Endometrium Cuntplow - Burn Los Angeles, Burn! CD (Love Earth Music)
[LEM-36] $9.50
"it's experimental noise with heavy undercurrents of rhythms, distorted
vocals, and blasts of very very harsh noise"
Lorenzo Senni - Dunno CD (Presto) [P!?014] $16.75
Produced, edited, mixed by Lorenzo Senni and mastered by Marcus Schmickler,
"Dunno" is the very first official release by the 27years old italian
founder of Presto!?; his previous release "Early works" (2007) is a
collection of old re-edited tracks mainly influenced by early laptop heroes
Mego style. Now with "Dunno" we have a pure computer music record where
digital psychedelia meets brutal pulsar synthesis trains and sharp FM
streams. Built up with a double approach, "Dunno", is something between
vintage experimentalism of the computer music pioneers and the new digital
brutality of fat, acid glissandos and shepard tones in rave style. Using a
large palette of computer synthesized sounds and a sophisticated musical
awareness he creates ten tracks of beautiful artificial energies and
abstract pleasure ...everything packed in a deluxe metallic gold ink
printed dvd digipack. (Rolf Delley, QJ)
Scissor Lock - Broken English CD (Hello Square) [cube042]
$15.00
Marcus Whale returns with Broken English, a meditation on both
communication and disconnection using a choir of voices, pure and
distressed by electronic noise touching on sound worlds that are both
frosty and with a ray of light coming in. Think Jonsi or Sunny Day Real
Estate's Jeremy Enigk meeting Alva Noto or Frank Bretschneider head on.
Shoeb
Ahmad - Blossoms CD (Hello Square) [cube041] $15.00
A record that finds the common ground between the minimalist take on heavy
'doom' drone and North Indian classical music with raga forms as the main
focus. The hellosQuare label head looks back on the cultural heritage of
his family through his own unique musical voice by creating an eight piece
suite of electronic dawn tones, pulsing devotionals and toasty low end
using sub-continental instruments in electronic machine form and pedal
manipulation with layers of voice, percussion and Bengali field recordings.
Tomas
Phillips - Quartet for Instruments CD (Humming Conch) [Conch007] $16.00
Relying predominantly on acoustic instrumentation, Quartet for Instruments
compounds exploratory inspiration, precision, and elegance to create a work
that is both evocative and absolute. As a well-versed artist with many
distinct styles, Tomas Phillips has released works on such notable labels
as Trente Oiseaux, Line, NVO, and Koyuki, as well as having an extensive
background in contemporary literature and fine arts. Created with piano,
clarinet, minimal electronics, and cello during a two-month residency
program at Headlands Center for the Arts, outside of San Francisco,
California, Quartet for Instruments stands as a delicate, yet flourishing
example of directional music, set in a gentle, free-flowing pathway. The
piece is very much an extension of Intermission/Six Feuilles (Line, 2006),
which attempted to harness various influences into a focused,
composition-driven work. Where Quartet for Instruments differs is in the
depth of its arrangement and in the fact that it utilizes recordings
(mostly piano and clarinet) of improv. Thus, it operates at the midpoint
between composition and improvisation. Like Intermission/Six Feuilles, it
is also a fairly demanding piece in the sense that it relies on an
aesthetic of duration with minimal repetition. It does contain movements,
though these are not necessarily independent of one another; the piece is
intended to function as a singularity with decisive variations.
Totstellen - Tunnel Bruecke CD-R (Totes Format) [TOTFORM05/REDUKT12]
$19.97
(in black plastic case with fullcolour cover with inlaycards) an acoustic
study of architecture and the perspectives it implies.
Totstellen - Ksr CD-R (Totes Format) [TOTFORM07] $19.97

journey through the ruins of utopian architecture, recorded in 2002/3.

Totstellen - Mein licht beleuchtet nur abgruende CD-R (Totes Format)
[TOTFORM10] $19.97

Totstellen /Evapori - Drift 2xCD-R (Totes Format) [TOTFORM03]
$19.97
2 x minicd-r (in styrofoambox with inserts + inlaycard) both projects
concentrate of the spectrum of possible movements in a drifting structure.
Various Artists - Klub Moozak Compilation #1 CD (Moozak) [MZK#001]
$18.04
New from vienna, where things always remain busy it seems, comes a new
label moozak, which is an extension from the klub moozak, held each month
at fluc since september 2007. All of the twelve participants played there,
and no less then eleven are new, which once again proofs the electronic and
experimental is so much bigger than one can possibly imagine. The majority
of the artists featured here operate at the more noise based ends of music.
Not necessarily the over the top end of noise, but things here are pretty
loud and present. It moves between tape manipulations of rinus van alebeek
(the only name i recognized) and gedi, to the more digital surroundings of
fabia and griefer and the darker side of ambient of taos hum. Griefer also
brings rhythm to the outburst, just like laminadyz. At the beginning and
the end there are two more quieter counterpoints, and me thinks the best
tracks: strangelets microsound ambient glitch and the harmonic textured,
almost orchestral ambient of dirac. (frans de waard)

