Erkin Koray - Meħhul: Singles & Rarities CD (Sublime Frequencies) [SF067CD] $14.75
Erkin Koray and Sublime Frequencies are pleased to present this collection of rare tracks and lesser-heard singles. All tracks were recorded and released in Turkey between 1970-1977 and culled from Koray's personal vinyl collection. Includes exclusive photos and remastered audio. What more is there to say about Erkin Koray? An iconic guitar and songwriting genius. A voice of gold. Having founded the country's first-ever rock and roll group in 1957, he is regarded worldwide as the father of Turkish rock. Forging Western sounds with his own inimitable musical mastery, he self-produced singles and LPs throughout the 1960s and 1970s that shook and altered Turkish society. Erkin didn't stop at rock and roll. Over time, he began to find inspiration in folk sounds from Turkey's Anatolian interior, and radio broadcasts received from Egypt and Lebanon. He looked to the East from his West-leaning Istanbul perch, and began incorporating these sounds into his own work. This amalgamation was as unprecedented and unorthodox in Istanbul at the time as rock and roll itself had been in the 1950s. The resulting hybrid sound ignited what became known as the Arabesque music movement in Turkey -- which continues to this day. While Erkin has recorded and performed tirelessly throughout the years (both as a solo artist, and with the powerful groups he formed), his extensive back catalog only began to be explored by the international community in the 1990s. He is now recognized as one of the foremost global leaders of psychedelic, folk rock, pop and balladry. His music has stood the test of time more than many of his Western contemporaries and influences have managed to, and his prolific work ethic has not ceased. He continues to live and breathe music, performing epic concerts, and continuously plotting new recordings and strategies. His vision and integrity, coupled with his pronounced world views and inherent musical greatness, have made him the unique and magnificent living legend he is today. This collection features tracks not found on the many unauthorized Erkin compilations and LP reissues that have emerged in the West over the years. Ranging from the sublime to the surreal, these tracks offer an essential glimpse into the extensive repertoire of the great Erkin Koray. --Mark Gergis, July, 2011

Omar Souleyman - Haflat Gharbia: The Western Concerts CD (Sublime Frequencies) [SF068CD] $14.75
Omar Souleyman is a folk-pop singer from rural northeastern Syria. Like many Syrian musicians, he made his name as a singer for wedding parties in the region, with hundreds of cassettes and CDs documenting his performances distributed throughout the country. These, along with several studio albums, earned him legendary status in the Syrian dabke scene throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. After his 2005 breakthrough folk-hit "Khataba," Omar gained wider recognition throughout the Arab world. After collecting his tapes for a decade, Sublime Frequencies released the first compilation of Omar Souleyman tracks to be distributed in the West. The success of Highway To Hassake (SF 031CD, 2007), and the enthusiastic online reaction to the promotional clip for his track "Leh Jani," led to Omar being invited to tour the UK and Europe in the summer of 2009. It would be his first time performing or travelling outside of the Arab world. He and his group, comprised of two longtime collaborators -- Rizan Sa'id on keyboards, and electric saz player Ali Shaker -- set off on a six-week Sublime Frequencies tour with label-mates Group Doueh. By the end of 2009, Omar had proven that his unique and charismatic delivery of Syrian electrified folkloric dabke, Iraqi choubi and Arabic shaabi had the ability to appeal to the most diverse of Western audiences. His success has continued, with further tours throughout Europe, America and Australia drawing rave reviews and leaving a trail of fervor across the globe. The rise of Omar's success has transcended the wedding halls and cassette stalls of Syria and slipped into Western popular consciousness. Despite there being no shortage of musical talent in Syria, dabke and otherwise, Omar Souleyman is the first Syrian musical export to have won the hearts of Westerners and Arabs alike on this scale. His trademark checkered khaffya, sunglasses and elegant jalaba are not uncommon male attire in the Arab world, but for years in the West, it is that exact image which has been excessively demonized. Perhaps one of the most striking achievements of Omar's rise has been watching that iconic image transformed from comic book villainy to something positively regal. The recordings on Haflat Gharbia: The Western Concerts, Omar Souleyman's fourth release on Sublime Frequencies, represent an hour of the best moments from the Western tours between 2009 and 2011, captured in striking fidelity and intensity. Fans will recognize familiar songs, as well as previously-unreleased material presented here for the first time, in what is the biggest sounding Omar record yet. Compiled and recorded by Mark Gergis.

Balkansky - The Temple CD (Ohm Resistance) [OHM025] $10.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-27-2011
Bulgaria's prolific Ivan Shopov is known under a plethora of aliases, and here he presents his second album under his dubstep/brain dance music guise: BALKANSKY. Currently appearing every weekend in Europe, this is his manifesto for Mind, Body, Soul and Spirit. With guest appearances from Scorn, Enduser, Loop Stepwalker, and a remix of a Badun original, Balkansky offers a journey of epic proportions through the realm of the slowed down beat. Intelligent synth work meets a sense of melody and structure from the unique perspective of a Bulgarian more interested in nature and moutains than dancefloor domination -- yet he dominates, handily.

The album is a full spectrum of the Balkansky sound -- from the gentle opening of his remix of Badun's EF10 to the punishing floor shaking of Mraked, the album also features guitar instrumentation (Rock the Block), and centers around the vocal title track -- a shapeshifting affair, into and out of electromechanical angles with a effortless evenness. Scorn puts in a mandatory must-hear appearance on Pollution. The album closes with the appearance of Ohm Resistance mainstay Enduser, a jump off leaving every listener wanting more and wondering where the advanced musical craftsmanship of Ivan Shopov will take them on the next listen.

Barn Owl - Lost In The Glare CD (Thrill Jockey) [THR280CD] $13.75
"Lost in the Glare is Barn Owl's second album for Thrill Jockey, and follows quickly on the heels of their acclaimed 12" EP Shadowland. Like Shadowland the album was recorded to tape by Phil Manley in San Francisco's Lucky Cat Studios. Lost in the Glare is made up of material composed over the course of a year and recorded in sessions throughout the winter of 2011. At the heart of the album's sound is the dual guitar interaction between Caminiti and Porras, a spiraling web of interlocking gestures that give way to bone rattling, monolithic progressions and dusty drifts. The mostly finger picked guitars weave in and out of each other in precise movements that recall the hypnotic influence of American minimalists. The harmonium that was prevalent on previous recordings has been replaced on Lost in the Glare with the undulations of a Farfisa organ. The songs here are deep, cosmic excursions. Rich in dynamics, the record possesses a transcendental tone through both a densely layered combination of electric and acoustic instruments and walls of melting amplifiers and feedback alchemy. The lines between strict structure and ordered chaos blur as third-eye opening e-bowed drones explode like beams of light and corrode into crumbling distortion, baking tones that sizzle like brittle bones left in the desert sun."

Benni Hemm Hemm - Skot CD (Kimi) [KRCD030CD] $14.75
Benni Hemm Hemm is an Icelandic band led by Benedikt H. Hermannsson. His band is ever-changing, so you can regularly hear Benni Hemm Hemm perform solo or as a trio or a ten-piece band with horns and electric guitars, and occasionally the band expands to ridiculous sizes and reaches numbers like 40 or 50, when the band collaborates with symphonic orchestras and choirs. For Benni Hemm Hemm's latest album, Benedikt decided to rely solely on the magnificent band Retro Stefson, who played the whole album with him in Sundlaugin, Sigur Rijs' studio in MosfellbĦr, Iceland. Skot is Benni Hemm Hemm's fourth LP and here he shows a different side of his songwriting and arrangements as well as recording and production. There's no brass at all, there are lots of electric guitars, keyboards and harmoniums and harmonicas. In every way, this new album is a departure from the previous ones, towards a playful sound and surreal yet serious lyrics, which feature thoughts on vegetarianism, fighting authority, kings and troubadours of medieval France, death, and the joy of life, to name a few of the lyric subjects. Skot is entirely sung in Icelandic. One might think that for the vast amount of people in the world that have for some reason not learned Icelandic, this would be a problem, which it really isn't. Firstly, because translations for the lyrics can be found on Benni Hemm Hemm's web site, www.bennihemmhemm.com, and secondly, because this is music, and music has no language barriers. And who understands lyrics anyway?!

Boats - Cannonballs, Cannonballs CD (Kill Rock Stars) [KRS548CD] $16.25
"Boats makes music songs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Sometimes their songs are about fictional performing duos that have holes in their bodies and/or have a belief that they will one day give birth to a flock of birds. Sometimes they are about winning the Superbowl and finding buried treasure. Often they are about failure and death. A noisy indiepop band with high-end hopes but low-end equipment, Mat Klachefsky's bizarre vocal chords mixed with his infectiously catchy pop songs and boundless energy have been freaking out audiences ever since they released their critically acclaimed first album Intercontinental Champion to local audiences in October 2007. Since then they have embarked on several North American tours, played packed houses at SXSW, NXNE, Pop Montreal, Halifax Pop Explosion and Sled Island, and charted solidly all across Canada."

Boston Spaceships - Let It Beard CD (GBV Inc) [GVBI15] $13.25
ROBERT POLLARD has called the epic double-LP Let It Beard "a subconscious concept album about the sorry state of rock and roll." A 75-minute thrill ride through the many forms Pollard has mastered in his three-plus decades of writing and recording, it's "the White Album meets Quadrophenia meets Jesus Christ Superstar," in his words. "Meets Same Place the Fly Got Smashed," adds guitarist CHRIS SLUSARENKO. Let It Beard features strings, horns, keyboards, a female soul singer and guest turns from such luminaries as COLIN NEWMAN (WIRE), J MASCIS (DINOSAUR JR.), STEVE WYNN (DREAM SYNDICATE), MICK COLLINS (DIRTBOMBS), DAVE RICK (PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH) and MITCH MITCHELL (GUIDED BY VOICES). LP includes a download. No exports to Japan.

Bronnt Industries Kapital - Hard For Justice CD (Get Physical Music) [GPM028CD] $10.75
2009 release. Revolving around Bristol, UK-based producer/multi-instrumentalist Guy Bartell, Bronnt Industries Kapital has spent eight years exploring deep frosts of electro-acoustic melancholy, slow-burning sonic terrain and uncharted detours into the absurd. Hard For Justice, however, will blow away any lingering preconceptions with a phallic flourish of a Colt 45. In open homage to the spirit of '80s Hollywood vigilante cinema, low-rent sci-fi, Italian fright flicks and the music of Goblin, Neu! and Giorgio Moroder, this eight-track suite is precision-engineered to unleash endless horror on the dance floor. Hard For Justice is front-loaded with an arsenal of synth-funk bullets that fizz with thrilling John Carpenter electronics ("An Index Of Corporate Art," "Knights Of Vipco," "Streets Of Fury"), low-end motorik finesse ("Objects & Purpose") and HI-NRG Giallo-disco pulsations ("S.T.R.Y.K.E.R.").

Caina - Hands That Pluck 2CD (Profound Lore) [PFL082] $12.00
In recent years, a number of bands in the black metal underground have experimented with post-rock / shoegaze elements-most notably Alcest and Amesoeurs. However, the UK's CAINA has been melding the two genres since the group's mid-'00s inception as a primitive, raw, one-man black metal project, well before the style was recognized as a burgeoning movement. Caina is the work of ANDREW CURTIS-BRIGNELL, who conceived of the band in his late teens; his unique vision has been described as a mix of Burzum, Mogwai and The Red House Painters, or as if 4AD, Mute, or Matador had released a black metal album. A prolific musician, Curtis-Brignell already boasts a number of releases under the Caina moniker, including the critically acclaimed albums Mourner (2007) and Temporary Antennae (2008), both on Profound Lore. Hands That Pluck is Caina's most ambitious work to date. Epic, progressive and visceral, it is a culmination of years spent developing an idiosyncratic sound. Assisting Curtis-Brignell on the album are three guest vocalists: LORD IMPERIAL from cult black metal band KRIEG, RENNIE RESMINI of hardcore group STARKWEATHER and CHRIS ROSS of BLOOD REVOLT / REVENGE / AXIS OF ADVANCE fame. Though Hands That Pluck is priced as a single CD, it includes a bonus disc titled Old Songs, New Chords featuring reinterpretations of four classic Caina tracks, remastered versions of the originals, and a Nico cover. No exports to Canada or the UK.

Charalambides - Exile CD (Kranky) [KRANK158CD] $13.00
"Exile is the new Charalambides album. Five years in the making, it was recorded between 2006 and 2010 in various locations in New Hampshire, western Massachusetts and New York City, mixed at Black Dirt Studios, and mastered at Sand with Paul Gold. The group remains the core duo of Christina and Tom Carter, with contributions on one track by the string section of Helena Espvall and Margarida Garcia. Deeply imbued with the full historical spectrum of American folk and blues song form, Exile is a tapestry of suppliant invocations directed at the heart of the unseen spiritual forces surrounding us. Dense arrangements and thickly-overdubbed tracks sit side-by-side with material that ranks among the sparest and most skeletal the group has recorded, giving Exile the psychic scope of their classic Market Square album while building on the refinements of the more recent Likeness and A Vintage Burden releases."

Current Value + Donny - Revolt & Riot CD (Ohm Resistance / Guerilla) [GILLACD01] $10.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-20-2011
Current Value & Donny are two of Europe's stalwart producers of the most technologically advanced Drum n Bass music. With a career stretching back to the beginning of the Position Chrome (Germany) label, Current Value has re-invigorated himself by placing himself at the forefront of drum production - strange stereo mappings, thickness without losing speed or firepower, and a great sense of the hypnotic snare drum attack. Donny is one of the UK's standout drummer - drum programmer converts, bringing a half time attack and hyperreal drum sounds to the table.

A long awaited release and the first artist album on Ohm Resistance offshoot label Guerilla, "Revolt & Riot" has been 4 years in the making, with such much-desired tracks as "Therapist VIP", "The Feast" and "Ten Tonne Hammer". Joining the fray are Silent Killer and Breaker on remix duty, exclusive to the CD release, and South Africa's most wanted, Counterstrike. As damaging as a fragmentation grenade, this album is designed to splinter conscious thought, and the remaining pieces spell the birth of the revolution.

Cuttooth - Elements CD (Psychonavigation) [PSY045] $14.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-20-2011
Cuttooth aka Nick Cooke is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne however he's originally from Northumberland. 'Elements' his debut album manages to perfectly join the dots between downtempo beats and dubstep which can be enjoyed equally in a club or in the stoned privacy of your living room.

In his own words Nick says : The idea behind the album was that I'd come off the back of doing the Forcefield Kids stuff I was doing I then decided that other people are far too unreliable to work with so decided to make a solo record. I went back over some old beats, heavily edited them, changed them around and made them into coherent instrumental tracks. That gave me the first couple of tracks. From there I just went on and wrote a ton of stuff and developed the better things into proper songs. I really loved Los Angeles by Flying Lotus and though I'd been making weird hip-hop beats for years I never really felt part of that scene. I was always basically a little bit disappointed with the lack of effort a lot of hip-hop producers put into their beats and always felt that it was possible to do something more, which is why when I heard that record and the records that I found through that I was like 'This is what I want to do'. Just concentrating on really pushing what I perceived that hip-hop beats could do, experimenting with some really loose rhythms and trying to f*** with people's perception of time and groove a little bit. It came out alright.

Dsl - Stupid Bitches 12"/PIC DISC CD (Ed Banger Records) [BEC5772549] $12.25
2009 release. DSL present their second 12'' for Ed Banger Records, Stupid Bitches, which defines their sound better than ever and affirms their personality among the Ed Banger roster. The title track doesn't sound like a love song, but it's DSL's way of saying "I love you" to the ladies. A pure zoukadisco tune. Remixes are provided by DatA for the perfect sunset soundtrack and Rynecologist with a more booming version. "J'm'en Bats Les Couilles" could be a #1 hip-hop hit.

Emma Yai - Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totems CD (Cold Spring Records) [11696] $15.25
40 minutes of dense astral emanations and magickal paradigms transmitted through the ritual mantras generated by Emme Ya. Emme Ya Atavistic Dreams & Phallic Totem is based on the mysterious African Dogon tribe and their secret oral tradition. In the 1930s two anthropologists gained their trust enough to be told these remarkable secrets. The Dogon seemed to possess advanced astronomical knowledge beyond their means, without any instruments. They revealed that the star Sirius was orbited by the smallest and heaviest of all stars and drew its elliptical orbit, which spans 50 years. This white dwarf (Sirius B) is so invisible that the first image was only obtained by scientists in 1970. But the Dogon also told of a third star in the system named Emme Ya (now Sirius C). This was only discovered in 1995 and only with the use of advanced infrared imaging. The Dogon say that their information was given to their ancestors through contact with beings from the star system of Sirius, calling these beings Nommos or the monitors of the universe.

