounds whose origins cannot easily be identified, save for the fact that (contrary to the popular opinion of reviewers) absolutely no synthesizers were used in the recording sessions.
Spybey has been
reluctant to talk about what his music means to him, preferring to afford
the listener the opportunity to experience this for themselves. The music
is generally made in isolation from external references but for this
release, key texts informed the recording sessions, notably the poetry of
Pablo Neruda and that of Stephen Spender. Spender fought for the
International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War and Neruda lived in Spain
at the time and was deeply affected by the struggle against fascism. The
album title was taken from a line of one of Neruda's poems. The album is
dedicated to the International Brigades and their struggle against the
governments of the time whose antipathy did little to prevent the spread of
fascism. Many artists lost their lives in this struggle, including Federico
Garcia Lorca, who was executed by forces loyal to the dictator Franco.
Detritus - Things Gone Wrong CD (Ad Noiseam) [adn121]
$16.00
Detritus's fourth full length album is both a general update of what
could
be hinted at with the previous three and this act's opening to new
territory. Very detailed, and combining both ferocious drum'n'bass moments
with delicate and touching melodies, "Things Gone Wrong" caresses, kicks
and impresses as Detritus's most crafted. A treat for the fan, and an
excellent snapshot of what this act is about for the newcomers.
DJ Hidden - The Words Below CD (Ad Noiseam) [adn118]
$16.00
Offering a sequel to what is already seen as a masterpiece wasn't an
easy
task for DJ Hidden. And still, "The Words Below" manages to take this
producer sharp, beautiful and percussive sound a step higher than 2007's
"The Later After". Intense, crisp and varied, this new album doesn't only
confirm that DJ Hidden is at the very top of the pyramid of drum'n'bass
producer, but forces us to ask ourselves how we could have thought
otherwise.
DOA - Kings Of Punk, Hockey And Beer CD (Sudden Death)
[SDR0085] $13.25
DOA, Canada's punk legends and the originators of hardcore, are set to
pummel with a great new album. Kings of Punk, Hockey and Beer finds DOA
returning to their roots. This album is a knock-'em-down,
beat-'em-in-the-alley affair that combines the three most important things
in the DOA world: punk, hockey, and beer! The boys smash you into the
corner with the anthemic "Donnybrook," then they slash you with "Dead Men
Tell No Tales," and just as you're returning to consciousness, they
pitchfork you with "Beer Liberation Army" and "Beat 'Em, Bust 'Em." The
kings of high-sticking also nail you with a great version of the Stompin'
Tom Conners classic, "The Hockey Song." As you skate further back into your
own end, they hit you with a powerful re-write of wrestler Freddie
Blassie's "Pencil Neck Geek." It's a non-stop bruising album that will have
you limping to the trainer's room looking for a cold one. Come join in the
mayhem with DOA, the Kings of Punk, Hockey and Beer. No exports to Canada,
the UK, or Italy

Elin Palmer - Postcard CD (Elin Palmer) [EP001] $12.75
"If there is ever a reason to not download something, Postcard is it.
It is
a CD of eight songs but the magic is hearing them in their pure produced
form off speakers. The complete package is alive and original. ELIN
PALMER's voice is reminiscent of Enya or Kate Bush with a subtler, softer
range. Her Swedish accent flavors her English songs with a distinct
presence, and makes her traditional Swedish folksongs come very alive. The
music can't be classified. At one point it sounds like a classical string
quartet, or straight folk songs. Then you go a chord and it is a
hook-ridden pop song that begs to be danced to. Palmer's music is easy
accessible to those used to Devotchka, Dresden Dolls. People who love pop
will also be drawn into this easily addictive music." Elin has played
violin as a touring member and studio musician with MUNLY, 16 HORSEPWOER,
WOVEN HAND, DEVOTCHKA, and CROOKED FINGERS.
Falty DL - Bravery CD (Planet Mu) [ZIQ244] $13.25
On the heels of his great debut album Love Is a Liability, FALTY DL
(a.k.a.
New York's DREW LUSTMAN) weighs in with this incredible new release.
Bravery contrasts quite dramatically, working at different tempos, but
still impresses with combinations of melodic synths, glitzy garage samples,
and complex programmed beats and effects. "Made Me Feel So Right" opens
with a brash, repetitive garage vocal echoing over delicate, plaintive
synths and string instrumentation. Next up, "Mother Beam" delivers
hiccupped vocals, big bass, jazzy chords, and layered, hip-hop-tempo drums.
By "Tronman," things become much more abstract: melodies hang mid-air while
drums form patterns underneath, making the track feel weightless. Just as
the listener begins to feel lost in space, the music picks up with the
chicken-scratch guitar and dubbed-out vocals of "Pressure"-a complex,
up-tempo workout. The album finishes with the acid and Rhodes of "Discant,"
which layers sassy disco orchestration into the mix to dizzying effect. No
exports outside North America and Japan

Gangpol & Mit - Faits Divers Book (Pictoplasma Publishing)
[PICTO007BK] $28.75
Pictoplasma Publishing present their first monograph, a book & DVD by
the
French duo Gangpol & Mit, Faits Divers. Gangpol & Mit are well-known for
their unparalleled symbiosis of vision and sound. Starting in 2002,
Guillaume Castagné and Sylvain Quément have continuously created their own
universe of deviant cartoons and technicolor anthems. Now, for the first
time, this unique love-hate relationship between sonics and visuals can be
enjoyed on a DVD. The accompanying book presents the twisted graphical
worlds as original movie posters and scene shots of the most thrilling
episodes. These tracks invite you on journeys to exotic places and deliver
scenes straight from doomsday. Melodies crush and rebuild in various
styles, mixing sources dug out deep from a huge digital sandbox: coconut
swings, cinematic Italian synths, ghetto can sounds and imaginary
folklores. Behind the technicolor frenzy and DIY entertainment, an absurd
and uncanny dimension unfolds: hit-and-run canine casualties, technological
voodoo apocalypses and terrorist confetti exploding everywhere. The
geometrical bestiary is being hunted around the globe and a feast of
techno-cannibalism is celebrated on the "Island Of Da Motherboard
Slaughter." Gangpol & Mit have toured extensively through Europe and
America, including concerts in New York, Montreal, Mexico and Argentina. In
2007, they toured Japan with performances in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and the
Kanazawa Museum. They continue to contribute to exhibitions and run
workshops for artists, designers and musicians. Together with Mami Chan and
Norman Bambi (Juicy Panic), they keep touring with the Carton Park project
for children. Also, Guillaume just published the children's book ABC Des
Verbes. The DVD is in PAL format and features 18 tracks with a 32-page
book.
Greg Davis - Midpoint CD (Home Normal) [HN008] $13.50
My first foray into Greg Davis's work was through his excellent debut
on
Carpark 'Arbour' in the summer of 2002 I believe. As I sat with my
friend who was playing it on his big stereo I was really just taken aback
by how detailed, melodic and organic the work was. I became an instant fan,
yet despite this was still taken aback further when I first met Greg and
saw him playing live at the Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival on the
first of December 2006. The show took a while to sink in as I had never
really heard anything quite like it before. I guess in many ways it was an
entry for me into 'drone' work although this term (as always) is rather
disingenuous as there is so much more to Greg's work than the dictionary
definition of 'drone'. I think it was the sheer size of the sound in
the smallish area he played in. Either way, it was both enormous sounding
and micro-detailed all in one.
So nearly 6 years after that show I asked Greg if he fancied releasing this as a CD as a kind of comparison to his newer live work. We ended up agreeing on his performance at Higher Ground in May of this year as it seemed like a nice comparison, yet what we got was essentially two live shows which come together seamlessly to create 'Midpoint'. Its a whole other side to Greg's work that many have yet to experience and perhaps in a small way we can show just how amazing Greg's body of work is. From violin to bells, synthesizer to stomp boxes, analog to digital, it just highlights his natural ability to create improvised and amazing sound-scapes. At once minimal, slowly-evolving and rich, you'll also find yourself entranced by rhythms and bleeps you never thought could exist within 'drone' works, if thats how we really must define this. This experimentation and indeed, playful side to his work, is classic Greg Davis. Its what first drew me to his work and which brings a smile to my face as I listen and try to write these pithy words. -- Ian Hawgood
Cover art for 'midpoint' is by the very talented Liam Frankland. For

multi-instrumentlist
JAMEY HUGGINS and featuring DOTTIE ALEXANDER and BP HELIUM, who are both Of
Montreal members as well. A Parallax I is a collection of songs written and
recorded over the course of touring and recording with Of Montreal (a
stretch that has included some of the band's most critically acclaimed
works, including Satanic Panic in the Attic and Hissing Fauna, Are You the
Destroyer?). Pulling inspiration from years of writing, recording and
extensive touring, A Parallax I at last allows James to showcase in his own
right the adept musicianship he has leant to the studio recordings and live
shows of acts ranging from Of Montreal to MGMT, THE RUBY SUNS and ELF
POWER. Deluxe limited edition CD includes bonus six-song covers disc and

Kevin Barker - You And Me CD (Gnomonsong) [GONG14]
$12.00
You & Me is KEVIN BARKER's debut album, released by Gnomonsong. Though
it's
his first solo release under his own name, Barker's no newcomer to the
scene-he's spent the last few years recording, touring, and collaborating
with DEVENDRA BANHART, JOANNA NEWSOM, VASHTI BUNYAN, VETIVER, ANTONY AND
THE JOHNSONS, and ESPERS, to name just a few. Essentially acting as
everyone's favorite sideman, Barker has influenced and helped create a
sound with which this generation is happily familiar. During his college
days, Barker became interested in the finger-style guitar playing of John
Fahey and Bert Jansch and began to record under the name CURRITUCK COUNTY.
This solo project (sometime a duo with Vetiver / Espers drummer OTTO
HAUSER) recorded albums for Teenbeat Records, Troubleman Unlimited, and the
UK's Track and Field Organisation. Now Barker has assembled an unbelievable
group of musicians for You & Me. Produced by THOM MONAHAN, the album
features PAT SANSONE (WILCO), Joanna Newsom, JONATHAN WILSON (ELVIS
COSTELLO, JENNY LEWIS), ERIC JOHNSON (SHINS, FRUIT BATS), and Otto Hauser
(Vetiver, Espers). Full of sunny, rural country rock, You & Me recalls the
rustic grooves of The Band and The Grateful Dead, the heady melancholy of
Roy Harper, and the golden harmonies of CSNY. LP version to follow in 2010.
Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - Here Be Dragons CD (Ad Noiseam)
[adn120-2] $16.00
For their second full length album, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
set
their sails towards uncharted territories and unveiled a new symbiosis of
warm electronica and dusky yet clear acoustic instrumentation. Familiar yet
unsettling, varied yet coherent, dark yet warm, the highly detailled maps
of "Here Be Dragons" form TKDE's most personal and crafted release, a
mesmerising combination of traditional and modern sounds, and a highly
rewarding album.
King Khan & BBQ Show - Invisible Girl CD (In The Red) [ITR181]
$12.00
It's hard to tell if THE KING KHAN & BBQ SHOW is more infamous than
famous.
Since the 2004 release of their first self-titled debut, the pair has
earned itself a place in rock 'n' roll history by inspiring both critical
reverence and insanity (fervor for the band's live show has occasionally
manifested itself as live sex acts). The King Khan & BBQ show's
long-awaited third full-length album will not disappoint the band's
admirers or their devoted cult following. Invisible Girl marks a return to
the trademark doo-wop-laced, anthemic garage rock that earned the band
their fame and their infamy. The record exhibits their effortless fluency
in rock 'n' roll's tenets and traditions, but as MARK SULTAN (otherwise
known as BBQ) notes, it also includes "a song so vile that it cannot even
be mentioned." After releases in the interim on revered labels such as
Crypt, Norton, and Fat Possum, King Khan and BBQ have returned to L.A.'s In
The Red Records for Invisible Girl. The twosome may be rock 'n' roll's
fiercest anti-heroes, but they are also its hardest-working ambassadors,
touring from Europe to Brazil to Israel, and are embarking on a 31-date
North American tour beginning 10/28/2009.
Le Lendemain - Fires CD (Home Normal) [HN007] $13.50
Le Lendemain is the new project between Danny Norbury and David
Wengrenn.
Following on from their early collaboration under David's Library Tapes
moniker (Sketches), we find the pair delivers a more personal album of hazy
dialogues.
There are real moments on this record where you feel that you are let into the private lives of it composers; tracks such as 'Lois', where they are telling the tale of a friend. Other times the mystical finds it way to the mix as with 'Petrichor', where the organic lays on a bed of electronic sounds that have managed to find there way on to tape by some ESP. The depth of sound throughout this album make you constantly reassess what you are hearing as your focus is shifting to the fore and background.
Writing about such music is always difficult, as
words can never really penetrate the emotion of sounds. The music from this
album is a journey of two instruments and the outside world, what it adds
up to is a Soundtrack to the moments of unconsciousness, of times when one
is dreaming, or the beautiful in between state. Conversations where you
understand completely yet are unaware of the tongue. This delicate music,
that is so skillfully weaved together of the most fragile fibers that one
false move would result in the whole thing falling apart.
Lustmord - Other Dub CD (Vaultworks) [10679] $10.00
Dub Remix EP of the LUSTMORD album [ O T H E R ] Featuring Adam Jones
of
Tool. Total Length: 40:12
Melt Banana - Lite Live: Ver.0.0 CD (AZap) [AZ08]
$12.00
These days, MELT BANANA performs some of their shows under the name
MELT
BANANA LITE, and this album is a live recording of the new configuration.
Melt-Banana Lite is not the usual Melt Banana: there are drums and vocals,
but no guitars-instead samplers and synth. It is different, but at the same
time, one definitely feels Melt-Banana when one listens to it. It is like
watching the ocean when diving, not when standing and watching from the
land. Melt Banana Lite shows another face of Melt-Banana, with more
flexible, concentrated, and free minds. They have stepped forward,
attempting to discover new possibilities for their music. On tour in the US
from late October through December, performing each date as both
incarnations. CD only. No exports to Japan
Modeste - A Mountain Of Convenience CD (Sthlmaudio Recordings)
[SA002CD] $16.00
This is the debut full-length release by Swiss producer Agnès aka
Modeste.
You might have bumped into some of Modeste's earlier works for Echochord
which were released in late 2007. At that time, the focus was deep dub
techno -- this time, Modeste chose a different path. The new record is a
lush, dizzy, driving collection of low keys, ambient scapes and
slowly-evolving, warm, drone-based music. Modeste builds its own cocoon --
a world of unformatted, moving sounds and freely-randomized, smooth works.
The compositions presented here were all done with the same process; start
a new project, don't change a thing considering what the technology is
providing you with by default, and start making something with as few as
possible technological boundaries. As if a child without mathematical
limitations (from a musical point of view) would have been fiddling around
with things, so Modeste chose to work as freely as possible, concentrating
on the audio results rather than the technical matters.
Mudhoney - Live At El Sol CD (Munster) [MR291] $20.75
After over 20 years together, MUDHONEY sound nowadays as loud and
unrestrained as ever, if not more. The proof is in this live album,
recorded in Madrid in July 2007, where the band played many of their most
defining songs in full frontal sonic attack mode.
My Dad Is Dead - A New Clear Route CD (Unhinged) [CDMYDAANE]
$10.25
The latest chapter in MARK EDWARDS' twenty-plus-year saga as MY DAD IS
DEAD. Another fine collection of melancholy tracks steeped in introspective
wit and wry observations. Previous releases on Homestead, Emperor Jones,
Scat, St. Valentine, and others. MDID fans will not be disappointed.
Naam - Naam CD (Tee Pee) [TPE111] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 11-03-2009
***We've got something heavy here, man. The incarnation of Brooklyn's
NAAM
manifests a signature brand of supersonic and ultimately mesmerizing heavy
psychedelia. Trancelike and punishing at times, this trio of psychonauts
mold elements of classic psychedelia and prog with modern elements of
jam-heavy bliss and apocalyptic amplitude. Naam's self-titled debut is more
so an aural-intoxicating odyssey than an album. Recorded on a 100-acre farm
in upstate New York, Naam manages to capture an elemental sound, surfacing
the hidden wisdoms of the forest and the fields while capturing the
mysticism of the night sky. In its increasingly dark and sinister
progression, the album depicts an unholy spiritual journey in the search
for a higher plane of enlightenment. Naam delivers their deafening sermon
to bring a new dawn for all civilization. The vast seas cannot drown Them,
the darkest caverns cannot conceal Them, They will conquer insurmountable
foes. They are war, They are peace, They are time and space, They are
infinite, They are Naam.
Namosh - Keep It For Later CD (Crippled Dick Hot Wax)
[CDHW107CD] $16.00
This is the second full-length album from Berlin-based Namosh. Keep It
For
Later is a beautiful whirlwind of a record, although a touch softer than
its precursor. Here, Namosh twirls dream-like, synth-generated sound
sequences into rhythmic bass lines, percussion and vocals, further enriched
by the cello, brass and jazz guitar provided by a few select peers. Mixed
by Thomas Stern (Crime & The City Solution, Einstürzende Neubauten), the
album also boasts a rare collaboration with German composer/arranger Peter
Thomas (Jerry Cotton, Raumpatrouille) and Namosh's first-ever mainstream
croon-fest, "Pleurer Et Rire" ("Cry And Laugh"). In 2003, Namosh E. Arslan
first wowed the crowds with "Picked Up Floozy," a rousing club hit and
pumping electro track carried by Namosh's smooth, yet curiously choppy
vocals that still fills dancefloors around the world. In a poll by Q
magazine, Björk voted Namosh's "Cold Cream" her favorite song. A tour de
force and force of nature, Namosh's live sets are leagues apart from the
latest mainstream offerings. Keep It For Later is a heady, synth-driven
avant-pop anomaly with some bizarre R n' B tricks up its sleeve.
Of Montreal - Coquelicot Asleep In The PoppiesDBL.LP+DOWNLOAD
CD (Polyvinyl) [PRC071] $15.50
REISSUED ON VINYL!!! OF MONTREAL's fourth album is considered by many
to be
its best. Of Montreal's catalog can be divided into two parts: pre-The
Sunlandic Twins (heavily inspired by The Kinks and The Beatles) and
post-The Sunlandic Twins (heavily inspired by Prince). Coquelicot is a
timeless concept album that has been out of print on vinyl for far too long
as evidenced by the secondary market for the album which often fetches $50
- 100.
Real Estate - Real Estate CD (Woodsist) [WOODSIST034CD]
$12.00
"Real Estate waft in on vibes of hazy summers past. The New Jersey
quartet
of Martin Courtney IV, Matthew Mondanile III, Etienne Pierre Duguay and
Alex Bleeker cut the sleeves short and the pop smooth to shade you from the
midday heat. Every song works its way to that part of your consciousness
that reveled in the fleeting waves of freedom that eked in once classes
broke and the sun lingered a little longer over suburban roofs. And with
three quarters of the band holding down Garden State roots it's no surprise
that a bit of Jersey indie-pop heritage sneaks its way into their sound,
lifting the most sun streaked moments from The Feelies and Yo La Tengo and
filtering them through the kaleidoscope of memories aimless drives through
parched neighborhood streets. Martin Courtney's songwriting has a way of
wrapping up the immediacy of youth with the ennui of age for the perfect
shade of bittersweet bliss, mind you though, much heavier on the sweet than
the bitter. Add to this Mondanile's (Ducktails/ Predator Vision) shimmering
guitar strains full of equal parts sea foam and beer foam, pepper in the
boardwalk clatter of Duguay's drums Bleeker's staccato low end and the
perfect afternoon is just a lawn chair and boom box away." --Andy
French/raven sings the blues
Redshape - The Dance Paradox CD (Delsin) [DSR080CD]
$16.00
This is the debut full-length album by Berlin's finest techno producer,
Redshape. One of techno's most enigmatic figures, Redshape produces
timeless analog techno with a Detroit edge. Rarely interviewed, and with
his identity kept a well-guarded secret, Redshape's reclusive persona
contributes heavily to the aura of romance and drama that surrounds his
recorded output. Repetition is something Redshape works hard to prevent, so
his live shows -- which have brought him to nearly every known European
club -- morph and develop every time to never play the same show a second
time. As a DJ, Redshape is still very inspired by the good-old school of
mixing and trying to make tracks speak to tracks; making music out of
music. Opener "Seduce Me" introduces a common theme throughout the record,
with live percussion providing a dense foundation upon which sustained pads
and distorted melodic electronic tone construct a deep and contemplative
mid-paced techno exploration. "Garage GT" builds on a central pounding
kick, introducing industrious and cavernous beats and accents in a cold,
mechanical meditation. "Bound (Part 1 & 2)" unnerves with shrill synth and
tight funk drumming reminiscent of both classic sci-fi themes and the
chilling progressive textures of giallo-era European horror. "Man Out Of
Time" is an epic journey of soaring orchestration and crushing beats. Deep
and disorienting, there is an arabesque pragmatism to the central melodic
line, evoking images of a stranger lost in a foreign land. "Globe" is a
floor-ready creation, resonating as plunging bass and ominous ascendant hat
rolls climb to a climax of deep chord melody and reverberant clap.
"Rorschach's Game" punches rhythm into a dense carpet of hissed noise, with
melodic shapes surfacing from the murky depths. "Dead Space Mix (Edit)"
combines interplanetary pads and shuffled percussion with subtly-shifting
electronic beats in a transcendental techno treat, while closer "Dark &
Sticky" combines live funk drums and pounded bass into a viscous and heavy
compound, unimpaired by looming tape-hiss and fuzz. As complex and
mysterious as its creator, The Dance Paradox is a profound work of skill
and vision that will be referenced through 2009 and beyond. Great work,
whoever you are.
Sasse - Starstyling vs. Moodmusic Mix CD (Moodmusic)
[MOOD010CD] $16.00
Moodmusic head-honcho and A&R-man Klas "Sasse" Lindblad brings you the
first installment of a new co-operation between Moodmusic and their friends
from Starstyling Worldwide, one of the more interesting fashion/design
companies in Berlin. Compiled originally for the Starstyling "Hokus Fokus"
show at Berlin's Fashion Week in the summer of 2009, Starstyling vs.
Moodmusic takes you on a journey of unreleased gems and forthcoming goodies
as well as special edits of some recent hits from Moodmusic, building a
well-conceived DJ-mix of quality music that you should be used to hearing
from the native Finn on dancefloors around the world. In the past 15 years,
Moodmusic has been growing into one of the main players in European
electronic house with a respectable artist roster of past, present and
future stars of the scene, lovingly steered by Sasse through many different
territories, while always staying true both to himself as well as to his
artists. While the first releases took their lead from the twin poles of
Detroit and Chicago, each new record has expanded the horizons of the label
with wonderful results, also gathering a small but dedicated artist pool
enhanced by guest appearances from the label's most talented friends and
colleagues from all over the world. Artists in this compilation include:
Stel, King Roc, Dave DK, Daso, Ada, Kiki & Sasse, Till Von Sein, Filippo