A Loss
For Words - Motown Classics CD (Paper + Plastick) [PP054] $12.25
BACK IN STOCK!!! Boston's pop-punk quintet A LOSS FOR WORDS make their
Paper + Plastick Records debut with a Motown covers album! A Loss For Words
recorded the 10-song cover album with Chris Curran at Webster Lake Studios
in Boston, and reworked classic R&B and Motown songs from the Jackson 5,
Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and more. The band has been performing select covers
on the road, including their acoustic take on The Temptations 'My Girl."
Armchair Traveller - Schöne Aussicht CD (Staubgold)
[STAUBDIG006CD] $16.00
Armchair Traveller was founded in Berlin in 1999 by Hella von Ploetz (glass
harp), Silvia Ocougne (prepared and traditional guitars), Werner Durand
(self-made wind instruments) and Sebastian Hilken (percussion and cello).
Their pieces, structured improvisations, are based on the music of
different continents, new music and minimal music, combining the special
tuning of the instruments with unusual sounds. Armchair Traveller plays it
inside out and twists notions of structured music, thus finally bringing
forth perhaps the real, the authentic, the ethnic music of our time. It is
real, because everything about it is unreal; it is authentic, since it has
just been totally invented. But it sounds archaic because it has been
created by musicians who have developed specific playing techniques, mostly
on their own, for handmade instruments built from everyday materials and
for conventional instruments they have specially prepared. It is ethnic
because chance providentially brought these musicians together at the same
time in a big city like Berlin -- metropolitan centers have become
homelands for quasi-ethnic groups. The individual pieces, imaginally
located on various meridians of the globe, sound like tribal music that
somehow is simultaneously experimental and (post-)industrial. Much of it
sounds electronic, even though everything is acoustic. Travellers in their
armchairs, at once alienated and fascinated, discover the foreignness in
themselves.
Artificial Memory Trace - Singtra CD (Waystyx) [11338] $16.50
Limited Edition to 300 copies. Created 2004 in Ireland from sounds of
trains recorded in Prague 1994 by Slavek Kwi. Sound Pictures painted with
colors of ambiances on canvas of time
Black
Mountain - Wilderness Heart CD (Jagjaguwar) [JAG175] $13.25
Wilderness Heart, the new album by BLACK MOUNTAIN, is packed with succinct
rock songs that pulse and pound with startling precision: it pummels you
and you ask for more. This is arguably the band's tightest, most
concentrated venture, but there's still plenty of raw rock energy at work.
Received a 7.4 rating from Pitchfork.
Celer
- Pockets Of Wheat CD (Soundscaping) [SOUND002] $15.75
RELEASE DATE: 10-19-2010
Soundscaping Records are very pleased to invite Celer for the label's
second release, Pockets of Wheat, a most special album to us.
Celer is the sound, visual, literary, and artistic endeavor of the husband and wife duo of Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long. The album was recorded during a three day journey driving across the US from California to Mississippi, while the musician couple spent their days at a small hotel in Northern Texas. During these three days, they realized the concept of 'Pockets of Wheat/Exteriors', created illustrations for their intent of the music and penned down a library of notes and structures to use. Hence, made many field recordings and string recordings with equipment brought along, while other piano pieces were recorded later on an old, unused family piano.
From their room at the back of the hotel, they saw endless stretches of wheat fields. With open windows, the couple noticed the constant sound of the wheat blowing from the wind, an almost gentle, yet persistent, crackling and fuzz, but also changed constantly. Creating music in their original form, drawing on feelings of togetherness, intimacy, and the expansiveness surrounding them, with the ever-changing landscape, the concept of 'Pockets of Wheat/Exteriors' was perceived. With associations to the ghost of Algernon Blackwood's The Willows, in entirety founded in nature, perceptions arose through constant interpretation of the sounds of nature; aggression, subtlety, intimacy, and distance.
Roughly five hours of recordings of cello, violin, piano, bells, crickets, and wind were then applied the idea of an 'always changing but always the same' idea to it. Splicing the recordings to about hundred 5-10 second tape loops, the loops were then played back from laptops and repeated in arbitrarily selected order by the two musicians without predetermined order. As such, the movements of the wheat in the fields by the winds were mimicked: always similar, but constantly changing.
The enclosed
recording contains 7 movements, though they are strung together not to
break the continuity. The several layers found within the recording are not
always discernible, but are still there, just more subtle, as is the case
with details in nature. Nature's presence is also an imperative, though not
the sole inspiration, but in the end the music of Celer in Pockets of Wheat
expresses purely their feelings, identity and the atmosphere surrounding
these moments, and in keeping with a continuous recording, captures the
essence of what is heard in our daily lives, essentially one singular
thing: sound.
Chihei
Hatakeyama - Variations CD (Soundscaping) [SOUND004] $15.75
RELEASE DATE: 10-19-2010
Limited to 500.
Artist info: Chihei Hatakeyama polychromes memory-evoking soundscapes with a variety of pre-recorded material of electric, acoustic instruments and field-recordings. Based in Tokyo, Japan, he has recorded and performed for years under his given name and also some collaborative projects such as electroacoustic duo Opitope with Tomoyoshi Date and song project Luis Nanook with singer/songwriter Tsutomu Satachi to name a few. His music also has been commissioned for visual works including 2009 feature film Tochka to produce a CD using sound solely from the film. Hatakeyama's releases to date are on Kranky, Room40, Under the Spire, Hibernate Records, Own Records, Home Normal, TaĢlem, Magic Book Records, Boid, Students of Decay, and Spekk. His upcoming solo CD album titled Variations is slated for late 2010 from Soundscaping Records in Norway.
Relase info: The theme of Variations focuses upon production
per se, intentionally excluding leading elements like visuals or
narratives, as has often been the case with many of Hatakeyama's earlier
works. For Variations, Chihei Hatakeyama embraced the opportunity to
contemplate his own compositional techniques -- to understand its meaning
and the processed sound, resulting from his usual production method of
composing in real-time DSP software environments, where heavily processing
of pre-recorded sound material transforms into different forms, often to an
extent with no traces of the originals. This is very evident in
Variations, with recorded sounds of electric guitar, vibraphone and piano
making up the constituent parts, with the addition of subtly processed
field recordings. In observation of sound particles in his own production,
Hatakeyama noted repetitive patterns in transformed states of his sounds,
reminiscent the palettes of water. Whether driven from a personal point of
experimentation or naturally formed, the traces of water are present in the
sound material of his latest work, despite not being the primary motif. To
replace the working title 'Water', Variations was born from the fact
that Hatakeyama began producing the album tracks in late 2008 at a time
when composing with MIDI was abandonded in favour of playing sound files on
Reaktor and Max/MSP. Thus dawned the idea of infinite possibilities sound
files have in nature and the concept of variations played on sound files.
Corin
Tucker Band, The - 1,000 Years CD (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS520CD] $16.25
"The new record began with the same surprise turn that started Corin
Tucker's career back in 1991, ended Sleater-Kinney's 11-year year run in
2006 and inspired the punk-feminist rocker to redefine herself as a
stay-at-home mom. It was early 2009, and Tucker was performing at a benefit
show in her hometown of Portland, OR airing out a couple of new songs.
Another benefit -- and another pair of unheard tunes -- followed a few
weeks later. The reaction from friends, fans and perfect strangers was
unanimous. 'Everyone was saying, 'Oh, it'd be cool if you made a record,'
Tucker recalls. 'So I thought, Yeah! I should!' Cue the wrenching rhythms
and hard-angle melodies, the slashing guitars and wildly passionate vocals.
Only now the hard edges come nestled in lush weaves of acoustic guitars,
keyboards, interlocking percussion, even cellos and violins, which places
1,000 Years deep into Tucker's creative headwaters -- another addition to
her 20-year catalogue of restless songs for restless spirits."
David
First - Privacy Issues (Droneworks 1996-2009) 3CD (XI) [XI134CD] $24.50
"Featuring Chris McIntyre and Peter Zummo, trombones; 'Blue' Gene Tyranny,
keyboards; and The Black Jackets Ensemble. 'This was something unexpected
and truly different: pulsing electronic textures that derived their rhythm
from the beating patterns of closely-tune pitches -- as if Alvin Lucier and
Philip Glass had gone on a blind date to CBGBs' David put the beat in
beating patterns.' - from the liner notes by composer Nic Collins (on his
initial exposure to First's music in 1987). Long overdue overview of
composer David First's drone works. This special and specially priced set
(3 CDs for the price of 2) is comprised of nine works composed between 1996
and 2009. '1996 was the beginning of a new period for me,' says First. 'I
had spent the prior five or six years creating a lot of music for other
players and larger ensembles -- culminating in 1995 with a couple of
mountings of my opera, The Manhattan Book of the Dead. I was a little
burned out on this and decided to return to a more personal, intimate
format -- one that ended up including an even more extensive exploration of
tunings, alternative compositional softwares and how my playing techniques
interacted with these things. I think I just wanted to go deeper and have
more control over the results. During the ensuing years I've had a few
pendulum swings -- forays into beat-oriented pop music with lyrics & vocals
and, of course, the re-animation of my rock band from the late 70s -- the
Notekillers. But I've continued, through all of the changes, to maintain my
grounding in my love of the drone & associated acoustical phenomena -- a
love affair that began in my teenage psychedelic years and will, no doubt,
be a most significant aspect of my music path for as long as I am at it.
The tracks here represent almost every major work created from 1996 to the
present and I'm grateful that they will be heard by a wider swath of people
than those who lived in NYC or happened to be at one of my touring
performances during these years.'"
Dawnbringer - Nucleus CD (Profound Lore) [PFL066] $12.00
Chicago's DAWNBRINGER could very well be the most under-appreciated
underground metal band in the US. Formed more than 15 years ago by prolific
multi-instrumentalist CHRIS BLACK (also of NACHTMYSTIUM and a number of
other projects), the group put out an EP and two killer and highly praised
full-lengths in the late '90s and early '00s. After a brief hiatus, Black
resurrected Dawnbringer in 2006 as a one-man act to release In Sickness and
in Dreams, a dense, 25-minute record packed with myriad classic metal
influences. The album caught the attention of Profound Lore Records, who
contacted Black about the status of his band, and just like that, a deal
with struck to release a follow-up. With a new concept for Dawnbringer,
Black gathered a few trusted collaborators and entered Semaphore Studios to
record his latest collection of songs with SANFORD PARKER (YOB, ZOROASTER,
UNEARTHLY TRANCE) at the controls. Nucleus is Dawnbringer's strongest work
to date, once again proving Black to be one of the most creative and
talented musicians in the underground. Incorporating elements from NWOBHM,
progressive, traditional and melodic death metal, it has all the
ingredients of a true classic heavy metal album. No exports to Canada or
the UK/Europe.
DJ
Nate - Da Trak Genious CD (Planet Mu) [ZIQ280] $13.25
DJ NATE grew up on Chicago's West Side. The 20-year-old artist started
making Footwurk tracks five years ago, more recently turning his hand to
hip hop and R&B. The Footwurk sound has its roots in Chicago house
music-the influence and speeds of pioneering label Dance Mania are
clear-but the linear, hypnotic 4x4 sound has been re-calibrated with
ultra-syncopated rhythms to test dancers. With only a few self-made CDRs
and YouTube videos, Nate attracted the attention of London's Planet Mu
Records. On Da Trak Genious, DJ Nate uses samples from pop and hip hop,
pitched, layered and triggered into unusual edits and often edging into
distortion. Simple phrases are repeated to hypnotizing effect, combined
with sparse 808 drum patterns, busy fills, relentless triplets and
off-kilter accents. Tracks like "Back Up Kid" and "You're Gonna Love Me"
work with modern R&B samples, while others like "Footwurk Homicide" and
"Fade Da Black Trak" echo the contemporary British grime sound. "Go Hard,"
"Let The Beat Build" and "Free" reach back to earlier soul music, crossing
half-time drums with slow, looped soul licks, while "A+ Mayhem" cranks the
pitch up to hysterical effect. A distant relative of breakdancing,
Footwurking (also known as Jukin') is a style of dancing native to Chicago.
No exports outside North America or Japan
Electric Sunset - Electric Sunset CD (K Records) [KLP221]
$13.25
Affected noises and guitar lines dance around the mist creating a current
of shiny sounds, all underlined by a pulse of Rock and Roll. ELECTRIC
SUNSET is a new, solo project from NIC ZWART. The debut album, Electric
Sunset is a distillation of ambient music into spiky pop songs with loud
synthetic percussion and muscular bass lines. The descriptions of loss,
love, fear and self discovery coincide with the stops and starts of moving
down the coast from the Pacific Northwest to San Francisco. Old memories
rising through the windshield, new promises illuminated by headlights.
Using synthesizers, guitar, modified samplers and computers, Zwart recorded
this project alone while on hiatus from his previous band, DESOLATION
WILDERNESS. Both projects have emerged as expansive expressions of
movement; recordings about new places, the infinite possibilities afforded
by never staying still long enough to take root. Now, he is primed to take
Electric Sunset on the road following paths already traveled, and creating
new ones, existing as an electric hum on the highway.
Eluvium - Leaves Eclipse The Light CD (Temporary Residence Ltd)
[TRR164] $9.25
Following the release of the artistically daring and critically acclaimed
Similes earlier this year, TRR is proud to present Leaves Eclipse The Light
EP, a scarcely limited CDEP featuring the stunning opening track from
Similes, plus two brand new exclusive tracks. "Leaves Eclipse The Light" is
a gorgeous, laconic piece of ambient pop that Alternative Press called
"breathtaking." Following that is "A Life In Tides Less Current," an
11-minute instrumental in which your mind is taken on the kind of
self-reflective, nostalgic journey that made ELUVIUM's Talk Amongst The
Trees album the cherished treasure that it is. Closing this EP is the
incredible, long-awaited remix of "The Motion Makes Me Last" by
electronic/dance icon FOUR TET. Tucked away on the Enhanced CD portion of
this EP is the awe-striking "The Motion Makes Me Last" video directed by
acclaimed filmmaker MATT MCCORMICK (The Shins, Some Days Are Better Than
Others). Strictly limited to 2,000 copies and featuring an exquisite custom
die-cut cover.
Frankie Rose and the Outs - Frankie Rose And The Outs CD
(Slumberland) [SLR124] $12.00
FRANKIE ROSE has a reputation for minimal, Maureen Tucker-like beats and
iconic presence in such buzz-stirring bands as CRYSTAL STILTS, DUM DUM
GIRLS and VIVIAN GIRLS-groups that spearheaded a thriving scene that mixes
the sounds of lo-fi garage and big, reverb-drenched, Phil Spector-produced
'60s girl groups with the noise aesthetic of The Jesus and Mary Chain, a
touch of Velvet Underground and a strong DIY ethic. On her new group's
self-titled Slumberland Records debut, FRANKIE ROSE AND THE OUTS have their
heads in the clouds a bit more than Rose's previous projects. The singer /
guitarist / drummer-backed by bassist CAROLINE YES, guitarist MARGOT
BIANCA, and drummer KATE RYAN-explores her dream-pop side on the album's
darker numbers, from the oscillating organs, spooky sleigh bells and
melancholic melodies of "Hollow Life" and "Lullabye for Roads and Miles" to
the disembodied balladry of "Save Me" and "Memo." It's all in the name of
making "beautiful, serious music" that reaches well beyond simple Wall of
Sound nods, though. That's because Rose is more concerned with maintaining
a specific mood than rehashing the hooks to which your parents lost their
virginity. Includes an Arthur Russell cover song. Vinyl includes free
digital download coupon. No exports to the UK/Europe. Currently on tour.
Girls
At Dawn, The - Call The Doctor CD (Norton Records) [CED361CD] $13.00
"New York City's The Girls At Dawn put out a sound that is alternately
ethereal and pounding, unassuming but infectious, with a stash of primal
layers delivering a haunting and unapologetically feminine musical
dreamscape. Comprised of a dozen stand-out originals, all self produced-and
recorded for this album, tracks include the unforgettable 'Come Here And
Die,' plus 'Evil One,' 'They're Waiting,' 'Most Terrible Thing,' and 'Reach
Me (Don't Forget).'"
Gonjasufi - The Caliph's Tea Party CD (Warp Records) [WARP206CD]
$15.50
"It's a tricky thing, re-working a completely unique and peerless piece of
music. It is made even trickier when the personality behind the original
music is so vivid and otherworldly that it is almost sure to continue to
cast its long shadow over whatever new form is chosen for it. It didn't
hurt that Gonja had made fans out of quite a few incredibly talented
artists. So, The Caliph's Tea Party was slowly summoned to life. Like the
Caliphs of the Ummahs of the 7th century, orchestrating affairs from their
palaces, Gonjasufi has assembled a collection of artists in his musical
world and invited them to exchange ideas. In this spirit, the symbolic and
musical centerpiece of the album, as well as its namesake, is the result of
the mutual admiration formed between Gonjasufi and Broadcast and The Focus
Group. A bewitching, drastic re-working of 'DedNd,' it takes the form of a
suite of layered compositions and radiophonic transmissions. Elsewhere,
reinterpretations from new talents shine while established artists continue
to surprise. Mark Pritchard (Harmonic313, Africa Hitech) channels Ennio
Morricone with epic orchestral dystopia on his remix of 'Ancestors' while
retaining the inherent gravity of Flying Lotus' original production. Young
guns Shlomo and Jeremiah Jae eschew their labeling as 'beatmakers' and tap
into a fractured emotional core within 'Change' and 'Holidays',
respectively, giving them new leases on life as subtly mechanized
melancholia. Bibio smooths out the rough edges of 'Candylane' for a remix
indebted to the 1980s R&B leftfield, while Brooklyn's Bear In Heaven and
Oneohtrix Point Never deal in heavy motorik meditations and ethereal
musique concrete."
Hard
Nips - I Shit U Not CD (BAB) [HN01] $8.75
Hard Nips have rolled in from the far east brandishing a riff-heavy
post-punk sound laced with the angelic strainings of vocalist YOKO SAWAI.
With their magnetic stage performance and blatant camaraderie the
Brooklyn-based foursome has blazed a trail to the hottest posts in town.
They played Williamsburg Fashion Week and a CMJ gig featuring all manner of
celebrities from Sean Lennon to TVOTR's Tunde Adebimpe. They've shared the
stage with local hot shit Dragons of Zynth and Awesome Color. Shucks, they
even won a spot on The Onion's "2009: The Year in Band Names". All this in
less than a year from their formation AND despite a bike accident that
literally shattered EMI NIP's hi-hat leg, she certainly owes much of her
recovery to visits from THE Neil Diamond. Hard Nips is riding high on the
realization that when you're in a great rock band with your best friends,
nothing else really matters.
Ian
Boddy - Pearl: A 30-Year Retrospective of the Music of Ian Boddy CD (DiN) [DiN36]
$16.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-09-2010
They say a journey begins with a single step. Ian Boddy's journey began in
1979 when he walked into the studio at Newcastle's Spectro Arts Workshop.
Intrigued by the sounds emanating from the banks of VCS3 synthesisers and
Revox tape recorders, he started a 30 year odyssey of musical
experimentation and adventure. Never following the mainstream or courting a
band-centric musical path he has nevertheless forged a truly unique musical
career. From the release of his first ever full album on the UK cassette
label Mirage in 1980, he has gone on to issue 23 solo & 24 collaborative
albums, performed over 100 concerts in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany &
USA, composed 11 library music albums for DeWolfe Music and programmed
several sample CD's & virtual instruments. In 1999 he founded the DiN
electronica label which has since become synonymous with adventurous and
eclectic music. There have been 35 titles to date, including albums by
Chris Carter, Robert Rich, Tetsu Inoue, Mark Shreeve, Markus Reuter & Erik
Wøllo. Boddy's influence also extends into sound design where numerous
musicians and film makers have used his sounds in their own music and
soundtracks. He has over 300 library music tracks released via DeWolfe
Music which are used worldwide on a huge variety of TV shows, documentaries
and films. These statistics are impressive enough however what impresses
the most is Boddy's sheer determination and presence of mind to follow his
own musical path and create music and sounds that offer a very personal
reflection of his own personality. Pearl is the 36th release on DiN and
offers a retrospective of Boddy's 30 year journey. Released in a limited
edition of 1,000 (with the first 300 being signed & numbered by the artist)
, beautifully designed digipak format the music is split across two discs.
"Outer DiN" attempts to bring together all his work outside of DiN. It
includes his solo work stretching all the way back to the early cassette
releases, three DeWolfe library music tracks and an excerpt of his sound
design work. "Inner DiN" showcases both his solo and collaborative work on
the DiN ambient label. Boddy has mixed both CDs into a continuous mix of
music that provides a fascinating and unique way to experience the music of
a truly original musician.
Imandra Lake - Seesamseesam CD (Seksound) [SEKs030] $13.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-21-2010
Imandra Lake is a new project of Pia Fraus' Rein Fuks and Eve Komp and
follows the similar shogaze line but it's all fresh and speaks Estonian.
Estonian indie label Seksound releases Imandra Lake's debut album
Seesamseesam making Estonia richer by another shining shoegaze pearl.
The tracks that have been heard here and there so far have caused quite an excitement and received positive feedback. Imandra Lake's shogaze is noisy and reverberant but less pop and quite tranquil and deep, reaching even the boundaries of the darker side of folk.
Seesamseesam is thoughtful and dreamy, it should not be listened in haste. It is a walk, with musicians as a guide, looking on the listener from above, singing about what the see from up there, from the mountaintops and clouds. They tell us through music about things small and close and so fantastic. For this, they use walls of noise, a wide range of instruments, minimalist lyrics and their mother tongue. It is definitely one of the most beautiful albums from Seksound.
To the side, we would recommend Red House Painters, Cranes, My Bloody
Valentine, Slowdive, The Pastels, Voices of Seven Thunders.