Erode - Horizon CD (TYMPANIK AUDIO) [11716] $14.50
Originating as guitarist for the popular German metal band Heaven Shall Burn, Alexander Dietz now protrudes from the opposite side of the music continuum to bring Tympanik Audio listeners his debut electronic album Horizonunder his pseudonym Erode. Contrasting from one end of the music spectrum to the other, Alexander creates a vast and truly massive collection of electronic works with respectful nods to such artists as Beefcake, Access To Arasaka, and Gridlock. Here is the epicenter of Dietzs vast inspirations, morphing into many forms, with a frayed tether of influences whipping and pulsing with stark realization. With massive washes of ambiance as a backdrop, Erode injects immense, complex beatwork and memorable, seizing melodies into every orifice of Horizon. Fluid throughout, each piece of Horizon virtually sings with substance, seducing every delicate layer of sound into a natural state of bliss. A dark, dreamy, yet beat-driven collection of music that ebbs and flows naturally as a heavy tide, crashing against a stone wall on a deserted beach at night. Recorded and produced by Alexander Dietz with addition production by Mike Cadoo (Bitcrush, Dryft, Gridlock, n5MD) and mesmerizing artwork by Colin Marks (Rain Song Design).

Ex_tension - Desert CD (Tympanik Audio) [11714] $14.50
Tympanik Audio and Ex_Tension invite you to revisit the Desert EP, fully remastered including 2 unreleased bonus tracks and a stunning remix collaboration of the original Desert track by Access To Arasaka, Totakeke, Zentriert ins Antlitz, Geomatic, and Sonic Area. With a nostalgic grip on early rhythmic Industrial styles, Ex_Tension injects a modern and mesmerizing complexity into their sound that seems to perfectly harness the adrenaline and cerebral contrast that continues to captivate their listeners.

Forrest Fang - Sans Serif: Unbound CD (Projekt) [11711] $15.25
Unbound is veteran ambient musician Forrest Fang exploring lush and abstract terrain under the Sans Serif moniker. Using very small - at times microscopic - sounds as source material, Fang utilizes a vocabulary of long shimmering tones that gradually warp, mutate and transform over the course of a piece. Fang explains, "The Sans Serif project is my tribute to minimalism. For each piece, I have stripped sound down to certain tones and sonic elements that reappear, with variations, on a much larger scale. The processed elements are the 'clouds' in each piece's landscape that gradually shift from one end of the landscape to the other." On Unbound, Fang takes the Sans Serif concept one step further by creating a series of extended soundscapes, each with its own distinct personality and mood. The varied atmospheres range from incandescent ("A Silver Season") to dark ("Lost Oracle"). Though rooted in abstraction, at times the music possesses an almost luminous physicality. The pieces on Unbound contribute to an unhurried organic flow that culminates in the multi-textural closer, "Tone In Alium," a piece loosely inspired by Thomas Tallis' 16th-Century polyphonic work, "Spem In Alium." Unbound is Fang's 10th solo album, 3rd Projekt release and 2nd release from Sans Serif. Not surprisingly, Sans Serif's first release, Tones for LaMonte (Hypnos, 2008), was a tribute to minimalist composer La Monte Young. Throughout, the subtle psychoacoustics invite headphone listening, but its grand scale may perhaps be best appreciated over speakers.

Glenn Jones - The Wanting CD (Thrill Jockey) [THR271CD] $13.75
"Glenn Jones, a 30+ year devotee of the so called 'American Primitive' school of acoustic steel string guitarists, has been playing guitar since the age of 14. The Wanting, Glenn Jones' first album for Thrill Jockey, was recorded in a fourth floor apartment on Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, overlooking the commuter train line. If you listen carefully to the record, you can occasionally hear trains going by in the background. Reuben Son recorded the album between December 12, 2010, and April 20, 2011. The Wanting was mixed and mastered by long time collaborator Matthew Azevedo. Simply put, The Wanting is a collection of original compositions for solo acoustic steel string guitar, six-string, 10-string and bottleneck, and 5-string open-back banjo."

Goatvargr - Black Snow Epoch CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR126CD] $15.75
The second unholy union of Lord Nordvargr (MZ.412, Folkstorm, Toroidh, etc) and Goat (USA). The first covenant of Goatvargr was baleful, lycanthropic and lethiferous. A rejection of the techgnostic kingdom and circuitry idols which seduce our era. The downfall of light has brought a world of coldness. This Black Snow Epoch is a time to honor our forbears such as MZ.412 and the elements of flesh, wood and alchemical steel. Industrial loops and analog keyboards merge with sheet metal and chains to create a solemn winter hymn where the cold steel stings your flesh. The wolf instinctively hunts through the frost, and the goat is blamed for human transgressions, yet during the Black Snow Epoch, the true hunters will pursue. Presented in a jewelcase with foldout poster cover.

Grey Reverend - Of The Days CD (Motion Audio) [MO004CD] $15.50
"Grey Reverend performs his songs primarily as a soloist, using acoustic guitar and voice to convey his music to his audience. The devilish detail within the songs creates flashes of allegory in which familiar sentiments simultaneously comfort and unnerve the senses. Compelling and positively ambiguous, with reverence for the grey, undefined areas of style, his songs are unconcerned with musical or social expectations. They sit completely outside of time and fashion, the simplicity and honesty of his voice enough to carry them."

Haujobb - Dead Market CD (Tympanik) [11692] $12.50
After an lengthy hiatus, Haujobb triumphantly returns in 2011 with a brand new single EP titled Dead Market to kick off their forthcoming new album ~New World March~. Brimming of deep basslines, addictive vocals, and stunning reworks, ~Dead Market~ introduces a new chapter in the Haujobb saga with stark ferocity and undeniable depth. Hard, unstoppable beats meet caressing deep basslines and dirty electro rhythms, married with a fierce undertow of complex synthlines and surging atmospheres, perfectly matched with Myers forceful and provocative vocals. With 8 outstanding tracks in all, Dead Market interjects a new volume in the Haujobb legacy, resiliently cohesive to their signature sound, yet gazing well beyond the future of their dark, beat-driven and complex brand of electronic music. Dead Market features 2 new tracks by Haujobb plus outstanding remixes by The Horrorist, Exes, Nomenklat Paul Kendall (Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode producer), and Absolute Body Control. Letting The Demons Sleep (Nightmare) by Haujobb

Iron Fist Of The Sun - Behavioural Decline CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR116CD] $15.75
Originally released in 2009. Personal obsessions skewed by drug use, codes of behavior observed by a misanthropic mind. Bitter and cold. Nihilistic and scornful. Elitist and pure. Behavioural Decline documents the rise of treachery and the fall of honor. Power electronics that sonically take inspiration from electro-acoustics and ideology akin to black metal/black noise. A deeply personal recording. For fans of Prurient and Sutcliffe Jugend.

Kinder Scout - The Writing Life CD (Preco) [Preco0112] $14.75
As the old saying goes, "the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts". And the whole - being Kinder Scout - is quite an uber collaboration by three amazing talents (Jason Corder, Ian Hawgood and Danny Norbury) who are, each in their own right, already a whole.

The real link between the three is Craig Tattersall, which is why it's really special and beautiful that he's given his time and talent to come up with such amazing artwork for this release. Another common link is Miles Whittaker, whose mastering skills have not only made Danny's own album sound as if it were recorded somewhere much more expensive than his bedroom, but The Boats records as well.

Danny first encountered The Boats and their music at a festival in Salford, but it was much later that he began working with them musically, via their extraordinary mutual friend, Michael Holland (Ono Records). At some point Craig gave him a release that he'd put out on his label, Mobeer. It was Color Cassette 'Small Town Smoker', which to this day remains one of his favourite records. He'd also been working with Library Tapes on his album 'Sketches', that Ian re-released as the inaugural Home Normal; so, that was the start of his friendship with Ian, whom he got to know properly and become dear friends with when The Boats toured Japan in 2010.

Ian first got in touch with Craig about releasing his EP 'Phonetics and Fiction' on his favorite label, Moteer/Mobeer. At some point Craig also gave him Color Cassette 'Small Town Smoker' which also remains one of his favorite records. It wasn't until he'd looked at the credits properly that he realized Color Cassette was the work of the very same Jason Corder he had been in contact with since they'd had releases following on from each other on Christian Roth's excellent Berlin label, Resting Bell. Since then Jason and Ian have been working together, and Jason has released on all three of Ian's labels - Home Normal, Nomadic Kids Republic and Tokyo Droning - under his offthesky and Juxta Phona monikers. It wasn't too long after Ian and Jason started working together that they decided to work all together, which turned out so well they decided to form Kinder Scout.

All these little connections between people living on different sides of the world have contributed to the release of 'The Writing Life'. Thank you.

Krazy Baldhead - Sweet Night 12"/PIC DISC CD (Ed Banger Records) [BEC5772451] $12.25
2009 release. Krazy Baldhead presents 4 tracks for Ed Banger. He has remixed the noisy duo dDamage, the funky duo Outlines and met the Brooklyn rapper TES, signed on Lex/Warp. TES also featured on "Crazy Moth3f2ck8z," a track from Krazy Baldhead's second EP Dry Guillotine, which confirmed Ed Banger's hip-hop turning point. Just like SebastiAn, Justice or DJ Mehdi, Krazy Baldhead has become one of the mainstays of the label.

Les Paradisiers (Thoms Nola + O Paradis) - Bazaar Creatures CD (Disques De Lapin) [11718] $10.25

Machinedrum - Room(s) CD (Planet Mu) [ZIQ307] $13.25
The electronic cognosenti have always admired TRAVIS STEWART, whether it be for his solo releases as MACHINEDRUM or for his work in Brooklyn-based duo SEPALCURE (Hotflush Recordings). After a break from producing, Stewart resurfaced in a major way last year with the Many Faces EP on Glasgow's LuckyMe label. However, for his latest album on Planet Mu, he's well ahead of the curve, approaching recording in a way he's never done before. On Room(s), Stewart's productions turn the 160 BPM footwork conventions inside out, filling the usually fierce, stripped-down form with elegant, sun-kissed and impressionistic songs built from R&B, autotune and dance music history's most exuberant stabs and kicks. Like the early post-rave sounds of ambient jungle, his beautiful new kind of high-speed, detail-packed mutant pop is psychedelic, exhilarating and strangely relaxing with its fast-paced washes of synths and drums. No exports outside North American or Japan.

Matthew Dear - Body Language 7 CD (Get Physical Music) [GPM025CD] $10.75
2008 release. Matthew Dear's eagerly-awaited Body Language mix is a very personal selection, and one which reflects his own artistic interests, concerns and strategies. In a sense, he approached the project literally, seeking to explore aspects of both the "body" and "language" in his selection and ultimately achieve a marriage of the two. Matthew's celebrated 2007 album Asa Breed was remarkable in its organic synthesis of vocals and house grooves, and that same synthesis lies at the heart of this mix; if you listen carefully, you'll hear that every track featured on Body Language 7 employs a vocal or "language" of some kind -- some explicit and pronounced, some broken down or indistinct. Meanwhile, the mix's rhythmic default is one of sinewy, dancefloor-aimed 4x4 grooves, "body" music at its purest and most devastating. Artists: Dinamoe, Kalabrese, Sascha Dive, Samuel Davis, Kid Sublime, Johnny D, Martinez, Diz, Johnny D, Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia, Radio Slave, Prompt, DJ Koze, I:Cube, Soulphiction, Two Armadillos, Seth Troxler, Patrick Russell, Even Tuell, Basti Grub and Lorenzo.

Melamin & Wicked Sway - Metamorphosis CD (Ohm Resistance) [OHM024] $10.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-06-2011
Metamorphosis' is easily the most technically impressive electronic release on Ohm Resistance since our inception, the halfway-round-the-world duo of Melamin (Novosibirsk, RU), and Wicked Sway (West Virginia, USA) have put together a mind erasing trip through their world of NEURODUB: a direction in bass music defined by the adaptation of the neurofunk drum n bass mid-range action, welded to the 140 bpm tempo and ironclad stepping beats. From the opening salvo of Bullet to the massive dancefloor moving rips of Double Line to a stopover at the neurodub Checkpoint, this album is not only chockfull of advanced technology beat&bass weapons, it moves into heretofore unseen territories -- making it a no-brainer for Ohm Resistance to champion this sound, album, and new direction.

Merzbow & Z'Ev - Spiral Right/Spiral Left CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR133CD] $15.75
In the planning (and many faxes, emails and discussions in person) for 20 years, finally this stunning collaborative release for Cold Spring from Japanese noise king Merzbow and legendary elemental sound artist Z'ev is here. The tracks were created in London and Tokyo, with each artist remixing the other's original sounds. Two tracks weighing in at 22 minutes and 28 minutes, respectively! Dark ambient noise in a special textured card digisleeve.

Mirror Mirror - Interiors CD (Rvng International) [RVNGNL009CD] $13.50
"Mirror Mirror, the New York based duo of David Riley and Ryan Lucero, bring their avant-pop explorations to RVNG Intl. with the release of Interiors, the ten-song follow up to their debut album, The Society for the Advancement of Inflammatory Consciousness. Recorded in two parts, Interiors features the production work of Chris Coady (Beach House, Gang Gang Dance, Zola Jesus), who helped realize an expansive sound from Mirror Mirror's home-studio recordings. The other album half, aided by Joshua da Costa's monstrous and metronomic live drumming, was produced by Thomas Asenault and Zeljko McMullen at So Many Fields. Interiors deals in themes of secret societies, escapist fantasies, and psychological extremes. 'Sublime Objective' opens the album in the mind's eye of an adventurer attempting a daring mountain climb. 'Under the Sun' rollicks under ray-baked guitars until it's split in two by a cameo from SSION frontman Cody Critcheloe. 'Dot Dot Dot' mutates an R&B midi-bass line, before 'Sick City' tours an underworld of nightwalkers and plastic shamans. The acid-inflected 'Starseed' adapts a futurist Timothy Leary lecture, promising listeners 'bread and dope for a thousand years.' Album namesake 'Interiors' describes a recluse who shuts out worldly distractions, while the stringed cavalcade of 'Open Wide' leads to new psychedelic pop pastures. The album closes with 'Overpower / Overjoy,' an industrially flourished, whip-cracking serenade of sorts. Following Society's 2008 release, Riley and Lucero toured the US & UK while pursuing a variety of related art projects. Some of those pursuits included a series of group workshops at Momenta Art, multimedia performances at The Kitchen and Saturday Sessions at MoMA PS1 with Tamaryn, and contributions to K48 and DIS Magazine. Mirror Mirror also partook in a FRKWYS experiment on RVNG Intl., collaborating with post-punk pioneers Stuart Moxham, Alig Fodder, Stuart Argabright, and Rico Conning."

Mz.412 - In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas Luciferi Excelsis CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR136CD] $15.75
1995 bore witness to the resurrection of nefarious Swedish horde MZ.412 (previously manifest as Maschinenzimmer 412) -- Nordvargr, Drakh, Ulvtharm and Shaitan. This ground-breaking, genre-defining album saw the inventors of "black industrial" blur the boundaries between black metal, ritual industrial, dark ambient and power noise. In Nomine... captures the darkest sides of Satanism, death and ritual sacrifice -- an enduring, blasphemous statement of True Swedish black industrial. This remastered version features two previously unreleased tracks ("In Ritual Of Blood And Oath" and "Infinite Hollow"), alternate versions and all new artwork. Just under 74 minutes of music housed in a matte digipak with spot varnishing.

Nde - Krieg Blut Ehre Asche CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR110CD] $15.75
2009 release. Debut from this Belgian duo. Like the dark, solitary figure which adorns the cover, NDE are shrouded in mystery and desolation. No web site. No Myspace. No contact details. The music speaks loudly and across the centuries. A unique smelting of malevolent, noisy black metal, pounding, anthemic martial drums and wretched death industrial in eight acts.