Syntak - Ylajali CD (Ghostly International) [gi091]
$14.50
LIMITED to 700 worldwide!!! In Ylajali's beautifully scorched sonic
landscape, acres of drones run beneath Anna Cecilia's wordless sighs; beats
crunch like autumn leaves while synthesizers swell, flourish & disappear.
Songs either tramp through hazy forests until they fade into the dark (the
Boards of Canada-esque "Love Camp 23"), or stack tone upon tone like
translucent building blocks, building to forceful, near-operatic crescendos
(the epic "She Moves in Colors"). Syntaks' Jakob Skott is a drummer by
trade, and his percussion plays the sinister counterpoint to Cecelia's
tender melodies.
Syntaks - Ylajali CD (Ghostly International) [GI91]
$13.50
RELEASE DATE: 11-03-2009
***Over a century ago, Norwegian author KNUT HAMSUN proposed a new
creative ideal, a form of literature that would take the intricacies of the
human mind as its main object, effectively describing "the whisper of the
blood and the pleading of the bone marrow." One hundred-plus years later,
Danish duo (and avid Hamsun devotees) SYNTAKS have taken up Hamsun s agenda
with single-minded purpose, naming their new album after a character in
Hamsun novel Hunger, recording it just blocks from where Hamsun wrote his
masterpiece, and taking the author's ambitious mission statement as their
own. The album in question, Syntaks luminous Ylajali, crackles with
emotion and imagination, giving form to its creator's vibrant inner lives.
In Ylajali s beautifully scorched sonic landscape, acres of drones run
beneath ANNA CECILIA's wordless sighs; beats crunch like autumn leaves
while synthesizers swell, flourish, and disappear. Songs either tramp
through hazy forests until they fade into the dark (the Boards of
Canada-esque "Love Camp 23"), or stack tone upon tone like translucent
building blocks, building to forceful, near-operatic crescendos (the epic
"She Moves in Colors"). Syntaks JAKOB SKOTT is a drummer by trade, and his
percussion--both live and programmed, but always lent an otherworldly
sheen--plays the sinister counterpoint to Cecelia s tender melodies.
Ylajali is an ambient pop album as dense, emotionally complex, and,
ultimately, as mysterious as the human mind; and like any great mystery,
Ylajali keeps its audience engrossed until the bittersweet conclusion.
Limited edition of 700 copies.
Tenniscoats - The Ending Theme CD (Noble) [cxca1096]
$17.75
The band is Saya and Takashi Ueno. Owners of the Majikick label. In
addition, they are the support members of Maher Shalal Hash Baz.
The album was recorded throughout a year by the members as they performed in their live concerts. The pastoral and purely melody, solitary atmosphere and Saya's sweet and innocent voice lead the listener to a world of nostargia. It somehow makes us think of bands such as Mum and Sigu Ros.
Permanenence and magic to make people move are things only good music has.
The Tenniscoats are one extraordinary band playing such good music.
Terror Danjah - Gremlinz (the Instrumentals 2003-2009) CD
(Planet Mu) [ZIQ249] $13.25
TERROR DANJAH isn't a household name, but he's considered by the grime
cognoscenti to be the best grime producer ever, and this new collection of
instrumentals, remixes, and tracks for others shows off his singular genius
to the rest of the world. The title of the album refers to his gremlin
cackle audio-logo that indicates a Terror Danjah production, much like
Timbaland's singing/beat boxing on his early productions. And the
comparison with Timbaland doesn't stop there: both producers work with a
signature palette of sounds, adding to them occasionally, which make their
productions instantly recognizable; both use shifting, syncopated rhythms.
What sets Terror Danjah apart is that he's British, he works around the
tempo of 140 bpm, and his music is part of the aggressive, post-garage
grime movement. Despite the pared-down palette he uses, Terror fills his
productions with brilliant ideas, complex rhythms, and pop hooks. These
tracks were mostly issued in limited vinyl quantities on the Aftershock
label, as either instrumental tracks or as backing for MCs and singers. No
exports outside North America or Japan
Themselves - Crowns Down CD (Anticon) [ABR0096] $13.25
Seven months after the release of the FREEhoudini-the celebrated
mixtape
that announced THEMSELVES' return-DOSEONE and JEL drop CrownsDown, a
careful and vicious exhibition of mastered rap tactics and sampling ethics.
Themselves' third album proper has been gestating in the gut of this
seminal group for some time. It's both a return to form and a honing of
what's come before (SUBTLE, CLOUDDEAD, DEEP PUDDLE)-both the opus that
these lionhearted two were always meant to make, and the album that their
hip hop-obsessed teenaged selves always hoped to hear. On CrownsDown,
Themselves weld brute skill to a concrete set of tracks that represents an
essential ten commandments of rap. In preparation, Doseone and Jel
revisited their beloved hip hop collections (e.g. Gang Starr, Ultramagnetic
MCs, Public Enemy, Saafir) and whittled down the recurring themes that made
their favorite records so sturdy. Each song on CrownsDown represents one of
these archetypes-there's the "don't bite" song, the diss track, the story
rap, the "bootleggers beware" song, and the "don't f*** with my DJ" jam,
and more. In this way, Themselves revisit something classic in order to
invent their own future-school entry to the annals. Features contribution
from D-STYLES, SUBTLE members DAX PIERSON & JORDAN DALRYMPLE, and THE
NOTWIST'S MARKUS ACHER. Mixed by ODD NOSDAM. No exports outside the US and
Australia
Toni Rios - Past & Present CD (Soap) [SOAP001CD] $17.75
"One of the long lasting members of Germany's techno and house scene,
Toni
Rios drops this commemorative full length celebrating his 20 years in the
business with a long player of new tracks highlighting his long and
illustrious history appropriately entitled Past & Present. From Toni Rios
time during the mid-nineties at the legendary Frankfurt club Omen, he grew
up quickly at an early age being one of the most in demand DJ's around the
globe. Now it's fall 2009 and he's taken the time to reflect on the past
two decades spent DJing and producing. With his new full length Past &
Present, Toni Rios seizes these years of experience and has successfully
found a way to reflect his experiences, influences and moments in this
momentous full length. Take the tune 'Can See Your Smile' with it's
American tinged house flavor that rolls out in the most charming of ways.
'Ocean Drive' spurs the glory of yesterday's techno sound recalling the
best moments of the great G-Man (ex-LFO). The soul of Ron Trent swings
unconsciously in the midst of 'White Emotions' while Rios dives into his
Spanish roots with the insatiable track 'Incapaz de Parar. Toni Rios isn't
all retro mind you, with 'L.A.D.T', 'A Rosa' and the roller 'Laura' he
brings us dead center to today's unclassifiable modern state of creativity
where Techno and House has converged into a solid groove. An essential
document of one of Germany's most beloved and longstanding dance
producers."

World's End Girlfriend - Farewell Kingdom CD (Noble) [CXCA1089]
$17.75
This is the first release from the Noble label that was started with
the
concept of "music for daily life". Jumping over the fences of nationality
and genre, this is the 2nd album and turning point from new generation
musicians World's End Girlfriend, which fascinates many fans worldwide.
This is a monumental album shifting dramatically from the first album
released from Yoshihiro Hanno's Current label, which was overflowing with
mischievous electronic compositions, by the effective use of cello and
violin to create a story and unique musical style. Track 2 features vocals
by Piana who is known by various releases from Cubic music and Happy. Enjoy
the twisted fantasy made through beautiful string arrangements and over the
top editing.
World's End Girlfriend - Dream's End Come True CD (Noble)
[CXCA1118] $17.75
World's End Girlfriend, a new generation musician, made an
unprecedented
hit gathering fans of noise, post rock, abstract and electronica music with
the release of their first album Farewell Kingdom. It was the first release
from the label noble, which is based on the concept of "music for daily
life" in 2001 and began to show his talent. In June of 2002, he
participated in Sonar 2002 in Barcelona, Europe's largest electronic music
and multi-media art festival, and continues to jump national and genre
fences with this 3rd album. A year from the last release, this album takes
a further step from the last one which featured a lot of string instruments
such as cello and violins. This four track album includes World's End
Girlfriend's longest piece to date (over 25 minutes) "All Imperfect Love
Song" featuring Tavito Nanao on vocals. Please enjoy the too beautiful and
ephermal, radical fantasy.
World's End Girlfriend - The Lie Lay Land CD (Noble) [CXCA1160]
$17.75
We have released two albums of a now internationally acclaimed
next-generation musician, world's end girlfriend, as the noble's launching
artist. With the unprecedented success of his two albums, farewell kingdom
and dream's end come true, he bridged genre gaps and was widely praised by
the fans of techno, abstract, post-rock, avant pop and electronica. His
musical career includes the performance in Sonar 2002, the biggest European
festival of progressive music and multimedia arts held in Barcelona, Spain,
and the successful tour in Taipei, Hong Kong and Macao in 2004.
He now returns with a band of freaky raw drums, horns, piano and a bass guitar, and tens of layers of guitar noise while retaining his well known style: excessive editing, collage and elegant strings arrangement. In self-produced The Lie Lay Land, his first album in two years, he created another grandeur fiction, 10 tracks, 80 minutes long. Listening to The Lie Lay Land resembles watching the films, say, by Emir Kusturica or Jan Svankmajer who portray a fleeting fantasy ludicrously and poignantly at the same time, or the films of Lars von Trier and Gaspar Noe who always sway our emotions with a relentless and extremely demanding story progression. His music, like those films, shows us a fictional world as a finished work.
The artwork on the cover of The Lie Lay Land, the illustration of a
well-known author of picture books, komako sakai, visually portrays world's
end girlfriend's vision of the world.
Yasushi Yoshida - Secret Figure CD (Noble) [CXCA1188]
$17.75
Noble label releases albums under the concept of "music for daily life"
and
is very pleased to announce that we have a new artist joining us, Yasushi
Yoshida.
Yoshida began making his name as a composer, contributing to multi-award winning dance companies, BABY- Q's solo dance performances and various plays and films.
Secret Figure is the first album by this brilliant artist embodying the Noble concept. Composed for piano and guitar and recorded by select musicians and Yoshida himself, he has incorporated samples of everyday sounds surrounding him and programmed beats from the samples for each track. Based on cinematic music, he has created free form, minimally structured music which is extremely beautiful, layering serenely lyrical string arrangements featuring piano, guitar, cello, and violins with electronic beats and samples.
Expressing the subtle emotions
evoked in life, evoking its changes with overwhelming calmness, Yasushi
Yoshida's first album Secret Figure marks the birth of new impressionist
music.
Yasushi Yoshida - Little Grace CD (Noble) [CXCA1228]
$17.75
After 1 year and 9 months of waiting, noble, the label that brings
"music
for everyday life" is delighted to announce the new album "Little Grace" by
Yasushi Yoshida.
Yoshida's first album "Secret Figure" celebrated musical impressionism of the new generation by masterly portraying the delicate sensations roused in everyday life through infinite layers of melodic instruments such as the piano, guitar and violin, mixed with the electronic sounds of electronica. 1 year and 9 months since then, the artist, now soaring to new heights, has proudly completed his second album, "Little Grace".
The most notable difference from the previous work is the dynamic use of live instruments. Here, the electronic sounds heard in the first album have hidden behind the shadows to be replaced by live drums, piano, guitar, violin, cello, bass, saxophone, clarinets, and even saws. The album is a parade of songs compiled through a dramatic orchestration of these live instruments. Yoshida brings meaning to every little sound produced by his trusted musicians, there is meaning in every break of music, every page turned on the musical score, every piano pedal stepped on, every breath of the horn, and every jump of the bow on a string instrument to create delicate and yet spectacular instrumental music.
Based on an ensemble of live instruments, Yasushi Yoshida has expanded his
expression by capturing elements such as "chaos", "dynamism", and
"festivity" that could not be seen in his previous album. This album that
starts in a melancholic mood which gradually turns into an overwhelming
feeling of euphoria is an elegant, cinematic, and ever so beautiful
storybook of sound without images or words that allows each listener to
portray their own scenery in their hearts however they wish.
Zak Sally - Fear Of Song CD (La Mano 21) [LMANO006]
$13.00
When ZAK SALLY stopped playing bass for LOW after 12 years, he was
convinced he was through with music and focused on cartooning and his
small-press publishing concern, La Mano 21. He found himself drawn into the
basement, however, with the self-imposed rule to write/play/sing/make every
sound in every song. He brought the whole mess to BEN DURRANT (ANDREW BIRD,
DOSH, SHEARWATER) and they made a nine-song record out of it.
Hand-assembled, signed and limited edition, (mostly) printed by Zak himself
on his old offset press. Fear of Song is clearly a very personal album.
"Sonically, it definitively shows that Alan Sparhawk wasn't the only good
songwriter in Low"-The Onion.
Zelienople - Give It Up CD (Type) [TYPE054CD] $14.00
Chicago-based trio Zelienople present their second album for the Type
label. Zelienople have been around for quite a while now, and in that time
have become staples in the underground music architecture. Percussionist
Mike Weis has appeared on recent recordings with alt-folk legend Scott
Tuma, and Weis, Tuma and guitarist/vocalist Matt Christensen form the band
Good Stuff House. Despite all this activity, their passion still lies in
Zelienople. Multi-instrumentalist Brian Harding completes the trio, which
has forged its most essential work to date with Give It Up, a record which
succeeds as a perfect summation of their progress. With previous albums,
the band have garnered no shortage of comparisons to Talk Talk, Slowdive
and Bark Psychosis, and while these comparisons still stand, here
Zelienople have pushed the influences into the background to reveal a
daring and fresh sound. Poppier than its predecessor His/Hers (TYPE 024CD),
Give It Up is a collection of rolling songs, from the Bohren Und Der Club
Of Gore-esque opener "Aging" to the doomed Americana of "All I Want Is
Calm," and the hazy ambience of "Water Saw." As we pass through the
effortless percussive shuffle and dream-like riffing of "I Can Put All My
Faith In Her," perhaps the closest the band have ever come to writing a pop
song, it's hard not to fall under their spell. It is a record with scope
and an enviable restraint, and a record which revels in the band's
experience and pedigree. This is an album of crystalline, mysterious
beauty; it is something which might take multiple listens to truly uncover,
and is infinitely rewarding once you do. Cinematic, but startlingly
unpretentious, this is music perfectly primed for the colder seasons. Light
a log fire and enjoy.