Lieutenant Caramel - Street Noise Penetrates My House CD (Waystyx)
[11339] $20.75
Lieutenant Caramel was born May 24, 1961 somewhere in France. Philippe
Blanchard composes his music in his personal Studio Acteon, now Studio
Forum in Annecy, in the french alps. He's also the founding member the
Noise of Snow Festival in Annecy. He defines himself as a hunter of sounds,
and collects the resonant matters from his different journeys (Syria, Iran,
Roma, Venice, Madrid, Samarkand or Madrid). He has won awards from several
international competition: GMEB in Bourges, France, the Luigi Russolo prize
in Italy, Radio France, La Muse in Circuit (Mauricio Kagel prize),
CIMES-FICS in Prague. He received the Radio France International award
"Hunters of sounds" in 2000 for "Captain Cook".
Majeure - Timespan 2CD (Temporary Residence Ltd) [TRR145]
$16.25
MAJEURE is the alter ego of ZOMBI drummer A.E. PATERRA, and Timespan is its
debut release. Taking the term "full-length" quite literally, the album is
made up of three epic side-long journeys through time and space. Merging
the darkness of Vangelis' Blade Runner-era Moog-driven scores and the
stately minimalism of Steve Reich and Philip Glass with the relentless
drive of Can and Silver Apples, Timespan delivers inspiring sci-fi disco of
the highest caliber. Written, recorded and painstakingly produced by
Paterra over an 18-month period, Majeure is unique in its careful
collaboration of live and electronic sounds. Anchored by Paterra's sturdy,
propulsive live drums, each song uses layers of analogue synthesizers to
masterfully craft extended compositions that virtually stop time before
speeding it up, culminating in countless moments of genuine majesty.
Marnie
Stern - Marnie Stern CD (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS516CD] $15.50
"Marnie Stern the album mirrors Marnie Stern, the woman. Birthed during a
challenging period in her life, the self-titled Marnie Stern is a
compendium of life stories both bitter and sweet. From ballads to her
signature pop guitar-tapping style, Stern and long-time co-conspirator Zach
Hill (Hella) have churned out (for lack of a better word) an enormous album
that will further cement Stern as a rising star in today's progressive
music landscape. Stern also enlists the bass talents of psych-rock Canadian
musician Matthew Flegel (of the band Women) and up-and-coming mixer Lars
Stalfors (Mars Volta, Funeral Party) resulting in Stern stepping up her
sonic game and revealing a mature and more focused side of herself."
Martin
Eyerer - Tiny Little Widgets 2CD (Blufin) [BFLP001CD] $17.25
This is the second solo album by Stuttgart-based Martin Eyerer, released on
Cologne-based imprint BluFin, including a CD of album remixes. A double CD
was chosen as the best format: first the album as a whole, secondly a CD
containing the remixes. More than 20 (!) years of experience and well over
a hundred (yes, 100) releases or remixes, as well as DJ gigs on every
continent on earth, Martin Eyerer has a track record that speaks for
itself. Two years after the distinctly dancefloor and club-oriented Word Of
Mouth, once again musical diversity is the main focus. With skill and
deliberation he manages to find the balance between DJ tools and listening
pieces, while always staying true to himself. These tracks are not just
geared towards DJs or clubbers, but generally for people with a musically
open mind. Tiny Little Widgets represents new territory, both in the
experimental and musical sense. To achieve this, Martin has deliberately
picked artists from different genres with whom to collaborate. And
crucially, where in the past Eyerer rarely incorporated vocals, he now
breaks this mold. For example, he was able to work with the Cuban singer
America Rodriguez for the song "Un Empujon." The track "Good Time" got its
vocals from Reggae Don. The latter's dancehall vibe seems to be skillfully
translated into an electronic tune. Then, there is another collaboration
with Phil Barnes who, according to Eyerer, is "one of the best singers he
knows." Especially gratifying and successful is the work with
internationally well-known singer, Kosheen. Over the last 10 years, Martin
has created three remixes for her -- and now it was her time to contribute
back the other way. Once again, the impressive list of remix producers
speaks for itself: Thomas Schumacher, Florian Meindl, Tigerskin, Namito,
Sasse vs. Phonogenic, Gel Abril, Martin Wörner, Helmut Dubnitzky, Chase
Buch & Nick Olivetti, Patrick Zigon, Nicole Moudaber, and Stephan Hinz.
These names, like Martin himself, stand for high quality club sounds and
contribute their own interpretations of Tiny Little Widgets tracks.
Megafaun - Heretofore CD (Hometapes) [HT037] $13.25
Across its first two LPs-2008's Bury the Square on Table of the Elements
and Gather, Form and Fly, the band's Hometapes debut-MEGAFAUN did nothing
if not test the boundaries of its comforts. JOE WESTERLUND and brothers
BRAD and PHIL COOK found rarified intersections between bedrock folk and
howling drone, between primal blues and cascading feedback, between canyon
rock and warped field recordings. Heretofore, a mini-album and Megafaun's
third release in as many years, is yet another articulation of the band's
evolved Americana vernacular. Rather than push the boundaries with sonic
plundering or structural pillaging, however, Heretofore finds Megafaun
pairing five of its most concise, communicative songs to date with its most
challenging, compelling experiment ever, a radiant and redemptive 13-minute
instrumental called "Comprovisation for Connor Pass."
Mice
Parade - What It Means To Be Left-handed CD (Fat Cat) [FAT0101] $13.25
Part children's cartoon, part career retrospective, What It Means To Be
Left-Handed is the first MICE PARADE album to be released in the band's
second decade of existence. Diverging from the pop sensibilities of Mice
Parade's most recent successes-Bem-Vinda Vontade and Mice Parade-it is a
fresh adventure, all over the map and awash in color; splashes of
West-African Highlife mingle with Flamenco, Brazilian Jazz, and the late
'80s indie rock that band founder ADAM PIERCE was stuck on in high school.
Featuring members of the band's globally-scattered touring outfit-vocalist
CAROLINE LUFKIN, drummer DOUG SCHARIN (REX, CODEINE, HiM), and classical
guitarist DAN LIPPEL-as well as guests like Swahili vocalist SOMI and
Meredith GODREAU of GREGORY & THE HAWK-What It Means To Be Left-Handed
showcases the intricate sonics, joyful audio experimentation, and expansive
worldview that make Mice Parade one of the most compelling ensembles of our
time.
Nekrasov - Extinction CD (Crucial Blast) [CBR86] $12.00
Riding atop the recent wave of black metal / noise hybrids that combine the
bleak, frosty riffs and blackened ferocity of underground metal with
blown-out, corrosive strains of industrial noise (see also Wold, Emit,
Grief No Absolution, Enbilulugugal, Vargr), the Australian one-man band
NEKRASOV has made a substantial mark in the realm of extremist necro-racket
with a series of brutally abrasive limited-edition albums. Extinction is
loaded with blasting, inhuman drumming and ferocious riffing that form
noise-drenched trance-scapes, but the subtle attention to texture elevates
this above typical mechanized black metal projects. Immersing the listener
in layers of electronic sound and using creative stereo panning techniques
and other production tricks, Nekrasov creates a harsh, alien atmosphere.
This is a scorching new chapter from one of the foremost bands out there
fusing black metal and noise
Nobunny - First Blood CD (Goner) [60GONE] $12.00
Hail! Hail! America's favorite loopily leporine rock 'n' roller, NOBUNNY,
is back with a new album, First Blood, and it's his catchiest batch of
tunes yet. The melodious masked man kicks it off with "Ain't It a Shame," a
bittersweet tale of a rocky romance in which Nobunny's lover has no choice
but to endure his frequent indiscretions. He's just that damned charming.
"Blow Dumb" is a Velvet-y tribute to all the things that make life worth
livin'-"smokin' Copenhagen," make-out sessions and "burger breaks." In
fact, First Blood never overstays its welcome and lasts about as long as a
particularly adventurous mid-party burger run. In under half an hour,
Nobunny goes through every worthy rock 'n' roll subgenre-bubblegum pop,
garage, rockabilly and psych-and still beautifully articulates every single
human emotion with ease. Recently completed a two-month US tour; European
dates in September and October with more to come.