Nickolas Mohanna - Reflectors CD (Preservation) [CIRCA511CD] $14.00
The Preservation label presents the second album from New York's Nickolas Mohanna. Also working as a visual artist, Nickolas draws unique forms from the wealth of sounds found in New York's complex sprawl and imbues them with feeling and subtlety. The sounds on Reflectors buzz with rich detail and rhythmic interplay for a work alive with beauty and mystery in its atmospheric reach. Previously living in San Francisco for a number of years, Nickolas studied with noted electronic composer Bob Ostertag, whose use of sampling and tape manipulation informs his own work considerably. Thinking of Reflectors' pieces as "tone poems," Nickolas juxtaposes field recordings with guitar and synthesizer treatments to refract the natural world through sci-fi vision. Finding the ground between the concrĨte and cosmic in summoning a curious, compelling aura throughout, Reflectors is a fascinating step in exploratory music's ongoing dialogue between now and then. Reflectors is the fifth and penultimate work in the limited edition CD series from Preservation called Circa for 2011. Only 300 copies of each release in the series will be available, featuring a design by Mark Gowing. Each design for 2011 will be realized using a specially-created abstract alphabet of shapes, determined by artist, title and catalog number for something both fixed and random. Circa will return in 2012 with a new design model. Mastered by James Plotkin.

Normotone - Inward Structures CD (Tympanik Audio) [11715] $14.50
Normotone now joins the Tympanik Audio family to present his debut album Inward Structures. Each track featured on Inward Structures has its own story, while remaining an integral part of a cohesive album. Under the predominantly raw layers of cold electronica, heavy basslines, and glitchy rhythms, listeners can identify classic industrial influences ranging from, but not limited to cold wave, folk, rhythmic noise, and contemporary dark ambient music with a sonic edge. A collaborative effort among well-renowned artists including KL (Stigma, Neon Cage Experiment, KL), Neon Rain, One Droid And Its Man, Punish Yourself, Polygon, and more, results in a polymorphic effect of sorts.

Nuearz - Face Lift CD (Skam) [SKALD026CD] $14.00
Skam proudly announces the second full-length album from the mysterious artist Nuearz ("new ears"), entitled Face Lift. The front sleeve image is taken from a small film piece and appears courtesy of Swiss photographer Chantal Michel, "Oh, wir haben viele Wļnsche" (Video, 2005).

Palace of Worms - Forgotten CD (Flenser) [FR01CD] $8.75
The Forgotten is a step into hateful black metal orthodoxy. In this second release PALACE OF WORMS' only member BALAN shits on the post rock influence that drenched his first release The Decaying Despot presenting a more straightforward thrashed manifesto of self hatred which in moments regresses into the more rocking territory normally occupied by European bands like Watain.

Proyecto Mirage - Slaves of Capital CD (Ant-zen) [11707] $19.25
all tracks by alicia h.willen and francisco planellas except nicht: lyrics, vocals & vocal processing: paolo greco [notes from underground] with 6 full-length albums, one lp, remixes for various artists and countless appearances on numerous compilations proyecto mirage have made a name for themselves and take their firm position in the present industrial music scene. after a break of three years, they return with 'slaves of capital' - a truly fine example of experimental drum 'n noise core. the spanish duo deliver an excellent album with extremely explosive techno-industrial, complemented with classic ebm, hardcore techno, 80's electropop and contemporary electronica components. right after track one all bets are off and you are stuck in a realm of solid beats and sounds to kick your butt - either you survive or get the hell out of their way. proyecto mirage's musical concept definitely has more variation and inventive usage of elements than the most in the genre: repetitive hammering kick drums, rubbery bass power, blasting beat structures, buzzsaw synths and noisy sound layers unite with disturbing electronic experimentation and strong analogue textures. when the phrase harsh rhythmic electronics is mentioned this project should be at the frontal lobe. always keep in mind: proyecto mirage is not just an illusion but a concrete reality!

Psychobuildings - Psychobuildings CD (All Hands Electric) [AHE14] $9.75
After releasing two killer singles last year NYC's PSYCHOBUILDINGS unveil their first 12-inch record in EP format. Just shy of 20 minutes this slab of vinyl showcases the band's already unbeatable dance numbers as well as some finely constructed psychedelic trance inducers heard previously only in their much buzzed about live set. Balancing New Romantic synth explorations with the beat boxing lyricism of Old School Hip-Hop Psychobuildings have come up sounding fresh in delivery and style. Front man PETER LABIER brings the guts back into pop with a feel for groove and and an ear for hooks. His spirited vocals recall legendary post-punk singers like Robert Smith and David Byrne while his frenetic dance moves would make the King of Pop smile. Produced by hit making sound engineer PETER WADE and fleshed out by the synth wizardry of PETER SCHUETTE and multi-instrumentalist JUAN PIECZANSKI, the self-titled EP fires on all cylinders from start to finish. "...a smoldering summer jam full of infectious bass line and funky synths. Think early !!! or, to go even further back, ESG. LaBier's vox is also at the center of this thinking man's party, as he delivers one of his best dance rants yet."-Sky Report. CD edition of 1,500, 12" edition of 400.

Pursuit Grooves - Frantically Hopeful CD (Tectonic) [TEC011CD] $15.75
Pursuit Grooves' Frantically Hopeful continues rhythmically where 2010's Fox Trot Mannerisms EP left off, but launches into a different head space with lyrics touching on current affairs and technological dependency. Juggling all angles from production, songwriting, MCing and singing, Pursuit Grooves continues what she does best, fusing elements of hip-hop, house and broken beats with sensual melodies and vocals. Armed with an analog four-track cassette recorder, drum machine and years of studying her grandmother and aunt on the piano, Pursuit Grooves began her first productions at the age of 16, and never looked back. A demo in the right hands landed her track "Push Up" on Rush Hour's Beat Dimensions collection, alongside some of the brightest up-and-coming electronic artists around the world, and following three mostly instrumental albums on her own What Rules label; Fun Like Passion, Wild Art Forestry, and Sustainable Movements For A New Age, she signed with Tectonic, releasing Fox Trot Mannerisms to great acclaim in 2010.

Raoul Sinier - Guilty Cloaks CD (Ad Noiseam) [ADN146] $16.00
Raoul Sinier's fifth full length album sees this musician surprise us again, and tap on his experience to offer an album in which tracks have become songs, tricky arrangements leave room for melodies, and, most of all, vocals are brought to the front stage. A seductive work, "Guilty Cloaks" stays deeply rooted in this artist's twisted and falsely naįve imagery, but approaches its listener in a much more humane and communicative way, mixing electronic composition with subtle song-writing, maturity and excitement.

Rebecca Clamp - Key to The City CD (Folkwit Records) [f0055] $14.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-20-2011
Rebecca Clamp's second release with Folkwit Records, Key to the City, is a love letter to Clamp's neighbourhood in Helsinki, but you don't need to have been to Finland to appreciate these songs about love, fragility and finding home. As with her debut album Nocturnal Leap (2005), her lyrics delight in the small-great things in life: parasitic wasps, a special bookshop, and a bearded female saint all make colourful appearances here. The album features performances from Franka Oroza (FEW), JP Cavonius (Flannelmouth, Scaramangas and Treehouse), and Alex Reeves (Dizzee Rascal, EZIO) amongst others.

"With free-flowing literacy, she paints somewhat beautiful song-pictures of an elegant romantic world of delicate intense emotionâ~@¦There's a particular sense of an artist crafting from nothing something refined and softly vital, not a reflection of the world but a sculptured microcosmos: an elaborate, softly contoured but emotionally real dreamworld..." -- Rychard Carrington, Rock'n'Reel

Roedelius - Wasser Im Wind CD (Bureau B) [BB069CD] $16.00
Of all the Hans-Joachim Roedelius solo releases, this is the one which most closely resembles the work of Cluster. Wasser Im Wind sees Roedelius use a wide variety of musical and sonic ingredients hitherto associated with Cluster, almost as if he sought to erect a monument to the group. Right from the word "go," the familiar sound of the Drummer One rhythm machine can be discerned on the opening track, like a wood gnome crashing his way through the shire; then we hear those hand-played, swirling keyboard patterns so typical of Roedelius; his drifting melodies, with no beginning or end, gone before one has barely recognized them; synthetic sounds recalling the heroic era of the mid-'70s; and occasional glimpses of the shadow of Dieter Moebius as sounds and forms emerge from his cosmos. Might one suggest that Roedelius recorded a Cluster album all by himself? No, absolutely not! The astute listener will note how effortlessly Roedelius performs his balancing act on Wasser Im Wind. The album captures Roedelius on the threshold of something quite new to him. On the one hand, the electronic elements he utilizes recall the Cluster virtues he knew so well, on the other hand, he is already experimenting with a wealth of baroque forms which will come to influence his playing in the future, particularly with regard to the piano. So Wasser Im Wind is no longer the past, nor is it quite the future. Piano features prominently on this LP, but has not yet taken center stage. By inviting the saxophonist Czjzek to join him on three album tracks, Roedelius manages to confuse matters splendidly, as two seemingly incompatible musical notions meet head on. Nevertheless, Roedelius' spirit floats above these waters as well, transforming the listener's initial irritation into baffled amazement. Another successfully conducted experiment!

Rubella Ballet - Never Mind The Day-glo CD (Overground) [OVER123CD] $13.25
Twenty tracks from the band's most successful period. Includes the albums If and At The Rainbow and the singles 42f and Arctic Flowers, all digitally remastered and packed in a 12-page booklet designed by SID and ZILLAH.

Sehnsucht - Wļste CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR124CD] $15.75
Former Mayhem front-man Maniac, whose band Skitliv has proved to be a surprising departure from the black metal genre for which he was best known for over 20 years, has formed a side-project with fiancé Vivian Slaughter, bass player/vocalist with the Japanese all-girl band Gallhammer, Skitliv's guitarist Ingvar Magnusson and experimentalist Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound). Unlike Skitliv, which is a noise/doom amalgam, with Maniac's vocals still firmly rooted in black metal, Sehnsucht is in the noise/darkwave/ambient genre, with any vestiges of black metal pared away. Housed in a 6-panel digipak.

Sensational Meets Koyxen - Sensational Meets Koyxen CD (Skam) [SKALD027CD] $14.00
Skam Records present an album from Sensational and Koyxen, recorded in Berlin, Osaka, Japan and Brooklyn, NY in 2009-2010. Sensational (formerly Torture) debuted in 1993 on Jungle Brothers' J. Beez Wit The Remedy, then busted out a strong solo with 1997's Loaded With Power, a maverick, lo-fi piece of speaker-wrecking bass, chest-caving beats, and gruff, marble-mouthed self-aggrandizement. Koyxen aka Kouhei Matsunaga grew up in Osaka, Japan listening to hardcore techno and rap and studying architecture. He started to make music back in 1992 focusing on the experimental. Kouhei has worked with artists such as Merzbow, Asmus Tietchens, Conrad Schnitzler, Autechre's Sean Booth and Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic), Max Turner and Paul PM (Puppetmastaz). In 2006, Koyxen and Sensational made Sensational Meets Kouhei on WordSound, and this album is meant to be volume 2 in this remarkable collaboration.

Serengeti - Family And Friends CD (Anticon) [ABR0111] $13.25
SERENGETI's first solo album for Anticon finds him upbeat, on point and full of swagger. The multifaceted Chicago emcee streamlines his approach for Family & Friends, taking a breather from the knotty, introspective raps of his recent past and making one of the most enjoyable, clear-headed records of his career. It's a fresh look that features a couple of debuts as well. WHY? frontman YONI WOLF is responsible for roughly half of the beats herein, while the rest come from by ADVANCE BASE, aka OWEN ASHWORTH, officially marking the rebirth of the bedroom pop producer formerly known as CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE. Over their just-right mix of spare musicality and lo-fi propulsion, Serengeti splits the difference between humor and moodiness, maintaining loads of style throughout. Themes of overcoming and escape appear throughout Serengeti's oeuvre, but Family & Friends embodies them best. The album offers an alternate take on the hefty concerns that come with the day-to-day, but most importantly-and all too often unlike its titular subjects-it's damn well easy to love. LP includes digital download coupon. No exports to the UK/Europe or Japan

Sewer Goddess - Disciples of Shit (Live Waste) CD (Malignant) [11708] $13.50
Having sold out of last year's With Dirt You Are One CD within a few months span, supreme, Boston based cultists Sewer Goddess return to Black Plagve with Disciples of Shit: Live Waste, a fetid and raw collection of live audio crimes committed over a two year period from 2009-2010. Anyone who has witnessed Sewer Goddess live will generally know what to expect here, which is a more structured take on the death industrial, squalor filled atmospheres they're known for. A more traditional band format adds layers of distorted and skuzzy bass, crashing percussion, and discordant guitar and meets head on with terrifying, blood curdling screams and the requisite churning mass of post mortem, electronic dirge. 5 tracks, most previously unreleased, that represent Sewer Goddess in the most raw, unclean, and unpolished of states....as if you'd want them any other way! In 6 panel digipak, designed by Andre Coehlo (Sektor 304). Track listing: Condemned Are the Unborn, We Ate Their Eyes, Mother Agony, Chained to the Edge of Existence/A Lifeless Dreaming, Slavepiece.

Shady Bard - Trials 2CD (Forest Industries) [FOR001] $17.25
Following a limited edition pressing last year, the album now receives a full scale release this August, complete with a set of orchestral variations and arrangements entitled 'Retrials'. The original low-key release wowed the folks at Drowned in Sound who proclaimed Shady Bard 'one of the most singular bands of their generation' whilst Artrocker called the album 'gorgeous'. The songs have since caught the attention of Steve Lamacq who described them as 'dramatic' and 'very engaging', whilst an ever-increasing amount of praise, airplay and sessions have come from the likes of Chris Hawkins, Gideon Coe, Janice Long, Jo Good and Huw Stephens. Their latest single, Night Song was performed live on Radio 4'sLoose Ends, leading to the remarkable milestone of being played on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 4 and 6music in the space of just one week.

The band's music has drawn comparison to the likes of Nick Cave, Tindersticks and Mercury Rev, as well as the postrock atmospherics of Sigur Ros and the evocative harmonies of Low.Founded in Birmingham six years ago and now based in London, the band built a cult fanbase through a series of limited edition, handcrafted releases and extensive touring across the UK.

Skullflower - F***ed On A Pile of Corpses CD (Cold Spring Records) [11694] $15.25
The most remorseless, brutal Skullflower ever! Alternating between granular lo-fi primitive rock and granular lo-fi primitive Power Electronics, this taut disc is a chain mail glove of hate to any lazy minds who've tainted the air with describing Skullflower as 'psychedelic'. But that's not to say this is an all out total assault. There are also moments of tender acoustic balladry, its just that they don't exist. The remorseless brutal sound is primitive, but as detailed and rich as a blood soaked medieval canvas, somewhere betwixt The Rita and Clandestine Blaze, but more brutal! Long live the New Flesh! Kether is in Malkuth, Malkuth is in Kether, but in a different way...

Snippet - Slowly Slowly Catchee Monkey CD (Folkwit Records) [f0060] $14.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-20-2011
Snippet is London born / Colchester based Johnno Casson with a little help from Dutch producer Wim Oudijk. Casson cut his teeth as lead singer of trip hop pioneers Deep Joy, working with the likes of Andrew Weatherall (Primal Scream), James Lavelle (UNKLE) and Adrian Sherwood (On-U-Sound).

BBC 6 Music favourite Snippet has released 4 EPs between 2008-2011 that have garnered a great deal of critical acclaim and airplay. The debut album 'Slowly Slowly Catchee Monkey' is delivered with a keen understanding of how to present modern electronica-fueled pop music in an original and devastatingly appealing way. Add to this splashes of folk & funk, this album offers light & shade that delivers on a number of levels with a refreshing and unique take on what life has to throw at you.

This is a melting pot debut of the observational and biographical with hooks to die for; yet scratch their surface and you'll find these are songs chock full of character and substance.

If you fancy something cheeky, squeaky and quite uniquey then throw on your shades, pull up a deck chair and dip your toe in!

"Dry of humour and lo-fi of sound, the skewed pop of Colchester's Snippet is reminiscent of early Beck." - Q Magazine

"Snippet; A National Indie Treasureâ~@¦.one of my all time favourite introducing artistsâ~@¦splendidly eccentric" - Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music

"Made us laugh a lot, touched a nerve, we love it." - Rob da Bank BBC Radio 1

Steve Roach - Live at Soundquest Fest CD (Time Room Editions) [11709] $16.00
Steve's pinnacle performance from 2010's SoundQuest Fest proved to be a real moment in time, and fortunately it was documented with a high resolution recording that places the listener front and center on that special night. Presented as a single CD, the first 74 minutes of the concert are experienced as it unfolded. Three distinct realms are seamlessly mapped out in this inspired set. The opening starts with a 25-minute piece of perpetual forward motion in the mode of DESTINATION BEYOND, created specially for the concert, carved from pure analog synths and sequencers. From here we experience an amazing interplay between didgeridoo players Dashmesh Khalsa, Brian Parnham, percussionist Byron Metcalf and Steve performing real-time looping, processing and mixing along with soundworlds, ocarina and voice. This passage is an all-out expression of shamanic ecstasy that boils over into the engulfing tribal trance state of "Thunder Walk" from the recent release DREAM TRACKER. The last portion of the set settles into an ultra drifting electro-organic zone. This evocative space, which premiered at the Fest, would soon evolve into the opening of IMMERSION FIVE - CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS.