Al Jarnow - Celestial Navigations: The Short Films Of Al Jarnow
DVD (Numero Group) [NUMERO031DVD] $24.25
"Tens of millions of people have seen these films. nobody knows who
made
them. Curled up on our couches in the wee hours of the morning, in reruns,
and nostalgic You Tube forwards, filmmaker Al Jarnow has touched our lives
and changed the way we look at the world without us ever knowing. Beginning
with his work for a certain public television show that featured a big
yellow bird, Al Jarnow captured life's scientific minutia and boiled it
down for easy consumption between cookie eating monsters and counting
vampires. Coupling time-lapse, stop motion, and cell animation with simple
objects found in every day life, Jarnow deconstructed the world for an
entire generation. From the third floor of his Long Island gingerbread
home, his mind wandered beyond the confines of educational programming.
Delving into New York's avant-garde film scene alongside Harry Smith, Jonas
Mekas and Stan Brakhage, Jarnow created a body of awe-inspiring films that
remain in the collections of MOMA and Pompideau Center. Employing the
archival skills honed during the excavation of over 40 full-length albums,
Celestial Navigations marks The Numero Group's first foray into the world
of cinema. The 45 films collected have been transferred and color corrected
from the original 16mm prints, along with fully remastered sound. Special
features include a 30-minute documentary on Jarnow's creative process, as
well as film playlists designed for both children and adults alike. The
deluxe package includes a 60-page book loaded to the gills with essays,
ephemera, storyboards, photos, and a complete film index, all housed in the
iconic Numero slipcase." Region 0; color and B&W; full screen; total
running time: 110 minutes. Includes a 60-page full color book.
Efterklang & The Danish National Chamber Orchestra - Performing
Parades DVD+CD (Leaf) [BAY69] $15.75
The inimitable Danish outfit EFTERKLANG presents Performing Parades,
their
most ambitious project yet. A limited-edition deluxe gatefold CD/DVD and
double-LP/DVD package, it features the band playing their acclaimed 2007
album Parades in full, accompanied by THE DANISH NATIONAL CHAMBER
ORCHESTRA, in their hometown of Copenhagen. A sweepingly majestic affair,
the performance takes Efterklang's sumptuous, otherworldly pop songs to new
heights of heart-bursting joy and wonder. The original Parades album
recording involved more than 30 guest musicians, including a string
quartet, a brass quintet, and three separate choirs. On Performing Parades,
the music is brought to life in new arrangements in a way that is both
dazzling and profoundly moving. Or, as Mojo described the performance in
their live review: "uplifting, celebratory, and gloriously ridiculous, like
an alternate national anthem for a new northern utopia of untrammelled
happiness." The live recording is packaged with an intimate 55-minute
concert film directed by BENJAMIN HESSELHOLDT. The DVD also includes a
behind-the-scenes documentary (with English and Danish subtitles) of the
preparations for the event, as well as all six video clips made for songs
from Parades, including lead single "Mirador," which has racked up over a
million views on YouTube. An acoustic performance of the same song is also
featured on the DVD. No exports outside the USA
Grong Grong - To Hell N' Back DVD+CD (Memorandum) [MEMO006CD]
$17.25
Hailing from Adelaide, proto-grunge outfit Grong Grong bludgeoned
Australian audiences throughout 1983-1984, with their dark and aggressive
take on punk rock. The band filtered its influences of The Birthday Party,
The Cramps, Flipper and Pere Ubu through a suburban Australian mindset,
sounding like no one before or since. In 1983, they supported Dead Kennedys
and impressed frontman Jello Biafra so much, they became the first and only
Australian band to release an album on Biafra's Alternative Tentacles
label. This deluxe reissue on the much-acclaimed Australian archival label,
Memorandum features the band's posthumously-released 1986 self-titled LP,
plus rare studio demos, expanded live cuts, and nugget-y rehearsal tapes.
All tracks have been digitally-remastered from original source tapes and
are available for the first time on CD. The package also contains a DVD
with concert and rehearsal footage, displaying the band in all their noisy,
chaotic glory. Presented in a deluxe gatefold wallet with a detailed
booklet stuffed with liner notes, photos, and original art, this will be a
highly-desirable package for fans of this extremely influential band and
connoisseurs of the Australian underground scene of the '70s and '80s. DVD
is all-region NTSC format.
Hydrus - Interleaves DVD+CD (Narrominded) [NM025]
$14.00
Amsterdam sonologists Herman Wilken and Almer Lücke are Hydrus. They
met at
the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Both of them played in rock bands, but
are equally adept at stochastic composition and programming extremely tight
rhythms. Production-wise, these guys can easily live up to the greats in
this genre. After an instalment in Narrominded's Split LP Series and the
Postcards EP, this is Hydrus' first full length effort. With their typical
crystal clean sound still intact, Hydrus make a move to a more complex
texture in their tracks. In the background, sounds from the real world even
make their way into the music. Listen closely! On several occasions Hydrus
have worked with Videotroopers, the moniker of visual artist Erik Mijwaard.
As part of Interleaves, Mijwaard has created three beautiful videos, which
are included on the limited edition dvd.
Raoul Sinier - Tremens Industry DVD+CD (Ad Noiseam) [adn115]

multi-talented artist repeat the tour de force that was his 2007's
"Wxfdswxc2": the thirteen tracks of "Tremens Industry" come packaged
together with more than two hours of videos and documentaries. Not only a
logical continuation of his discography or an accurate way to get
acquainted to his art, "Tremens Industry" is Raoul Sinier's definitive and
most important release to date.

Brainstorm - Smile A While CD (Lion Productions) [LION633M]
$15.00
With this record from 1972, BRAINSTORM, led by future GURU GURU
stalwart
ROLAND SCHAEFFER, established themselves as one of Germany's premier bands.
Their complex Krautrock, based on strange harmonics (thanks to Schaeffer's
enthusiasm for Jimi Hendrix and the free jazz sounds of John Coltrane and
Pharoah Sanders), and impelled by wild and distorted sax, flute, and Vox
organ, would later put them smack in the middle of that bible for the
intrepid musical adventurer, the revolutionary music reference guide known
as the Nurse With Wound list. Packaged with a booklet that reproduces all
original LP gatefold art, plus extensive liner-notes. plus Includes three
heavily grooving bonus tracks originally recorded for SWF radio in 1971 as
Fashion Pink.

Hawkwind - Space Ritual Sundown Vol. 2 2CD (Abstract Sounds)
[EMI12333CD] $13.50
2008 release. "The original version of Space Ritual is the definitive
live
document of U.K. space-rock heroes Hawkwind. Vol. 2 features tracks drawn
from the same 1972 performances, but they're presented here in their
original, unedited form. (Apparently the first volume involved a fair
amount of post-production). The swirling electronics, space-cadet lyrics,
and psychedelic guitars that made the band famous can be heard at their
finest here. Motorhead fans, take note: this is where it all started for
Lemmy, whose bass and vocals add plenty of drive to the proceedings."
Marta Kubisova - Ne! The Soul Of Marta Kubisova CD (Vampisoul)
[VAMPI114] $20.75
MARTA KUBISOVA was the most popular Czechoslovak female singer of the
late
1960s, heading for an international career but banned by the communist
regime until 1989. Compiled from the Supraphon archives, this 1966-1970
selection focuses on her roughest songs, with plenty of fuzz guitars and
funky beats, punchy horns and razor-sharp organs underlying her deep and
soulful voice.
Moniek Darge - Soundies (Selected Work 1980-2001) CD (Kye)
[KYE005CD] $13.50
"Moniek Darge has been active as a composer, violinist, performer and
audio
artist since the early 70s. She is most widely recognized as one half of
the pioneering new music group Logos Duo alongside her partner
Godfried-Willem Raes. The Logos Duo, which operates under the umbrella of
the Logos Foundation, have been celebrated both at home in their native
Gent, Belgium and on the international stage. They have performed their
work in countries as diverse as Brazil, New Zealand, Japan and the US.
However, Moniek's solo work has been harder to locate, the last published
collection being Sounds of Sacred Places (Igloo Records, 1987). Soundies is
the first in a series of releases from Kye that aims to bring Moniek's solo
material before a wider audience. Soundies contains the following work:

Various Artists - Face A Frowning World: An E.C. Ball Memorial
Album CD (Tompkins Square) [TSQ2288CD] $12.75
"Featuring Jolie Holland, Jon Langford, Michael Hurley, Bonnie 'Prince'
Billy and many others. E.C. Ball of Rugby, Virginia, drove a school bus,
ran a service station, and, with his wife Orna, made some of the most
joyful, eerie, affecting, and enduring traditional country music around.
First recorded by John A. Lomax for the Library of Congress in 1937, they
sang ballads, comic songs, and mountain gospel music on records and the
radio in a style entirely their own. Face A Frowning World is a tribute to
the music of E.C. and Orna Ball, and a thirty-year memorial to E.C., who
died in 1978. Played in large part by the Health & Happiness Family Gospel
Band of Louisville, Kentucky, and many others."

B-Sanders - B-Electric CD (U-cover) [10567] $15.00
Belgium artist B-Sanders has worked a very long time on his debut
B-electric. On one side he is influenced by the deep Detroit sound and on
the other side he is fascinate by the skills of Murcof. So his excellent
ambient minded album brings tracks that crosses between these two with a
strong personal approch. B-Sanders has the knowledge to combine minimal
music with perfect balanced emotions. On top of it Ontayso brings a dark
version of his 22:22 track. Do not miss out this highly recommended debut

versions than on the CD (to be slightly more DJ friendly). The third volume
will contain two remixes (not included on the CD) by DJ Hidden and Eye-D
(the other half of The Outside Agency).

Pierre Henry & Pierre Schaeffer - Symphonie Pour Un Homme Seul
/ Concerto Des Ambiguites LP (Doxy) [DOZ401LP] $20.25
"Electronic / avant-garde music pioneer and founder of the French
musique
concrète movement, Pierre Schaeffer, a radio engineer, believed that any
sound could be music, and was one of the first to experiment with tape
looping, splicing and sampling. He was also one of the first to record
music on magnetic tape. Drawing inspiration from the Italian Futurists, he
emphasized the double meaning of the word 'play', meaning to play an
instrument, but also to have fun and enjoy oneself. Pierre Henry, a
classically trained musician, was one of Schaeffer's disciples and together
they co-wrote the revolutionary Symphonie pour un Homme Seul, recorded in
1950. Despite its title, it is not a symphony in the classical sense, but a
kind of suite divided into 12 movements. It is a musical collage featuring
vocal fragments, that are at times recorded backwards, accelerated or
repeated, and other sounds like whistles, footsteps, doors slamming,
metallic sounds, and a prepared piano. However, what is important about
this piece is not merely its intrinsic musical value, but its influence on
so many future generations of musicians in so many genres. Symphonie pour
un Homme Seul, over half a century later, remains a pioneering experiment
in the search for new aural horizons. The Concerto side reveals Henry's
personal approach to dissonance, with a strong impact of illogical
sequences in the piano 'duel': the two instruments seem to collide in a
furious rejection of the traditional idea of music, generating a clash of
noises that reproduces the sonic pollution of the modern times."
Raymond Scott Quintette - Radio Music LP (Doxy) [DOX827LP]
$20.25
"A major American composer, electronic music pioneer, and all-around
fascinating figure in the American musical panorama, the Brooklyn-born
Raymond Scott (1908-1994) is perhaps most widely known because his music
was widely used as the background music for many a Warner Bros. cartoon.
He, however, was also a hugely successful pop artist, and during the late
1930s his albums sold in the millions of copies, despite criticism from
jazz and classical music purists who did not understand Scott's brand of
musical fusion and chose to write it off as 'novelty music'. He formed his
'quintette' in 1936 and the group recorded for Irving Mills' legendary
Master Records a kind of Swing music dubbed 'descriptive jazz' by Scott. He
gave his compositions unusual titles like 'Square Dance for Eight Egyptian
Mummies', 'Dinner Music For A Pack of Hungry Cannibals', and 'Hypnotist in
Hawaii'. Scott's maverick approach to music and musical theory (he did not
believe in writing anything down) followed him into the board room (he made
history in 1942 by being the first man in radio to hire black musicians)
and the control room as well where he began to 'design and manufacture
electronic music devices and systems' including new electronic instruments
like the 'Clavivox' and the 'Electronium'. Scott used his new technology to
record commercials for TV and radio using entirely electronic music. He
also foresaw a future where everyday sounds (like the telephone ringer, and
the beep an alarm clock) would be replaced by electronic ones and worked to
make that future a reality. Robert Moo also worked for Scott, and cites him
as a major influence."
Vidna Obmana - 1984-1986 Testament Of Tape LP (Vinyl On Demand)
[VOD065LP] $23.25
One LP version, limited to 123 copies (or, maybe slightly more?)
"1984-1986
Testament Of Tape captures vidnaObmana in its most experimental phase
during the obscure tape period, searching for its own musical voice... LP
number 1 combines very beat-orientated-material in best manner of early
Blackhouse or even Esplendor Geometrico."
Vidna Obmana - 1984-1986 Testament Of Tape LP Box (Vinyl On
Demand) [VOD065LTD-LP] $69.50
"1984-1986 Testament Of Tape captures vidnaObmana in its most
experimental
phase during the obscure tape period, searching for its own musical voice.
Dirk Serries (well-known sound-artist, especially known for his Fear Falls
Burning releases) is moving on this box-set through various styles, from
utterly relentless noise music to rhythmical industrial outbursts. This 3LP
set features unreleased and extremely rare tracks from a personal friend's
private collection (music that was recorded exclusively for him) to songs
from early cassettes releases. While LP number 1 combines very
beat-orientated-material in best manner of early Blackhouse or even
Esplendor Geometrico, LP 2 and 3 present the fundamentals and roots for his
later works. 3LP box limited to 477 copies."
Wanda Jackson - Wanda Jackson LP (Doxy) [DOY622LP]
$20.25
"Originally released in 1958, by the time her debut album came out
Jackson,
only 21 at the time, was already a seasoned performer. Discovered while
still in high school singing country for an Oklahoma City radio station, by
1955 she was touring with Elvis Presley, who encouraged her to sing more in
the rockabilly style, where she soon gained a huge fan base. However, this
first album for Capitol shows just how versatile she could be, able to sing
anything from traditional country to pop. She was also, interestingly the
first country singer to bring a more glamourous style (one that would soon
become standard in the country world) into her stage image, thanks to her
mother's handmade flashy stage costumes. Contains 6 bonus tracks from the
CD version."