Nurse
with Wound/Larsen - Erroneous: A Selection Of Errors CD (Important Records)
[IMPREC310CD] $13.50
"Erroneous, A Selection Of Errors is the result of the meeting of Italian
cult band Larsen and Steven Stapleton's ubiquitous creature Nurse With
Wound. Almost 2 years of file swapping and occasional conceptual meetings
led to a multi-headed collection of deformed sounds based on one long NWW
piece and two Larsen tracks (that both bands have written specifically for
this project) then deconstructed and rebuilt by each other into totally
brand new opuses. Erroneous also features Neu! and Kraftwerk original
member Eberhard Kranemann on additional guitars, synth, sax and vocals as
well as Larsen collaborator Daniele Pagliero, a.k.a. Lo Dev Alm, on bass.
Just like the music, the artwork of the album is also a joint effort
sporting works of Stapleton's alter-ego Babs Santini, Larsen's graphic
designer Bellissimo and E. Kranemann."
Orb,
The & Youth - Impossible Oddities: From Underground To Overground 3CD (Year Zero)
[YZTD006CD] $17.25
Subtitled: The Story Of W.A.U.! Mr. Modo. Year Zero presents a deluxe 3CD
package telling the comprehensive story of the iconic W.A.U.! Mr. Modo
label started by Alex Paterson and Killing Joke bassist, Martin "Youth"
Glover that gave birth to The Orb in the late '80s. W.A.U.! Mr. Modo was
the product of like-minded music freaks and lifelong friends Youth and Alex
Paterson setting out to celebrate and play their part in the acid house
revolution sweeping the UK in the late '80s. In the process, they became
two of the most well-known and lastingly influential names to emerge from
the whole movement, while the label epitomized the innocence and questing
spirit of the era. The first Orb single, recorded at KLF's Transcentral
squat HQ, was a homage to KISS FM., called The Kiss EP. Meanwhile, Alex and
Youth started demoing a song they called "Little Fluffy Clouds" (a
never-before heard version which opens this compilation). After hooking up
with former Killing Joke road manager Adam Morris (aka Mr. Modo), the label
became known as W.A.U.! Mr. Modo. The music started flowing freely as names
including STP Twentythree, Insync, Paradise X and Lyndsey Holloday recorded
there. The two CDs also feature the cream of the early W.A.U. releases; a
stellar collection of half-forgotten names from the acid house archives
(several featuring Alex and Youth), including STP Twentythree, Eternity,
Discotec 2000, Delkom, Johnson Dean, U.N.C.L.E., Paradise X, Sun Electric,
Indica All Stars, Mystic Knights, Insync, Sound Iration and Zoe, with
"Sunshine On A Rainy Day," one of the label's biggest hits. The recordings
here can now be considered the acid house equivalent of Alan Lomax's blues
field recordings or compilations of DIY bedroom punk; snapshots of seminal
moments in musical history. In many ways, acid house was like punk rock all
over again; like that movement, Youth and Alex were again in the thick of
it but soon out front, leaders of the field within a very short time. This
is where it all started. To accompany this celebration of the label, this
must-have, collector's package includes a fold-out scrapbook poster of
press cuttings from the time unearthed from Paterson's personal archive as
well as iconic cover art from Jimmy Cauty. Includes a bonus DJ mix CD mixed
by The Orb.
CD1
Artist Info: Strië is the moniker of multi-artist and musician Iden Reinhart, a retired prodigy actress and cellist who now lives in a secluded mansion on the rural outskirts of a town in Central Europe that shall remain nameless. Little is known of her past because Miss Reinhart made sure to erase traces of her background when she retreated from the spotlight, but in her prime she featured in several quartets performing around Europe and world-wide. With the rise to stardom, however, she also became the subject to envy and people who wanted to take advantage of her success and as a result, Iden Reinhart retired from her career at a much too early age and now lives with her Cat, leading a modest life in an elegant mansion where she in the comfort and secret of her own home creates electronic compositions with elements of the cinematic to preserve memories of her acting days. Some of her sounds have recently also been acquisitioned by the likes of Pjusk and lately Greg Haines, and her album, Sléptis, for Soundscaping is a production of various bits and pieces rediscovered after years of tracing Reinhart's legacy. Strië also contributes on Erik Skodvin's forthcoming solo album on Sonic Pieces.
Release Info: Sléptis, translating to hidden from its original language,
is the debut album of musician Strië. The music defines any particular
genre classification, but includes elements that connects it with
classical, jazz, electronic and is thoroughly drenched with cinematic
aspects and borrows loosely from the neolithic genre acoustic doom. With
this outset, and Strië described the album's gestation process as one in
which the sounds and the story of Sléptis sought her out, rather than vice
versa, it is with a veil of the enigmatic and apparent semi- obscurity,
Soundscaping releases its third title. The songs of Sléptis meet the
listener as a series of overlapping, recurring stories -- fragmented in
each track and also across the whole album. Strië weaves intricate and
richly detailed soundscapes that creep into the corners of one's
imagination and probe and provoke to uncover the hidden aspects of the
world portrayed in Sléptis. The sound is often nestled in familiar and
warming tones, but the atmosphere just as easily shifts to cold and darker
territories, tinkering with the alien and unseen, and in all of this Strië
manages to retain a red line winding its way through her imaginative, sonic
journey. Ultimately the message conveyed is left hanging in the air and up
to the listener to determine, as such yielding both a pleasant listening
experience as well as challenging the listener.
Supersilent - 10 CD (Rune Grammofon) [RCD2102CD] $16.00
This is the tenth release in the Supersilent series. Since the very
beginning, Supersilent have always moved forward with the greatest
integrity. Supersilent's music is collective work, total group improvising,
with not a whit of individual grandstanding. They never rehearse as a group
and don't discuss the music with each other, meeting only to play concerts
or to record. Every recording and every concert is a unique occasion, not
to be repeated, and their music lives in a no-man's-land between the
genres, somewhere between rock, electronica, jazz and modern composition.
It can sometimes appear to be written or at least arranged, again making it
clear that these musicians communicate on a high, almost telepathic level.
Supersilent 10 brings further evidence to the above. Known as being heavy
on the electronics, they have moved slightly towards a more acoustic
landscape with Ståle Storløkken, treating the splendid Steinway piano
at Rainbow with some great playing. Supersilent 10 features some of the
band and Arve Henriksen's most beautiful and lyrical moments side-by-side
with some of their most eerie soundscapes. Most of the recordings on this
album were done by Jan Erik Kongshaug at Rainbow with some recordings from
the Supersilent 8 sessions from 2005 added. Mixed by Helge Sten. Members
include: Helge Sten (audio virus, electric guitar), Ståle Storløkken
(grand piano, keyboards), Arve Henriksen (trumpet, electronics).
Swans
- My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky CD (Young God) [YG43]
$13.25
After years of pursuing ANGELS OF LIGHT and recording and producing a
diverse roster of artists for his Young God label, MICHAEL GIRA has
reconvened his legendary group SWANS. As he says: "This is not a reunion.
It's not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After
five Angels of Light albums, I need a way to move forward, in a new
direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans allows
me to do that." This highly anticipated album is as powerful and diverse as
anything Gira's ever done, in Swans or otherwise. It opens with the epic,
soul-crushing "No Words / No Thoughts," but quickly veers to more pastoral
terrain, and on to ever-ascending monotonal grooves. A filmic-folk idyll
featuring DEVENDRA BANHART on lead vocal abruptly shifts to cataclysm, and
is followed by more airplane-taking-off ascensions, art songs and lethal
sonic pummeling. In short, this is the new Swans album, a significant
advance from where they left off and as challenging and emotionally
demanding as ever. New York Times feature on 9/5/10. Massive 18-month
tour in support of the album's release begins late September.
Tandoori Knights, The - Curry Up CD (Norton Records) [CED363CD]
$13.00
"A dozen curried treats from the remarkable King Khan and Bloodshot Bill
featuring the hit single 'Pretty Please' as well as soon-to-be Tandoori
taste treats 'Into Her Arms' and 'Bandstand' and mo' Hindu hi-jinx! Billy
says, 'This is what Warren Smith would have sounded like if he recorded in
Bombay instead of Memphis...'."
Themselves - Crowns Down And Company CD (Anticon) [ABR0106]
$9.50
CrownsDown and Company completes a trilogy by DOSEONE and JEL's revived rap
power-duo, THEMSELVES. What began in early 2009 with theFREEhoudini-a
monumental mixtape that reunited a dozen of indie hip-hop's seminal
vocalists-now reaches its apt conclusion as ten gifted producers reinvent
the pair's recently released CrownsDown LP. While that album, in part, paid
tribute to rap's golden age icons (Gang Starr, Ultramag, Public Enemy), on
this companion piece artists like BATHS, LAZER SWORD, BUCK 65, DALEK, and
OUR BROTHER THE NATIVE seize upon Themselves' progressive side to create a
document firmly of the future. Limited to 1,500 numbered copies. No exports
to the UK/Europe.
Tivoli vs. Cabaret Voltaire - National Service Rewind CD
(Essential) [1768343] $15.50
2010 album from legendary Electronic pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, a
collaboration with new Sheffield Rock band The Tivoli, recorded at CV's
legendary Western Works studios. National Service Rewind is a sonic
juggernaut that cleaves all conception of Dance Rock crossover and dives
deep into the jugular to spit blood, bone and baritone. There are no
niceties here, no musical politesse, just a new clear war of Electronic
attrition, psychotic, Psychedelic Rock and tower-block rocking beats
peppered by juddering, Jamaican Dancehall bass.
Tristeza - Paisajes CD (Sanity Muffin) [SM23-2] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-30-2010
Paisajes is an album of sound, color and textures brought to height by 13
years of perseverance & creative inventiveness, eliciting admirers along a
quest to hone their creation of sound and feeling. Tristeza pride
themselves on the conveying and execution of such sensations. 9 new pieces
presented to listeners from a comforting maternal like source. Providing
playfulness, beauty and curiosity along a path of confident mellifluous
exploration.
Tristeza seems to have (consciously and/or unconsciously) decided to deliver the listener something both mysterious and vivid, a feat not easy to achieve. They took no shortcuts to get there, paying their dues in so many ways where most bands would have tossed in the towel. Pulling through feats of distance, parenthood and new members has never been easy. Through all this the main structural pillar always remained in tack. Guitar, Bass and Drums. Because of this dedicated foundation, a subtle rise to various rewards was made possible. Theres a common thread running throughout Tristeza's cosmos of sound, something previous patrons will find soothing and enjoyable to revisit, but with Paisajes, they will have new fruition of dynamics to suckle... A symmetrical web of creative ideas and new sounds are explored with Paisajes, all with impressive results.
Additions of vibraphone, violin and stealthy placed horns weave your ears in and around a silky network of sounds. All realized in the analog and without computer modeling. Tristeza tip hats respectively to an eclectic survey of influences along the ride but maintain their own fortitude while doing so. Sounds turn and congeal like a vintage kaleidoscope, morphing shapes & sounds from a nostalgic culmination of yesteryears and their own prospective harmony. Each twist loosens patterns of trancelike interlacing guitars akin to Spacemen 3, Felt or late period Talk Talk & early Durutti Column. Bass and rhythmic patterns influenced by Nigerian Afro Funk, Latin Cumbia & 60's / 70's German Kraut grooves. Delicate sounds celebrate their freedom and dance along their sidewalk in the sky.
Sonically and
creatively one of the most refreshing and therapeutic albums of recent
years.Tristeza lay out a scenic landscape (paisajes) and politely invite us
all to get lost inside...
U.S.
Christmas - Run Thick In The Night CD (Neurot Recordings) [NR074]
$13.25
Hailing from the Appalachian mountains region of western North Carolina and
eastern Tennessee, US CHRISTMAS' unique brand of psychedelic, high-volume
blues rock evades easy classification. The band was founded in Marion, NC,
in the summer of 2002, and played biker bars, art spaces and house shows
all over the Southeast dirt circuit for years, self-releasing albums in CDR
form. SCOTT KELLY of NEUROSIS heard their third album Salt the Wound via
his radio show Combat Music Radio / KMBT, which lead to the release of
2008's Eat the Low Dogs on Neurot Recordings. US Christmas now approaches a
decade of playing, recording and evolving, and continues to blur the
boundaries of heavy music with earsplitting rock that is by turns jangly,
crushing and dark. The group has often been associated with space rock, and
Rolling Stone even included them in an article / compilation CD on the
history of that genre. However, while they recently collaborated with Minsk
and Harvestman on a three-way tribute album to the British space-searchers
Hawkwind, US Christmas is influenced by a wide variety of music from all
eras and origins. No exports to the UK/Europe.
Various Artists - In Search Of Hawkwind CD (Critical Mass)
[CM005CD] $14.75
This CD release is the culmination of a long-running project initiated by
Mugstar in 2005, featuring explosive cover versions of iconic Hawkwind
songs by artists especially suited for the job. Originally conceived as a
split 7", or a double 7" package featuring two or four bands, the format
grew over time to album-length due to the fantastic response and enthusiasm
from artists around the globe eager to be involved and contribute. First up
were Seattle's Kinski and from Japan -- Acid Mothers Temple, performing
"Master Of The Universe" and "Brainstorm," respectively. From Philadelphia,
Bardo Pond recorded "Lord Of Light." Then Mudhoney's version of "Urban
Guerilla" -- originally recorded as a session track for John Peel -- was
re-discovered. At this point, Trensmat Records, hearing of the project,
mentioned that they had New York's White Hills lining up a cover of "Be
Yourself" for a 7" vinyl release and that it would be an excellent addition
to this tribute. Trensmat then also offered to release a set of the tracks
recorded so far on vinyl. This was quickly put together (with edited
versions to fit the 7" format) and released as the very limited and much
sought-after Sonic Attack 7" trilogy. Wooden Shjips offshoot Moon Duo of
San Francisco then added "Hurry On Sundown." Meanwhile, back in the UK,
Magoo recorded "Space Is Deep." Mugstar themselves perform "Born To Go" and
"Paradox," both recorded at Dave Anderson's Foel Studios in Mid Wales --
Dave, of course, being Hawkwind's bass player on In Search Of Space in the
early '70s. Mugstar recorded two tracks with the intention of using the
most successful one; however, pleased with the way they both worked out,
they decided to include them both. Interestingly, the contributors were
originally asked simply to record a Hawkwind track of their choice, yet all
nine selections are drawn from Hawkwind's stunning first five releases --
Hawkwind, In Search Of Space, Doremi Fasol Latido, Space Ritual and Hall Of
The Mountain Grill, a classic era. So, finally here it is, beautifully
presented in a silver and black digipak, the full-length versions of all
the recordings brought together to deliver over an hours' worth of
super-charged space-rock assault.
Various Artists - Echo Beach 30th Anniversary Remixes CD (Echo
Beach) [EB080CD] $16.00
"Echo Beach" is a legendary new wave tune recorded in 1980 by the Canadian
combo Martha & The Muffins. Germany's finest (as far as progressive sounds
and flows are concerned) dub label, named Echo Beach and inspired by the
lyrics and spirit of that track, has set out to pay tribute to this song,
which is more than a classic. The first mix/remix of "Echo Beach," done by
Reverend E.C.H.O. and released on the Echo Beach sampler Various Artists:
Far Away In Time has already enjoyed a strong reputation worldwide. Mark
Gane, the original composer of "Echo Beach" and still a member of Martha &
The Muffins reacted thusly, "It sounds as if the original 'Echo Beach' was
shot into outer space, hit a planet and floated back to earth in pieces!"
Now, 30 years later, after "Echo Beach" was written, the Echo Beach label
proudly presents the 30th anniversary remixes. The original track is one of
those tunes that on first hearing you like, but can't exactly place why,
and by 30 seconds into the spin, you're close to falling in love. Martha
Johnson, the female vocalist on "Echo Beach" said recently: "2010 marks
thirty years since the song that Mark Gane wrote and I sang was first heard
around the world. The passage of time only makes the song more nostalgic
for many people who hear it and recall a special time in their lives. The
reinvention of 'Echo Beach' by so many artists brings new life and a new
audience to the song." So check out the vibes -- beautiful, uplifting and
classy dubby-housy-funky-chilly-ambient -- and head out to the "Echo
Beach." Remix artists include: Oliver Frost, Thomas Fehlmann, Gateway To
Samadhi, Polar Rundfunk, Dub Spencer & Trance Hill, Grand Phabao, Aldubb,
Go Home Productions, Karl Moestl, Internationally Trained Bunnies, Disco
Boys, Hakan Lidbo, and Jimmy Caulty vs. Salz vs. Groove Corporation vs.
Paralyzer.
Various Artists - Fünf 2CD (Ostgut Ton) [OSTGUT015CD]
$17.25
Ostgut Ton releases this unique compilation of music crafted from field
recordings made inside the two Berlin clubs Berghain and Panorama Bar. The
concept and original recordings were made by the Berlin-based producer,
Emika. Over a period of two months, Emika created the recordings in the
clubs while they were closed to the public and edited them into a library
of sounds. The library was then given to all the Ostgut Ton artists, but
also to club associates like DJ Pete aka Substance, Dinky, Cassy, Margaret
Dygas, Ryan Elliott and Scuba, using his SCB alias, to make music with.
This release marks the celebration of the label's five year anniversary.
Emika's idea started from feeling the whole building resonating from the
music being played, which led to the question: which sounds exist here when
there is no party? Intrigued by stories of how the club spaces and sound
systems influence the resident DJ sets and productions, Emika was curious
to explore what music could be made from the building itself. Berghain's
sound technicians Krischan Makswitat and Silvio König helped to record
the entire light rig including the strobe lights, which in itself sounds
like techno. Other interesting sources to record were the large cooling
rooms used for storing thousands of drinks in bottles. The ventilation
systems in these rooms make incredible sub-frequencies mixed with the sound
of the bottles vibrating against each other. The club also contains large
swings made from metal which creak and moan at the slightest of movement.
In total, the library comprised over four gigabytes of sounds, and the
artists were not given restrictions on how to make music from the library.
The tracks on this compilation consist of each artist's signature
production aesthetics and feature debut solo productions by residents
Fiedel (one-half of seminal Berlin-based outfit MMM), Boris and Prosumer's
long term production partner, Tama Sumo. All together, this release
highlights the special and inseparable relationships between the label,
club space, and collective of artists. Other artists include: Marcel
Fengler, Nick Höppner, Shed, Steffi, Len Faki, Barker & Baumecker,
Marcel Dettmann, Murat Tepeli (feat. Elif BiÄ~C§er), Soundstream, Ben
Klock, Norman Nodge, and Luke Slater.
Various Artists - Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep CD (Rune
Grammofon) [RCD2100CD] $16.00
Rune Grammofon celebrates release number 100 with this quite excellent and
suitable collection of tracks from 13 of their esteemed artists, old and
new. When the label started to compile the album and look at possible track
orders, they soon noticed the large number of quiet tracks they had
received, making it closer in feel to a "real" album than a compilation,
and by far the best compilation album they have done. Twelve tracks are
exclusive to this release, including a track by up-and-coming Rune
Grammofon artist Jenny Hval. As with previous compilations, Rune Grammofon
has turned to song lyrics and poems for the title -- this one is from
William Butler Yeats' short but monumental poem "The Second Coming." Other
artists include: Alog, The Low Frequency In Stereo, Ultralyd, Espen Eriksen
Trio, In The Country, Bushman's Revenge, Hilde Marie Kjersem, Stian
Westerhus, Puma, Deathprod, and Supersilent.
Various Artists - Ninja Tune XX: Volume 1 2CD (Ninja Tune)
[ZEN1601CD] $17.25
"The Ninja Tune label is twenty years old this September, 2010, and what
we've put together to celebrate this momentous anniversary is not a
retrospective but what we're calling a futurespective. This 2CD release is
part 1 of a compilation of new exclusive tracks and remixes, not just from
Ninja artists, but from some of the biggest names in contemporary
electronic music. Part 1 includes tracks from Two Fingers with the
absolutely pummeling opener 'Fools', and many more new and exclusive tracks
from the likes of Zomby, Dorian Concept, Roots Manuva, The Bug, to name but
a few. It also sees the return of Big Dada Sound with the cream of the
label's UK MCs riding a Bless Beats rhythm. With remixes from Flying Lotus,
Coldcut, Diplo, Benga, and more! This is a release not to be missed."
Various Artists - Ninja Tune XX: Volume 2 2CD (Ninja Tune)
[ZEN1602CD] $17.25
"Part 2 of the Ninja XX compilations includes another feast of music with
highlights coming in the form of Autechre's minimalist remix of The Bug's
'Skeng'; the Floating Points Ensemble's epic soul-jazz number 'Post Suite';
the exquisite link-up between Lou Rhodes and The Cinematic Orchestra on
'One Good Thing'; Gaslamp Killer's vicious re-work of DJ Vadim's classic

Wolfgang Dauner - Knirsch CD (HGBS Musikproduktion) [HGBS016CD]
$15.75
"Classic interweaving of jazz, rock, avant-garde and electronic, with Larry
Coryell & Colosseum's Jon Hiseman. Completely new standards were set with
this recording, originally released on MPS in 1972. Knirsch became cult and
still is until now, almost 40 years after its release. A unique example for
the successful interweaving of jazz, rock, avant-garde and electronic. The
musicians: US guitarist Larry Coryell, German keyboarder Wolfgang Dauner,
British drummer Jon Hiseman, US percussionist Fred Braceful and German
bassist Gunter Lenz. As its first issue, the labels promising music and
HGBS Musikproduktion (in succession of MPS) will release the border
surpassing masterpiece CD with its eye-catching cover of the wide open
dentures. Knirsch lost nothing of its initial musical stimulus. And for the
primarily young generation, it may be a totally new discovery. Although
some may know at least one title, the final track 'Yin'. As this one (an
honour not too many German composers experienced) was covered by Larry
Coryell on his recording 'Introducing The 11th House'."

Dreamtime - Double Trouble DVD+2CD (Reel Recordings)
[REELR018/20CD] $27.25
Dreamtime is an international quintet comprised of Welshman Nick Evans,
trombone; American ex-pat Jim Dvorak, trumpet; Italian Roberto Bellatalla,
bass, and Brits Gary Curson, alto sax; Jim Lebaigue, drums. Their
collective musicality is an infectious display of extroverted composition
and energetic jazz improvisation, all wrapped up and torn down in the
borderless spirit that is Dreamtime. This is a so-called jazz band that
reaches for music "beyond the notes" and succeeds with exquisite panache.
CD1 presents a stunning set by the quintet before an appreciative audience
at the 1986 Bracknell Jazz Festival, as introduced by compere Lol Coxhill.
CD2 lets us experience a rare 1991 recording of the Dreamtime quintet
doubled up with friends: Paul Rutherford, trombone; Paul Dunmall, tenor,
baritone saxophone; Kevin Davy, trumpet; Marcio Mattos, bass, and Mark
Sanders, drums. Here is a powerful capture of music-making as back of the
neck hair-raising as you would hope. To bring the Dreamtime into a
multi-sensory realm, disc 3 is an all-region DVD of an amateur film made at
London's 100 Club in 2006. Here the sextet, including pianist Keith
Tippett, play homage to their late friend, Elton Dean. DVD is NTSC all
region; Length: 25 minutes; mono audio; Color. What more can be said for
the music? Everything that listening will give testament to! Double Trouble
presents three discs with an ear and eye towards an overdue reappraisal of
this much-loved band of musical misfits, known today as "the dreamers."
Limited edition of 500 copies. All recordings delicately remastered from
original analog tapes.