Steve Roach & Erik Wollo - The Road Eternal CD (Projekt) [11710] $15.25
Following their collaboration Stream of Thoughts (Projekt, 2009) Roach and Wĸllo reunite to travel The Road Eternal: an electronic/ambient path filled with passion and beauty. Six engaging and expansive rhythmic sequencer-based tracks intersperse with ambient zones and soaring electric guitar textures highlighting sparse, arching thematic lines. Wherein their first collaboration blended a number of shorter passages into a spellbinding whole, The Road Eternal is six longer compositions that build upon a basis of complex, inventive and hypnotic sequencer patterns. Intricate and ever-changing rhythmic cycles merge with melodic phrases creating a compelling groundwork that propels the music forwards. With inspiration drawn in part from classic trance-inducing electronic music with early German roots, the project takes on an interwoven structure draped with harmonic and melodic passages. The route through the music offers different perspectives to hear or "see" on every listen. This is the sound of big skies, open roads and soaring thoughts pulling one towards the next destination; reflected in the music is the counterplay of long and meditative rythmic zones and constellation-like melodic elements filled with space. The tracks transpose two different worlds: Steve's southwestern desert habitat and Erik's home base in Norway. The sum of these two environments becomes a hybrid landscape of new discovery. "We are both passionate about the observation of nature and the poetic character of natural surroundings," Erik says, "The ways in which we relate to this, as well as the awareness of the ongoing passage of time. These ideas have been a driving force behind our whole artistic careers, and it is strongly reflected in this collaboration." "In our music," Steve reflects, "a central pulse and steady momentum is present. The sensation is a consistent feeling of travel. Whether you're driving, flying, riding a train or some other form of transportation, the sound and vibration enters your body and becomes part of the meditation of the travel experience. Listening to these tracks while traveling allows the music to merge with the experience arriving at an integrated place where thoughts and imagination are unified as a soundtrack for one's own road movie. The metaphor of 'the road eternal in the creative process' is the other element of the album title: the road the artist travels with the allure of discovering what is next around the corner." The project began in early 2010 and shifted into high gear when Erik traveled to Tucson that fall to perform at the SoundQuest Fest. After the concert, the two artists holed-up in The Timeroom Studio for a few days channeling the energy from the fest to work non-stop towards The Road Eternal's completion. Roach states, "This is the music I have wanted to create with Erik since I first heard his classic Traces release way back in the 80's." With Steve on analog sequencing, electronic percussion and most of the zones and atmospheres, Erik focuses on his processed, textural, and melodic elements while performing on various guitars and guitar synthesizers. The Road Eternal strikes a perfect balance of the artists' two distinct styles and common ground. The sound is vibrant, emotional, full of shimmering light and saturated with optimism. With each artist having devoted over 30 years to their art, this album flows with the understanding and skill that comes from this experience, bringing their specialties together in the true spirit of collaboration.

Sun Ra - This Planet Is Doomed: The Science Fiction Poetry of Sun Ra Book (Kicks Books) [KICKSSR] $13.00
" This Planet Is Doomed, which collects the science-fiction poetry of Sun Ra, exploded into the stratosphere on 7/7/11, an auspicious day for numerologists and doomsday enthusiasts alike. 7/7 coincides historically with the detonation of 20 kiloton Little Feller II, the first of the last four above ground nuclear warhead tests conducted in the US. The date will also evidence interstellar overdrive when Saturn, Pluto, Uranus and Venus form an intense and rare alignment known as the Cardinal Grand Cross. This Planet Is Doomed serves up a traumatic torrent of future shock--deeply personal and critical commentary and unsettling advice to the people of Earth, who fail to acknowledge this planet's role in the universe. Poet Amiri Baraka's estimable foreword, together with science fiction historian Bhob Stewart's revealing introduction, set the stage for the heavy dose of the real and the unreal, which are delivered in the pages of This Planet Is Doomed. This book was collected from tape recordings and transcriptions culled from the Sun Ra Archives by director Michael Anderson, who worked with Norton Records to compile a total of six albums--three collections of rare and unissued music recordings (on LP and CD) plus a trio (vinyl only) of unissued spoken word Sun Ra LP's. A collector's edition 45 of I Am Strange is also available. This Planet Is Doomed was expanded with the addition of several key 'lost' poems which appear here for the first time."

Syntaks - Nachtblende CD (Parallax Sounds) [PS21] $16.00
RELEASE DATE: 09-27-2011
Hailing from Denmark, Syntaks aka Jakob Skott and Anna Celilia previous releases with record labels like Benbecula, Darla, Ghostly International, Morr Music have all been great pieces of musical works in themselves and so is the musical projects they been involved in with the likes of Jonas Munk of Manual and all. This latest offering on Parallax Sounds Records is perhaps the broadest ranging Syntaks album to date. It is a massive effort in terms of both style and length, cultivated over the past three years. Nachtblende is the fully realized scope of two danish lover's vision. A vision far removed from the minimalist design and grey skys of Scandinavia. On the masculine side you got your wall of feedback guitars, swirling arpreggios and dead-pan dusty quater-time beats -- all rising, crackling and disappearing into the hemisphere. But what brings the creative counter spark is the muted piano, haunted acoustic guitar picking and wordless soprano sighs of Anna Cecilia. If making picturesque or cinematic music seems like a concept of the past, Nachtblende is an attempt to rewrite history on it's own terms. Forging a gap between overdriven circuitry and minimalist ambient repetition, Nachtblende moves through the past 30 years of music in it's own unique path.Drawing on the milestones of Brian Eno & Steve Reich, as well as the Bibio / Takoma-styled folk guitar playing, the ambient textures of Syntaks doesn't stop there - film composers Ennio Morricone, Popol Vuh and John Carpenter flutters through the sonic architecture of the album as well. And then there's the full scope of multi-layered psychedelic pop and kraut-rock as well as the muffled shoegaze-esque cacophony of sounds, so expect similarities to artists like Boards Of Canada, Cocteau Twins, M83, My Bloody Valentine, Seefeel, Slowdive, Ulrich Schnauss etc. In the end everything is forged together in a phat inseparable synthesized mix, that is as delicate and fragile as it is dense and ear-shattering. The seemless mix of the turbulence on the surface and the pressure from the bottom is what makes Syntaks an uninhibited display of vibrant emotions, conjured by it's creators inner lives. The german word Nachtblende is an aberration of the day-for-night filter previously used to taint movies shot during daytime into an illusion of night, also known as La nuit américaine (The American Night).

Tenhornedbeast - Hunts & Wars CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR130CD] $15.75
TenHornedBeast's third album for Cold Spring was recorded from 2006-2009. This album introduces subtle changes to the established THB sound with delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism. "Hunts & Wars" progresses the established THB sound using leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire. Influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany. "Hunts & Wars" seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a 6-panel digipak (with spot-metallic finish) designed by graphic designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room) to its full grotesque glory. The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps we are swept

The Big I Am - Collecting Skies CD (Folkwit Records) [f0054] $14.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-20-2011
"The Big I Am have been knocking around the Liverpool acoustic scene creating a ripple of fuss for some years now, but never would I have expected such a debut album of poise, strength and the most vociferous magnificence.

At the heart of the band is a trio of ukulele, quatro and keyboards but what elevates this project above what is already undeniably good is its rich orchestrations courtesy of co-producer, Wim Oudjik. Band and producer have found a symbolic collaboration that every musician dreams of. Suddenly everything is inspired, like electricity crackling with charge. The Big I Am sound absolutely confident and joyful in their creativity.

Collecting Skies could be the soundtrack to snows melting and spring emerging. Songs open like a new dawn breaking and hang like blossoms from fragile branches of beauty; then they grow and grow until they are bursting at the seams with catharsis. If you listen to this album, be prepared to have your heartstrings plucked and stroked until you ache with joy and any cynicism you harbour is utterly defeated. Be prepared to be lifted." ***** - Eddy Cooney, Rock'n'Reel

"â~@¦subtle, melodic and mysteriousâ~@¦I love itâ~@¦sounds like Peter Gabriel and Steve Reich having an acoustic jam." - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio

"â~@¦the feel of a band flirting on the fringes of greatness." - Neil King, FATEA

"â~@¦lovely...fair warms the cockles of the heart." - Russell's Reviews

Thor Harris - A Post Apocalyptic Tale Of Friendship Book+CD (Monofonus Press) [MF033] $12.00
Monofonus Press is proud to present the second IF series release by the godly THOR HARRIS. The book is a collection of drawings that were done during a year plus of touring with Swans, Shearwater, and Bill Callahan. The music was made much quicker than that. MORGAN COY made the music with Thor. ROB HALVERSON of Tree World Recording, recorded the stuff and mixed it. It's a twisted package of goods. "The Grotesqueries populating Thor's riveting visions are as beautiful as they are monstrous. It's a warped beauty that can only come from someone who's able to stare into a pit of despair and spot a glimmer of light."-Jordan Zivitz

To Destroy A City - To Destroy A City CD (n5MD) [MD192] $12.25
RELEASE DATE: 09-27-2011
The debut self-titled album from Chicago-based trio To Destroy A City is an album ripe with slow-burning ambience, pulsating rhythms, and soaring guitars. Often building on a theme, the band weaves together pleasing melodic passages, creating compositions that are trance-inducing in their simplicity, yet layered with significance. The uninitiated may find To Destroy A City analogous to label mates Lights Out Asia and port-royal, and, due to some periodic drifting into similar spaces, the wide-screen ambient guitar duo Hammock. Such comparisons stem from the tools To Destroy A City use to convey their message; reverb drenched guitars rub against lofty synths and live drumming entangles itself into deliberate and palpitating electronic beats. This is highly emotive stuff not without its epic moments that can bring a chill to the listener. A debut this seemingly thought out is a rarity and To Destroy A City make it sound as effortless as it is beautiful.

VHS Head - Trademark Ribbons Of Gold CD (Skam) [SKALD025CD] $14.00
Skam presents a full-length album from Blackpool recording artist VHS Head. A collage of vocals, melodic splatters and stop/start rhythms grind against industrial soundscapes and atmospheric backdrops, while basslines and mutated guitar hooks grab the listener for a very enjoyable ride. The name Trademark Ribbons Of Gold was a reference to the pre-cert era of video tapes. A "pre-cert video" is any videotape issued in the UK before the introduction of the 1984 Video Recordings Act. Pre-cert videos were not required by law to be submitted to the BBFC so the era was unregulated, leading to many uncut releases of videos which would have fallen foul of the BBFC's strict guidelines. Some of the smaller independent companies decided to take advantage of this by issuing "strong uncut" versions depicting graphic violence and gore. A whole barrage of titles previously banned by the BBFC from getting a cinema release suddenly ended up uncensored on home video. This was the true golden era of home video.

Wicked King Wicker - God Is Busy...Save Yourself CD (Cold Spring Records) [CSR125CD] $15.75
2009 release. Wicked King Wicker is pure doom. Their brand of guttural expression strips away the rock n' roll base and leaves nothing for the listener than the caustic reality of the darkest side of life. It is heavy, barbaric and void of hope. Wicked King Wicker has taken the power of doom metal and added noise to the mix to make its point. God Is Busy... Save Yourself is their sixth album, and their first released outside of the U.S. Wicked King Wicker is unique, and their extreme doom stands alone as the heaviest, most brutal doom imaginable and it may take you places you don't want to go.

Wim Wenders - Pina: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD (Wenders Music) [DG001CD] $14.75
The soundtrack to the film Pina for Pina Bausch by Wim Wenders (to be released in North American theaters in Dec 2011), containing 15 tracks from the successful 3D movie. Most of the music is from the productions of Pina Bausch's dance company, featured in the movie. Songs composed especially for this movie by Berlin musician Thom Hanreich add to this versatile concoction. Wim Wenders' love for music can be perceived in all of his movies -- this time around it is no different. Especially with the sounds from Pina Bausch's dance company which predefined the choice of music: "Music plays a highly important part in all of Pina's pieces. And music was certainly one of the reasons why I felt so well sheltered inside them, so much at home," says Wim Wenders. The soundtrack Pina portrays a cross-section of this musical variety. The compilation presents a range of artists such as Jun Miyake (Japan), Lisa Papineau (France), Hazmat Modine (USA), Owain Phyfe & The New World Renaissance Band (USA), Germano Rocha (Canada), René Aubry (France), Amon Tobin aka Cujo (Brazil), The English Chamber Orchestra (UK), and Thom Hanreich (Germany). It comprises a mix of different music styles, featuring artists maybe not known to all of the listeners. The soundtrack will be sure to awaken memories of many compelling movie scenes. Wim Wenders emphasizes that the music Pina Bausch chose is one of yearning. The director states: "We shared a similar taste in music. Whether in blues, in fado, or in Latin-American music, but also in popular German music, this yearning, this deep longing is predominant." Many fans have been yearning for the music from Pina.

Wooden Shjips - West CD (Thrill Jockey) [THR279CD] $13.75
"It is easy to see why these would appeal to Wooden Shjips, as their music lends itself to exploration. It is both transformative and transporting, the sum being far greater than its parts. The steady driving rhythms are the elliptical motion machine driven by the often thick and distorted guitar lines, melodic and boundless. Where they may lead cannot be anticipated but following them is exhilarating. It is all about getting there, the destination, while the experience of getting there is an adventure. It is the guitar lines that guide both the listener and the band on the literal and metaphorical journey into the vastness. The ghostly vocals, obscured by dense layers of instruments surrounding them, are alluring with their airy mystery. This elusive quality further draws the listener in, while they attempt to grasp at their meaning. While indebted to both the psych music of the '60s and mid-'70s, electric Neil Young, and even the induced travels of Spacemen 3, the Wooden Shjips' music is modern and in every way their own. West is an epic journey to the edge and beyond."

Wormskull (aka Bong-Ra, Deformer And Balazs Pandi) - Sound Of Hell CD (Ad Noiseam) [ADN1442] $16.00
First, Wormskull is an all star band formed by Bong-Ra, Deformer, Balazs Pandi and Eni-Less. But it's also a full frontal sonic assault that taps from years of experience in the metal and electronic scenes to come up with a high-energy, moshpit-packing devil of an album. Don't believe what you were told: it's not a team of Soviet scientists who recorded the sounds of hell, but a quartet of angry, experienced musicians who love their metal dark, their beats punishing, and their atmospheres abysmal. Heavy riffs, complex drumming, electronic arrangements that have their roots in Bong-Ra's breakcore: Wormskull is nothing for the weak of heart.

Anni Hogan - Mountain DVD+CD (Cold Spring Records) [11695] $21.00
Mountain' is an artistic collaboration between musicians Anni Hogan, Robert Strachan and Itchy Ear, film maker Bob Wass and mountaineer Cathy O'Dowd. Hogan and Itchy Ear originally worked on a series of piano pieces inspired by Rene Daumal's 'Mount Analogue' and the superior wisdom of mountains, using O'Dowds Himalayan conquests for particular authentic inspiration. Robert and Anni used these pieces and the Himalayan peaks as a template for painting a soundwave soundscape around the piano compositions. Cathy has supplied all the photographs for the album sleeve, beautifully edited by Abby Helasdottir, and Cathy has performed a fascinating and revealing monologue over the piece 'Deathzone'. The 'Mountain' film has been created by Bob Wass from Cathy's original film footage of her Everest expeditions. The film and soundtrack are an experimental 'journey' to explore sonically and visually the nature of 'journey and mountains'. DualDisc.

Free Spirits, The - Live At The Scene: February 22nd 1967 CD (Sunbeam Records) [SBR5084CD] $16.00
Featuring the earliest recordings of the young Larry Coryell, this short-lived quintet is widely acclaimed as the first jazz-rock band of all time. Though their landmark 1966 album captures their intense, psychedelic music well, those lucky enough to have seen them in performance maintain that their true power was only communicated live. Taped in their native NYC in February 1967, this warts-and-all live recording captures their fiery sound at its peak, with guest appearances by legendary jazzmen Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker and Joe Beck. This historically important set comes complete with detailed liner notes and rare pictures, making it essential for fans of jazz and psychedelic rock.