Aardvarck - Bloom 4 12 inch (Bloom) [BLOOM004EP] $12.25
Some serious shit again from Aardvarck, this time showing the more
industrial side of influences along with some lush, deep ambience. This 12"
is white-label style, so when they are gone, they are gone!
Alex Under - Muscle Tracks II 12 inch (Trapez) [TRAPEZ102EP]
$11.50
Alex Under releases a stunning follow-up to Muscle Tracks. "Mustang" is
fast, deep and cool, with a nicely-controlled pace. "Charger" is massively
rocking and seems to suck up all the air around it. "Firebird" is a
fat-sounding house track which can be played by house DJs as well as techno
DJs, using a walking bass-line and a super-tight, slapping snare and cool
house vocals. It develops into a hi-energy, appegiator-driven track,
showing Under's talent for moving between genres.
Andre Winter - Dogma 12 inch (Ideal) [IDEAL008EP]
$12.25
André Winter delivers his second exclusive Ideal Audio release, Dogma.
It
is dark, it is hypnotic, it is modern techno music. The original amazes
with its number of sequences, which Mr. Winter twists and turns. Beats and
rhythms clash one after the other, creating a mysterious and threatening,
yet curious atmosphere. The B-side offers Pan-Pot's treatment of the track
-- massive and somewhat housier, bringing exciting sound effects to the
surface.
Anton Pieete - Be My Rescue 12 inch (Intacto) [INTAC022EP]
$11.50
Despite the temperatures in Siberia, Anton Pieete's "Siberian" is
guaranteed to ignite the crowds with its sizzling, sensual beats. On the
flip, "Be My Rescue" is a rolling tribal techno slammer with filtered,
catchy vocal snippets.
Ashtray Navigations - Ashtray Navigations LP (Nashazphone) [NP009LP]
$25.75
"This newest candle burning outing from the long going UK psych project
headed by Mr. Phil Todd continues the quest for the farthest possible
cosmic frequencies through FX, guitar, synth, and saz on a bed of field
recordings. Some tracks in here almost enter the pantheon of NEW AGE MUSIC!
Edition of 200 copies."
Astreinte - C'est Pourquoi Il Importe, Aux Ä?poques
D'adversité... LP (Nashazphone) [NP007LP] $25.75
...De Demeurer Intérieurement Fort Et Sobre De Paroles. "No one knows
or
will ever know who Astreinte are and what their story is. If ever told,
they'll be immediately elevated to cult status considering their personal
backgrounds and live shows (besides the fact that anything remotely French,
sounds wonderful in North America nowadays). Astreinte is a five to nine
members collective delivering a totally deafening sonic wall assault
directly inspired by Japanese legends such as Hijokaidan or CCCC. The group
mainly consists of hippies, crust punks, industrialists, garage rockers and
a jazz fanatic. Dwelling in and around Pau, in the south west of France,
near the Pyrenees and the Spanish border, their very scarce and violent
live appearances have been greeted with comparatively aggressive and
emotionally charged reactions. C'est pourquoi il importe... is their debut
LP as a nine piece (vocals, guitar, bass, trumpet, drums, 2 x synths,
electronics). Edition of 190 copies."
Attacca Pesante - Make It Funky For Me 12 inch (Digital
Soundboy Records) [SBOY025EP] $9.00
"'Make It Funky For Me' the big track on the funky house circuit that's
been bubbling under for the last few months, is finally getting its
national release on Shy FX's label Digital SoundBoy. The funky house or UK
funky scene has been emerging for a while but it remains the movement to
watch as producers, vocalists and now MCs continue to get inventive and
push to create the new generation of house, garage, dub-step, afro-beat etc
combined. It continues to garner more and more fans and is keeping the
raving massive up and down the country happy. Producers Zack B, Dean MFJ
and Ashley H aka Attacca Pesante could have made the track that bridges the
gap between the underground and mainstream land with their feel-good groove
of the summer. With huge support from Mista Jam and Ras Kwame and play
listed at Radio 1xtra and Choice FM. Make It Funky For Me is also being
supported by Kiss FM and Radio 1 DJ's Annie Mac, Trevor Nelson and Vernon
Kay. Attacca Pesante hail from South London and have been making music
together since 2003."
Bipolar Bear - Harlem Pripyat LP (Mexican Summer) [LPBIPOLHARL]
$19.75
With a slew of numerous releases on various DIY style labels, Mexican
Summer brings together a full length album from one of the premier bands
from Downtown LA's hip underground music experimental punk scene. Expect
challenging yet catchy art grooves influenced by Monorchid, Antelope,
Captain Beefheart, Creedence Cleerwater Revival, and many more.
Birds of Delay - A Living Room At The Bottom Of A Lake LP
(Nashazphone) [NP004LP] $25.75
"Birds Of Delay is a Leeds duo whose first half lives in London (and
loves
Whitehouse and Rush) and the other in Berlin (and loves Farley Jackmaster
Funk). With several releases on labels such as Chocolate Monk, American
Tapes, Troniks, Hospital Productions, or their own: Alcoholic Narcolepsy,
Luke and Steven have been crafting and sculpting their
psychedelic-electronic-noise-drone sound for over half a decade. But who
cares and what does that sound description mean anyway? If you ask them,
they'll simply tell you A Living Room At The Bottom Of A Lake is a
projection into a TOTAL RAINBOW BLISS zone! Edition of 240 copies."
Bodo Elsel - Mein Haus 12 inch (Turbo Recordings) [TURBO073EP]
$12.00
"Bodo Elsel has only done a handful of records and the two that I've
known
and loved since 1998 were put out on Playhouse, the excellent housey
sister-label of mighty Klang Elektronik. One track in particular, 'Discount
Baby,' has always stood out in my mind as a high water mark in the sacred
art of groove (you may have heard of it). Punchy accents and resonant bass
layered with trippy vocal loops; it's dubby acid house of the highest
order, made by a mysterious German Lego-master, who the A&R team of Mike
Mind and Thomas St Shindig managed to coax back into activity. It only took
Bodo a year to answer Mr. Mind's email, but he eventually delivered three
amazing tracks... 'Haustier' revitalizes piano house. 'Mai' is incredible,
and 'Mein Haus' is one of the top few all-time expressions of the
greatness/meaning of Germany, putting it in the fine company of the
Autobahn, Sven Väth and Christmas-Market Schwein. NICE WIBES!! The icing on
the cake was that Bodo made it very clear he wanted no part in royalties or
any of that business crap... he just wanted 42 copies of the record. Yes.
42. We were so inspired by all of this that we decided to put this record
out in a different way for us that just feels right this time.... If you
want to find out just how good the Mein Haus EP is, you'll have no choice
but to buy a copy of the 12" because this one is a VINYL EXCLUSIVE!"
Brackles - Rawkus 12 inch (Planet Mu) [ZIQ247] $7.00
Following his LHC 12-inch on Planet Mu, BRACKLES steps up once again
with
two adventurous, Day-Glo tracks shamelessly built to drive people mad on
the dancefloor. This new single recalls the eclectic nature of Brackles' DJ
sets and his love of two-step garage. "Rawkus" pits funky, galloping drums
against smeary synths and bassy, old-school bleeps, dropping in the
occasional cut-up vocal sample as a nod to two-step. It's held together in
a seriously drunken manner, evoking Detroit masters Derrick May or Kenny
Larkin at their best. "Air Pie" sounds like standard dubstep after a few
espressos. Nervy and energetic, its stop-start rhythms also harken back to
two-step, but the claps are pure grime and Brackles builds the track in a
way borrowed directly from prime-time techno. No exports outside North
America or Japan
Breakage feat. Roots Manuva - Run Em Out/Higher 12 inch
(Digital Soundboy Records) [SBOY024EP] $9.00
"Having been releasing music since 2001 with over 40 productions and
remixes to his name, Breakage, aka James Boyle, cut his teeth a long time
ago and is widely regarded as one of the most talented producers in dubstep
and drum n bass today. Acting almost as a double A-side, both 'Run Em Out'
and 'Higher' show the range in sounds that Breakage is capable of. 'Run Em
Out' featuring the unmistakable vocals from the legendary Roots Manuva, is
a future anthem in the making, with a drum n bass tempo but without a big
drop, its the brooding sense of attitude and rhythm that come to the fore.
Without doubt a huge record that will be stuck in your head for days.
'Higher' on the flip is a dubstep battle weapon to challenge the very best,
a massive bass-heavy workout with a breakdown that goes on and on, then
finally kicks back in with that famous looped sample, literally taking you
higher and higher."
Bukaddor & Fishbeck - Bonusmeilen/Riffpunk 12 inch (My Best
Friend) [MBF12060EP] $11.50
Bukaddor & Fishbeck pay tribute to the funky side of disco using modern
techniques on Bonusmeilen. The title track bursts with energy right from
the beginning, skillfully including lots of small sounds and mini-breaks
cutting into the rhythm, creating an unbelievable tension. A trumpet makes
its way into the track and tears it apart. "Riffpunk" has destroyed
dancefloors during the duo's live sets with its slapping, emotional chords
and funky guitars. Similarities with Daft Punk are purely coincidental.
Burnkane - You Know 12 inch (Planet Mu) [ZIQ251] $7.00
Washington DC's BURNKANE is a recent Planet Mu signing and a new artist
morphing the dubstep template beyond recognition. Across two tracks
Burnkane demonstrates a unique take on the sound. "You Know" is a
barely-held-together mix of smudgy cello and auto-tuned vocals in a fog of
atmospheric echo, with minimal, buried drums holding the track together.
It's the sort of unusual dubstep vision one could imagine Kevin Shields
making. "You Will Forget" starts slow and dense with a lumbering bassline
and treated vocals before breaking into JAMES J.K. HUGHES's vocals and
snappy, upbeat drums. Burnkane treats a typical pop format it until it's
dubbed out into something strange and narcotic. No exports outside North
America or Japan
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Dust Sucker 2xLP (Ozit)
[OZIT8006GRELP] $38.75
2008 release, now on green-colored vinyl, higher price. "The new Ozit
vinyl
sets are all deluxe in terms of packaging, gatefold sleeves with PVC
protective covers and all 180 gram vinyl based on the Simply Vinyl type of
special vinyl re-issues. These sets are limited to 1000 copies only
worldwide and will not be around for too long. This 2LP set includes the 12
tracks from the Captain's own tape of the original Bat Chain Puller album
(you will never have heard these tracks in this quality). When Mojo did a
feature recently on classic lost albums, this was one of the main albums
featured. There are a further 7 extra tracks, including 5 live recordings
of tracks from 'Bat Chain Puller,' plus a version of 'Well Well Well'
featuring Rockette Morton and a live festival performance of 'My Human Gets
Me Blues.'"
Chasing Shadows - Ill 12 inch (Hench) [HENCH011EP]
$10.25
"This is the second 12" from recent Hench signing, Chasing Shadows. The
duo
drop some serious pressure with these dark and dirty tunes straight from
the heart of cutting-edge dubstep production. They've already received
attention from the likes of: Mary Anne Hobbs, Pendulum, Plastician, N-Type,
and Benga, so give them a listen and see what all the hype's about! A.
'Ill' - 'Ill' builds from an eerie intro, with sultry guitar chords and
stabbing beat, slowly winding up to an immense drop. With twisted beats, a
punishing b-line, and sweeping atmospherics, this is iller than 'Ill' - the
bass is so low it will probably make you sick! Grimy and growling, this is
a tune that's going to tear your immune system to shreds. AA. 'Amirah' -
Flip over for another dark, deep, no-nonsense number with 'Amirah'; with
ominous atmospherics, a stabbing drumbeat, and oriental female vox,
'Amirah' has plenty of spice and a feisty kick! A helicopter chopper sound
fades in and out of consciousness and adds to the mayhem. Powerful and
intense, with pummelling subs, heavy bassline and a thumping drum kick,
'Amirah' is a tune that takes no prisoners!"
Chelonis R. Jones - The Cockpit 12 inch (Systematic)
[SYST060EP] $12.25
"'The Cockpit is my personal favorite song on the Chelonis album and it
has
taken me sleepless nights (and days) to find the 'right' remixers. A
special thanks to Ekkohaus who delivered two different mixes and spent a
lot of energy and passion on these productions. And also 'merci' to Steve
Rachmad and Paul Woolford, guys who created passionate tech house."
--Chelonis R. Jones
Cluekid & LD - I Don't Wanna Cry 12 inch (Bullfrog Beats)
[CAS004EP] $10.25
"Bullfrog Beats is the independent record label from South London based
producer Cluekid. The intention: To bring you the freshest sounds from
Cluekid himself plus co-productions with other artists. Check out the
'chest-cutting' backlog of tunes that have already been released on this
label."
Damian Lazarus - Memory Box/Spinnin' 12 inch (Get Physical
Music) [GPM120EP] $12.25
This limited 12" consists of brand new club edits of two strange and
enchanting stand-out tracks from Damian Lazarus' debut full-length Smoke
The Monster Out. "Memory Box" is darkly humorous and has been re-tooled
alongside studio engineer Kenneth James Gibson aka [a]pendics.shuffle. The
original rave king Sasha takes on Lazarus' "Spinnin,'" looping and chopping
the vocals -- courtesy of Lazarus and Taxi Taxi -- into trippy shrapnel.
With its stripped-back rhythm and buzzing bass line, this track has real
momentum.
Dan Ghenacia & Djebali - Eightball Deluxe 12 inch (Freak N'
Chic) [FNC044EP] $12.25
Freak 'n Chic main man Dan Ghenacia teams up with Freak n'Chic new
talent,
Djebali. With "Eightball," the duo deliver an electro-break-fuelled slice
of deep house which sounds 100% fresh. Filtered and phased chords swirl
around the mix, creating a blanket of warmth while frantic hi-hats push the
track forward with enough drive for peak-time moments. "Now You Need" is a
darker affair, with jarring percussive effects and a staccato bass line
welded to a clinical drum track to create an austere yet infectious groove.
An unmissable release.
Daniel Meteo - In Club Mood (With Abe Duque) 12 inch
(Shitkatapult) [STRIKE106EP] $10.75
This outstanding record by Berlin's Shitkatapult features the most
clubbing
hit on Daniel Meteo's house album Working Class, in its original version
and also a Chicago/Detroit acid house remix by Abe Duque, who takes "In The
Mood" down to the underground with pitched-down vocals, acid chainsaws,
Detroit bass drums, strings, keys, etc. Unreleased dance track "Audio
Quattro" combines 4-to-the-floor and half-beat to create the future funk of
electronic music. Stevie Wonder meets current club music.
Daniel Roth - Lunar Magnet 12 inch (Be Chosen) [BECH010EP]
$11.50
"A look into your calendar will show you the bitter truth: summer is
nearly
over. BUT: be_chosen is your friend with bringing back the essence of
house. Daniel comes hereby with fresh and groovy attitudes, that we highly
wanna support. This 4 tracker will give you a introduction of what Daniel
is able to serve. Knowing each other from back in the days, Christian
Burkhardt couldn't resist to add a fine and delicious remix which will show
you how 'the blow you know.' say welcome to our new be_chosen label
member."
Danton Eeprom/Sierra Sam - Scoring Only To Be On The Safe Side
EP/Mannequin 12 inch (Contexterrior) [CNTXT037EP] $11.50
Contexterrior presents two EPs on one slab of vinyl featuring Danton
Eeprom
and Sierra Sam. With lead track "There's Nothing To Be Afraid About Now,"
Danton takes the atonality of Varèse or Stravinsky onto the dancefloor,
followed by the more electro-based "My Life In Parallel." Sierra Sam's
"Suit Yourself" features a clattering pastiche of percussion, and "Phony
Man" is built upon a dynamic bounce with a disembodied voice murmuring
through the ether.
David August - Trumpets Victory 12 inch (Stil Vor Talent)
[SVT038EP] $11.50
David August will keep everyone grooving with his swing-oriented techno
for
Stil Vor Talent. "Trumpets Victory" features a stompy bass-line, an old
school clap snare, a cut-up vocal, some white noise, and then the most
beautiful trumpet melody imaginable. On "Guitarra Baja," a Spanish guitar
reminds us of how house music used to be: groovy, bouncy, seminal.
"Children" is a more percussive house affair with a playful organ line
joyfully jumping up and down over bongos and metallic hi-hats.
Deadbeat/Fenin - Romeo Kalimba/Teach The Devil's Son 12 inch
(Echocord Colour) [ECHOCOL009EP] $11.50
Deadbeat aka Scott Monteith from Montreal made this EP with Lars Fenin
from
Berlin. Deadbeat is mostly known from his releases on ~scape, Cynosure and
Wagon Repair. Fenin has been releasing several 12"s on Echocord, but also
on labels like Shitkatapult. "Romeo Kalimba" is a jackin', super-powerful
track in between dubstep and techno -- a total floor-burner, while "Teach
The Devil's Son" is a darker, 4-to-the-floor, pumpin' techno track. Both
tracks are absolutely made for the peak-time dancefloor.
DJ Hidden - The Words Below 12 inch (Ad Noiseam) [adn114]
$11.25
This 12" is the first volume of "The Words Below"'s limited vinyl
edition.
DJ Hidden - The Words Below 12 inch (Ad Noiseam) [adn119]
$11.25
This 12" is the second volume of "The Words Below"'s limited vinyl
edition.
Donnacha Costello - Ten Thousand Hours 12 inch (Look Long)
[LNG004EP] $11.50
Donnacha Costello returns to his Look Long imprint with the storming,
one-sided monster that is "Ten Thousand Hours." To begin, an ominous,
growling analog siren calls out from Costello's Roland SH-101, before
rattling, shuffling hi-hats mark out the groove towards an ecstatic,
7-minute analog journey through the wispy shadows of S-Express, 808 State,
Mathew Jonson and Costello's own classic Colorseries sound. "Ten Thousand
Hours" is a very limited one-sided vinyl edition and won't be re-pressed.
Don't sleep.
El-G - Capitaine Présent LP (Nashazphone) [NP006LP]
$25.75
"Monsieur Laurent Gerard, aka Ä?l-g, aka one third of Ghedalia
Tazartes'
Reines d'Angleterre has been slowly building a little world of his own with
several homemade records, cassettes and CD-Rs through the past few years
and also through several interesting collaborations. Capitaine Présent is
his most intimate project with already 4 volumes released on CD, cassette
and DVD. This fifth outing (and first on vinyl) consists of a
hallucinogenic promenade inside his psyche. Cut up spoken words, poetry,
cosmic standup comedy from the afterlife, synth insanity, make up this,
sometimes very eerie, personal release. Edition of 160 copies."
Eleh/Nana April Jun - Observations & Momentum LP (Touch)
[TONE039LP] $17.25
The Touch label presents the Observations & Momentum split LP as a
great
opportunity to hear noise minimalist Eleh and Swedish visual/sound artist
Christofer Lämgren aka Nana April Jun at their finest. Nana April Jun's
track "Sun Wind Darkness Eye" is taken from the album The Ontology Of Noise
(TONE 037CD), particularly because it stands out as being perfect for a
vinyl edition. In the same time-frame, the series of releases by Eleh on
Important Records attracted the Touch label's attention. These homages to
La Monte Young, Pauline Oliveros and Charlemagne Palestine, as vinyl-only
limited editions, stunned with their acuity and passion for detail. There
was something acutely other in their sound. Eleh, also, is an artist who
prefers the work to speak for itself, and has other provocative ideas about
noise. The digital is questioned by a commitment to a working practice
based around analog tone-generators and letter-press printed covers. The
Important Records/Taiga releases are now sought-after with a passion by
anyone who recognizes something truly special occurring. On this recording,
Eleh develops the waveforms that the Important Records series started. The
split vinyl format is a great meeting point for this idea of digital
persona and analog privacy. The effect, it is hoped, is for the vinyl to
represent a digital question: that this LP summons up a universal sound and
an intimate sphere of operations, which is, of course, a continuing
dilemma. Limited edition of 1,000 copies. Art & photography by Jon
Wozencroft.
Emalkay - When I Look At You 12 inch (Dub Police) [DP034EP]
$11.00
"Dub Police drop an absolute peach of a single here from Birmingham's
ever
rising star Emalkay. This side see's the massive 'When I Look At You' get a
release, and with support from Caspa, Benga, Skream, N-Type & just about
anyone who is anyone battering the living daylights out of this tune its
not hard to see why this has now got to the anthem status it so thoroughly
deserves. A real epic intro with luscious pads and pitched vocals, before
an absolutely ferocious drop of squelching bass and stomping beats. So big,
it's criminal! The flip couldn't be any more different, but don't let that
put you off. 'Angie Got Stoned' is sheer genius with its quirky piano lead,
skippy beats, sweet vocals and warm bass. In all honesty words cannot
really give this track any justice, just listen to it yourself and enjoy
this masterpiece that Emalkay has unleashed on to the world. An absolutely
essential release for any dubstep fan!"
Emerson Todd - Dr. Jurd 12 inch (Get Digital Music) [GDM008EP]
$12.25
Emerson Todd makes his Get Physical debut with 3 tracks of funk-laden
and
infectious house. With a previous release for the Dirtybird label and a
coveted spot at the helm of a Resident Advisor podcast, Emerson Todd's
profile is set to rise further still. "Dr. Jurd" pulsates with infectious
tribal rhythms and cut-up vocal samples, before evolving into sleek,
synth-driven tech-house. "Jacob" is a living, breathing dancefloor monster,
and "Touche" touches on U.S.-style deep house, with an epic, atmospheric
breakdown.
Faltydl - Party 12 inch (Ramp) [RAMP025EP] $10.25
"FaltyDL returns to RAMP after the painfully deep To London, and his
acclaimed Love Is A Liability album on some other label earlier this year,
with a new 12" of sleazy 2step vibes. 'Party' gets things moving with DL's
most organic production to date, resonating in your brain like the jaded
memory of an uncomfortable lap dance from an impromptu trip to the future.
Flip the wax for the warm fuzzy minimal garage vibes of 'Alpafun,' a tune
that Mr. Lustman hates so much, he never wanted it to see the light of day.
Just to spite the cocky New Yorker, we are putting it out."
F*** Buttons - Tarot Sport 2xLP (ATP) [ATPR035LP]
$18.25
This is the second full-length release by Bristol, UK duo, FUCK
BUTTONS.
Conceived by ANDREW HUNG and BENJAMIN JOHN POWER in the winter of 2004, the
group was initially born as an outlet for their nihilistic-noise tendencies
but quickly, the two F*** Buttons realized they could harness the use of
noise as a tool to immerse and evoke. No longer afraid of melody or rhythm,
the group started fusing all these elements to the point when drone becomes
melody becomes rhythm. The track "Surf Solar" received a Best New Music,
8.0 tag from Pitchfork.
Gaiser - Flashed 12 inch (Minus) [MINUS082EP] $10.75
Gaiser's Flashed EP features four instantly-accessible techno cuts.
With a
set of low melodic toms hanging back as the snare shepherds in another
sublime Gaiser motif, "Backyard" revolves around a reverse melody that
gives the sensation of simultaneous forward and reverse motion. "Flashed"
reaches darker territory. Lined with reverberations and sonic hallucinogens
that slow the senses, the riff steals the limelight, shifting through space
and time, worming its way deep into your brain until its luminescence has
infiltrated every corpuscle.
Gegenheimer & Jenius - Basic Shape 12 inch (Moodmusic)
[MOOD079EP] $11.50
This is the Barcelona-based, Sweden-born power duo of Marco Gegenheimer
and
Jens Rosengren aka Gegenheimer & Jenius. Both are active in the Spanish
house scene with their label collective, Ourvision. "Basic Shape" has a
tech-housey, almost early techno feel with phasing keys, dry
drum-programming and a Detroitish big break. "Cadaqués" is housier, but
still keeps the groove as a main theme. "IPS" is a classic, quality deep
house track which shows the musical roots of these talented producers.
Golden Boys - Thee Electric Wolfman LP (Daggerman) [DMR015]
$14.50
The fourth album from Austin, TX beer-drenched rockers, GOLDEN BOYS, is
a
shambolic collection of party rockers and soulful wailers. Produced by GREG
ASHLEY (of GRIS GRIS) with guest musicians including Ashley, Memphis legend
ROSS JOHNSON and the SPIDER BAGS. Co-released with Alien Snatch Records.
The LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and includes a free download. "The
Golden Boys are real Texas punk rock. There's no pretense, no etiquette,
and there, on the faces of all six nonboys, are huge, stretched-out smiles.
Remember when rock & roll used to be fun?"-Austin Chronicle
Golden Bug - Assasin 12 inch (Bang Gang 12 Inches) [BANG023EP]
$11.50
"After his debut album Hot Robot on Gomma last year and remixes for the
likes of Delphic, GLOVES, Adam Freeland, Rodion and Lost Valentinos, Golden
Bug crosses many a ocean to release his fresh 5 track cut-disco release on
Australian label, BangGang 12"s. 'Assasin' is a slow temp new school
electro track with a dark hypnotic bassline, acid keyboards and pitched
vocals. 'Ghost Day' is a chugging spaced out cosmic disco track featuring
Yoshimi Yamano Aka AMWE from Japan on guest vocals. 'Last Dance in Tokyo'
is a Tribal discoid summer jam with tonnes of vocoder, '80s keyboard
stylings and a killer of a (watch ya bassbins) bassline. 'Lord of Pleasure'
is a building dancefloor weapon with tripped out and more guitarefor all
the 70's disco funk fans. And then on remix duties Gloves takes 'Last
Dance', keeping slabs of the original and reworks in into a ozzie hands in
the air summer piano disco house affair."
Green Velvet - Destination Unknown 12 inch (Velvet)
[VELVET005EP] $12.00
"Limited re-issues of these Green Velvet classics, first pressing on
green
vinyl! A - Destination Unknown; B - Why Try."
Green Velvet - Answering Machine 12 inch (Velvet) [VELVET006EP]
$12.00
"Limited re-issues of these Green Velvet classics, first pressing on
green
vinyl! A - Answering Machine; B - Land Of The Lost."
Guido Schneider Meets Jens Bond - Getting Sleepy 12 inch
(Highgrade) [HIGH067EP] $11.50
Eijajei - Aye ya yay! This is a hit record! But what else would you
expect
when two of Berlin's hottest DJs and producers, Guido Schneider and Jens
Bond, are working together? "Getting Sleepy" reclines into a laid-back
groove that hooks straight into the rhythm, creating a perfect atmosphere
for the psychedelic vocals and hypnotic groove. "Eijeijei" is the highlight
of the record: warm drums, siren-like vocals, and incredibly smooth beats
which make this track so special.
Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts - The Pussy Shepherd 12 inch
(Musique Risquee) [RISQUEE020EP] $11.50
Musique Risquée presents Guillaume And The Coutu Dumonts' The Pussy
Shepherd EP. The title track was licensed for Sebo K's mix CD for Watergate
Records.
Hatikvah - Synchronicity 12 inch (Baalsaal) [BAAL012EP]
$11.50
"After the huge success of their first single from Hatikvah on baalsaal
by
the name of Modern Times, Hatikvah is back with the title track of their
upcoming album Synchronicity. On A1 we find the original version of
'Synchronicity'. The deepness from second 1 struck us right away on this
one. While the twittering of the birds accompany the groove, Florian
suddenly drops the first line and you can feel it ? this is gonna be
special indeed. The perfect song to get a sneak peak of the upcoming album
due beginning next year. 'Zen' on A2 shows the playful side of Florian and
Helmut when it comes to beats and detailed programming. Keeping the
deepness at all times, carefully placed percussions build a hell of a
groover. 'Zen' will find its place in many DJ sets warming up, or calming
the floor for a beautiful breakdown. Let the sun rise.. B1 brings a remix
by the label owners 'Chopstick & Johnjon'. Starting up with a groove that
reminds me of early hours at berghain, this one will go all the way. Every
sound slowly changes forms and shapes to Florian's first few vocal lines
till we are on repeat with the amazing quote 'be part of the solution'. A
break, a breakdown and off you go.... On B2 we have a summer groover from
New York's Brendon Moeller. A light house beat brings a smile to your face
and you feel this breeze that everyone was hoping for. A high stringpad
plays around the vocals and takes it away for a beautiful warm night on the
beach. Hypnotic indeed."
Ital Tek - Mako 12 inch (Atom River) [ATM001EP] $11.00
"Ital Tek (Alan Myson) is back with his second release of 2009: Mako
EP,
proving again that he is carving his own sound within the spectrum of bass
music. His busy international touring schedule and releases on the infamous
Planet Mu label have cemented his reputation as one of the most inventive
producers working under the dubstep banner today. Following on from 2008's
acclaimed album Cyclical and 2009's Massive Error this is the debut release
for his own imprint Atom River. Over 4 tracks it sees Ital Tek once again
perfectly bridging the gap between dubstep, techno and electronica whilst
retaining strong dance floor energy. 'Mako' opens the record with one of
Ital Tek's warmest and thickest sounding tunes to date. Driving fuzz bass
and a searing twisted lead push the track onwards over a bed of glorious
chord progressions. 'Chemical Temple' stomps in with a lurching half step
rhythm and thick cutting synth lines before breaking down in a pulsating
double time bass driven mesh of tight flickering percussion and distant
ghostly melodies breaking through into the foreground. 'Manhattan' sets
things off with a bang on the B side. Sharp cold metallic breaks drop into
a heavy driving bass throb. The drums cut through the track with shattering
precision allowing the bass to whip out the solid rhythm, whilst again
complimenting Ital Tek's knack for melody. 'Topaz' closes the record with a
hard hitting techno - dubstep crossover. Pounding kicks and crisp
percussion swell over the course of 5 minutes into a crescendo of swirling
synths before dropping finally into an epic rinse out. This record once
again shows Ital Tek's ability to bring both heaviness and beauty to music
that is as equally suited in a club as it is sound tracking a late night
drive."
Jacuzzi Boys - Cascabela 12 inch (Level Non Zero) [LNZ029EP]
$11.50
"After their great release on Below Records, the Jacuzzi Boys bring us
the
next BOMB on levelNONzero. The original track, called 'Cascabela,' comes
along with a deep groove and an evil voice which keeps the dancefloor under
pressure. But at the latest, when this crazy 'cascabela sound' rises during
the break, you will see the crowd freaking out. On the flip, Chris Wood &
Pascal Feos stuck together and created a remix, which is deeper and more
into house than the original."
Jeff Mills - The Defender 12 inch (Axis) [AX056EP]
$8.75
"The second installment to The Good Robot series. This release is about
Protection and Security. In the future, we'll depend more on servant Robots
to assist us in our everyday lives. One of these tasks will be security.
The Defender is not only equipped to warn of any potential threat to you or
your loved ones, but it will also handle all the messy incidental
arrangements that could persist after a alleged assault took place. Things
like: apprehending the suspects, filing police reports, criminal IDs,
disaster clean-up, witness confirmations and many more time consuming tasks
that eats away at your precious time. Quality time that can be spent with
family and friends."
Joe McPhee - Alto LP (Roaratorio) [ROAR017LP] $15.25
"Alto joins Tenor and Soprano to complete a discrete trilogy within Joe
McPhee's catalog of unaccompanied waxings. Recorded live at a Lower East
Side bar in 2009, McPhee's explorations on alto saxophone and clarinet are
alternately fiery and contemplative, imbued with the masterful intelligence
that's marked his work for over forty years. A limited edition of 525
copies on 180 gram vinyl, with a Judith Lindbloom silkscreen print on rice
paper and liner notes by Hank Shteamer. Digital download coupon included."
Kadebostan - Vodka Wedding 12 inch (Freude Am Tanzen)
[FREUDE045EP] $11.50
Kadebostan is already a rarity in the cosmos of the electronic music
world.
His pieces are marked with a unique, yet humble gesture of melancholic
tone. He conjures music with the dignity of a proud swan -- the only thing
left to wonder at is the soul of the hearer, when it is infected with
sounds in the cells of the body, regardless of leisurely or impulsive bent.
These are three tracks devoted to club-lust and sensory stimulus.
Kasper - Chicago Take 12 inch (Bloop) [BLOOP012EP]
$11.50
"Bloop is fast becoming a bit of a 'name' amongst those in the know for
quality output across the house spectrum so it's no surprise to see Net28,
Esperanza and Lomidhigh rising star Kasper on the imprint with his Chicago
Take 12". If you've checked the Spaniard's recent contributions to Wolf &
Lamb or Net28, you'll be aware of his funk laced house wigglers which
combine old and new wonderfully and 'Chicago Take' is no different.
Evocative of the golden age of uncomplicated house, 'Chicago Take' fuses
basic 909 drums with a filtered funk bass line, resulting in a simple yet
effective dancefloor bomb which fits the Bloop remit nicely. The incredibly
consistent Lauhaus of Remote Area and Soweso delivers a remix which, while
similarly stripped back, is a little more melodic and low slung. Call and
answer stabs, licks and vocal effects all create memorable hooks so the
track lingers in the mind. Finally, the aptly titled 'Just a House Groove'
provides some bass heavy, spoken vocal sampling, New York styled house
which is as deep as it is pounding."
Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - Here Be Dragons LP+CD (Ad
Noiseam) [adn120-1] $22.00
For their second full length album, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
set
their sails towards uncharted territories and unveiled a new symbiosis of
warm electronica and dusky yet clear acoustic instrumentation. Familiar yet
unsettling, varied yet coherent, dark yet warm, the highly detailled maps
of "Here Be Dragons" form TKDE's most personal and crafted release, a
mesmerising combination of traditional and modern sounds, and a highly
rewarding album.
Kion & Murda feat. Junior Murvin - Number 1 Sound 12 inch
(Little Island) [LIR001EP] $10.25
"Brand new label Little Island Records brought to you by Jacky Murda
come
firing on all cylinders for their first release featuring Brighton boys
Kion & Murda on production and a big vocal cut from Junior Murvin, big dub
reggae influences is on the menu with Little Island, expect big name
producers teaming up with very talented vocalists. Check the flip for the
Tes La Rok remix, the dancefloor is ready and primed for this one to drop."
Kutz - Glitchy Finger 12 inch (Wheel & Deal) [WHEELY002EP]
$10.25
"Rewind from the recent 003 (Matt-U) release and we see a debut release
on
N-Type's label from London based supremo KUTZ, famed for his releases early
in his career on Soul Jazz. Typifying the gritty side of the dubstep sound
with his hard hitting Coki-esque beats, big support for his music comes
from Skream, N-Type, Chef, Hatcha and the majority of the London heads.
More music needed by this producer, snap this one up quick!"
Leon Segka - Kude 12 inch (Ntrop Recordings) [NTROP017EP]
$12.00
"Supported by Damian Lazarous, Mr Statik, Siopis & Felizol With his new
single Kude, Leon Segka emerge a cut of detroit dub and electro. An
outgoing kick and bass driving his dark atackless pads while spooky
whispers are crawling in beetween. At the b-side Bodycode from Spectral
clearly reinstall 'Kude' to his future-retro style."
Les Gillettes - Pompeii/R U From London? 12 inch (New Judas)
[JUDAS009EP] $12.25
This is the debut release by Les Gillettes on the New Judas label, with
remixes by Obi Blance and Mikix The Cat. "Pompeii" is throbbing, ravey,
anthemic techno, while "R U From London" is a neatly-packed, dreamy wash of
'80s synth flange and guitar, propelled by vocal shouts and bass stabs.
Leyland Kirby - Memories Live Longer Than Dreams 2xLP (History
Always Favours The Winners) [HAFTW007LP] $22.00
Previously released on CD as part of a 3CD package, this is the third
of
the three 2LP editions of When We Parted My Heart Wanted To Die series. The
final volume in this limited edition brings proceedings to a harrowing,
moving close. A sense of nostalgia, introspection and loss seeps through
every pore of these seven long pieces, starting with "Memories Live Longer
Than Dreams," a blue-hued piano piece that conjures an old vinyl pressing,
spinning ever-so-slightly off-center for an added sense of wooziness and
alienation. "A Longing To Be Absorbed..." comes next and employs a
radically-altered palette. Layered drones and distorted crescendos somehow
sound like Yellow Swans and Vangelis battling it out for supremacy over 13
minutes of immense, visceral music. "Don't Sleep I'm Not What I Seem, I'm A
Very Quiet Storm" is a 14-minute piano treatment that's at once deeply
beautiful and somehow strangely disturbing -- evoking long-submerged
memories. A fitting end to this substantial, important body of work.
Featuring artwork by Ivan Seal, and beautifully mastered at Berlin's
Dubplates & Mastering.
Lovelock - Pino Grigio 12 inch (Mindless Boogie)
[MINDLESS021EP] $12.00
"Lovelock aka Steve Moore ( NY ) from Zombi fame gets behind the knobs
for
the latest Mindless Boogie platter. His love for '80s AOR -- FM rock tracks
is quite obvious -- big synths, dubby drums, the lot! Another gemm for the
boogie repertoire!"
Lump - Back Alley Shuffle 12 inch (Blues! Records) [BLUES002EP]
$11.50
"Limited edition of 250 copies in clear vinyl. Once again, Lump sticks
to
his guns and 'brings you strangely funky tunes to make this world a better
place.' It's too late. The world has gone sombre and our man walks the
desolate streets. The femme fatale is there, right under the street lights.
The gansgster are all around. Bobby has been shot and all the junkies are
surrounding the dealer in the back alley. This is no house as you know it.
This is hardcore funk. It's noir, it's dirty, it's dangerous and risqué.
Run. The cops are coming."
Lump - Lord Only Knows 12 inch (Brut! Records) [BRUT011EP]
$11.50
"Limited edition of 250 copies in clear vinyl. Just as it says on the
tin,
'Lump - the man from hideously cold Finland brings you strangely funky
tunes to make this world a better place.' And by a 'better place,' he means
a warmer place, a place devoid of icy merely functional tracks to be played
for 2 weeks and dumped. Lump's better world is a place where house, funk
and a dash of disco blend together to make a long-lasting refreshing
cocktail you never have enough of. That's exactly what 'Lord Only Knows'
and 'Beware Of The Dog' are, antidotes to the soulless boum-boum. House
music that grows on you. Sticky, hot and sweaty. Warning: square DJ persona
might melt under the funky rhythms! Supported by Kris Wadsworth, Ekkohaus,
Moodymanc, Big Bully, Brendon Moeller, Patrick Zigon, Deep Child, St.
Plomb, Pheek, Tim Toh, Franklin De Costa, Little Fritter, Mr. Statik, etc."
Maetrik - Melted Mind 12 inch (Mothership) [MSHIP027EP]
$11.50
Maetrik's Melted Mind EP features some perfect examples of his amazing
talents. "Show Me" starts off with a super-funky techno groove (two things
that don't usually go together) that leads to a drop that sounds like an
angry wasp flying full-speed throughout your brain. "Simpleman" is a great
example of Maetrik's versatility. Instead of a hardcore techno bit, you'll
hear a very groovy, almost reserved jazz-techno fusion joint that still
retains some heavy beats to keep it real.
Marcel Knopf (feat. Camara) - Crazy About Skinny Bitches 12
inch (Mo's Ferry) [MFP047EP] $11.50
Marcel Knopf is Crazy About Skinny Bitches. He satisfies his longing
for
real house with "Crazy About" -- R&B singer Camara's soulful voice leaves
quite an impression on this powerful beat. On "Skinny Bitches," Knopf
processes insane nights out, when you just want to drink a beer in your
favorite pub, but then you meet a couple of friends and they take you to
the worst disco in town. This high-energy track is uncompromising and MUST
be played during peak-time and not during warm-up sets or after-hours.
Marcus Nikolai - Kiss Your Mind 12 inch (Perlon) [PERL077EP]
$13.25
Finally, some news from Perlon co-founder Markus Nikolai. After some
excursions with his band project Morane, he's back with a solo 12"
featuring "Bushes" vocalist Clair Dietrich on the A-side.
Martin Landsky - We Are Streaking 12 inch (Poker Flat)
[PFR108EP] $11.50
Martin Landsky presents "We Are Streaking," a tasty 2-tracker rich in
classic Landsky synth-work, deep, moody melodies, and forward-pushing
energies. "We Are Streaking" sends a warm, pulsing sonic charge right to
the core. Rushing, phasing and dramatic, an insistent synth revolves at the
heart of this timeless slice of driving electronic house. The sharp
post-electro swagger of "Personal Decay" takes inspiration from those early
days of rave, combining modern, finely-tuned electronics with raw, dubbed
and funked passages of killer proportions.
Martyn/dOP - Tucan 12 inch (Watergate Records) [WG001EP]
$11.50
This 12" is a limited white vinyl release containing two exclusive
tracks
taken from Sebo K's Watergate mix, which includes exclusive edits and
hard-to-find classic material. First, it's Sebo K's very own edit of
Martyn's "Elden St.," giving his very own twist by transforming the track
into a Chicago house affair of pure quality. On the flip, dOP deliver a
house monster entitled "Cold World," which is exclusive to the compilation.
Massimiliano Pagliara - Sensation 9 12 inch (Rush Hour)
[RH028EP] $12.25
Massimiliano is an Italian producer now located in Berlin making his
Rush
Hour debut. Known for his Balihu release from 2008, "Sensation 9" is sweet,
melodic Italian disco/house. This 12" also includes a Marco & Orpheo remix
and dub version.
Mi Ami - Cut Men 12 inch (Thrill Jockey) [THR01238EP]
$12.25
"Mi Ami's Thrill Jockey debut is a brand new 12" called Cut Men and
features two new tracks. Recorded at Lucky Cat Studios (where they also did
Watersports) with Trans Am's Phil Manley, both songs were tracked in a
single day and mixed the next. The A-side was recorded live with only vocal
overdubs. The recording captures the energy and tension of a live
performance with stunning clarity. The B-side is a dub. It's a heavy, deep,
and oblique re-visioning of the A-side that began as a version but
transformed into a song of unique character and energy. Recorded as an
extended take, 'Out at Night' was later manipulated with slight edits and
further dub mixing. The lyrics to both focus on an alienation with American
male/'dude' culture and the barely-repressed sexual violence that informs
so much of daily life. 'Cut' is slang for muscular and in a pun-like
fashion also refers to a desire to see these very same people 'cut' down a
notch or two, while 'Out At Night' reflects the darker hues of the song and
the feeling of dread that Daniel gets when walking home from work at night
and watching the bars let out. While the lyrics serve as a commentary on
the misdirection of male energy, this intensity is used to provide the song
with it's own life and energy and is meant to be delivered in a joyful,
exuberant and even fun way."
Mic Newman - Sizzled Sally 12 inch (Murmur) [MUR013EP]
$11.50
"Sizzled Sally has caused many a storm on dancefloors this summer, an
unforgettable treat of a record from the refreshing palette of Mic Newman.
Title track 'Sizzled Sally' is the most requested and hyped murmur release
to date, the sound of the past meeting the present in an original and
winning recipe. Slices of piano and rapturous vocal screams unite in a
sharp evocative atmosphere, forming the heart of the track that stays with
you long after the lights come up. B side '5 O'Clock' is another late night
burner, stocked with an arsenal of funk and fired out with great velocity.
Mic Newman spent his formative years on an olive grove in Australia but has
turned his attention to studio spaces over the past 5 years, honing the
skills that have begun to be seized upon by a string of notable artists,
completing remixes for Mason, Chicken Lips, Dirty South, and Booka Shade
and solo releases for Get Physical, 8Bit, Dirt Crew and now for our own
murmur family. Many believe Mic Newman's swift rise to prominence to be
more remarkable than the day it rained small fish in Denmark, but despite
his simple past, Mic's musical voice is layered with innovation and quirk,
culminating in a radical sound, one that stands out from the clichéd noise.
Phrases like 'technical wizard' and 'emphatic attention to detail' resonate
in conversations among his contemporaries, referencing Mic's production
proficiency and favourable reputation among his peers. Innovative,
unquestionably talented and attitudinally sound -- Mic Newman is one
wholesome package soon to be distributed worldwide on murmur."
Mika Vainio - Vandal 12 inch (Raster-noton) [R-N114EP]
$13.25
Part of Raster Noton's Unun series, Mika Vainio's Vandal EP shows his
preference for working in analog. He develops a dynamic sound that harkens
Pan Sonic, working from a rather abstract structure towards arrangements
which more and more suit a club setting. Straight beats, noise and the lack
of clicks & cuts are the ingredients for his contemporary version of
electronic club music. Mika's sound stands for being physical, raw and
profound beyond all clichés.
Mod.civil - Einfachheit Gewinnt 12 inch (Ornaments) [ORN004EP]
$13.50
2008 release. Clear, black marbled vinyl. "Next strong limited vinyl of
this mysterious label; includes a remix of Marko Fürstenberg with famous
legendary vocals by K.K. as Jesus!!!"
Moody Boyz - Freedom 12 inch (Studio Rockers) [STUDR004EP]
$9.00
"Fresh from curating the sell-out Dubstep Chronicles 2 night and the
Summer
of Dub at the Big Chill Festival, Tony Thorpe aka The Moody Boyz returns to
the fore with this hotly anticipated solo single, Freedom on his fledging
Studio Rockers label. Having recently laid down remixes for acts including
Roots Manuva, Melanie Fiona and Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Thorpe has returned to
the studio to immerse himself in his solo productions. 'Freedom' features
the vocals of Pete Simpson, and is drenched in soulful dubstep vibes,
cinematic soundscapes and sonic experimentalism."
MRK 1 - X-Tatic 12 inch (Contagious) [CON025EP] $10.25
"Brand new artillery from the Contagious camp from label-head Mrk 1.
Most
prolific producer in dubstep? Well he sure knows how to create beats for
the dancefloor, time after time we've sat here nodding our heads to his
unique brand of wobble-step, this one is certainly no exception, X-Tactic
tears out of the speakers like a rabid beast wielding a nail spiked bat!
and 'Moving Toad' - You what?!!?"
Mungo's Hi-Fi feat. Earl 16 - International Roots (LD Remix) 12
inch (Dub Police) [DP032EP] $11.00
"Returning to Dub Police after the massive success of 'Peace In Our
Culture' (featured on part six of the 'License To Thrill Series') for his
first single on the label, is South East London's LD. Kicking things off is
the sweet vibes of 'International Roots', with it's smooth vocals, luscious
pad stabs and LD's signature rolling and driving beats, any fan of the
usual heaviness from this man will most defiantly not be disappointed.
Wicked vibes! On the flip LD goes all tribal on us, with the highly sought
after 'King Of Kong', which has been gaining huge support from the likes of
Caspa, Mala, Chef, N-Type, Benga & TheOthers to name a few. LD sets the
scene with a jungle landscape, before the heavy tribal rhythms that lead
the way for a drop that will get even the most stubborn of ravers shaking
their ass! An absolutely outstanding release from man like LD, and Dub
Police yet again raising the bar in their quest of pushing good new music."
Namosh - Keep It For Later 2xLP (Crippled Dick Hot Wax)
[CDHW107LP] $17.25
Of Montreal - Aldhils Arboretum LP (Polyvinyl) [PRC078]
$12.75
REISSUED ON VINYL!!! Originally released in 2002, Aldhils Arboretum was
a
departure for OF MONTREAL. Rather than building songs around concepts, the
band chose to concentrate specifically on the development and writing of
each song. Such an effort resulted in one of the band's most focused and
polished works to date.
Paco Osuna - Lemon Juice 12 inch (Plus 8) [PLUS8106EP]
$10.75
Paco Osuna proves once again that he's in a league of his own when it
comes
to serving up futuristic nuggets of Southern-fried techno. "Party In
Chicago" alternates between black run sequences, huge build-ups and
intense, reverb-drenched breakdowns. "Looking For v2" is packed with
static, reverbs and sudden changes in atmosphere, "My Friend" features an
understated intro, more cut-up vocals, and a barrage of snare rolls and
"What's Up!!!" builds up a cracking hi-hat line into drawn-out howls.
Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras - Burn Brighter Flame 12 inch
(Macro Recordings) [MACROM015EP] $11.50
"2nd single from the Patrick Cowley & Jorge Socarras album "Catholic".
Bleeding edge remixing by ONI AYHUN and noble editing by MORGAN GEIST added
for your pleasure. While still everybody keeps guessing who's behind the
mysterious and burning hot works of Oni Ayhun, Macro's got the man's first
ever remix! O.A. obscured Cowley's "Memory Fails Me" with his trademark
darkness and took it to the edge of engineering. And it's got all that
feeling, too! If you asked yourself what a forward-thinking Patrick Cowley
might have done today -- here's a serious offering. "Burn Brighter Flame"
is the Disco heart of the album. With all Disco crate digging of the
decade, "BBF" is the ultimate find. Since the original artists had intended
this one to be a single there's also a stunning instrumental! We just
remember how everybody got tears of joy when Finn Johannsen mixed the
different versions of this for the first time at Berlin's Picknick. Who
could have been asked for an edit of this gem other than Metro Area's
Morgan Geist? Creating a dialogue between the vocal and instrumental
versions, his edit offers even more variety for the DJ to mix in and out of
this great tune."
Pawel - Berkeley 12 inch (Dial) [DIAL048EP] $11.50
Dial co-founder Paul Kominek aka Turner aka Pawel presents a taste of
his
full-length, inspired by almost two decades of Detroit's Planet E-era and
Dial Records' 10 years of existence. Pawel's music can be regarded as the
essence of the label's work: deeply outstanding pearls for a dancefloor in
love with the dancers.
Peter Kruder - Hard To Find 12 inch (International Deejay
Gigolo) [GIGOLO259EP] $11.50
Peter Kruder presents two tracks from his arsenal of techno and house
dancefloor bombs with Hard To Find. The title track is influenced by
Detroit techno circa the age of UR to North African hooks. The filter
sweep, which serves as the drop/break, is a master-class in restrained
modulation. "25 West 38th St." opens with the sound of ocean air, swiftly
diving into a bass-driven groove, lush strings and a piano-led top-line --
rhythmic and atmospheric.
Plastic Crimewave Sound - Shockwave Rider 7 inch (Horizontal
Action) [HZR041] $5.75
For years, this Chicago scuzz-punk psychedelic prog machine has been
turning heads as the Midwest's answer to Hawkwind, Can and other
mind-expanding primordial brain-fryers. At long last, and after years of
preparation, HoZac is proud to unleash the quintessential 7-inch single
from PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SOUND as they obliterate the blistering biker-psych
formula, blasting the shrapnel deep into the innerspace of your mind.
Presented here is their epic "Shockwave Rider," edited down from its
6-plus-minute format for maximum loudness and divinity. Featuring a lead
guitar line from VEE DEE's NICK D'VYNE that will turn your hair white and
stir up your endorphins before it even hits the first chorus, all while
displaying the gnarly heaviness that PCWS have made all their own.
Posh 111 - Nedenumit 12 inch (Barraca Music) [BRM006EP]
$11.50
"Old-school style floor destroyer!!! Posh 111 is an unknown mystery
hailing
from Romania. With 2 outstanding cuts packed with waves of optimism and
snickfest enticed skullduggery he has delivered a superble bewben of a
brutish pigeon chested blooter. Includes a super rare and unique remix by
Petre Inspirescu who fuses together both 'Nedenumit' and 'The Coco Song' in
a way only he can."
Proxy - Who Are You?/8000 12 inch (Turbo Recordings)
[TURBO071EP] $12.00
"New proxy shoe-bangers. Whether you like it or not, history is on our
side. We will bury you."
Pygmy Shrews - Egyptian LP (Wantage USA) [WAN056]
$12.75
PYGMY SHREWS are sort of like some wounded Sikorsky chopper on a doomed
final mission, chugging across debris-filled skies in search of a final way
out. This Brooklyn group has an aggressive, fatalistic task at their
capable hands: to add a musical vocabulary to feelings like desolation,
despair and distrust. Pygmy Shrew members come from bands like DRUNKDRIVER,
ZS, WIVES, CUTTER, THE FUGUE, QUEENING, NEON KING KONG, LITTLE WOMEN, etc.
They play the sort of desolate noise rock that Greg Ginn somehow fathered.
The band's debut LP, The Egyptian, is a raw example of the genre's most
well-executed.
Real Estate - Real Estate LP (Woodsist) [WOODSIST034LP]
$13.50