Fantasy - Paint A Picture CD (Aurora) [AU5001CD] $16.00
This sophisticated collection of Mellotron-fuelled progressive rock
originally appeared in the UK only in December of 1973. It sank without a
trace, and is now one of the rarest albums of the era. It's presented here
complete with their ultra-rare non-LP 45, and notes explaining the band's
history, making it a must for fans of classic British prog.
Jim
Sullivan - U.F.O CD (Light In The Attic) [LITA054-2] $13.25
RELEASE DATE: 11-14-2010
U.F.O. was a different beast to the one-man-and-his-guitar stuff Jim had been doing on stage; instead, it was a fully realised album of scope and imagination, a folk-rock record with its head in the stratosphere. Sullivan's voice is deep and expressive like Fred Neil with a weathered and worldly Americana sound like Joe South, pop songs that aren't happy -- but filled with despair. The album is punctuated with a string section (that recalls David Axelrod), other times a Wurlitzer piano provides the driving groove (as if Memphis great Jim Dickinson was running the show). U.F.O. is a sliceof American pop music filtered from the murky depths of Los Angeles, by way of the deep south.
Yet, the record went largely unnoticed, and Jim simply moved on, releasing a further album on the Playboy label. But by 1975, his marriage breaking up, Jim left for Nashville and the promise of a new life as a sessioneer in the home of C&W. That's where it gets hazy. We know he was stopped by cops for swerving on the highway in Santa Rosa. We know he was taken to a local police station, found to be sober, and told to go to a local motel to get some rest. Some time later, his car was spotted on a ranch belonging to the local Genetti family, who confronted him about his business there. The next day Jim's car was found 26 miles from town, abandoned. His car and his hotel room contained, among other things, his twelve-string guitar, his wallet, his clothes, and several copies of his second album, but no note, and no Jim. It was as if he had simply vanished into thin air.
Jim's family travelled out to join search parties looking for him, the local papers printed missing person stories, but the search proved fruitless. Around the same time, the local sheriff retired and the Genettis moved to Hawaii. His disappearance remains a mystery, so much so that Light In The Attic spent years retracing Jim's last known whereabouts including a recent trip to Santa Rosa. Like many before them, the label returned with more questions than answers.
One thing is certain, U.F.O. stands as an eerie
masterpiece by an artist who left us far too soon.
Roger & Wendy - Love Rog & Wem CD (Lion Productions) [LION639CD]
$26.00
"Formerly of 1960s U.S. psych-folk band Euphoria (MGM/Heritage), not to
mention veterans of the late 1960s Greenwich Village coffee-house scene
that spawned many a career, Roger & Wendy made this private press album for
family and friends in 1971, in an edition of 50 copies. They later renamed
themselves Bermuda Triangle; their recently reissued 1977 album under that
name has garnered terrific reviews throughout the years. 'It started in New
York City with the guy across the hall, who was missing two fingers, saying
he earned money playing flamenco guitar in a Greenwich Village coffeehouse.
Roger and Wendy (we two, the two of us) exchanged glances. Could it be that
easy to get paid for making music? We put together some songs which
featured our vocals and Roger's autoharp, and headed from our 5th floor
walk-up slum tenement, where the holes through the ancient brick wall were
big enough for snow to blow in, across town to the BASEMENT coffeehouse on
MacDougal St. (in the Village) to audition. Hired after one song, we played
our first sets that night and every night thereafter 'til 4 A.M., seven
nights a week, 365 days a year. At the time, the coffeehouses were called
basket houses, since the only pay you got was what was collected in a straw
basket passed around at the end of each twenty minute set. Stephen Stills
said, 'I love your guys' music,' and dropped

Head and the Traits - Live It Up! CD (Norton Records) [CED358CD] $13.00
"Sixteen song roundup of the earliest recordings by inimitable Texas madman

the group's wild TNT and Renner singles!"
Sapphire Thinkers - From Within CD (Aurora) [AU5004CD]
$16.00
This Californian quintet come across like a woozier Association, The Mamas
& The Papas or Spanky & Our Gang on their sole LP, recorded in 1969. Their
sophisticated arrangements feature prominent organ and harmony vocals,
underpinned by fuzz guitar and a trippy vibe (are those magic mushrooms on
the front cover?). Put simply, From Within is lost classic of West Coast
psychedelic pop.
Sugar Creek - Please Tell A Friend CD (Aurora) [AU5003CD]
$16.00
This superb blend of psychedelia, rural rock and acid-tinged folk was
recorded in New York in 1969. The band had come together in Ohio earlier in
the decade, rising from the ashes of bands named the Infinite Doorknob and
Headstone Circus. Sugar Creek contained two future solo hit-makers,
Jonathan Edwards and Joe Dolce, but their album failed to connect with the
public, despite containing blistering cuts such as "A Million Years,"
"Memory Tree" and "Night Flash." Nonetheless, it has gone on to develop a
significant cult reputation and sells for ever-growing sums on the
collectors' market.
Summerhill - Summerhill CD (Aurora) [AU5002CD] $16.00
Overseen by long-time Neil Young collaborator David Briggs, this Los
Angeles quartet's eclectic album came and went in the summer of 1969.
Spanning psychedelia, pop-psych, orchestrated ballads, country-rock and
more, all wrapped up in a highly imaginative production, it's a lost
treasure from the glory days of the U.S. West Coast, and makes its CD debut
here. Includes historical liner notes.
Various Artists - After Twilight CD (LTM) [LTM2562] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 11-01-2010
LTM present a compilation album of new recordings by artists who recorded
for stylish European indie Les Disques du Crépuscule.
Featuring contributions from Antena, Anna Domino, Paul Haig, Blaine L. Reininger, Cathy Claret and The Names, After Twilight features several brand new songs as well as modern updates of favourite back-catalogue tracks. Part nostalgic reverie, part retro-futurist nod, the album was executive produced by electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena, and seamlessly mixed by Denis Moulin.
The booklet features cover art by noted designer Andrew
Prinz, as well as comprehensive liner notes by Paul Pledger.
Various Artists - Kabelbrand - Sounds from the Max Brand CD
(Moozak) [MZK#002] $18.04
The atypical and extraordinary max brand synthesizer, also referred to as
moogtonium (which is basically a reconstructed and enhanced trautonium) was
one of the first instruments built by bob moog, and was begun in a time
when moog's worldwide success was yet to come. This cd aims to capture the
machine's original sonorous spirit - every single track on this cd was
produced without the aid of any modern sound-altering production tools, and
in the arrangement process only techniques that were available in the 60ies
were used. Thus the sounds you are hearing on this album represent the true
sound of this powerful synthesizer. Additionally the cd features 2 late and
previously unreleased pieces by max brand himself. Both pieces were
produced entirely on the current moog synthesizer setup. Triptych was
composed by brand at the remarkable age of 74 in 1970, while ilian 4, a
ballet composed in 1974 and inspired by robert grave's book the greek myths
is the last preserved piece brand completed in his life. We are very proud
to release these impressive tracks worldwide for the very first time.

Tristeza seems to have (consciously and/or unconsciously)
decided to deliver the listener something both mysterious and vivid, a feat
not easy to achieve. They took no shortcuts to get there, paying their dues
in so many ways where most bands would have tossed in the towel. Pulling
through feats of distance, parenthood and new members has never been easy.
Through all this the main structural pillar always remained in tack.
Guitar, Bass and Drums. Because of this dedicated foundation, a subtle rise
to various rewards was made possible. Theres a common thread running
throughout Tristeza's cosmos of sound, something previous patrons will find
soothing and enjoyable to revisit, but with Paisajes, they will have new
fruition of dynamics to suckle... A symmetrical web of creative ideas and
new sounds are explored with Paisajes, all with impressive results.
Additions of vibraphone, violin and stealthy placed horns weave your ears
in and around a silky network of sounds. All realized in the analog and
without computer modeling. Tristeza tip hats respectively to an eclectic
survey of influences along the ride but maintain their own fortitude while
doing so. Sounds turn and congeal like a vintage kaleidoscope, morphing
shapes & sounds from a nostalgic culmination of yesteryears and their own
prospective harmony. Each twist loosens patterns of trancelike interlacing
guitars akin to Spacemen 3, Felt or late period Talk Talk & early Durutti
Column. Bass and rhythmic patterns influenced by Nigerian Afro Funk, Latin
Cumbia & 60's / 70's German Kraut grooves. Delicate sounds celebrate their
freedom and dance along their sidewalk in the sky. Sonically and
creatively one of the most refreshing and therapeutic albums of recent
years.Tristeza lay out a scenic landscape (paisajes) and politely invite us
all to get lost inside...

Armchair Traveller - Schöne Aussicht LP (Staubgold)
[STAUBANA001LP] $16.00
Travellers in their
armchairs, at once alienated and fascinated, discover the foreignness in
themselves.
Art
Abscons - Der Verborgene Gott LP (Blind Prophet Records) [11341] $18.75
Der Verborgene Gott is the debut vinyl release of Germany's ART ABSCONs.
Full of catchy pop hooks, lush ethereal soundscapes, strong rhythms, and a
deep underlying intellectual spirituality, Der Verborgene Gott is destined
to be a long-lasting classic within the neofolk and post-industrial genres.
Sometimes bringing to mind mid-period Death In June, Der Blutharsch or even
the later works of Einstürzende Neubauten, Der Verborgene Gott maintains a
strong identity and evokes a sound that can only be described as: ART
ABSCONs. Der Verborgene Gott features collaborations with members of:
Luftwaffe, Sinweldi, Gnomanclast, and Valence.
Black
Math - Phantom Power LP (Permanent Records) [PERM019LP] $15.00
"WFMU aptly described Black Math's debut LP from 2009 as 'Dark-wave buried
in tape hiss, with grinding synth, electric cello, and drum machine. The
three piece lists Depeche Mode and Big Black as influences, but they're not
straight up 80s.' The band will also tell you that Siouxsie and the
Banshees are a big influence, but Black Math has a completely compelling,
catchy, dark and mysterious sound all their own. This album features 9 new
tracks of killer dark-Ä~B~@~Pwave pop (with some pretty harsh sounding
guitar and synth parts) as well as an amazing cover of the Anals' 'Commando
of Love' (from the Anals' now sold out LP Total Anal, also on Permanent).
First press is limited to 500 copies and includes a digital download link."
C
Spencer Yeh/Jon Wesseltoft - Northern Resonance III-II LP (8mm) [8mm043]
$29.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-21-2010
Limited edition of 300. Yeh and Wesseltoft met in Oslo, Norway, in the cold
winter of 2008. Within the combination between the highly dynamic peaks of
Spencer's violin and the warm, eternal continuum produced by Jon's
harmonium, they found the key to deliver a flux of epic, organic drones
that sound like nothing they have recorded before. Two years later
(february 2010), they did it again, same room, same set-up, same magic. The
best takes from those sessions are on the two sides of this Lp. This is the
sound of the Norwegian fjords, so powerful and bright like a 'northern
resonance', as perfectly defined by its title. The cover artwork by Lasse
Marhaug give the final touch to this gem. Ageless. Full colour pro-printed
cover, edition of 300 copies.
Cacaw
- Cacaw LP (Permanent Records) [PERM021LP] $15.00
"If you dug the brutal noise rock sounds crammed onto the one side of their
debut EP, you're gonna flip over their brand new LP. It's heavier, louder,
and longer. That's right, two full sides of Cacaw's signature noise rock
brutality. A big selling point for their first release was the fact that
two former members of the Coughs are in Cacaw, however, Cacaw have since
garnered their own audience and the Coughs reference seems barely worth
mentioning any longer. For those of you who haven't heard them yet, Cacaw
takes the Coughs sound and distills it down to a more minimal yet no less
intense brand of really f***ing groovy noise rock. Cacaw have quickly
become one of Chicago's most popular underground rock bands. Cacaw's second
record, just like their first release, is a doozie both sonically and
visually. The grooves on the marbled colored vinyl contain some incredibly
intense jams. The card stock tri-color jacket has also been diligently hand
screen printed by band members."
Circle
Pit - Bruise Constellation LP (Siltbreeze) [SB140] $14.50
Glimmer Twins infatuation-well, some folks can pull it off, others cannot.
We all know how well Royal Trux rocked 'n' cocked it through the '90s, and
now in the second decade of the 21st century, CIRCLE PIT have sauntered
into the boozy sway with their debut LP Bruise Constellation. Seemingly
born out of the tar and tobacco of Nellcote / Exile on Main Street-session
blooze, Circle Pit ably finesse a torn and frayed sound that's as retro as
it is original. Oozing raw talent and possessed with uncanny sensual /
sexual osmosis, Bruise Constellation will have you believing it's the
Summer of '72 all over again (again)
Datsik
- 3 Fist Style 12 inch (Basshead) [BASSHEAD005EP] $10.50
"The Basshead label from Miami, Florida and keeps the focus on bass-heavy
dancefloor music. He is a lone wolf, many enemies, his name is Datsik and
with 'Fist Style' he drops Wu Tang meets twisted dubstep action. On the
flip 'Serum' steps things up to 170 with a dirty jump up remix."
David
Labeij - Feels Like T 12 inch (Intacto) [INTAC029EP] $11.50
Internationally known for his techno sounds as one-half of Polder, David
Labeij's solo productions soar between hypnotic deep house and delicate
techno. For Feels Like T, David interprets that "old school" techno feeling
and gives it a personalized, fresh-faced twist. "White T" features fluid
dance beats that slide across a swollen bass line, creating a sensual
soundscape. On "Black T," gritty beat-nuggets fly and collide like atoms.
This bad-ass floor tune takes you to the darker side of dance life.
Dead
Farmers - Go Home LP (R.I.P. Society) [RIP009] $18.00
"Long awaited debut LP after being the first release on Aarght Records
(Eddy Current, UV Race, Super Wild Horses etc) a couple of years ago. I saw
their first or second show three and a half years ago and haven't missed
many since. At the time it seemed everything around me was no-wavey or
post-something and these three young men playing powerful, honest-to-god
rock music felt like the most ambitious, genuine thing around. Somewhere
between your garage punk and heavy pyschedelic rock (Groundhogs, Blue
Cheer, Mainliner etc). These dudes feel like my local
Stooges/Creedence/Minutemen."
DJ
Madskillz Presents Morning Glory Seeds - Tramadol 12 inch (Remote Area)
[REMOTE030EP] $11.50
Remote Area welcomes one of Amsterdam's most versatile artists -- DJ
Madskillz as Morning Glory Seeds. The last 2 decades have witnessed
Madskillz release more than 90 unique and energetic productions dedicated
to the dancefloor. When Morning Glory Seeds appears, it's not as the
heart-shaped plant that induces all manner of hallucinogenic pleasures, but
he will take you on a trip to the deeper side of dance life -- so hold on
tight.
DJ
Naughty - Goosebumps 12 inch (Roska Kicks & Snares) [MR009EP] $10.50
"Goosebumps EP feat remixes from Jamie George (Wonderful Day vocalist) and
Bristol dubstep don Gemmy. This is DJ Naughty's second release on the Kicks
& Snares. Deep subs driven Funky with lustrous bass offset by hard snares
and synched to dubby organ stabs to help hone your Marcus Nasty look."
Dustin
Wong - Infinite Love 2xLP (Thrill Jockey) [THR251LP] $18.25
"The LP version contains 2LPs + a DVD presented in a gatefold jacket with a
download coupon. Side A starts Infinite Love off. Side B & Side C are the
alternate endings ('Brother' or 'Sister'). Side D is an exclusive bonus EP,
Indigo and Crystal. The DVD features a film to accompany the music, with
either 'Brother' or 'Sister' audio."
Falty
DL - Endeavour 12 inch (Planet Mu) [ZIQ279] $7.50
Following the Phreqaflex EP, where Falty DL mined two-step garage for
inspiration, Endeavour features three beautifully crafted slow-motion house
tracks. "Endeavour" itself introduces a lush atmosphere with molasses-thick
chords, off-beat bleeps and drums before breaking into subtle keyboard
stabs. "Filthy Divinity" takes a more hip-hop-oriented route with a
plaintive lead synth melody playing out over dusty drum breaks and claps,
building into a crescendo with lush, sampled orchestra strings. "Odyssey"
delivers classic Detroit techno at a snail's pace and adds jazzy strings
and a classic fusion moog melody for something that's simultaneously fresh
and nostalgic. This is the second of two EPs, each exploring a particular
style of electronic music, and includes three beautifully crafted
slow-motion house tracks. No exports outside North America or Japan.
Forgetters - Forgetter 2x7 inch (Too Small To Fail) [TSTF01]
$8.75
FOREGETTERS is a three-piece Brooklyn band that formed in the summer of
2009. The members, BLAKE SCHWARZENBACH (JAWBREAKER, JETS TO BRAZIL),
CAROLINE PAQUITA (BITCHIN'), and KEVIN MAHON (AGAINST ME!), are not novices
but still believe in the possibility of new music and new forms. In this
spirit they have come together to explore the parameters of the power trio
as a vehicle to convey sonic and verbal ideas. Expect comedy, tragedy, tea
and sympathy. Includes free digital download coupon
Gabriel Ananda - Charming & Alarming 12 inch (Basmati) [BASMATI003EP]
$11.50
Organic stuff on the Basmati label from Gabriel Ananda. Tracks made by pure
immersion. No plans, no blueprints. Just going with the flow, unleashing
the inner Krautrock while staying true to the basics of techno. Inhale.
Girls
At Dawn, The - Call The Doctor LP (Norton Records) [ED361LP] $13.00
"New York City's The Girls At Dawn put out a sound that is alternately
ethereal and pounding, unassuming but infectious, with a stash of primal
layers delivering a haunting and unapologetically feminine musical
dreamscape. Comprised of a dozen stand-out originals, all self produced-and
recorded for this album, tracks include the unforgettable 'Come Here And
Die,' plus 'Evil One,' 'They're Waiting,' 'Most Terrible Thing,' and 'Reach