Marie Queenie Lyons - Soul Fever CD (Vampisoul) [VAMPI096CD] $11.50
2008 release. More than three decades after its original release, and for the very first time on CD, Marie Queenie Lyons 'cult classic Soul Fever. Marie Queenie Lyons is a mystery girl, a Southern enigma. Like a kind of black Bobbie Gentry, after just this one album Queenie vanished. Following its 1970 release, she disappeared off the soul map forever, like a Roman candle floating off into the warm Southern night. Because of the prodigious wealth of talent in black America at the time, great albums with miniscule marketing budgets were often overlooked. Soul Fever was just a drop in an ocean of fabulous, funky R&B recordings released that year. But over the decades, it's become a cult classic and established as one of the rarest and most prized Southern soul albums from that prolific era. Queenie certainly had the qualifications (in both sass and vocals) to be hired by James Brown as one of his "funky divas." But quite what happened to Queenie after the album's release has been lost in the mists of time. Soul Fever languished in obscurity for a couple of decades. But slowly, through the years, it's ascended to cult classic status. Now, after over three decades from its original release, it's finally been reissued.

Mohawks, The - The Champ CD (Vampisoul) [VAMPI103CD] $15.75

All top session musicians, The Mohawks released their astonishing 1968 LP The Champ, chockfull of incredibly groovy and funky tracks. Vampisoul presents this club/groove masterpiece with no less than six bonus tracks not included on the original album. This is a high-octane release with soul/jazz organ fueling hits, one after another. The songs herein contain arguably the best and grooviest Hammond heard east of the Atlantic, the heaviest bass ever played in London, tight-or-die drum work and a full set of explosive horns. An endless string of killer dancefloor fillers, from 1 to 12 (not to mention our bonus tracks, taken from 7" singles!). You'll sure recognize the title track (or at least its organ intro). A cult classic for more over 30 years, sampled by dozens of hip hop artists such as Erik B. & Rakim, De La Soul, DJ Shadow, etc. Since the early '60s, Alan Hawkshaw played his custom-built Hammond organ in thousands of studio sessions for a myriad of artists: Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin, Georgie Fame, David Bowie, Cliff Richard, Donovan, The Tremeloes, Dusty Springfield, Los Bravos, Barbra Streisand and Olivia Newton-John.

Nervebreakers - We Want Everything CD (Get Hip) [GH1032CD] $13.25

So here's your chance to discover one of the greatest Texas punk bands ever!"

Shin Joong Hyun - Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974 CD (Light In The Attic) [LITA0652] $13.25
RELEASE DATE: 09-27-2011
Shin Joong Hyun's tale is personal, spiritual, and deep, not only reflecting the full spectrum of human emotions, but one that produced reverberating echoes of sound, some beautiful and life-giving, others restless and ungovernable. For the first time outside of Korea, Shin's music will be readily available to music lovers the world over. Light In The Attic are thrilled to release Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974, a career spanning CD, 2xLP, and Digital Download compilation of the diminutive guitarist, songwriter, producer, arranger, and talent developer.

Inspired by jazz, soul, and traditional Korean music, Shin started his career in the mid-1950's, performing for US troops stationed locally after the Korean War armistice of 1953. While his English language skills were limited, the young player had no trouble communicating through his trusty electric guitar, but Shin was no mere 6-string slinger for hire, he was able to communicate something far beyond your average professional musician. Production work and extensive songwriting followed, not to mention a steady stream of electrifying performances. Gaining momentum by the moment, Shin developed popular success across South Korea molding protégés like singing duo the Pearl Sisters and folk-psych songbird Kim Jung Mi into top pop stars. From there it was hit after hit. The late 1960's rock explosion and an influx of imported music from The Beatles, Jimmy Smith, and The Jefferson Airplane all informed and inspired Mr. Shin to elevate his own craft. Even experimental trips via a crew of local hippies also took the music man to new heights despite Korean law forbidding such rebellion. Drug use was illegal and punishable as a serious offence. Park Chung-hee, then President of South Korea began to closely monitor Shin's "subversive" activities. After refusing to write a song in praise of the political leader, the musician was labeled unpatriotic and his career was instantly snuffed-out through a series of surveillance, torture, and institutional confinement.

While this was not the end of Shin's musical story, for an all-too-brief moment in Korean cultural history, Shin Joong Hyun and his talented accomplices laid down a trove of recordings that have slowly reverberated far from their native land. Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974 features Korean/English lyric translations, unseen pictures, beautiful graphic design, and extensive liner notes with Shin Joong Hyun. With loving attention to detail and Shin's full blessing, we trust you'll find this album as addictive as a bottle of your favorite Korean soju. So let's raise a toast to Shin and his musical life! As they say in Seoul, "Gun Bae!!!"

Various Artists - I Gotta New Dance CD (Vampisoul) [VAMPI067CD] $11.50
2005 release. Vampiaddicts, your share of fresh blood is coming to you! Stuff stored in the groove catacombs and delivered to you so you can sink your teeth into it and enjoy a taste of these goods full of funk, soul, progressive rhythms and Latin sounds. Taking off with one of the El Barrio partisans, from Spanish Harlem, the genuine, undisputable King of Latin Soul, Mr. Joe Bataan is back with the title track from his first new album in 20 years, Call My Name. The Diplomats of Solid Sound deliver a good dose of Hammond power. Mary Jane Hopper and The Vibrettes are Eddie Bo protégées from the '60s, bringing you authentic New Orleans funk. Ruth Brown is a distinguished survivor from the late '50s who has undergone highs and lows, major companies, tragic personal moments, and a comeback in the late '80s. In the "occult Vampi treasures" section we find lost gems now recovered and worthy of attention, such as La Sangre Caliente or Augustine Ramirez. Exploring the Latino territories, we find one of the first Mexican bands to achieve success in the mid '70s, The Headhunters (not to be confused with the American jazz-funk band), a band founded by Frankie GarcÄa, a.k.a. "Cannibal," whose "Land Of 1000 Dances" would be more successful in Mexico than the original version by Wilson Pickett. The most meaty soul and R&B are represented with contributions from Johnny Adams and Mickey Murray. This sampler also rescues forgotten names with little success in their time who are praised now by DJs, collectors and good music lovers alike. Such is the case with the likes of Sexteto Electrijnico Moderno, Boris Gardiner, Maranata or Roland Mesquita. From the Latino side we also find the Peruvian band Traffic Sound, who published four albums and called it quits in 1972. We also have the unclassifiable Totem from Uruguay; and the Lat-Teens, who in 1968 made one of the first pothead hymns in music history, the successful hit "Mary Wanna" --enjoy it with a nice joint close to your lips. To finish with this showcase of sounds, we get into the boogaloo and Latin Soul territories, with big names from which rare, hard-to-find songs have been recovered: Jimmy Sabater, Cal Tjader, Coco Lagos or Johnny Colon.

Winter (Naevus) - Brown is the Colour CD (DISQUES DE LAPIN) [11719] $8.75
The first stirrings of what became Naevus can be traced back to the first musical attempts of a trio consisting of Lloyd James, Joanne Owen and Dominic OConnor (later known as Dominic Silver) in London during 1995 and 1996. Drastically slowed-down cover versions of songs such as Buzzcocks Boredoms and The Stooges Not Right were attempted alongside the group's rather formless own material, which included an embryonic version of Oracle, Oraclª In 1997, a slightly more disciplined approach was attempted and, for practicalit's sake, the drum machine that would last through to the second Naevus album, Soil, was introduced. By this time, roles were defined, with Lloyd as lyricist and vocalist, Joanne as bassist and Dominic as guitarist, while composition emerged from various combinations of the members. In March 1997, Lloyd and Joanne invested in a 4-track recording device and the trio put together a cassette of three songs, choosing the title of the cassette, Winter, as the name for their group. By this time, Dominic had moved away from London to his native Cheshire (later moving on to Wookey Hole), so, after appearing on a goth compilation in May and releasing a further Winter cassette in August, necessity dictated that the trio become a duo. The temporary band name Riddlehouse was chosen (a reference to a Birthday Party song) and in November the cassette Wilkins Bones was released in November. Throughout 1998, rough demos were made for an unnamed future project and finally, at the end of the year, a digital 8-track recorder was purchased and Lloyd and Joanne set about working on the songs that would later emerge on the album Truffles of Love. With the release of the album in early 1999, the name Naevus was settled upon, a reference to the birth mark that Lloyd had had removed from his arm in childhood, which seemed to match some of the medical themes that marked out the groups songs at the time. Naevus continue to perform, record and release new material. Dominic was involved in various musical activities in the Wookey hole area in the early 2000s. He died in a car accident in 2003. "Brown is the Colour" is presented as a limited edition CD-R release in a hand-stamped arigatopak with lyrics and artwork. Also available as a digital download.

Wizz Jones is an undisputed giant of modern folk, and one of the finest acoustic guitarists Britain has ever produced. Atom Heart - Orange CD (Ambient World/Fax) [AW067] $15.00
RELEASE DATE: 03-28-2011
Atom Heart - Orange (monochrome stills) Recorded and released in 1994, this is certainly one of Atom Heart's classic albums. It can clearly be located in Atom's "ambient" period, that may be seen as the transition moment right in between his club oriented works (1990-1993) and the birth of his "rather interesting" label (1994). Without hesitation "Orange" can be classified as an "ambient" album in the most traditional sense, even though, like always, Atom had given it a slight twist, which made it simply a bit different from what was out there in 1994 (and probably therefor makes it an album that is still worth listening to nowadays). That said, Fax Records, which released the album back in 1994, decided to release this limited edition re-issue on AW. Atom himself remastered the album just recently which makes an even better soundtrack of today. "Orange" contains 5 tracks, all of them, except for "Rainecho", can be described as slowly moving, repetitive, abstract textures and within themselves contain different sections or "scenes". While some tracks carry either a neutral or positive feeling ("One Atomsecond") others ("Ode to BG") are rather dark, slightly hostile compositions that remain us of Atom's "industrial" period for example. "Rainecho" then, is the only rhythmical track on this album which perfectly fits within the previously described abstract worlds of "Orange" and just gives the entire album the right flow.

David Moufang - Solitaire CD (Ambient World/Fax) [AW063] $15.00
RELEASE DATE: 10-18-2010
"Moufang's first solo project for Fax is a pretty minimal affair, similar to the I.F. series, but without quite the breadth of sounds. Moufang restricts himself to an 808 and maybe two or three synths for the entirety of the disc, which shifts track to track between moody, sountrackish ambient and more upbeat techno- and electro-derived listening music." --Sean Cooper

Bernard Herrmann - Psycho LP (Doxy) [DOY650LP] $22.25
"Now, for the first time ever on vinyl, the soundtrack to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho, scored by one of the greatest composers to ever grace the silver screen, Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, etc.) Herrmann began writing scores for Alfred Hitchcock in 1955, but the apex of this collaboration came undoubtedly with the scoring of 1960s Psycho, where Herrmann's amazing ability to set the mood has made the soundtrack to Psycho perhaps the most memorable in the history of cinema (who can recall the shower scene without recalling the sound of shrieking violins?). Do not miss your chance to own this classic on vinyl!"

Africa Hitech - Out In The Streets (VIP) 12 inch (Warp Records) [WAP315EP] $11.25
"Out in the Streets is the flagship slice of 1980s Jamaica and youth culture explosion of juke from Africa Hitech's debut album 93 Million Miles (out now on Warp Records). The track has taken over clubs and airwaves across the globe this summer, championed by Gilles Peterson, Rob da Bank and Zane Lowe ('I LOVE IT!') on BBC Radio 1, Jason Bentley at KCRW (LA), and everywhere in between. DJs and producers have professed their love as well, including ModeSelector, Kode9, Diplo, Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Untold, Toddla T, Benji B, Scratcha DVA and many more. For this limited 12' single version, the track has undergone a powerful D'n'Besque reworking or, as Africa Hitech's Steve Spacek puts it: 'A little alternate flex on the 'Out In The Streets' track'--to become Out in the Streets (VIP).' The single also features two all new Africa Hitech tracks, 'Caveman Style' and 'Seek Em Step.'"

Afx/Autechre - Quex-RD/Skin Up, You're Already Dead 12 inch (Unknown Label) [SAINTE] $9.75
Remixes of Saint Etienne tracks. AFX's "Quex-RD" mix of "Who Do You Think You Are" backed by Autechre's "Skin Up You're Already Dead" mix of "Like A Motorway."

Aidan Baker - Pure Drone (Drone Compendium One) LP (Beta Lactam Ring) [11693] $16.00
The album title certainly does not deceive. But there is something absolutely worthy about Baker's approach to drone composition. He employs a subtle, patient counterpoint that offers an appealing spaciousness when played loud. The music is utterly enveloping, seemingly forcing the listener into a meditative state (Do not operate heavy equipment while listening, unless that heavy equipment is speakers or a spaceship). The compelling organic majesty of these 2 long tracks wafts deep oceanic. Pure drown. DRONE COMPENDIUM IS A NEW SERIES CURATED BY AND INVOLVING AIDAN BAKER WITH SEVEN LP RELEASES: AIDAN BAKER, ARC, MNEMOSYNE, AIDAN BAKER/THOMAS BAKER/ALAN BLOOR, WHISPER ROOM, ADORAN AND NADJA. Ambivalent - Jackson 12 inch (Plus 8) [PLUS8118EP] $10.75
This four track EP from Ambivalent carefully blends the soul of his American roots with a European propensity for machine music, producing an ever-evolving sonic blueprint that explores some of his most fluid grooves to date. "Jackson" sets out as a rolling tech cut swollen with satisfying sub-bass. On "Train To Brooklyn" the melody is much freer, falling up, down and side-to-side. On "Lear," the beats boom and bash, hustling both each other and the echoing percussive line above.

Aquarelle - Sung in Broken Symmetry LP (Students Of Decay) [SOD089LP] $15.50
"Describing the music of Aquarelle's Ryan Potts is a difficult task indeed. It's related to the hazy, heavily treated output of musicians such as Fennesz and Tim Hecker, but one would be remiss to locate it solely within the realm of electronic ambient or drone, as there are often strong organic, rhythmic and composerly elements to Potts' work. In fact, the title of his last record, Slow Circles, might offer the best point of access into the Aquarelle aesthetic, in which compositional tropes such as cyclicality and accretion are woven together with surging, bright overtones, fragmented acoustic guitar melodies, and monumental distortion. Another point of distinction between Potts' guitar-based compositions and that of the laptop-wielding contemporaries and forebears amongst whom one would be tempted to locate his sound is the fact that he largely eschews digital, 'in-the-box' processing. A self proclaimed 'FX pedal fetishist,' his compositions carry with them a boldness, depth and grit that is all but impossible to cultivate through DSP alone and aligns some elements of his sound with that of Scott Cortez/Lovesliescrushing and late-period Yellow Swans. Using a palette of electric and acoustic guitars, vintage and boutique effects pedals and various percussion sources, Potts crafts highly detailed, slowly evolving soundscapes which beg for repeat listens so that one might get inside their myriad layers. 'With Verticals' opens the record, blooming suddenly into a startlingly propulsive edifice replete with crackling, distorted guitar sounds married to quasi-Reichian percussion. Later, 'Origin' sizzles and hisses its way into a staggeringly detailed drone opus before opening up into a veritable vista of acoustic guitar, cymbal and cello histrionics. A cohesive and fully immersive collection, Sung in Broken Symmetry is an assured statement from a young musician who is equally comfortable navigating frailty and violence. Mastered by James Plotkin. Edition of 300."

Barn Owl - Lost In The Glare LP (Thrill Jockey) [THR280LP] $15.00

Battles - My Machines 12 inch (Warp Records) [WAP321EP] $11.25
"Battles' My Machines, featuring synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan, is available as a 12" colored vinyl single August 16th via Warp Records. The track from the band's critically acclaimed sophomore record Gloss Drop (available now on Warp Records) has been hailed by NME as 'propelled on stern, piston drums, pointillistic guitar notes scattering like frightened crickets.' Numan notes that 'working with Battles was an easy choice for me. They have a unique approach to making music and a clear idea of what they want. They are inventive, adventurous, unpredictable and I'm proud to be involved.' The single also includes non-album track 'A.M. Gestalt' as the B-side."