Redshape - The Dance Paradox 2xLP (Delsin) [DSR080LP]
$21.25
Robag Wruhme - Lampetee 12 inch (Movida Records) [MOVIDA001EP]
$11.50
"Movida is Spanish and is the English word for 'moving.' With this
first
release we have moved something - nobody else than Mr. Robag Wruhme
(Wighnomy Brothers) has produced this first one. This track is really
untypical for any production which Gabor ever did, but we liked that
'dubby' track so much that we really wanted to release it. Maybe the one or
other will think back to good old Maurizio tracks. 'Lampetee' is a very old
Greek 'song' with a pretty nice song-text which Gabor packed in that track
with so many emotions. We were also happy as we get the 'o.k.'. from nobody
else than Nick Curly to do a remix for us. It has take a long time, but
finally the remix is so lovely, deep and groovy that we think it was good
choice to wait so long. Last but not least there will be also a
digital-only bonus Remix from Matt Star. We say 'thank you' right here to
all our friends and fans outside and we're happy to bring you some more
good new 'moving' stuff in the future. Supported by: Ricardo Villalobos,
Onur Ä-zer, Shinedoe, Thomas Melchior, Brendon Moeller, Matt Star, Daniel
Mehlhart, Nick Curly, Meat, Frank Leicher."
Roger Gerressen - Hajastan 12 inch (Wolfskuil Limited)
[WLTD007EP] $12.00
On transparent orange vinyl. "For those who didn't know the origin of
the
labelname: the Wolfskuil is a neighborhood in labelowner Darko Esser's
hometown Nijmegen. The city where the infamous club Doornroosje is located.
And Roosje, as the locals call it, is the electronic music temple and basis
& inspiration for many local talents. One of those 'Nimma' talents is Roger
Gerressen, DJing since 2001 and producing in his homestudio since 2006. The
sounds that are coming from his residency are so wonderful, that we
couldn't keep them from you any longer. The 3 featured tracks on this
release are heavily dub influenced, wich is not strange because Roger
considers Rhythm & Sound, Echospace and Baby Ford as highly important
influences when he is making music. The way he incorporates these
influences into his sound is highly original. Even though his producer
carreer is only a few years young, he has already found his own sound and
niche. Just listen to 'Hajastan' the eyecatcher of the package: the track
revolves around Arabian/ Indian samples, used in a very different way then
anyone else would do. The sounds keep evolving throughout the track,
constantly changing and adapting. It's one of those tracks which will stand
out in a set. On the flip it's disco and jazz funk galore with 'No School
Like The Old School', a peaktime house floorfiller, wich undoubtedly will
get lots of plays. Simple, catchy and with a hook that won't leave your
head for days."
Rune Lindbaek Presents Kanakas - Odessa 12 inch (Luna Flicks)
[LUNA008EP] $11.50
This installment of the Luna Flicks series features a special treat
from
Norwegian legend Rune Lindbæk. Straight from the sleazy lower west side of
Oslo, he has teamed up with the mysterious Kanakas outfit to present these
little gems of rubbered-down diamonds from the gutter. Inspired by Rune's
DJ travels to the east and the south of Europe, the Odessa EP is the
perfect antidote to reality TV, soap commercials, funky house, and generic
minimal from suntanned blokes with plug-ins.
Sante & Re.you - B 12 inch (Souvenir Music) [SOUVENIR022EP]
$11.50
Philipp Maier aka Santé is part of a new school of producers from
Berlin,
all dedicated to foot-stomping, straight four-to-the-floors. "B" was
co-produced with his brother Marius aka Re.You, for a slew of bouncy beats
and hypnotic loops. With Rampa, Santé pumps new energy into the house with
the refreshing "Aura," which possesses a mystic and uplifting atmosphere.
David Mayer pitches up the bpm, robotizes it with electro effects, and
turns the sample vocals into catchy vocoders. Sweaty crowds guaranteed.
Sascha Braemer - Sascha Braemer 12 inch (Dirtybird)
[DBIRD031EP] $11.50
"Sascha Braemer has got that tech-funk, caveman quality that is so
elusive
and hard for me to find as an A&R person. And on this record, you will hear
why I went and found him. This is an absolute beast! Both tracks are
tried-and-tested club-killers. Truthfully, I cannot think of a better
dancefloor record on Dirtybird this year." --Claude VonStroke
Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook 12 inch (Kompakt) [KOMPOP015EP]
$11.50
"Gobbledigook" is the spectacular opener on Sigur Rijs' album Meİ Suİ
Ä~M
Eyrum Viİ Spilum Endalaust -- and is one of the most hymn-like songs
they've written thus far. Fellow Icelanders Stephen Stephenson aka
President Bongo (Gus Gus) and Jack Schidt transform the complex,
polyrhythmic original into an exceptionally ethereal club track. The
percussive groove takes over the tribalistic atmosphere of the original,
catapulting it into the future. Thomas Fehlmann's remix is sensational, and
somehow turns this song into a schaffel.
Size - Yeah (Gregor Tresher Remix) 12 inch (100% Pure)
[PURE055EP] $11.50
The next strike on 100% Pure Records is Dutch techno star Size, who has
been spinning the wheels since 1998. "Yeah" is a clean dancefloor techno
tune that brings it to you from the beginning 'til the end of the track.
Gregor Tresher's remix will sweep dancers off their feet like no one's
business. Early support by Dubfire, Paco Osuna, Richie Hawtin, 2000 And
One, and Bart Skils.
Slither - Alien Column LP (Nashazphone) [NP008LP]
$25.75
"Alien Column is the first full length LP by the
thick-smoke-filled-Michigan-basement duo of Chris Pottinger (Odd Clouds,
Cotton Museum and the Tasty Soil label) and Heath Moerland (Sick Llama,
Cygnus, Drug Abuse and the Fag Tapes label). Often described as a post-Wolf
Eyes combo, SLITHER offer a mutant take on free jazz through their multiple
electronics manipulations and dual horn tandem (alto saxophone and
clarinet). An additional proof to why Michigan is currently the BEST place
to be on earth! Edition of 240 copies."
ST-Plomb - Escape Run 12 inch (Brut! Records) [BRUT012EP]
$11.50
"Limited edition of 250 copies in clear vinyl. After having it large
with
Sweetzerland's Mental Groove, St. Plomb has remained apparently calm for
the past few years. But don't be mislead, St. Plomb better known to friends
and family as 'daddy wizard' hasn't spent these years sunbathing and
splashing in tanning lotion. Instead he's been hiding in the studio,
working on his tricks, refining his magic, distilling the purest and the
rawest forms of house to achieve the alchemy of the perfect track The
concoction has worked and Brut! is proud to present the results: 'Escape
Run' and 'Saturnic Night Access.' Serve piping hot."
Stagga - Face Gets Splat 12 inch (Rag & Bone) [TOTTER022EP]
$10.25
"We don't really do remixes, but with the original 'Sick As Sin'
smacking
it, this rework smacks it even more. Carefully staying true to the original
and not interfering with its initial blast, this version tweaks it just
enough to bring you back to that point when this tune first dropped and you
couldn't play it enough. On the flip-side you have 2 utterly brand new
bangers that each provide prime time ammunition in their own right. 'Face
Gets Splat' embodies trademark Stagga production with the lyrical talents
of Y Dot Tzer J Bone getting into a metaphorical battle with other MCs.
While 'Tha Criss Gurge Supply' pitches down a little and gives itself a
haunting swagger all of it's own. Stagga has an extensive background
producing hip-hop through his involvement with Optimas Prime and off kilter
act Dead Residents. His dubstep incarnations have appeared on Rossi B &
Lucas label Rudeez, Berlin outlet Robox ? Neotech and of course Rag & Bone.
Strong support from Starkey, Raffertie, Rob Da Bank, RSD, Pirate Sound
System, Kanji Kinetic, Chrome Kids, etc."
Start! - The Kingdoms Of Elgaland-Vargaland National Anthem #6
7 inch (Ash International) [ASH78EP] $7.25
This 7" is the fourth in a series of vinyl acoustic versions for the
National Anthems of Elgaland-Vargaland. These recordings were regally made
during the unofficial inauguration of the KREV Ministry of Bankrupt
Shopping Malls in Porto, Portugal, on October 10, 2008, in the presence of
the KREV Ambassadors Michael Harding and Heitor Alvelos. Genuflections to
the Future Places digital media festival, University of Porto Masters in
Image Design, and the University of Texas at Austin and Transmedia
Brussels.
Steve Bug - Look Who's Stalking/Zero Balance 12 inch (Cocoon)
[COR067EP] $12.25
Steve Bug follows up his Collaboratory mix with this superb 12" for
Cocoon.
While "Look Who's Stalking" uses the raw energy of Chicago/Detroit house
with driving hand claps, percussions and nasty vocals, "Zero Balance" is an
experiment in how far you can reduce tech-house to the essence of a bass
line. Short vocal loops complete a sensibility that makes Bug's tracks such
high quality music.
Stimming - Buxton Pipes 12 inch (Audiomatique) [AM037EP]
$11.50
Stimming presents the wonderful Buxton Pipes EP for Audiomatique. The
lead
track is a beautifully-reduced, gentle roller that combines textural,
shifting, filtered percussion, phasing, effected melodies and a rich
sub-room sound design. Dainty, pretty, and yet totally punchy at the right
volumes, it's a genuine slice of ultra-modern micro-post-minimal-house.
"Kakusei" arrives with an array of softened percussion and
carefully-extended, spooky breakdowns. "Seepferdchen" throws a spanner into
otherwise smooth grooves with delicately-jacked drum patterns and
controlled sub-bass-line throwdowns. Simply superb work.
Strip Steve - Delta Disco 12 inch (Boysnoize Records)
[BNR039EP] $11.50
Strip Steve presents his vision of disco-rockin' house-music in 2010.
Imagine Ian Pooley being young again and ready for the world, when
everything is possible. Five new banging and diverse tracks start with the
obvious smasher "Breakin'" and "Children," ready to destroy. On the flip,
you get "Dancin'" that samples a soulful vocal hook, plus a burning,
rollin' bass line. "AM/FM" is a super-funky acid universe.
Subeena feat. Jamie Woon & Om'mas Keith - Solidify 12 inch
(Planet Mu) [ZIQ252] $7.00
SUBEENA (aka SABINA PLAMENOVA) is a London-based dubstep producer and
DJ
with releases on her own Immigrant Recordings label, but with this single,
she branches out beyond the restrictive confines of the genre with gentle
ease and grace. "Solidify" is something of a supergroup collaboration. The
track is split three ways with OM'MAS KEITH from SA-RA CREATIVE PARTNERS on
keys, the sensational JAMIE WOON ON vocals, and Subeena providing drums,
bass, and subtle production. Woon's honeyed soul harmonies glide across
pools of spacy Rhodes keys and Subeena's tough, detailed insectoid beats
and bass. It's a beautiful track that recalls the stoned soul of D'Angelo
but with free-floating, state-of-the-art digital production and abstract
depth. The B-side is just Subeena on her own. The bittersweet, melodic
synths and crunchy drums of "Analyse" wouldn't be out of place on
Artificial Intelligence-era Warp releases were it not for the traces of
dubstep in the sparingly used delays and the sub-bassline that frame the
tune. No exports outside North America or Japan
Sun Ra - Medicine For A Nightmare - The Singles LP (Doxy)
[DOX821LP] $20.25
"Sun Ra: alien from Saturn or Herman Blount from Alabama? Either way,
Sun
Ra is one of the most interesting and prolific musicians in the history of
jazz. Decades before his time, Sun Ra and his band, calling themselves the
'arkestra,' began forming their own alternative reality, a new plane of
cultural existence in which blacks were all powerful beings, gods from
another planet sending their intergalactic message through jazz music. This
idea went on to influence everyone from Funkadelic to the Outcast, in fact
when asked about Sun Ra, George Clinton once said, 'Yeah, Sun Ra is out to
lunch, same place I eat at.' Do not miss this compilation of Sun Ra's rare
early 7"s -- for the first time ever in one collection on vinyl!"
Super Flu - Puma Okay 12 inch (Herzblut) [HERZ016EP]
$12.25
Germany's Super Flu duo are back on Herzblut Recordings after a
successful
start on their own label, Monaberry. These are big, building tracks tightly
constructed for the dancefloor with plenty of pop and swish.
Teepee - Morals LP (Senzei) [SEN003] $13.50
TEEPEE's sound is a mix of synth-pop, punk, hypnotic drones, moody
acoustic
guitar and outsider sounds. Sounds that are sure to get inside your inner
self and make you want to spin it over & over. This is quality material.
500 copies on with inserts and download card. Teepee is also a member of
Miami groups ELECTRIC BUNNIES and MELTED SUNGLASSES.
Thomas Schumacher - Slow 12 inch (Get Physical Music)
[GPM119EP] $12.25
Thomas Schumacher has been on fire for the past 20 years, and so it
continues with "Slow," a slowly-building, mild Balearic groove with a
hypnotic vibe. Applying effects to the female vocal snippets while
shuffling them forward and back against the groove indicates his ability to
use simple effects towards intricate results. "NYC" uses percussive
elements, a "tick, tick" clock sample, and the sound of speeding cabs to
sonically evoke a bustling cityscape. These are one-two punches of DJ
artillery.
Toni Rios - Past & Present LP (Soap) [SOAP001LP] $19.00
An essential
document of one of Germany's most beloved and longstanding dance
producers."