Ashburner - Field Of Vibrations 12 inch (Clandestine Cultivations) [CLDUB010EP]
$10.50
"Clandestine Cultivations are proud to finally usher in our 10th vinyl
release on the 10th year of this millennium, with another debut for a pair
of artists sure to join the ranks of the many successes we have broken in
the past. Goli and Ashburner have been making some pretty serious waves
over the past 12 months. First reaching the ears of the masses through
their definitive remix of Tempa T's Next Hype, which managed to top the
slew of remixes from established producers across the field and received
heavy play from Plastician amongst others. They followed this up with their
filthed out bootleg of Renegade Master which flew off the shelves ending up
in many a DJ's bag. After a host of gigs all over Europe and the UK, the
duo are keen to show off the side of the sound they really wanted to be
pushing all along. These 3 tracks are pretty far removed from the upfront
nature of their previous output, with Field Of Vibrations seeing the duo
refocus and refine their ample production talents into concentrated
bass-weight, an atmospheric concoction that bears a much closer similarity
to the seminal dubstep sound of 2006. Backed with Ashburner's steppers
special 'Space Skank,' and the dark and twisted bass mutations of 'Lurkin';
this platter is, we feel, a welcome return to the core values of dubstep in
a time when everything seems to be racing off in all directions. Big dread
bass for your ribcage."
Gonjasufi - The Caliph's Tea Party LP (Warp Records) [WARP206LP]
$20.00
Group
Doueh - Beatte Harab LP (Sublime Frequencies) [SF063LP] $21.50
Sublime Frequencies is honored to be releasing the third LP by the now
legendary Group Doueh. Group Doueh have been playing in and around their
native Dakhla, in the Western Sahara for over 27 years. Sublime
Frequencies' discovery of the group, via a song heard on a radio broadcast
in Morocco in 2005 and an exploratory mission in 2006 that landed Hisham
Mayet in the group's compound after chasing an overland trail all the way
to the Mauritanian border sealed the band's relationship with the label. A
successful European tour (with label-mate Omar Souleyman in 2009) ensued
and Western audiences were finally able to witness the power of the group's
mighty live shows. Doueh's guitar heroics and wife Halima Jakani and
Bashiri Touballi's soaring vocal interplay entranced all who were present.
This LP showcases a different side to Group Doueh's far-reaching arsenal of
sounds. The songs represented on this album adhere to the roots of Saharoui
music -- drawing from the classical repertoire of ancestral Mauritanian
musical modes. Using the traditional Moorish instruments such as the
tinidit (three string Mauritanian lute), ardin (kora-like harp played
traditionally by women), tbal (clay drum) and the kass (tea glasses) along
with guitar and Korg synth, Group Doueh manage to attain heights of
spiritual poetry that this music aspires to convey. Halima's ardin playing
and most importantly, her vocal prowess, take this music to blissful and
exalted realms. Doueh's tinidit and guitar overlays showcase the technical
virtuosity and command that this master has over the region's stringed
instruments. This is the music of Group Doueh's roots and the band truly
takes these traditions to cosmic heights. Recorded by Group Doueh and
Hisham Mayet on location in Dakhla, West Sahara in 2010. This limited
edition vinyl LP comes in a beautiful full-color gatefold jacket.
Keith
Fullerton Whitman - Disingenuity b/w Disingenuousness LP (Pan) [PAN013LP]
$29.25
"Keith Fullerton Whitman bursts back with his first full length record in
four years, Disingenuity b/w Disingenuousness, comprising of two pieces of
forward thinking electronic music with a deep exploration into the analogue
sound. Live and studio recordings of the past two years (Cambridge-New
York-Toronto) were used as source material, which were then realized into
two longform compositions. Using a Musique ConcrÄ~C¨te approach of
deconstructed sounds (ala Pietro Grossi, Costin Miereanu, Basil Kirchin,
Dub Taylor, etc), Disingenuity b/w Disingenuousness encompasses various
reference points from FranÄ~C§ois Bayle, Jacques Lejeune, Richard Pinhas &
Heldon to the minimal textures of Basic Channel / Chain Reaction axis...
Both tape-collage pieces which derived from an hour-long improvisation
based around a setup involving a tape of chance field-recordings (a
helicopter, walking on snow, children) bounced to a mono nagra tape
machine, which is covered in contact mic's that translate not just the
sound coming from the speakers, but the actual mechanical 'interface' of
the unit into control voltage & triggers that drive a modular synth that's
processing said audio using the classic electronic music toolkit (i.e. ring
modulation, panning VCA's, filters, etc). The LP is mastered and cut by
Rashad Becker at D&M, in a limited edition of 500 copies, pressed on 140g
vinyl and comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve. It is packaged in a pro-press
color jacket which itself is housed in a silk screened PVC sleeve with
artwork by Bill Kouligas."
Kidkut
- ILove04/Lilt 12 inch (Apple Pips Recordings) [PIPS013EP] $10.50
"Adam Jackson AKA Kidkut has played a major part in Bristol's music scene
over recent years with his Immerse label releasing consistently outstanding
music from the likes of Kontext, Benga, & Late to name but a few. Now
Jackson is teaming up with leading imprint Apple Pips for the release of
his own much awaited debut single. Apple Pips is the brainchild of Laurie
Osborne AKA Appleblim who has made the label one of the most desirable
dubstep/electronica imprints out there featuring music from Martyn,
Ramadanman, Brackles, Instra:mental & more. Kidkut's single kicks off with
the pointedly titled 'ILove04', a percussive roller that combines elements
of broken beat, UK Funky, & early dubstep, with snippets of garage vocals
and intense twisted bass. The arrangement cuts and flows perfectly,
chopping between rhythms and melodic parts with the breakdown giving a
definite nod of the head to oldskool hardcore. The flipside sees Kidkut
going totally tropical with the magnificent 'Lilt', a percussive workout
built around intricate drums and rolling bass that underpin the euphoric
summer inspired synth lines. Bringing to mind the stripped down work of
Karizma, this is sure to go down well with the Funky heads; indeed Bok Bok
is already supporting the tune."
Kitchens Floor - Loneliness Is A Dirty Mattress LP (R.I.P. Society)
[LPKITCHLONL] $18.00
Expanding on the promise of their excellent debut 7-inch, Brisbane,
Australia's KITCHEN'S FLOOR's have now blessed us with their first
full-length LP. The eleven dark n' dirgey pop songs -as bleakly monotonous
as they are catchy-hint at both the wrong-chorded clang of Pussy Galore and
the black-and-white paste-on mystery of the Xpressway and early Siltbreeze
catalogs. Brief and effective, the perfectly-titled Loneliness is a Dirty
Mattress lands with a gloriously blunt THUD. Though it wouldn't be far-off
to call whatever it is they're doing some kind of damaged folk-blues,
really what delivers is downer pop at its best-uncomfortable, unsound, and
immediately satisfying.
Kryptic Minds - Follw Me VIP/Rubberman 12 inch (Osiris Music)
[OSMUK010EP] $10.50
"Kryptic Minds don't mess about, with yet another huge release on Osiris.
'Follow Me VIP' is hypnotising dubstep at its finest. On the flip
'Rubberman' is deep and nasty in equal measures. DJ support from: Youngsta,
Skream, Distance & NType."
Lesser/Matmos/Wobbly - Simultaneous Quodlibet LP (Important Records)
[IMPREC312LP] $16.75
"Matmos, Wobbly & J Lesser present: Simultaneous Quodlibet. These pieces
originated in improvised recordings which were then taken to Snowghost
Studios in Montana & overdubbed with additional instruments, synths, drums,
bass and organs. They were then edited down over the course of a few months
until becoming a fully realized studio album of carefully constructed and
meticulously composed pieces rooted in music that could only have been
performed spontaneously. Simultaneous Quodlibet was created out of the
spirit of long-term colleagues and friends using the studio-as-instrument
to recreate what they had already created. Warm and complex with a fine
rhythmic shuffle, these pieces are both glowing with surprises emanating
from enduring collaborations and musical companionship."
Malilone - Gina 80/Lions And Pearls 12 inch (Argon) [ARG032EP]
$10.50
"Raised in the Parisian suburb with a background of multiple genres
throughout her life : from rock and newwave to electronic music such as
synth-pop, minimal techno, jungle, house, disco and '90s hip hop,
Malilone's productions have helped express her influences and incorporate
her emotion into the dubstep tempo we all love. Malilone production has
seen support from producers like Matt-U, Von D and Bunzero as well as
featuring in numerous DJ gigs from Paris to Berlin."
Marko
Furstenberg - New World 12 inch (Ornaments) [ORN014EP] $13.25
Marko Fürstenberg presents some melodic, atmospheric, jacking techno for
Ornaments.
Marnie
Stern - Marnie Stern LP (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS516LP] $15.50
Martin
Kemp - What U Got/Fix 12 inch (Blunted Robots) [BLR004EP] $10.50
"To celebrate the 4th Robots release, we locked Martin Kemp in a small room
and told him to make a club smasher like 'Citizens Dub.' A week later, we
let him out, only to find he'd spent his time making more weird house
mutations and sampling tribal men. We wouldn't want him any other way. DJs
showing love include Loefah, Brodinski, Seiji, Jackmaster, Joy Orbison, Ben
UFO and MA1."
Maxmillion Dunbar - Girls Dream 12 inch (Ramp) [RAMP035EP]
$12.25
"Maxmillion Dunbar drops a preview of his upcoming Cool Water LP for RAMP,
with 'Girls Dream' and 2 non album cuts. Pressed on unspeakably limited
blue marbled vinyl, get this quick before it's gone!"
Michel
Cleis - Un Dolce 12 inch (Cadenza) [CADENZA054EP] $13.25
Cadenza once again presents Swiss native Michel Cleis. Featuring two
intricately-produced tracks, and showcasing the contrasting elements of
Cleis' musical fabric, the Un Dolce EP represents the producer's penchant
for uptempo house music and more soulful, restrained melodies. On
"Litoral," brash drum patterns and a barrage of shakers make for a perfect
introduction, before a sublimely-crafted, trumpet-led melody acts as the
perfect backdrop for the harmonious Latin vocal. Unpretentious house music
at its most sincere.
Modeselektor - Modeselektion Vol. 01 #2 12 inch (Monkeytown)
[MONKEY005EP] $11.50
Accompanied by about a dozen ambitious events worldwide, Modeselektor
proudly present the kick-off for their new series of Modeselektions, an
invitation to friends and artists they admire and consider like-minded.
Constantly in search of the next new beat, Modeselektor focus their first
installment mainly on the progression of dubstep's offsprings and related
or unrelated but similar-sounding techno producers in London, Berlin or
elsewhere. Featuring 2562, Shed, and SBTRKT.
Monochrome Set - White Noise - Early Recordings 12 inch (Captured
Tracks) [CT073] $12.00
THE MONOCHROME SET have a huge legacy in post-punk and indie rock history.
White Noise represents the period before their first LP or 7-inch, before
punk really took hold in the UK, in fact. These seven songs from '75-'77
have never appeared on vinyl before this release, and we're thrilled to get
it out there. Monochrome Set have recently reformed for a European tour.
MV &
EE - Hick Smoke LP (Manhand) [MH112LP] $18.25
"This was originally released by COM in an edition of 99 copies on CDR.
Here it is for Manhand's new vinyl campaign remastered and re-edited by MV
in SPECTRASOUND. Comes in a one-side screenprinted / one side paste on with
an insert, bagged. Featuring contributions from The Golden Road (Doc
Dunn/Mike Smith), Jeremy Earl (Woods), Asa Irons (Feathers, Witch)."
Numbernin6 - Garbage/Hunt You Down 12 inch (Subhuman Recordings)
[SUBHUMAN001EP] $10.50
"Essential, essential ,essential! Wreaking havoc globally, NumberNin6's rich
schizophrenic sound enjoys support by international dubstep titans
including Skream, Rusko, N-Type, Plastician, and Bassnectar, as well as BBC
Radio 1 DJ's Mistjam and Annie Mac. NumberNin6 (aka Nishant Parikh) whose
production began in trance scene, is a master of dichotomy who meticulously
fuses stark contrasts -- aggressive vs. mellow, darkness vs. light -- into
dancefloor napalm. 'Garbage' intros with menacing lyrics and a series of
warning bass stabs that evoke a grimey ghetto scenario. After the drop, all
hell breaks loose with a wicked NumberNin6 signature bassline and cracking
snares. This is an absolute dubstep anthem and has done its fair share of
destruction worldwide. For real. Coming with a literal double A-side, 'Hunt
You Down' begins with a haunting flute melody that winds its way up the
mountain, then unloads with a massive barrage of machine gun bass stabs
guaranteed to cause speaker damage and crowd destruction."
Orphan
- Decapitated Lovers LP (From The Nursery) [FTN004] $13.50
From The Nursery is pleased to announce its fourth release, a new album by
Brooklyn sheet metal duo, ORPHAN, titled Decapitated Lovers. Prominent
among the album's nine tracks is a sprawling anthem, "Tarantula Downforce,"
which clocks in at over 8 1/2 minutes, and a cover of "Well Fed F***,"
originally recorded by Born Against. In 2008, Other Music named Orphan's
debut "the most ferocious record of the summer." Two years later, that
damaged intensity continues to drive the cold dark heart of a band called
Orphan. The album features cover art work by GARDAR EIDE EINARSSON, and is
limited to 500 numbered copies pressed on clear vinyl.