Bear Claw - Needle And Thorn - One Sider 10 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF022] $7.50
Four lonesome, sweet, pop tunes pulled from BEAR CLAW's 2009 self-released cassette. One-sided 10-inch vinyl release backed with label art.

Benni Hemm Hemm - Skot LP (Kimi) [KRLP030LP] $16.00

Billy Martin & The Soul Jets - I Turn You On LP (Onion Records) [LPWS1225LP] $11.00
Whiplash funk that's gonna wipe the streets clean of all the scum of the Earth. Tracks: "I Turn You On," "One More Time," "Funky Feelin'," "It's Your Life," "We Can Work It Out" and "Baby I'm For Real."

Bitchin Bajas/Faceplant - Split LP (Bathetic) [BATH046] $14.25
BITCHIN BAJAS is the solo synthscapes of one COOPER CRAIN, maybe better known as a member of modern krautrock masters CAVE. With Bitchin Bajas, Crain creates worlds of sound, crafted from analog synthesizer and organ tones, not entirely too far removed from certain elements of Harmonia, Edgar Froese, or Cluster. Crain is definitely bringing a vintage sound to the table here. Clean, distinct arppegiated tones floating and bouncing, drifting and forming zones of their own. This is real deal psychadelia at its finest. FACEPLANT is the solo work of one AARON COYES of PEAKING LIGHTS and RAHDUNES fame. Peaking Lights have made a sturdy name for themselves playing homemade synth-driven psychedelic, dub-infused drone-pop. With Faceplant-described as Coyes' ''solo modular hessian noise trance project,'' he is mining a somewhat similar terrain. Driving percussive beats are slathered in dubby echo, while sweet synthesizers hover and chime; it's definitely a groovy affair. You can't listen to this and not shake your ass, just a little bit. Includes an 11"x14" poster.

Boston Spaceships - Let It Beard 2xLP (GBV Inc) [GVBI15LP] $19.75

Both Worlds - Don'tcha Hide It LP (Tp Records) [TPI1004LP] $11.00
Early '70s space-hall tripped-out funk with a heavy, raw production that carries its weight beyond good and evil on tracks like "Freedom Jazz Dance," "Get Up," "It's Love," "Solide" and "Stop, Turn Around." If anybody can source any of the t-shirts this 8-member band is sporting on the back cover, please get in touch.

Brainoil - Death Of This Dry Season LP (20 Buck Spin) [SPIN041] $13.25
It has been eight long years since Oakland's BRAINOIL released their self-titled debut LP via Life Is Abuse. Back then, their combination of crushingly oppressive but up-tempo sludge and Oakland hardcore punk was well regarded in the underground and saw the band tour both domestically and abroad. Subsequently, members GREG WILKINSON, IRA HARRIS and NATHAN SMITH all drifted toward myriad other projects, and Brainoil, though not officially dead, was put on ice. The band regrouped slowly over these last few years, resulting in Brainoil's first batch of tunes for the new decade. Death of This Dry Season picks up the furious hardcore sludge sound for which Brainoil is well known as though they'd never left. A little older and a little wiser, Death of This Dry Season is a short, sharp shock of intense aural battery, like an amalgamation of other ugly sounding Bay Area stalwarts such as Abscess, El Dopa and Black Cobra, yet never enough like anyone else to pinpoint a direct influence. Features great artwork by FEEDING, including a huge 24-inch by 24-inch poster.

Brian M. Clark - Songs From The Empty Places Where People Killed Themselves 12 inch (Discriminate) [11712] $14.00
One-sided 12" vinyl EP. Limited to an edition of 500 copies pressed on black vinyl and hand-numbered. Also included is a 2 track mp3 download card. This is a one-sided 12" EP of instrumental songs about suicide. In the tradition of what are typically referred to as "tone poems" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tone_poem), each song is an attempt at evoking a different suicide scenario and is named for the location in which the imagined suicide has taken place.

"Very groovy. Definitely up my strasse!" - Douglas P. (Death In June)

"If the notion of psychedelic love songs about Anne Frank tickles your fancy, buy this disc right now and not later." - Boyd Rice (NON)

Bronnt Industries Kapital - Hard For Justice LP (Get Physical Music) [GPM028LP] $16.00

Bryan Black - Bryan Black Presents Black Asteroid "The Engine" 12 inch (Clr) [CLR049EP] $12.25
The Engine EP by Black Asteroid is the brand-new project from an unconventional techno innovator and a big inspiration for many years. Black Asteroid is the brainchild of Bryan Black, who started his career as a sound designer for Prince. His band Motor shared stages with Daft Punk and Kraftwerk at major festivals, and later supported Depeche Mode on their world tour in 2009. Reaching top rank on Dave Clarke's monthly top ten, "Engine" is pure POWER.

Charalambides - Exile 2xLP (Kranky) [KRANK158LP] $16.75

Die Vogel - Fratzengulasch 12 inch (Pampa) [PAMPA008EP] $13.25
Die VĶgel have laid another milestone in the history of club music -- the Fratzengulasch EP. Groundbreaking, surreal and captivatingly timeless, this dance music doesn't give a damn about the laws of gravity and the monotony of everyday routines. Listen in to the dream-like canons, freely dissonant brass orchestrations and hypnotic, psychedelic beats. The arrangements are clever, without relying on samples and tried-and-tested techniques. This is a tribal meditation.

DJ T. (Feat. Cari Golden) - City Life 12 inch (Get Physical Music) [GPM150EP] $12.25
DJ T.'s Pleasure Principle (GPM 040CD) album helped usher in a renaissance of groove-heavy house. DJ T. turns to the sultry vocal track "City Life" to launch into summer anthem mode. "City Life" recalls the 1980s warehouse era, mixing a rough-round-the edges vocal treatment with hands-in-the-air chord stabs. Maceo Plex offers a warm house rework that is built on a sampled guitar pulse and ghostly strings while Maya Jane Coles' gentle dub treatment features an expertly pitched-down tempo. Also features a DJ T. rework.

Ducktails - Killin The Vibe LP (New Images) [NI01] $16.50
A new EP from MATT MONDANILE's DUCKTAILS. Basically a single for the song "Killin the Vibe" featuring PANDA BEAR, DENT MAY and JARVIS TAVANIERE, this EP also includes two exclusive unreleased tracks and a live version of "Killin the Vibe" featuring SPECTRALS (UK, Slumberland) as the backing band. Beautiful hand drawn art by LAUREN PAKRADOONI. Limited Edition of 500 copies. First record on New Images Ltd. Plays at 45rpm.

Elan Tamara - Organ 12 inch (Big Dada) [BD182EP] $11.25
"Everyone witters on about the latest female singer-songwriter to plop off the major label production line but the truth is this: most of them sound the same. Weak retreads of classic soul or classic folk or classic this or that. As a whole, people are more interested in how they look than whether they have anything to say, or any way to say it. Please welcome, then, Elan Tamara, who genuinely sounds like no one else. Fascinated by Balinese Gamelan and Steve Reich, she makes music as uncategorisable, as heartfelt and beautifully otherworldly as anything you're likely to hear. Over two EPs she has carved out a space so unique and unclassifiable that people have fallen back on namechecking other female artists with a distinctive aesthetic and outlook -- Kate Bush, Bjork, Joanna Newsom and their ilk. Needless to say, she doesn't sound like them, either."

Estrella De Marzo - A Los Ninos Con Amor LP (Shadoks Music) [SHAD14€] $38.50
"Most do not know much about music from Bolivia, like us. What's flashing in our minds is the Andes, La Paz and flute music by Indios. But there are some great rock & underground bands such as Wara, Climax and most of all Estrella De Marzo. This album (still unknown to most collectors) is not only special because it's from a country not many listeners know much about. This album is so great, so much underground, so unique and well crafted, that it goes into a strong competition with most 'classic underground releases' from South America. If you are into wild fuzz guitar ala Zappa, and if you like Kissing Spell from Chile, beautiful vocals with strong lyrics and great beats, you will love this album. The early Pink Floyd has also influenced this album. For us it was one of the big musical discoveries for this year. Every track is great, high spirit progressive underground rock, as good as it can be. This album A Los Ninos Con Amor (To Children with Love) was recorded in 1974 with, keyboards, guitars, drums, bass & vocals." 500 numbered. Heavy sleeve. 180 gram pressing. 2 page inserts.

Expensive Shit/Shit And Shine - Split 7 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF032] $7.50
"Romantic and Macho at the Same Time" by SHIT AND SHINE backed with "Crushal Version" by EXPENSIVE SHIT. Romantic noise musings/Crueshaly destroyed dub-works both at 45rpm and 33rpm. Limited to 300 copies.

Follow That Bird - Where They Rest - One Sider 10 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF020] $7.50
This Austin trio kicks off Monofonus' one-sider series with a raw three-tracker recorded in the man-shed. Thick guitar chunk, perfect percussive clang, and seriously commanding vocals all packaged on a uniquely assembled 10-inch vinyl record with artwork by LAUREN DICKINS.

Freescha - Babies In Your Body 7 inch (Attack 9) [ATT7001] $13.00
RELEASE DATE: 08-30-2011

Gavin Russom - Night Sky 12 inch (DFA) [DFA2289] $8.75
There is a fantastic quality to GAVIN RUSSOM's work, an otherworldliness that is subtle yet palpable. It's heard-or felt, more precisely-in all of his projects, including THE CRYSTAL ARK, BLACK METEORIC STAR and his numerous recordings with DELIA GONZALEZ. All of Russom's sonic astral projections, with their textures and atmospheric layers, demonstrate his astounding production skills and modular wizardry. As DFA's studio engineer, he was entrusted with the hefty task of maintaining the label's analog stockade. Russom has built custom gear for the likes of James Murphy, Black Dice and Holy Ghost!; has remixed artists including Juan Maclean, Cut Copy and Caribou; and filled out the wonderful music of LCD Soundsystem. So it's no wonder that Russom's newest solo outing, Night Sky, reflects the talent and experience accrued in all those roles with both stunning precision and audible clarity. Add patience to the above list as well. "Night Sky" takes its time to grow, with Russom building anticipation one flickering, starry note at a time. The buzzy bottom end enters and expands before his vocals-alleyway dark and mysterious-make their way in. The song is nearly at the four-minute mark before all the elements, including the beat that marks the song's pulse, are in place. From there, "Night Sky" dips and dives, going from barebones synthesizers resting on organic percussion to explosive vocal choruses. The end reunites nearly every sound in an ecstatic ensemble of rhythms and noise. Features a remix from Chicago's MELVIN OLIPHANT, aka DJ / producer TRAXX.

Glenn Jones - The Wanting 2xLP (Thrill Jockey) [THR271LP] $18.25

Glitter Wizard - Solar Hits LP (Archers Guild) [AGSH1] $15.00
Hurry! GLITTER WIZARD'S debut LP follows up their "Black Lotus" single with more cosmic heaviness, taking all the aspects of their music even further out. While it lives up to the Hawkwind-meets-Sabbath comparison frequently applied to the band, Solar Hits also showcases Glitter Wizard's diversity with brutally-direct metal riffage, spaced-out feedback and electronics, straight-ahead garage punk, free-styling improv mayhem, and even progressive sax/flute/violin interplay (with a guest performance by Steve MacKay) yet creating one cohesive rock record. Although it's not possible for an audio recording to show the band's over-the-top glam stage look (Youtube "Snow Crash" for a dose of that), the album unquestionably gives a feel for the irresistible fun of the Glitter Wizard live experience, while adding layers of psychedelic goodness that can only come from time and effort in the studio. And at its core, beyond stylistic considerations, the album demonstrates solid, compelling songwriting from singer Wendy Stonehenge and his band (including underground veteran Doug "Graves", who's worked with Nothing People, Liquorball, Monoshock, etc.). Insert, download card, limited to 450 copies and totally great!

Guards - Resolution Of One 7 inch (Kitsune) [KITSUNE129EP] $11.50
Guards was formed in NYC when Richie James Follin returned from tour to a recording studio with nothing in it but a broken electric 12-string guitar and an omnichord. He wrote and recorded a few songs there with the help of his friends (Caroline Polachek of Chairlift, James Richardson of MGMT, Loren Shane Humphrey of Baby Fangs) and little sister (Madeline Follin of Cults) and spread them on the Internet, rapidly gaining the blogosphere's endorsement. Limited edition 7" with two exclusive new tracks!

Hecate - Brew Hideous Remixes 12 inch (Ad Noiseam) [ADN143] $11.00
Truth through diversity: Hecate breaks a long period of silence with an EP on which four of her closest collaborators get to remix and mash up material from her "Brew Hideous" album. From the fast paced breakcore of the Amboss and Vile Enginez remixes to the solemnity of the White Darkness (a.k.a. Bong-Ra) and Slutmachine ones, Hecate's music gets revealed and amplified under each of its aspect. Let is be heard that the reigning queen of breakcore is back, not alone, and with a vengeance.

Heresy Of The Free Spirit - A Prayer For Light LP (Incunabulum) [INC011LP] $22.25
Heresy Of The Free Spirit is a trio comprised of Dutch lute player, Jozef van Wissem and Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalists, Che Chen (of True Primes) on violin, bowed rawap, bass recorder, percussion and tape machines, and Robbie Lee (of Howling Hex, Baby Dee, Brightblack Morning Light) on portative organ, bass recorder, guitar, banjo and electronics. Using early European as well as non-Western instruments and electronics, the trio plays arrangements of van Wissem's lute compositions as well as free improvisations that draw on early music, folk traditions, minimalism and noise. Fully utilizing the extended techniques, unique textures and tuning possibilities of their unusual instruments, the trio use both repetition and silence as ways of entering trance-like states. Their record, A Prayer For Light is a radical re-imagining of early European and American primitive music in which the sources are stretched and re-purposed to accommodate free improvisation, extended, repetitive song forms, and tape manipulations. Screenprinted black and silver cover. Art by Che Chen.

James Blake - CMYK 12 inch (R&S) [RS1003EP] $11.00
2010 debut single from the London-based producer on R&S. James Blake is so enormously-tipped by the forward-thinking "dubstep" universe that Mary Anne Hobbs used up all the wobbles in her head trying to come up with a goofy quote about him.

James Blake - Klavierwerke 12 inch (R&S) [RS1007EP] $11.75
2010 single that opened the post-Burial, family-friendly UK bass continuum. Brilliant sleeve art by Will Bankhead.

Not only was Kevin a resident of the "Storm" parties at Rex Club, he still remains one of the most active promoters in the south of France. For the remix of "Sick" is Kevin Cormac. Originally from Ireland, Cormac has emerged as one of the UK's hottest new DJ/producer talents, employing moody vocals, killer hooks and a keen sense of how to build a groove.

King Cannibal - All The Colours Of The Night 12 inch (Ad Noiseam) [ADN140] $11.00
The night has roared, and now has many colours and shades on King Cannibal's most varied record to date. From this established producer's insidious remix of Bong-Ra's "Come Out To Play" or Machine Code's anthemic and furious version of "Dirt" to the more laid back and melodic remixes by Krumble and Dead Fader, this EP is an accurate snapshot of what King Cannibal is about: not only can he pack a dancefloor, but he also delivers gentle tunes or impressive beatwork. King Cannibal has a posse, an untamed, diverse one.

The first of a pair of limited run 12"s pulling up tracks from Kromestar's CD Colourful Vibrations. Colourful Vibrations has a variety of moods, but the main focus of Kromestar's genius is his ability to create ambient, soulful dubstep. Includes the exclusive vinyl-only track "Earthling."

Lando Kal - Maneuver 12 inch (Rush Hour) [RHDC11EP] $12.25
Two corkers From Kal! Tip! Lando Kal is known for teaming up with Low Limit as Lazer Sword, future hip-hop from the Bay Area. His solo tracks are freaked out juggernauts of electronic music, primarily experimenting with various mutations of house. "Maneuver" is a sure-shot banger, a futuristic synth piece with heavy garage leanings and even a hint of Robin S' classic "Show Me Love." "Run It" is a more introverted, electro-fused b-boy classic from future times.

Magazine - Concerts, Festivals, Shows and Other Special Events 12 inch (Magazine) [MAGAZINE004EP] $12.25
Collaborating since 1999, recently founding the label Magazine and the collective Cologne Tape, this is nevertheless the first time Barnt, Crato and Jens-Uwe Beyer appear together as one formation, simply called Magazine. Living in Cologne for the past decade, with the exception of some years spent in London and Manchester, the group is based on DJ culture and on the German electronic music tradition. This record is pockmarked with overflowing melodies, sometimes well-structured, sometimes wild and wooly. Artwork on high quality heavy stock.