Various Artists - Mikado 12 inch (Highgrade) [HIGH068EP]
$11.50
Berlin label Highgrade and its French counterpart Freak n'Chic utilize
the
skills of their existing artist rosters while continuing to discover new
talents, and together, pay tribute to almost all the artists from both
labels with this fresh musical collaboration. With the release of this
Mikado compilation, Highgrade sends trusted regular artist Jens Bond
alongside newcomer Simon Beeston. On the French side, David K sits next to
Terry, making them a match fit and battle-ready for the Mikado brigade!
Various Artists - Family And Friends Part One 12 inch (Bouq)
[BOUQ004EP] $11.50
"Everyone ready for the ride? bouq.records comes back just before the
Ibiza
season is over and what an astonishing good-bye from the white island time
of the year. bouq. invited some friends to contribute to the first Family
And Friends EP on bouq.records and the results were more than just
pleasing. The Hamburg-based Samuel Kindermann, better known as Einmusik
offered the tune 'Jabloko' which has already been rocking the Ibizan floors
for the last months and takes us on a lovley ride through the
sound-universe. Grooving beat, feelfull guitar loop and distant, searching
vocals, make this tune an emotional and unifying experience for the floors.
'Kumbha' by the Cadenza artists Mendo & Danny Serrano is a driving song
with so much energy, it is hard to contain your own. You have to release
what this song gives you on input! Hands in the air, hug your friends and
enjoy these superbly interacting sounds. Thanks friends for this music! The
family side includes none other than our very own Sebastian Lutz, who has
made fans such as Carl Craig, Dubfire, Laurent Garnier and Loco Dice with
his productions on labels such as Do Easy Records and BCB Tec. His debut on
the label he runs together with Amir, Butch and Chris Laut was only a
matter of time and the wait was worth its while. 'Kachina' gets out those
driving, dirty percussions and drums, a round and grooving bass and some
shouting kids to animate every last one in the club to join in the fun.
Brainwashing kids, a speech in the break and great sound design and a deep,
pushing beat underline the potential of 'Kachina' becoming one of the most
heard and played tunes of the late summer and autumn time. As suspected,
Butch couldn't keep himself from contributing and decided to remix
Einmusik's 'Jabloko' for this musical excursion. Like a trip to the
seaside, it has a soothing atmosphere, but never loses focus of its groove
or crisp percussions. This is where the bouq.family and friends trip ends
for now. We hope you've enjoyed the ride."
Various Artists - Munich Disco Tech Vol. 5 12 inch (Great Stuff
Records) [GSR091EP] $11.50
"The fifth edition of Great Stuff's EP series Munich Disco Tech again
features no artists from Munich or even Germany but still the full flavour
of that concept. With Juan Sanchez from Amsterdam, the canadians Sultan &
Ned Shepard (Harem Records/Global Underground), Tignino & Leo from Italy's
very south island Sicily (featuring Jim Kerr's son on the mic) remixed by
Kling Klong artist Oliver Klein. Plus Denis Horvat from Denmark. A very
heterogen mixture of styles and artists from all over the planet, which
rocks in different situations."
Various Artists - The Greatest Switch Sampler 1 12 inch (La
Musique Fait La Force) [LMFLF024EP] $12.75
"Vinyl sampler 1 of 2 of The Greatest Switch compilation CD with
classic
gems as Technotronic's 'Pump Up The Jam,' A Guy Called Gerald's 'Voodoo
Ray,' Thunderball's 'Bonzai Channel One' and Quadrophonia's
'Quadrophonia'."
Various Artists - The Greatest Switch Sampler 2 12 inch (La
Musique Fait La Force) [LMFLF025EP] $12.75
Vinyl sampler 2 of 2. A1 SNAP! - Rhythm Is A Dancer A2 Giorgio Moroder
-
The Chase B1 CJ Bolland - The Prophet B2 Secret Cinema - Timeless Altitude
Various Artists - At The Controls Sampler 12 inch (Studio
Rockers) [STUDREP001EP] $9.00
"First up on this EP sampler for the At The Controls CD is 'Playtime's
Over' by Decyfer. Decyfer is Jordan Partridge, a fledgling dubstep producer
from Chester. This will be his first release on a label but judging by the
quality and depth of his sound it definitely won't be his last. 'Playtime's
Over' kicks off with a melody that's reminiscent of the haunting strains of
a music box in a b-movie horror flick. The sample then comes along and the
track drops with a dark rolling bassline and some nasty synth stabs. As the
track gains momentum the synths strain even harder and create a deliciously
twisted dubstep soundscape. Sure to be hit in the clubs, this a serious
track from a producer who is supposedly still honing his craft- watch out
dubstep! On the flip-side is a massive track from an artist called Surje
who co-produced the track 'Nocturne' with Hackman. At just 20 years old,
Surje has a massive future ahead of him. Having debuted on Hackman's 12",
he now shows what he's all about with his debut solo release on Studio
Rockers. And what a tune to debut with! 'Juxta' is an absolute monster of a
record and has being doing some serious damage on dub-plate for a few
months now. It opens with a massive synth line that builds to a devastating
crescendo- invasion, ha ha ha!! The pressure doesn't stop there as the
track is littered with clever hooks and nasty little stabs that keep the
ear entertained long after the first listen. If you're into dubstep then
this is one 12" you will not regret buying."
Various Artists - Deep Fried 12 inch (Uk Promotions) [UKP008EP]
$11.50
"It seems that UK Promotions is the label where you may find Jerome
Sydenham's most fearless interpretations of house. Deep Fried is no
exception. The killer bass line setting the tone which only leads to an
incredible second bass line that delivers such a punch! By the time you get
to the awe inspiring break you are ready to do it all over and again and
again! 'Powerless': In the tradition of Ricky L he gives us yet another
mysterious classic."
Wasteland Jazz Unit - Space Denial LP (Nashazphone) [NP005LP]
$25.75
"Wasteland Jazz Unit is Jon Lorenz and John Rich on saxophone and
clarinet.
The first full length of this apocalyptic Cincinnati duo is simply akin to
the sonic equivalent of pouring molten silver (at 700 C) inside an ear.
Space Denial is a powerful destruction trip pushing all the limits of reed
electronic manipulations to areas and heights only explored by the mighty
Borbetomagus. Edition of 190 copies."
Wedge & Shadz - Running Away 12 inch (If Symptoms Persist)
[ISP001EP] $12.25
"Amazing packaging and music from Bristol based DJ & producer Wedge.
Coming
with a fresh take on the dubstep sound with the debut release on his new
label If Symptoms Persist... Having hosted his successful radio show on Sub
M for four years, this first release represents the fruitful hookup that
have come from the show. With the best of musical and vocal talent passing
through, the show has become a watchword for keeping up on the developments
in the Bristol sound. Shadz is one of the many talented vocalists to have
guested on the show, and before long Wedge invited him into the studio to
collaborate. The result is a perfect combination of bass weight beats and
soulful songwriting. Shadz uses his experience singing with many different
projects (Joker - 'Keep your eye on the ball,' Gemmy 'The Croft' Seezy
-'Whatever the weather,' TC - 'Untitled,' Distorted Minds - 'Otherside') to
great effect and comes up with an infectious lyric with a yearning,
searching theme that suits Wedges deep bass pressure perfectly. 'Running
Away' join the long line of great vocal tun to come out of Bristol, from
Smith & Mighty, Tricky, & Portishead to Reprazent & Ben Westbeech. 'Running
Away - Guido Remix': On the flip, rising talent Guido (one of the Purple
Three along with Joker and Gemmy) turns in a remix that sums up the
excitement surrounding these producers. R&B, grime, & dubstep are thrown
into the mix. A rinsing b line mixes with Guido's trademark orchestration &
musicality. Two prime examples of why people are looking to Bristol for a
fresh take on the Dubstep / GrimeGoodnessKnowsWhat sound with DJs as
diverse as Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio 1), Mr Jm (1Xtra), The Foreign Beggars
(Dented Record ), Footloose (1Xtra), Starkey (Planet Mu), and N-Type (Rinse
FM) supporting this release, things are looking great for this new label."
White Shit - White Shi'ite 10 inch (Wantage USA) [WAN055]
$11.00
From the uptight minds that brought BIG BUSINESS, MELVINS, KARP, THE
WRANGLER BRUTES, MONORCHID, MEGAFUCKERS and SKULL CONTROL to the world:
WHITE SHIT emerges. All throw-back throw-up hardcore treble-blast, these
two scorching originals and a Gism cover are here to stay. So don't touch
'em.
Wizzard Sleeve - Make The World Go Away LP (Horizontal Action)
[HZR044] $12.75
Just as the harrowing chill of summer's slow death drifts across the
land,
the skin-crawling death-punk masterpiece debut LP from Alabama's
confederate glue-wave goth 'tards, WIZZARD SLEEVE hits the shelves and
drags all the sinister vibrations from the ugly side of psychedelia right
up front where it belongs. As their influences have cited, and the
self-described trinity of Chrome, Crime and Creedence settles into place in
your chemically-damaged skull, and the unexpectedly danceable hits from
their string of vile, self-depreciating 7-inch singles are reborn with a
devastatingly murky effect that will drag you down into a hole faster than
any over-the-counter anti-anxiety cocktail you've ever ingested. Like Peter
Murphy sucking on a tailpipe, Wizzard Sleeve are the end of the line for
your happy good times and the start of a new atrocious standard in
head-expanding, zooed-out and shut-in true punk weirdness that won't be
getting many brownie points with mom, dad, church leaders, or parole
officers anytime soon.
Youandme - Rhythm & Drums 12 inch (Polymorph) [PPH004EP]
$11.50
"The fourth release of Polymorph are two pumpin tech-house tracks
produced
by youANDme (Ornaments, Rotary Cocktail, Platzhirsch, Dekadent, Snork) with
amazing dark vocals and a lot of minimal flavored sound design. Special
colored vinyl!!!"
Young Prisms - Young Prisms LP (Mexican Summer) [LPYOUNGPRIS]
$18.50
We are proud to be able to release the debut EP from this San Francisco
five piece collective. Creating astonishing chamber-esque haunting pop
music the band has already garnished a huge amount of blog buzz. Don't miss
out on this release as it is assured to become a sought after collectors
item.
Zelienople - Give It Up LP+CD (Type) [TYPE054LP] $19.00
. Includes a bonus CD featuring a full album's worth of soundtrack
material
entitled Gone. Chicago-based trio Zelienople present their second album for
the Type label. Zelienople have been around for quite a while now, and in
that time have become staples in the underground music architecture.
Percussionist Mike Weis has appeared on recent recordings with alt-folk
legend Scott Tuma, and Weis, Tuma and guitarist/vocalist Matt Christensen
form the band Good Stuff House. Despite all this activity, their passion
still lies in Zelienople. Multi-instrumentalist Brian Harding completes the
trio, which has forged its most essential work to date with Give It Up, a
record which succeeds as a perfect summation of their progress. With
previous albums, the band have garnered no shortage of comparisons to Talk
Talk, Slowdive and Bark Psychosis, and while these comparisons still stand,
here Zelienople have pushed the influences into the background to reveal a
daring and fresh sound.