Others, The - Off The Wall/Vertigo 909 12 inch (Dub Police) [DP043EP]
$11.00
"The Others continue to move forward with ever increasing strides with no
sign of slowing down, these dubstep stalwarts stand out as true creative
trailblazers. Having travelled the globe with their unique and varied DJ
sets, taking in tours of Australia & New Zealand as well as countless dates
all over the UK and Europe, clocking up releases on leading labels such the
legendary Tempa and N-Type's Wheel & Deal Records along the way."
Pete
Swanson - Feelings In America LP (Root Strata) [RS065LP] $15.75
"Despite asserting that he quit music in 2001..but kept recording in his
basement because it helped him avoid interacting with others', Pete Swanson
has been a very busy guy. As half of (the now defunct) Yellow Swans for
most of the decade, Swanson somehow found the time to collaborate with
scores of folks (see Badgerlore, Maggoted, and Sarin Smoke for starters)
while also slowly carving out his own bleak vision of loner sound. Feelings
In America is the most recent salvo from Swanson, and it's as blown out and
muddy as you would expect from a damp Portland basement. Three tracks of
guitar & vocals lost in a sea of white hot electronic overload that,
according to Swanson, 'sounds exactly like his old band, but funnier in a
depressing sort of way.' Edition of 300 LPs."
Reboot
Joy Confession, The - Spirit Of The Planets 12 inch (Philpot) [PHP048EP]
$13.25
Philpot presents this debut 12" from The Reboot Joy Confession -- brothers
from nowhere! The title track is a mind-bending spiritual journey hosting
the fabulous Dwight Trible on some next-level beatdown extravaganza, while
the flip features the massive disco-no-disco "1999" and the equally-heavy
"Funkin Facets." This 12" is more than a proper statement and the beginning
of the RJC-era.
Sharron Kraus - The Woody Nightshade LP (Strange Attractors Audio
House) [SAAH063LP] $18.00
"The Woody Nightshade takes an amble down a slightly different route along
Sharron Kraus' musical path. Reminiscent of the expanded instrumentation
and compositional arrangements found on The Fox's Wedding (on David
Tibet/Current 93's Durtro/Jnana label, 2008), gone are the traditional folk
tools of the trade, such as the familiar use of banjo and fiddles, in favor
of drums, electric guitar and bass. While that may sound as though Kraus
has 'gone electric', she uses this foray into broader instrumentation as
texture and color, wrapping coarse velvet and splashing subtle earth tones
over her songs. Kraus's signature has always been her distinctive vocals,
and her idiosyncratic siren sound is in top form throughout."
Smegma
- Mirage LP (Important Records) [IMPREC311LP] $16.75
Features a "spontaneous jam" exclusive to the LP. "With Mirage on Important
Records, Smegma again does the impossible. 38 years after reinventing the
musical wheel, they have recorded a stunning masterpiece. With four of the
original members working together again for the first time in many years,
together with many new collaborators, they have kept alive their unique
brand of old school primitive, avant/garage music. Running the gamut from
the 'music concrete' inspired subtlety, the bombastic mood of the title
track, 'world of my own's' frenzied noise/funk jams, that morph past rock'n
[Eno/Roxy Music era] garage band, before finally slipping into a primitive
meditation involving silly voices, toys, record players and such. On the
other hand 'F-85 Turbo Rocket' blasts strait to psycho rockabilly heaven
and is over before it all sinks in. Also worth mentioning, with its
timeless creepy beauty, the front cover drawing/collage sets the stage for
this strange journey. Several of the tracks were recorded 'live' at a
Smegma House Party in Portland September 2009. The CD includes a unique
Smegma house party track and a bonus 1973 original Pasadena unreleased
recording."
Soft
Machine - The Soft Machine LP (Probe) [CPLP4500HLP] $16.00
Gatefold 180 gram reissue, licensed to Universal. "The Soft Machine deftly
combine '60s psych-pop, jazz, and rock into a unique sound that stands up
to repeated listenings more than most music today. The instrumentals are
awesome -- interplay between organ, drums, bass and vocals make for
intricate rockers with priceless moments. Wyatt's lispy voice is
off-putting at first, but endearing on more listens, aided by his clever
and often witty lyrics. Songs like 'A Certain Kind,' 'Save Yourself,'
'Lullabye Letter,' and 'Why Are We Sleeping' are great '60s psych-pop, with
good hooks, but still original sounding."
Standard Tribesmen, The - Waiting/Young Lovers/Luv In A Car 7 inch
(Mt. St. Mtn.) [MTN006EP] $8.00
"What started as the one-man Sores side-project of Julian Elorduy IV
(MAYYORS), Standard Tribesmen solidified as a skronky, rock n' roll 5-piece
(featuring MAYYORS' Chris Woodhouse on bass) that crashed about Northern
California for a couple of years before imploding. Luckily Woodhouse put a
smoldering handful of tracks to tape, three of which are available on this
very limited slab of wax. Packaging consists of a hand-punched outer cover
with a 2 color offset insert featuring artwork by Jay Howell. " "If you
plotted The Sonics, the Contortions, and Feedtime on a graph, the Standard
Tribesmen are somewhere in between that triangle, shading a bit toward the
Sonics' corner." -- DJ Rick
Super
Vacations - Thicker Milk LP (Shdwply) [SHDWPLY018] $15.00
Thicker Milk is the new sprawling, twenty-one song opus which finds the
band, since the release of their self-titled debut in 2008, expanding in
every possible way. Now a formidable five piece, the band's exploratory
psych-surf nuggets are bigger, bolder, more aggressive, and occasionally
darker than before. The riffs are instantly memorable, the melodies
blissfully sloppy and the psych expertly concentrated. Think Captain
Beefheart, Guided By Voices, Kinks and 13th Floor Elevators whizzed up in a
heady audio cocktail of pop goodness. Recorded over the past two years by
the band across various locations, Thicker Milk is a record that dips its
toes in psych, punk, surf, pop and points in-between without ever sounding
nostalgic or dated. Over the course of twenty-one tracks in thirty-five
minutes, the band whittle their precision riffs and ethereal harmonies down
to perfect pockets of sound.
Superisk - Find Your Way 12 inch (Punch Drunk) [DRUNK018EP]
$10.50
"Punch Drunk broadcasts two transmissions direct from the murky depths of
the Bristol underground. Debut 12" from respected underground stalwart
Superisk conjures Shaolin-indebted psychedelic visions of pathways through
austere times. Mensah turns up the heat on the flipside, reimagining the
original's melodics & infecting them with his signature robust high energy
funk."
Supersilent - 10 LP (Rune Grammofon) [RLP3102LP] $20.75
Known as being heavy
on the electronics, they have moved slightly towards a more acoustic
landscape with StÄ~C¥le StorlÄ~C¸kken, treating the splendid Steinway piano
at Rainbow with some great playing.
Members
include: Helge Sten (audio virus, electric guitar), StÄ~C¥le StorlÄ~C¸kken
(grand piano, keyboards), Arve Henriksen (trumpet, electronics).
Supersilent - 11 LP (Rune Grammofon) [RLP3103LP] $20.75
This is the eleventh release in the Supersilent series. These recordings
are taken from the very fruitful sessions that resulted in Supersilent 8
(RCD 2067CD), but are no mere leftovers. Indeed, Supersilent 8 was
originally scheduled as a triple release, but producer Deathprod (Helge
Sten) finally decided to split it. This is also the first vinyl-only
release from the band. Supersilent 8 was recorded during a 5-day studio
session at Athletic Sound in Halden, Norway, the all-analog facility where
other Rune Grammofon albums like Supersilent 1-3 (RCD 2001CD), Scorch Trio
(RCD 2025CD), Luggumt (RCD2040CD/RLP 3040LP) and Raus Aus Stavanger (RCD
2049CD) were recorded. From the monumental hardcore blizzard storm of 1-3
to the elegant electro-jazz of 4 and from the quiet soundscapes of 5 to the
epic 6, Supersilent yet again re-invented themselves with 8, an album that
to a certain degree explored more abstract and mysterious pathways beyond
categories and comparisons. In fact, these sessions turned out to be so
fruitful, that producer Deathprod finished 5 hours of music and at one
point considered making it another triple CD. In the end, 68 minutes ended
up on Supersilent 8, but it was always understood that more of the
excellent music that didn't make it to the final cut would appear in one
way or another at a later time, and indeed, here it is as a vinyl-only
release. This was also Jarle Vespestad's final studio session. This 180
gram audiophile vinyl edition was carefully mastered by Bob Katz and cut by
Paul Gold at Salt Mastering. Members include: Helge Sten (audio virus,
electric guitar), StÄ~C¥le StorlÄ~C¸kken (synthesizers, keyboards), Arve
Henriksen (trumpet, voice, electronics), and Jarle Vespestad (drums).
Tandoori Knights, The - Curry Up LP (Norton Records) [ED363LP]
Thabo
- The Machines 12 inch (Ornaments) [ORN016EP] $13.25
Vinyl only! Thabo and Foster (both members of Soultourist/Drumpoet
Community) bring you some deep Detroit stuff for the next episode of
Ornaments.
Third
Dimension Blues - Maurizio Abate LP (8mm) [8mm041] $25.25
RELEASE DATE: 09-21-2010
Limited to 100 copies with hand printed covers and inserts. Abate's 4th
album is the zenith of his solo work to date. Opening with an acid guitar
and harmonica crescendo, somewhere between the Missisipi Delta and the
desert, '3 dimension blues' turns soon into a free, deep exploration of
the possibilities of Maurizio's instrument. The love he puts on every
single touch of his strings, the warmth and the beauty of these sounds
captured for the first time on an analog tape recorder, reveal the perfect
symbiosis between the man and his music. Heavily psychedelic.
Tim
Toh - No Trace 12 inch (Ornaments) [ORN015EP] $13.25
Tim Toh enters the Ornaments family with a nice, deep and soulful summer
groover with vocals by his sisters Lisa and Jasmina. Everybody wants
sisters like that. On side B, you will find a space-dubby remix trip from
Manuel Tur.
Tokimonsta - Midnight Menu LP (Art Union) [ARTUP004LP] $14.25
RELEASE DATE: 09-21-2010
Limited pressing 11 track vinyl version of Tokimonsta's mind expanding
debut album. Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles,
Tokimonsta (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano.
However, she has come to use this background to create vast textural
soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital
manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Her music is rooted in hip hop rhythms fused
with classic soul, traditional percussion, avant-garde jazz, experimental
electronica, psychedelic rock, and everything in between -- so finding
one way to describe her style is a fool's errand. Through the creation of
beats, she is able to fuse vintage styles with progressive sounds into
something compellingly unique. Though distinctly known as one of only few
female producers in her sphere, her music has come to represent itself,
free of gender context. Toki has been featured regularly on BBC Radio 1,
and turned in one of the standout sets of the weekend at this year's Sonar
festival. Creating genre-bending future music at will, she is also notably
the first female active in the LA-based Brainfeeder crew and took part in
the recent London gathering of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy.
Tom
Demac/Motorunit & Cassique (feat. Nico) - Rivalry With Irony/Black Beauty 12 inch
(Liebe Detail) [LIEBE034EP] $11.50
Manchester-based Tom Demac hands in another winning track for the label.
This is an addictive slice of heavyweight, modern house, fantastically
produced beats and bass push throughout, while dubbed-out synths and a
spine-tingling vocal make this party track really shine. German trio
Motorunit & Cassique's ominous "Black Beauty" features tongue-in-cheek
vocals from British boy Nico. It's a deep, tribal workout -- seamlessly
melting tough house club beats with a Balearic melodic vibe.
Trevor
Wishart - Fanfare & Contrapunctus (1976)/Imago (2002) LP (Pan) [PAN012LP]
$29.25
"Vinyl issue of two very important works by this early British sound poet
and electronic composer, compiling one of Trevor Wishart's first ever
pieces 'Fanfare & Contrapunctus' (from 1976) and one of his latest, 'Imago'
(from 2002), documenting a modern approach in composition and an extremely
unique progress in sound manipulation and music technology. 'Fanfare &
Contrapunctus' (1976): 'These two short pieces were made at the newly
opened electronic studio at the Sydney Conservatorium, before the advent of
music computer technology. The source material derives from free
improvisations by Trevor Wishart and Martin Mayes using 'soft trumpets',
pop-guns, French Horn and virtuoso eating noises, plus recordings of
birdsong and other environmental sources.' 'Imago' (2002) '?the universe in
a grain of sand?' ''Imago' is a piece of magical sound metamorphosis in
which the single 'clink' of two whisky glasses gradually metamorphoses into
a multitude of other sounds, eventually alluding to the sounds of birdsong,
a junkyard gamelan, the ocean and the human voice, but never entirely
abandoning its links to this minimal source. The piece was made using sound
transformation software written by the composer, available through the
Composers Desktop Project, and the original source sound was taken from
Jonty Harrison's 'et ainsi de suite'.' The LP is mastered and cut by Rashad
Becker at D&M, in a limited edition of 500 copies, pressed on 140g vinyl
and comes in a poly- lined inner sleeve. It is packaged in a pro-press
color jacket which itself is housed in a silk screened PVC sleeve with
artwork by Kathryn Politis & Bill Kouligas."