Martin Landsky - Morning Caffeine 12 inch (Mobilee) [MOBILEE081EP] $11.50
This is the debut release by Poker Flat's Martin Landsky on Mobilee. "Morning Caffeine (Main Mix)" kickstarts the EP with both a dark and uplifting mood as a slightly twisted loop continues to build throughout the track, never really culminating but carrying on inescapably, while in contrast the "Organ Dub" version offers a much lighter and bouncier atmosphere. "Ain't Nobody's" once again demonstrates Landsky's musical diversity while serving up really special warm, dreamy vibes.

Matthew Dear - Body Language 7 2xLP (Get Physical Music) [GPM025LP] $19.75

Metronomy - The Bay 12 inch (Because Music) [BEC5772943] $12.25

NME and Drowned In Sound gave the album a rating of 9/10. "The Bay" is one of the highlights from this fantastic album, well-placed as a future dancefloor classic. Includes a rework by Erol Alkan.

Mike Simonetti - Capricorn Rising LP (Italians Do It Better) [IDIB029] $12.00
Italians Do It Better head honcho MIKE SIMONETTI got his start in the New York City underground House scene in the late 1980's. As a teenager he promoted parties at the legendary dance club Mars. Twenty years, countless edits, mixes & DJ gigs around the world later, Italians Do It Better is pleased to present Mike's first slice of original music. Capricorn Rising is songs for the dance floor & the party after the after party. If you've caught one of his infamous DJ sets, you know he can keep the dance floor playful, heady & obscure all at the same time. His recordings are equally eclectic. Alternating between pulsating rhythms & atmospheric clouds. He blurs the lines between major, minor and motorik. Features a collaboration with Australian pop singer SAM SPARRO on the cut "Third Of The Storms." Cover concept & design by JOHNNY JEWEL with airbrush work by BRANKO VRANIC.

Mike Simonetti & Johnny Jewel - Hollywood Seven 12 inch (Perseo) [PERSEO004] $9.25
"Hollywood Seven" has been a dance floor weapon of MIKE SIMONETTI's DJ sets for almost six years. It's one of those tracks people come up to the booth and ask about the most. Perseo is happy to finally answer that question with this essential release. Rescued from the depths of dollar bin obscurity. Four years later, after intensive editing & mixing by the folks at Perseo headquarters in Rome, the ultimate "Hollywood Seven" record finally sees it's release. Don't look at this as simply an "edit record." Consider it a slice of unknown music history, an unlikely cover song that has become a dancefloor classic! Perseo records is proud to share it with you.

Mirror Mirror - Interiors LP (Rvng International) [RVNGNL009LP] $17.25

Moby - Mistake 12 inch (Because Music) [BEC5772579] $12.25
2009 single. Remixes by Lifelike, Funkagenda, Yuksek and Dabruck And Klein.

Mordecai - Mordecai LP (Killertree) [KTR14] $14.25
Bona fide math genius ELIJAH BODISH totally gets the theories linking cubism to geometry, while his brother HOLT subsists on frozen pizzas and has this '66 Sunset Strip look any droog would knife for. Together they churn like devil-don't-care Swell Maps on Benadryl, Neil Young bootlegs (strung-out era) and The Fall, fresh out of a woodpile. Recorded in an abandoned YMCA bathroom with high ceilings, their LP is abrasive, crude and bombastic-a serious lo-fi crusher that fits in perfectly with a still unheralded genre (rural punk rock) mixed with muddy Mansonesque flower-power. And not a whiff of shitty ol' irony anywhere. Because the brothers were born at Dead shows (1989 and 1992 tours, respectively), it's only appropriate that the silkscreened jackets are printed with glow-in-the-dark ink.

Mr. Oizo - Pourriture 12 inch (Ed Banger Records) [BEC5772461] $12.25
2009 release. Mr. Oizo is back again with a second EP taken from his Lamb's Anger album. Instead of asking remixers ''Ä la mode'," Mr. Oizo is proposing some radical, self-reworked versions of "Lars Von Sen," "Pourriture" and "Steroids" (featuring Uffie). Some Irish dude sent the label a remix of "Erreur Jean" and you can bet that Arveene & Misk will make some more noise soon. Finally, Mr. Oizo gives you an extract from "Con Tact" -- from a short movie project.

Muff Deep - Enter The Muff 12 inch (Tartelet) [TART018EP] $11.50
Tartelet label manager Emil Margetli and Copenhagen DJ Mathias Mesteıo make up Muff Deep, who share a mutual interest in vintage electronic music. "Enter The Muff" is a warm, bumping and decidedly sticky affair. Laced with heavy sub-bass, organ licks, cooing soul vox and rides galore, this is intense, classic house that'll provide the dancefloor with an elegant slap upside the head. "Steady Muffin" features piano licks, lush, organic percussion and all-out good-time party vibrations. This track embraces the Balearic summer.

Nest - Body Pilot 10 inch (Serein) [SERE1131] $13.75
RELEASE DATE: 09-13-2011
10" vinyl Limited to 500. Nest is the collaborative project of Huw Roberts and Otto A. Totland. Using a combination of acoustic instruments, field recordings and sample manipulation, the two work together to create instrumental music linked closely with their environments.

To date, Nest have released one EP and one album, both through Serein. Their debut EP was released in 2007 and made available for free download, to date is has been downloaded over 25,000 times. In 2009, this material was re-released alongside five new pieces on their CD album, 'Retold', which quickly sold out at source. Nest are now set to release 'Body Pilot'. An EP comprising four new pieces based around the theme of flight.

While unmistakably a Nest record, the material on 'Body Pilot' marks a more restrained, pared back development of Nest's sound. The palette used to craft these pieces is sparser than on previous recordings, placing greater emphasis on the nuances and subtleties of each sound.

'Stillness' opens proceedings on familiar ground. Gently sustained strings rise from a near inaudible hum and are accompanied by slow, resounding piano notes. The pace is glacial, each sound unravels and unfolds in sequence painting a vivid picture of the record's opening scene. The muted greens of an open plain as it tapers into the distance and the pearl-white of the sky, featureless save the bas-relief of a distant mountain range. The landscape resonates in sympathy with the beckoning drone of a propeller engine.

On 'The Dying Roar', we find ourselves borne aloft amid turbulent skies. Brass and woodwind instruments swirl and eddy, growing in intensity until, like the ground disappearing below, they blur and fade into nothing. The engines are cut and we glide silently into the white. Solo piano plays out the piece and closes the first side of the record.

In sharp contrast with the pieces preceding it, "Koretz's Meteor" opens with the haunted drone of an electronic synthesiser. Unidentifiable sounds and effects clamour for space around the rising growl, sweeping from left to right, submerging and resurfacing. A camera shutter opens and closes, cicadas sing in the night, what could it be, that burns so bright?

'Body Pilot' comes to a close with 'The Ultimate Horizon', a detached, isolated piece of music. Sounds speed up and slow down like the on / off of a propeller, sub-bass rises and falls, passing above and below hearing level. The track fades as we travel beyond the infinite.

Nochexxx - Savage Herald/Charro 12 inch (Ramp) [RAMP044EP] $10.75
Having junked his computer in favor an MPC and an 8-track tape and a rougher, more technoid sound, Nochexxx steps back into the Ramp fold with his unique, lopsided, turf-footed, beat-smithing, post-everything beats.

a href=http://www.ear-rational.com/detail.php?id=73288 target=_new>NOFX - 10 10 inch (Fat Wreck Chords) [FAT773] $10.50
NOFX's latest release is a lot of things, none of which you'd normally expect. Back at their humble beginning NOFX were just teenage kids slinking around the '80s LA punk scene, trying to emulate the obscure hardcore bands they idolized. Since those days a few things have changed. NOFX have progressed as musicians (thankfully), song writers, and entertainers, which has led to the legendary status they hold today, but along the way they never lost their love for the hardcore sound they were weaned on. So the band decided that they'd get together and churn out some gritty, high energy covers of songs from the genre. Everyone in the band takes a turn with lead vocals duties, except for SMELLY, who pours every bit of his energy into bashing the living crap out of his drum kit from start to finish. Of course, furious guitar and bass lines abound as well. The result? Nine unapologetically loud tracks that kick the listener in the teeth with the desperation and intensity of the '80s hardcore scene, while flashing the talent that has sustained NOFX's iconic renown for over 25 years. Vinyl-only release.

Pageninetynine (pg.99) - Singles LP (Robotic Empire) [ROBO099] $13.25
Over the course of their mere five-year existence, Sterling, Virginia's PAGENINETYNINE redefined what punk rock could be. This venerable squad of miscreants from the outskirts of the nation's capital incorporated aspects of nearly every heavy music sub-genre into a tornado of punk fury, releasing a plethora of albums, singles, splits and more, touring relentlessly and inspiring a dedicated, diehard fanbase. Robotic Empire is pleased to announce a timely re-press of the band's landmark Document #8 album and the long-awaited vinyl release of their hard-to-find Singles compilation CD. Singles, first released on CD in 2003 by Reptilian Records, showcases the group's evolution from humble beginnings to a furious midpoint and experimental end. The album title is somewhat of a misnomer, as the release collects material from splits with Circle Takes the Square, City of Caterpillar, Enemy Soil, Process Is Dead and Reactor No. 7, along with other short-run EP, demo and compilation tracks. Mastered by JAMES PLOTKIN for a much warmer, fuller sound not heard on the original releases, Singles is an essential document for longtime fans and newcomers alike. Pageninetynine will reunite in August 2011 at the Best Friend's Day festival in Richmond, Virginia, where they will perform Document #8 in its entirety.

Pillars and Tongues - Pass And Crossings LP (Empty Cellar) [EMP012] $13.25
Empty Cellar is proud to announce the release of the new full-length from Chicago's PILLARS AND TONGUES, The Pass and Crossings. After two full-lengths-and too many DIY releases to count-Pillars and Tongues have returned from near-endless touring to deliver their most focused outing yet. Having spent years developing a uniquely textured sound, Pillars and Tongues have now given teeth to their creation, and the doom is manifest. This is immediately apparent in the lyrical depths of the album opener, a mesmerizing song seemingly conjured by seduction from some very dark places. Lush violin lines swell and sing over pulsing drums, moving at a pace and with a weight that would not be out of place on an Earth record. Rolling desert drones permeate this album, interlaced with swampy melodies, adorned with moments of shimmering dream pop, and punctuated by heavy-almost tribal-percussion. The album plunges deep into spiritually imbued moments of minimalist trance, and emerges like some haunted vision of Peter Gabriel during cathartic groove-heavy climaxes on tracks "Thank You, Oaky" and "The Making Graceful." As with their previous album, Lay of Pilgrim Park (Empty Cellar), Pillars and Tongues continue to accumulate comparisons to the goth-drama and global grooves of early 4AD legends, Dead Can Dance. Features contributions from BEN BABBITT & THEO KARON from THIS IS CINEMA. LP includes a high quality digital download and a full color 16x23" poster.

Psychobuildings - Psychobuildings 12 inch (All Hands Electric) [AHE14LP] $14.25

Ralph White - Mongrel's Hoard LP (Monofonus Press) [MF024] $19.50
A beautiful recording cementing RALPH WHITE's unique position in the unfolding history of so-called "roots music." His banjo, kalimba, fiddle, accordion, and high-lonesome drawl create a drone-like, somewhat psychedelic folk language. Limited to 300 hand-screened copies, with art by TIM KERR.

Rhythm Odyssey & Dr Dunks, The - Zoo-Ma-City 12 inch (Endless Flight) [EF037EP] $14.75
Endless Flight is happy to announce a fantastic artist collaboration between Dean Meredith (aka Chiken Lips) & Eric Duncan (Rub 'N Tug). The main version of "Zoo-Ma-City" is a jackin' Chicago house style track with a female voice sample. It's good all-around for house-heads. The B-side contains a DJ tool beat version with some unique acid a cappella.

Richard Buckner - Our Blood LP (Merge) [MRG339LP] $16.25
Since 2006's Meadow, fans of RICHARD BUCKNER have been clamoring for new material and wondering what was keeping their hero from releasing the new songs he would perform on the road. Well, it's a long story! First, there was the score to a film that never happened. Then there was a brief brush with the law over a headless corpse in a burned-out car that had all eyes in Buckner's small hometown in upstate New York turned toward him and his long-suffering truck. Shortly after a move to a safer, less popular corpse dumping ground, the death of his tape machine led to yet another reboot. After Richard called in pedal steel and percussion players and put new mixes on his laptop, his new "safer" place was burglarized. Goodbye, laptop. Buckner says: "Eventually, the recording machine was resuscitated and some of the material was recovered. Cracks were patched. Parts were redundantly re-invented. Commas were moved. Insinuations were re-insinuated until the last percussive breaths of those final OCD utterances were expelled like the final heaves of bile, wept-out long after the climactic drama had faded to a somber, blurry moment of truth and voila!, the record was done, or, let us be clear, abandoned like the charred shell of a car with a nice stereo." LP limited to 1,000 copies and includes a download. No Export to Canada, Europe and Australia.

Rocket From The Tombs - Barfly LP (Smog Veil) [SV104LP] $12.25

Sonic Reducer, Final Solution, Ain't It Fun, and 30 Seconds Over Tokyo are all original compositions within the band's repertoire. No other independent rock and roll band can claim such a legacy. Featuring the same lineup as 'Rocket Redux', the LP contains eleven new studio songs, produced by David Thomas at Suma. The band remains: David Thomas, Cheetah Chrome, Richard Lloyd, Craig Bell and Steve Mehlman. The two songs released as a 45rpm earlier this year by Smog Veil, 'I Sell Soul' and 'Romeo & Juliet', have been remixed and partially re-recorded."

Roedelius - Wasser Im Wind LP (Bureau B) [BB069LP] $16.00

Ryan Driver - Who's Breathing? LP (Fire) [FIRE181LP] $22.00
"Now Available in Vinyl! With his new album Who's Breathing?, Ryan showcases some of his new songs which, not unlike the drink that's named after him, are both eclectic and sweetly intoxicating. The first half is a top-heavy, bleary-eyed amble through the metaphysical country moves made familiar through his work in The Silt. Central to these songs is Ryan's heady, almost surrealist lyrics, which traipse commonplace folk themes on the slant and uneven ground of a funhouse. Here his way with a turn of phrase demonstrates its dexterity amid slinking caterpillar accompaniments (including a rest stop-style pedal steel and even an English horn pilfered from the AM waves). The second half assumes the mentalist lounge approach, that particular sound not unfamiliar to those who attend the monthly Ryan Driver Quartet appearances at the Tranzac bar in Toronto."

Saarid - Fever Dream 12 inch (Throne Of Blood) [THRONE016EP] $11.50
"Saarid wishes to promote peace through human understanding, not politics." Those words are literally etched into the vinyl of Saarid's debut single. Fusing '80s drum machines with '90s atmospherics, Saarid has crafted a sound that nonetheless feels like right now. "Fever Dream" and "Bad At Love" are clearly indebted to classic house and rave, but these are not your average retro re-treads. Cosmic Kids' "Sueno Fiebre" mix is suffused with summertime vibes, featuring a solo saxophone performed by Julio from Midnight Magic.

Sensational Meets Koyxen - Sensational Meets Koyxen LP (Skam) [SKALD027LP] $16.50

Serengeti - Family And Friends LP (Anticon) [ABR0111LP] $14.50

Skudge - First Observation 12 inch (Echocord) [ECHOCOL016EP] $11.50
Skudge present some different tracks for Echocord. On quick listen, their atmosphere, which they have been refining over time, is present, but it's delivered and hopefully received as a more calm but tense one. Over all, their First Observation EP is a first step into a second dimension. It also includes a deep and dubby, powerful remix by Conforce.

Skudge - Skudge Remixes Part 4 12 inch (Skudge Records) [SKUDGE004REP] $12.25
If you are going to run a remix series of any worth, then you better be coming with the goods. Skudge have done it again, with this beast of a 12". Berlin dub king, Substance fires off a huge side, overturning "Overture" brilliantly. October & Appleblim do it Bristol fashion with a gritty twist-up of the album track "Real Time." Tip!