Hank Williams - The Dixie Cannonball LP Box (Doxy) [DOY001LP]
$75.50
"This special limited edition box set contains 4 albums originally
released
in the years immediately following Hank Williams' tragically premature
death in 1953. These albums, which include his most famous singles from the

Hank Williams - I Saw The Light LP (Doxy) [DOY618LP]
$20.25
On 180 gram vinyl. "Once in a great while a truly superlative musical
talent comes along, it only happens a handful of times per century, and one
of those times 'it' was Hank Williams. Despite his swift and total rise to
super stardom by the age 25, by 29 he was dead in the back of his own
Cadillac...but it is what happened in the meantime that made all the
difference. While America, returning victorious from the War in 1945,
attempted to create an image of a invincibility, wealth and power in the
face of its citizens and the world, there was a boy with a guitar from a
place called 'Wrong Side of the Tracks', Alabama, who had another story to
tell, a story that, amid all the propaganda and ticker tape parades,
Americans could relate to and, judging from the record sales, obviously
wanted to hear, and from 1946 to 1951 Hank Williams recorded enough hits to
last country music stations for the following fifty. He dominated the
country music charts throughout this period (with 11 number 1 songs and
many more in the top ten), and songs like 'Cold Cold Heart', 'Hey Good
Lookin'', and 'Your Cheatin' Heart', have become standards in American
music. These five albums represent a complete chronological retrospective
(1946-1951) of the man who revolutionized not only country music, but pop
music as well." Tracks - Side A: 1. Calling You 2. Never Again (Will I

Harry Smith - Harry Smith's Anthology Of American Folk Music
Vol. 1 2xLP (Doxy) [DOY625LP] $27.75
On clear vinyl. Volume 1: Ballads. "The importance of Harry Smith's
work
can not be overstated. Not only did he single-handedly save much of
American folk music from extinction, but when he handed his record
collection over to Smithsonian Folkways in 1952, he opened the floodgates
for the American folk revival of the following decade. Not since John and
Alan Lomax had anyone paid so much attention to saving the American folk
song from extinction, but unlike the Lomaxes, Smith was not a government
worker armed with a tape recorder, he was just a guy from Portland, Oregon
armed with a love for music and an insatiably curious mind. So, when the
U.S. Government began melting down old records to be used as shellac during
WWII, Smith kicked into high gear, buying up as many old 78s from the '20s
and '30s as he could find. Much of the music found here then, comes from a
time before television, arm-in-arm with rock & roll, began beaming its
über-culture into every household in America erasing much of what had grown
up locally in each area. As can be heard so beautifully on these ballads,
prior to WWII America was in many ways no more than a patchwork of
territories, with local cultures and musical traditions reaching both far
into the immigrant past of each area's inhabitants, but also into the
future to create something wonderful and firmly rooted in the newness and
adventure of life on this new continent."
Harry Smith - Harry Smith's Anthology Of American Folk Music
Vol. 2 2xLP (Doxy) [DOY626LP] $27.75
On red vinyl. Volume 2: Social Music. "The 'social music' that grew up
in
this time period was both 'social' in the sense of 'social gathering' (barn
dances, religious gatherings, etc.), but also in the sense of 'social
issues' (labor rights, migration, money troubles, etc.). Their music was,
therefore, a reflection of their lives, serving both as respite from their
troubles (these were desperate times: the dust bowl, the depression,
tenement housing, sweat shops, etc., were all part of the these people's
everyday lives), but also as a vehicle for their discontent." Tracks - Side

Ngozi Family - 45,000 Volts LP (Nosmokerecords) [NOSMOKE006LP]
$27.00
"Stunning, rare as hell album from the rich Zambian 'Zamrock' scene
from
the '70s, have you ever heard of this record before? The Ngozi Family
(Ngozi means danger, and dangerous is their music indeed!) were also the
band backing Chrissy Tembo on his now well-known My Ancestors album. They
released this one in 1977, and you'll be amazed when you hear it if you're
somehow into Hendrix, Black Sabbath, heavy psychedelia or Afro psych-rock.
Most of the tracks on the LP follow that direction, and the rest enter the
Afrobeat sound?.but most of it is fuzzy, heavy psych-rock as you can
expect. This release has a surprising high quality sound and is limited to
600 copies only. One of the rarest rock albums of the whole world!!! Get it
while you can!!!"
No Neck Blues Band - Languid Red Marchetti LP (Planam)
[PLANAMZAUM] $25.25
"Recorded close to the group's inception in 1994, Languid Red Marchetti
is
the NNCK sound in its empirical form, rhythmically a-linear and
fundamentally abstract. While NNCK would go on to become a seven piece
performing group, recording and touring extensively, this recording
documents a smaller group of four original members engaged in the
hermetically sealed sonic exploration which best locates their aesthetic
origins. >From the group's statement on Languid Red Marchetti: 'A
proto-intuitive Latihan of feedback + pre-scaffold juxtaposition of layers
which would come to constitute edifice, and eventually dwelling. Where we
would soon occupy this sound, it here was a force in and of itself, its
directionless propulsion compounding into substance and landscape.' This
deluxe edition Planam LP comes with a NNCK generated essay on sound imaging
through improvisation and is packaged in a full color jacket depicting 'The
hypothetical dissolve/corruption + subsequent inevitable repetition of
Suprematism.' Edition limited to 340 copies, with full-color cover,
infra-Suprematist inner sleeve and ultra-liner notes insert by Keith
Connolly."
Pierre Henry - Le Microphone Bien Tempéré LP (Doxy) [DOZ402LP]
$20.25
"Electronic music pioneer, Pierre Henry, was a classically trained
French
pianist and percussionist, but gained notoriety as one of the driving
forces behind the French avante-garde movement 'musique concrète', which
attempted make music by using 'real' sounds, like trains on tracks, dogs
barking, footsteps, etc., in place of actual instruments and then
electronically manipulate them in ways that had never been seen before,
effectively redefining the very idea of music itself, and forcing listeners
to ask themselves the question, 'what is music?'. Many did, and the many
answers to this question when on to inspire scores of artists and
musicians, and the ripple effect is still being felt today. The idea that
any naturally occurring sound could be music was, to say the least, a new
concept at the time, and so it helped that the movement had the backing of
someone who, like Henry, was a classically trained, or 'serious'musician,
as movement founder Pierre Schaeffer would have defined him. This piece, Le
Microphone bien Tempéré, written by Henry in 1951, was the first attempt at
notated musique concrete."
Rick Wilhite - The Godson E.P. 12 inch (Rush Hour) [RHRW1-EP]
$12.25
Classic Detroit house alert! Rick Wilhite's Godson E.P. was originally
released on Moodymann's KDJ label in 1997 and was never repressed -- until
now. All tracks were remastered, and this release includes a bonus
unreleased Moodymann remix. Check that original Detroit house vibe... big
release!
Woody Guthrie - Dust Bowl Ballads LP (Doxy) [DOY623LP]
$20.25
"This is the first record that 'the Oklahoma cowboy' recorded in NYC
after
his arrival in 1940 for Alan Lomax as part of his work for the Library of
Congress. Originally released as three separate 78 rpm records, these are
Guthrie's tales about one of the most dire periods in rural America, the
Dust Bowl era (also known as the Dirty Thirties). Repressed by Smithsonian
Folkways in 1964 during the American folk revival years, this
quintessential work proves that Guthrie was a true minstrel of the other
face of America, the one that you can't find in history books: tales of
poverty, migration, storms, illness, hunger and harsh criticism of the
American government, incapable of committing to equality. Guthrie would
become very popular among city radicals and idealists, and thanks to
records like this, a true icon of social activism in the cradle of
capitalism."