Vakula
- Ring Of Night 12 inch (Best Works) [BWR008EP] $11.50
Vakula is a Ukrainian DJ & producer. In 2007, Vakula released Hohol on
Uzuri and since has gone on to release music for underground labels like
Quintessential, Meakusma and Firecracker. On Ring Of Night, Vakula stays
true to his trademark sound, inspired by Detroit funk. The release also
includes 2 remixes: AndrÄé Lodemann offers a remix to "Ring Of Night,"
bringing a slight Balearic feeling to his house remix while Juju & Jordash
bring an '80s flair to "I Forget."
Various Artists - 10th Anniversary Part II 12 inch (Mindshake)
[MIND0102EP] $11.50
This is the second part of Mindshake's 10th anniversary 12" series.

Tekes & Mario Miranda. Techno from all around. Enjoy it.
Various Artists - Lune Atroce/Soleil Amer 7 inch (Kraak) [K062EP]
$9.50
4-way split from this Belgian label, featuring Ducktails, Köhn, Peaking
Lights and Alien Radio. Housed in a silkscreened fold-out poster sleeve.
"Köhn is Jürgen De Blonde. He has been called 'the godfather of
Belgian electronica'. 'U C I M' builds on the same vibes: trancy and
neo-cosmic. Alien Radio's music follows the tradition of Conny Plank, Delia
Derbyshire, Dick Raaijmakers and Ursula Bogner. 'Gedanke und Ahnung' is
bleepsynthronica sounding like a sketch of a derailed sonic research
project. Peaking Lights are the duo of Indra Dunis (ex-Numbers) and Aaron
Coynes. 'Creatures Of Day Creatures At Night' is pure summer pop. The usual
synths and drumloops made place for fuzzy calypso riffing. Dunis' vocal
romanticism sounds sweet as a Brian Wilson song. Sc-fi soft pop! 'Sprinter'
is a repetitive melancholic pop song, and about the most 'indie' track
we've heard from Ducktails so far."
Various Artists - Fünf 12 inch Box (Ostgut Ton) [OSTGUT007LP]
$75.00
Limited 7x12" box version. Ostgut Ton releases this unique compilation of
music crafted from field recordings made inside the two Berlin clubs
Berghain and Panorama Bar. The concept and original recordings were made by
the Berlin-based producer, Emika. Over a period of two months, Emika
created the recordings in the clubs while they were closed to the public
and edited them into a library of sounds. The library was then given to all
the Ostgut Ton artists, but also to club associates like DJ Pete aka
Substance, Dinky, Cassy, Margaret Dygas, Ryan Elliott and Scuba, using his
SCB alias, to make music with. This release marks the celebration of the
label's five year anniversary. Emika's idea started from feeling the whole
building resonating from the music being played, which led to the question:
which sounds exist here when there is no party? Intrigued by stories of how
the club spaces and sound systems influence the resident DJ sets and
productions, Emika was curious to explore what music could be made from the
building itself. Berghain's sound technicians Krischan Makswitat and Silvio
König helped to record the entire light rig including the strobe lights,
which in itself sounds like techno. Other interesting sources to record
were the large cooling rooms used for storing thousands of drinks in
bottles. The ventilation systems in these rooms make incredible
sub-frequencies mixed with the sound of the bottles vibrating against each
other. The club also contains large swings made from metal which creak and
moan at the slightest of movement. In total, the library comprised over
four gigabytes of sounds, and the artists were not given restrictions on
how to make music from the library. The tracks on this compilation consist
of each artist's signature production aesthetics and feature debut solo
productions by residents Fiedel (one-half of seminal Berlin-based outfit
MMM), Boris and Prosumer's long term production partner, Tama Sumo. All
together, this release highlights the special and inseparable relationships
between the label, club space, and collective of artists. Other artists
include: Marcel Fengler, Nick Höppner, Shed, Steffi, Len Faki, Barker &
Baumecker, Marcel Dettmann, Murat Tepeli (feat. Elif BiÄ~C§er),
Soundstream, Ben Klock, Norman Nodge, and Luke Slater.
Various Artists - Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep 2xLP (Rune
Grammofon) [RLP3100LP] $24.75
Deluxe double LP version, housed in a luxurious 350 gram extra thick
gatefold sleeve. Rune Grammofon celebrates release number 100 with this
quite excellent and suitable collection of tracks from 13 of their esteemed
artists, old and new. When the label started to compile the album and look
at possible track orders, they soon noticed the large number of quiet
tracks they had received, making it closer in feel to a "real" album than a
compilation, and by far the best compilation album they have done. Twelve
tracks are exclusive to this release, including a track by up-and-coming
Rune Grammofon artist Jenny Hval. As with previous compilations, Rune
Grammofon has turned to song lyrics and poems for the title -- this one is
from William Butler Yeats' short but monumental poem "The Second Coming."
Other artists include: Alog, The Low Frequency In Stereo, Ultralyd, Espen
Eriksen Trio, In The Country, Bushman's Revenge, Hilde Marie Kjersem, Stian
Westerhus, Puma, Deathprod, and Supersilent.
Various Artists - You Tore My Brain! LP (Norton Records) [ED362LP]
$13.00
Sixties Garage Acetates Vol. 5. "Clobberin' fifth volume of brutal unissued

and the Commons, mo'!"
Various Artists - Destination 1 2x12 inch (Subway) [SUBWAYDS001EP]
$18.50
"Subway Recordings has been a steady force within the dubstep scene the
last 3 years.. Not only as a label but also as one of the most forward
thinking party crews on the Dutch scene. Some of the leading Dubstep names
have passed through Subway first before becoming the new rockstars of
today. By flexing its sides from deep to hardcore they have been showing
how far the word dubstep bends into multiple angles.. After releasing
quality tunes like 'Missed Calls', 'Unknown Suspect' & especially last
year's hotly tipped 'Seeeriousss' it's certain that this label knows
quality when they hear it. And this Destination compilation has the word
quality written alllll over it.. Ranging from mutant funky/dubstep to
garage combined with some of the grittiest & darkest sounds dubstep has to
offer. Subway once again shows what dubstep is all about. Not clinging to
styles or focusing on sub genres, this compilation is all about 'dubstep'
in every sense of the word." Tracks from Noah D, Akkachar & Taz Buckfaster,
TRG & Matt-U and DJ Madd.
Various Artists - Daddy Rockin' Strong LP (The Wind Records)
[TWR002LP] $14.50
A Tribute To Nolan Strong And The Diablos. "Norton-distributed comp on The
Wind Records dedicated to Fortune Records R&B giant Nolan Strong! Andre
Williams has this to say in his liner notes: 'Hearing these Diablos songs
re-interpreted today just proves how timeless Nolan's music will always be.
I can hear the admiration and respect towards Nolan in each and every
track.'"
Vibracathedral Orchestra - The Momentary Aviary LP (Manhand)
[MH096LP] $16.75

Blind Prophet is proud to present as their first release the highly
anticipated debut single from the Philly based coldwave act Void Vision.

appease the masses with the release of In 20 Years which is just as much at
home amongst classic Depeche Mode or Fad Gadget as it is amongst
contemporary material by artists such as Xeno & Oaklander. However, what
sets them apart from their peers is a keen sense of composition and pop
song structure, and Shari's powerful vocals.Limited to a mere 500 hand
numbered copies, so act fast!
Vulcan
- Meet Your Ghost 2xLP (Lysergic Sound Distributors) [JCP20226LP] $27.25
"Two discs of raw, distorted, overblown fuzzed-out sludge rock by the
eccentric and enigmatic small town, self-proclaimed son of an intergalactic
space traveler who claims to have been visited years ago by the
guitar-playing ghost of Jimi Hendrix. Disc one is the first-ever authorized
reissue of the original Meet Your Ghost album which was originally recorded
in the late '70s. It's been restored and re-mastered here. Disc two is a
collection of 11 previously unreleased tracks that were recorded before the
original Ghost album These tracks had literally been lost for more than
eight years. These new tracks have also been restored and re-mastered and
contain almost every kind of guitar effect, feedback and sound imaginable,
not to mention Vulcan's eerie 'alien message' and spooky backward masking
effects. A very heavy and raw bit of garage rock with some bizarre
psychedelic effects. One of a kind! This double album is housed in a
spectacularly re-designed psychedelic gatefold cover with lots of
never-before-seen photos of the reclusive Vulcan. Also includes a separate
insert of a mind-blowing interview with Vulcan himself! Limited to 600

Bernard Purdie - Lialeh LP (Light In The Attic) [LITA003LP]
$18.25
Deluxe gatefold LP version. "Light In The Attic proudly presents a deluxe
reissue of the Lialeh soundtrack, the first major black porn movie and the
final word in soulful shagging music. Bryan Records released this Shaft-era
classic in 1974, and since then it's been harder to find than a honky in
Harlem. Legendary drummer Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie composed, produced and
performed Lialeh's score, while between projects with Curtis Mayfield,
Aretha, Gabor Szabo, The Last Poets, The Rolling Stones, James Brown...
Music fans have long looked to Lialeh for seven original Purdie tracks, his
first as writer/composer, untempered by the A&R's who guided his records
for Flying Dutchman, Date, Prestige and Mega." On 180 gram vinyl; includes
liner notes by Egon of Stones Throw and photos from the film.
Bonniwell Music Machine, The - The Bonniwell Music Machine LP (Warner
Brothers) [WS1732HLP] $13.50

successful single "Talk Talk," Sean Bonniwell's renamed project released
this self-titled album for Warner in 1967. A fully-amplified garage
excursion into realms of psych, prog and folk, featuring classic tracks
"Double Yellow Line," "Bottom of the Soul" and "The Eagle Never Hunts the
Fly."
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Lick My Decals Off, Baby LP
(Reprise Records) [RS6420CLP] $13.00
Tangerine-colored vinyl reissue, manufactured by Rhino. 4th album,
originally released in 1970, following Trout Mask. "Vast scholarly
dissertations could be written on Beefheart's brilliant new approach to
song lyric. Leaving in the dust both post-Dylan 'poetic' pretensions and
the primitive approach which too often mistakes simplemindedness for
simplicity, Cap's lines are magic flashfloods of free-association that
somehow never get murky, strange jewel-like clusters of images, hilarious
little vignettes from the lives of raffish louts and juicy mamas,
half-muddled mamma's in coveralls and zoot suits. Robert Crumb could draw
them, though in his vision they'd be vaguely threatened or threatening...
In Lick My Decals Off, Baby this vision is extended, and even though the
sonic textures are sometimes even more complex and angular than on Trout
Mask, the lyrics have taken an added universality, many of them stepping
back a stride from the kaleidoscopic image-clusters of last year's songs.
Lick My Decals Off, Baby is just great bawdy music, as sanguinely sexual as
a tale out of Boccaccio." -- Lester Bangs/Creem, 1971.
Cymande - Second Time Round LP (Janus) [JLS3054HLP] $13.50
Gatefold 180 gram exact repro reissue, originally released in 1973. Cymande
scored a major hit with the 1972 single "The Message," but they mastered
their unique fusion of Afro-beat, soul, reggae and British funk on this
second album. Crowned with the groove classic "Fug."
Dictators, The - Bloodbrothers LP (Asylum Records) [6E147HLP]
$13.50
180 gram exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino. Originally released in
1978. Third album from the band Steve Van Zandt called "the connective
tissue between the eras of the MC5, Stooges, New York Dolls, and the punk
explosions of the mid to late '70s." Includes the track "The Minnesota
Strip," later ripped off by Danzig.
Dictators, The - Manifest Destiny LP (Asylum Records) [7E1109HLP]
$13.50
180 gram exact repro reissue, manufactured by Rhino. The second album,
originally released in 1977, from "one of the finest and most influential
proto-punk bands to walk the earth" (John Dougan). Tracks include
"Exposed," "Science Gone Too Far," "Heartache" and a cover of the Stooges'
"Search And Destroy."
Gil
Scott-Heron/Brian Jackson - Bridges LP (Arista) [AB4147HLP] $13.50
180 gram exact repro reissue, originally released in 1977. "Gil
Scott-Heron, Brian Jackson, and the Midnight Band take a slightly different
approach with their 1977 effort, Bridges. With less of the gaping and
world-infused sound prevalent on previous albums, the songs are more
concise and Scott-Heron comes into his own as a singer depending less on
his spoken word vocal style... the excellent songwriting exposes
Scott-Heron at the height of his powers as a literary artist. The social,
political, cultural, and historical themes are presented in a tight funk
meets jazz meets blues meets rock sound that is buoyed by Jackson's
characteristic keyboard playing and the Midnight Band's colorful
arrangements. Scott-Heron's ability to make the personal universal is
evident from the opening track, 'Hello Sunday! Hello Road!,' all the way
through to the gorgeous '95 South (All of the Places We've Been).'" -- All

the Jose Feliciano show, even stealing a cameo in the ultimate hippie
movie, Easy Rider.
Kool &
The Gang - Music Is The Message LP (De-Lite) [DE2011CLP] $13.00
Blue-colored vinyl reissue, originally released in 1972. "Kool & the Gang's
fourth album -- but only their second studio record -- was just as strong
and joyous as its live predecessors, though it featured a few more vocals
and emphasized strong musicianship over hard grooves. (Of course, the band
always did pretty well at both.) The title track and 'Love the Life You
Live' were two more great party jams to add to their repertoire, despite
the growing similarity of Robert 'Kool' Bell's basslines. The two-part
'Electric Frog' was a squelchy instrumental spotlighting an Arp synthesizer
and some great ensemble playing on the chorus, while the band reserved a
great feature for trumpeter Robert 'Spike' Mickens on 'Blowin' with the
Wind.'" -- All Music Guide
Kool &
The Gang - Wild And Peaceful LP (De-Lite) [DEP2013CLP] $13.00
Red-colored vinyl reissue, originally released in 1973. The band's