Soft Encounters - Professional Seaman - One Sider 10 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF029] $10.50
Speaker-blown, tribal trance-noise from LUKE FASANO (YEASAYER, EX MODELS, FAMILY BAND, PEOPLE GET READY) and ZACH LEHRHOFF (KNYFE HYTS, Ex Models, THE SECONDS). One-sided 10-inch vinyl with B-side silkscreen by ELI LEHRHOFF. 300 copies.

Soft Healer - Grand Isle - One Sider 10 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF028] $10.50
SOFT HEALER lays down one of their longer, more mournful tracks with "Grand Isle," followed by a grooved-up take on the Zero Boys' "Civilization's Dying." Pressed on one-sided 10-inch vinyl with silkscreened B-side by DREW LIVERMAN. Edition of 300 copies.

Sun Araw - Houston Abstros 7 inch (Monofonus Press) [MF031] $8.25
Straight from the heart of the Astrodome: a conceptual broadcast of burnt orange power-pop, radiating with love for the homeland. First, the conspicuously un-stepped version of "Bump Up:" the original, pre-mangled, all shined up and dubless. Second, a cover of Teenage Fanclub's "December" set loose in SUN ARK for blissed wandering. Limited run of 300.

Suzanne Kraft - Green Flash 12 inch (Running Back) [RB027EP] $11.50
A boy named Suzanne. Travelling from Los Angeles to Portland and back to Los Angeles again, Suzanne Kraft's vinyl debut features four tracks of frenetic sunshine ecstasy. Chill rave, pill wave, hypno disco, Balearic beats or slow-motion house made by the careless youth of the U.S.-American West Coast? Call it what you want, at the end of the day or the night it's simply joyful music, made to make you happy. First 5,000 copies housed in a killer and tremendously flamboyant sleeve.

The Rebel - Five Year Plan LP (Monofonus Press) [MF035] $12.00
We couldn't be happier to present to the world a new release from one of our favorite recording artists OF ALL FUCKING TIME! BEN WALLERS aka THE REBEL is the main man behind COUNTRY TEASERS, and continues to amaze with the near constant flow of material out on a variety of labels including a 2007 release from Austin label Emperor Jones. Since playing in our garage in March of 2006 we've kept in contact (aka drunk g-chatting), and a couple months ago he was generous enough to send us 13 songs to choose from. We've selected our three favorites, and pressed them up proper on a 12_ EP titled The Five Year Plan. Full color everything.... label, jacket, and screen printed B Side. Looks/Sounds amazing. Fans of Ronnie O'Sullivan will be extra stoked. Limited to only 300 copies.

Thou - Archer And The Owle 12 inch (Robotic Empire) [ROBO080] $14.50
Recorded throughout the turn of the decade, The Archer and the Owle's triumphant, doom-laden sludge fury unfolds over the course of six massive tracks. Atypical heaviness to say the least, THOU's ultra-crushing sound is enhanced by unique and subtle elements: piano, atmospheric noise, horns, double bass and several re-envisioned cover songs for keen ears to decipher. Along with unreleased Summit-era material, this release contains the band's original half of the now-postponed split release with Pygmy Lush, which oddly inspired Thou to cover two tracks from their collaborators' latest work. Pressed on colored vinyl and housed in beautiful, spot-glossed, tip-on-style gatefold jackets.

Toddla T & Roots Manuva - Watch Me Dance 12 inch (Ninja Tune) [ZEN12286EP] $10.50
"This release does not simply feature Roots Manuva on vocals but is more a collaboration between the two producers. In fact, it was Rodney's original demo that inspired Toddla to mould it into this very version for his album, naturally with Rodney's stamp of approval. Continuing work on the demo resulted in Rodney's own version which will also appear as track two on the single package along with a wealth of remixes including one from Sebastian and the legend that is Andrew Weatherall. The Roots Manuva version will also feature on his fifth studio album, '4everevolution' later in the year. This unique release displays the different interpretations borne from the same demo and displays the mutual appreciation between these two highly respected and innovative UK artists."

Uffie - Pop The Glock 12 inch (Ed Banger Records) [BEC5772606] $12.25
2009 release. Uffie pops the glock! She is the spearhead of electro 2.0, and after years of spreading chaos with the club kids of the modern world, the princess of freestyle takes the next step by putting out her long-awaited first album. Pop The Glock is the first single from this album, with remixes by Mirwais Pop, Felix Da Housecat and Ellen Allien.

United Bible Studies & Jozef Van Wissem - Downland LP (Incunabulum) [INC012LP] $22.25
Dutch lutenist Jozef van Wissem is renowned for his experimental approach to Renaissance and Baroque forms of lute music. By cutting-and-pasting classical pieces, constructing palindromic melodies, or adding electronics and processed field recordings, he manages to seamlessly bridge the musical languages of the 17th and 21st centuries. If this approach seems coldly academic on paper, the results are anything but: his music is uncluttered and direct, with a viscerally hypnotic and emotional impact, and delivered with an ascetic intensity reflected both in his Biblical titles and his No Wave influences. He has collaborated with James Blackshaw, Smegma, Keiji Haino and Jim Jarmusch, amongst others. Mostly based in Ireland, the ever-shifting line-ups of United Bible Studies have spent the last decade roaming far and wide from their folk roots, exploring ecstatic group improvisation, song-craft, and studio-based prog epics. The album title Downland is a play both on van Wissem's Lowlands home, and the Renaissance lute composer John Dowland, rumored to have been born in Ireland. The seeds of this collaboration were sown in late 2007, when United Bible Studies were part of the bill for van Wissem's first Irish concert. He was particularly taken with Paul Condon's bass playing and eventually wrote a piece with this in mind, which became the ecstatic "Come Holy Ghost." Van Wissem began recording tracks for United Bible Studies to overdub and a postal collaboration began in earnest in 2009. The Bible Students were given a free hand, and different band members were drawn to different pieces. āine O'Dwyers' harp playing goes hand in glove with the lute parts, both players favoring hypnotic figures accruing impact over time. The album is bookended by two different versions of the same composition, "Downland" and "The Seas Have Lifted Up Their Voice." Propulsive and metronomic, with Beach Boys-inspired harmonies, it led UBS to a new way of working. Van Wissem's pieces were either stark and minimal, or had multi-layered harmonies which led UBS into less-than-familiar territory. The sparser pieces lent themselves to being shaped into songs, and the addition of extemporaneous textures. Van Wissem wrote the lyrics for "Altars Of Brick (The Day Is Coming)" for Alison O'Donnell to sing. Its ominous tone inspired Gavin Prior to write the tangentially-related "č Rith na h-Ä"iche" in Gaelic. O'Donnell did historical research for her courtly romance "Seven Tears," named after Dowland's famous song cycle. The Bible Students have woven murk and mystery around the lucid austerity of van Wissem's compositions, together creating an album which is unlike anything in either of their substantial back catalogs and more than the mere sum of its parts. United Bible Studies are: Paul Condon, Diarmuid MacDiarmada, Alison O'Donnell, āine O'Dwyer, Ivan Pawle and Gavin Prior.

VHS Head - Trademark Ribbons of Gold 2xLP (Skam) [SKALD025LP] $19.75

Warm Digits - Keep Warm... with the Warm Digits 2xLP (Distraction) [DIST22] $23.50
RELEASE DATE: 09-06-2011
The long-awaited debut album by krautophonic blizzard-wave duo Warm Digits (Andrew 'The Matinee Orchestra' Hodson and Steve 'Cathode' Jefferis). Together, they make a semi-improvised brew of metronomic rhythms, snowstorm guitar and radiophonic electronics (think Neu!, My Bloody Valentine and Emeralds with a hint of cosmic disco).

White Boy and The Average Rat Band - White Boy and The Average Rat Band LP (Roach) [MM11761LP] $19.75
"My eyes did a double take when I see this record perched in my mail trap (theys aint got no word here for box nears I can tell). Good lord I was happy, only cause Id been lookin for a copy since Robin Yount was a five figure Brewer. The writeup that Roach Records put togther kindve says it all, cept I aint got a damn clue whats Lamour is (or was) ors this Meanstreak theys reference. I guess Ill have to get to investigatinem! Wouldnt wanna miss out. Some nimble-toed piker once tried to tell me this was the same band as Mr. Ott & Jake Whip had but Id knowed that was a sack of shit n told him about it.He made a mess in his drawers what stunk up the bar to high heaven, but at least hes still around to deny it. The real word is the band aint but one feller & he hired them others on the front to look all tough. It sorta works. Takes me back to some dumbshits what tried to tangle w/yours truly in Parkersburg, WV in the early 80s. None ofem even seen the blade theys surrendered to, let alone feel it. Ah, youth, to be wasted so young. Feel free to quote me on that. So White Boy & The Average Rat Band.....hard to say exactly where theys (or he) was comin from but know this; when it wants to, this lp is as wild as a peach orchard hog. Theres also some screwy ballads goin on (Oriental Doctors, wow! Too bad Tommy Bolin aint around to here THAT one) + an outta nowhere acoustic number too. Locked into some current thats more metal than punk, it aint no joke, as funny as it may seem at times. In other words, Nig Heist it is not. Im hip to the Kenneth Higney reference too, and Michael Schenker. It woulda been cool if Kennyd aped Scorpions more than Cat Stevens, but he didnt & behold wes got both Attic Demonstration AND this here White Boy lp. Hows are any of us worse off for that? The best of both. Now if only that Higney lp would get rereleased...." - Roland Woodbe, Siltblog. Not related to White Boy on Doodley Squat. Highly recommended!"

Wim Wenders - Pina: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP (Wenders Music) [DG001LP] $16.00

Wooden Shjips - West LP (Thrill Jockey) [THR279LP] $15.50

Wormskull (aka Bong-Ra, Deformer and Balazs Pandi) - Sound Of Hell LP (Ad Noiseam) [ADN1441] $17.25

Allen Toussaint - The Wild Sound of New Orleans LP (Doxy) [DOY651LP] $22.25
"New Orleans native Allen Toussaint is one of the city's greatest living pianists and after over five decades on the city's music scene, he is still going strong! Born in 1938, he got his start playing at one of New Orleans' many night clubs and was soon signed to RCA where, on 29 January 1958 he took to the studio to record this album--with a line-up of local musicians that included two saxophones, guitar, bass and drums (although the names of these musicians is a subject of some debate). In 1963, a remake of the song 'Java' from this album became a huge hit for trumpet player Al Hirt. In fact, in the decades that followed, many of Toussaint's songs ('Working in a Coalmine,' 'Ride Your Pony,' 'Fortune Teller,' 'Mother-In-Law,' etc.) have become R&B standards, and Toussaint himself a living legend of New Orleans R&B."

Authorities - Puppy Love LP (Get Hip) [GH1042LP] $14.50
"Remastered reissue of the Get Hip-EV 1996 release in high-quality 180-gram vinyl. The Authorities explode with 14 fast, short ones on this album. Recorded in 1982 -1983 and sounding a bit like early Descendents without the juvenile or pop sensibilities, this Stockton, CA band falls into the punk rock vein as opposed to hardcore. The very popular Killed By Death series brought attention to some obscure punk bands that otherwise would have been totally ignored. One of these bands is the Authorities, a Californian early '80s punk combo. Their almost classic single 'I Hate Cops/Radiationmasturbation' was featured in Killed By Death Vol. 1 and created a great interest among punk collectors. Well, now a full length release is available for everybody to enjoy. The 14 tracks included here were recorded in 1982 and 1983 in Modesto, Ca. and Stockton, Ca."

Elmer Bernstein - The Man With The Golden Arm LP (Doxy) [DOY649LP] $22.25
"Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, Elmer Bernstein's original soundtrack to Otto Preminger's 1955 film, The Man With The Golden Arm, starring Frank Sinatra, Eleanor Parker and Kim Novak, became the first all-jazz soundtrack to be used in a major Hollywood movie. Bernstein's music was the perfect emotional match for Preminger's heroin-addict/jazz drummer anti-hero (played by Sinatra), and is considered one of the best scores of the era. It is also credited with effectively changing the sound of American cinema by opening the floodgates for jazz music in film and on television. Bernstein himself would go on to score over 200 films, including The Ten Commandments and To Kill A Mockingbird."

A reissue of the 1985 Italo Disco "The Years (Go By)" 12-inch from FRED VENTURA. Features the backing cut "Streets" (All Right)," along with alternate mixes. Richard Buckner - Our Blood [MRG339:r] Merge $13.25 ***Since 2006's Meadow, fans of RICHARD BUCKNER have been clamoring for new material and wondering what was keeping their hero from releasing the new songs he would perform on the road.

Freddie Hubbard - First Light LP (Cti Records) [CTI601€] $11.00
Gatefold exact repro, originally released in 1971. "Never one to take lyricism for granted, trumpeter and composer Freddie Hubbard entered Creed Taylor's studio for the third time in 1971 with the express purpose of making a record radically different from anything he'd cut before; he was looking for it to use electricity and to be out of the soul-jazz mold, but was also more ambitious and wanted to push that envelope and himself. Taylor and Hubbard assembled a band that included Herbie Hancock on Rhodes, guitarists Eric Gale and George Benson, bassist Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette on drums, Airto Moreira on percussion, and Richard Wyands on acoustic piano to back him." --All Music Guide

James Carr - A Man Needs A Woman LP (Goldwax Records) [GW3002LP] $11.00

King George Discovery - Peace Of Mind LP (Shadoks Music) [SHAD136LP] $38.50
"King George Discovery Peace Of Mind was recorded in Sweden in 1968 with the US musician King George Clemens on guitar & vocals. A close friendship to Jimi Hendrix, who toured also Sweden in 1968, dropped many tracks from the release plan when the band was recording an album which also came out that year. All tracks who where competing with the music of Jimi Hendrix was not released, until now. A collector from England found the unknown tracks who were pressed only as a demo LP for the band. What a great find. Some tracks where placed on YouTube and collectors where starting raving about this album. It is so good, the guitar work is amazing, as psychedelic as it can get. We could release this album in cooperation with King George Clemens and we are proud to have this treasure released on vinyl and later onto CD. It's just great! One of the most important release this year for sure!" Heavy sleeve. 180 gram pressing. 2 page inserts.

Louvin Brothers, The - Satan Is Real LP (Doxy) [DOY652LP] $22.25
"Taking their cue from the family singing groups of the 1930s, brothers Ira and Charlie Louvin updated this sound in the late forties and fifties to become one the greatest duos in the history of country music. Performing with the Grand Old Opry beginning in 1955 (where they stayed until 1963), this period marked the high point of their career. During this period they recorded numerous sides, and this 1958 album of pure gospel is one of their best, and also best-known due largely to the albums' over the top artwork and title. But although the albums' artwork is playful (in fact, the Brothers almost burned themselves setting it up), the message is heartfelt and you don't have to be a believer to appreciate the quality of the music contained within."

Michael and the Mumbles - Michael and the Mumbles LP (DeStijl) [IND074] $13.75
AVAILABLE AGAIN!!! Before MICHAEL YONKERS revised the history of recorded music with the clarion chords of Microminiature Love, he was in MICHAEL AND THE MUMBLES, who made this self-titled LP in 1966-a naive, teenage trip through garage band moves typical of the era at first glance, but repeated listening reveals a darkness beneath the crisp, winsome visage. Same characteristics that make Micro the singularly original piece that is (just slightly less visible is all): emotionally bleak themes, dissonant undercurrents, and recklessly wild performances. So, once again, a Michael Yonkers LP is going to turn the world upside down, make the college girls scream and leave you to wonder how many more times this can happen. Vinyl only, with a digital download coupon, made from 45-year-old master tapes that, aside from a glitch on "Cold Town," sound amazing.

Nervebreakers - We Want Everything LP (Get Hip) [GH1032LP] $13.75
"Killer Dallas, Texas punk band! Vocals by T.Tex Edwards and featuring the hit 'My Girlfriend Is a Rock' and many others catchy punk anthems. The legendary Nervebreakers opened for the Sex Pistols in '78. They released their EP 'My Girlfriend is a Rock' shortly after. Two more singles followed and then they recorded an album that should have crowned their glory. But it did not come out on LP until 1994 and is now out-of-print! So here's your chance to discover one of the greatest Texas punk bands ever!"

Its opening track, 'The Circle with the Hole in the Middle,' from 1959, with the classic quartet of Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell, and Charlie Haden, is one of Coleman's recognizable pieces of music." -- All Music Guide

Peacepipe - Peacepipe LP (Shadoks Music) [SHAD029LP] $38.50
"In 1995 Rockadelic has released this album on vinyl. Finally here it is with all extra tracks, photos etc. on LP again. Extra heavy psych, great guitars and vocals. This unreleased late 1960s heavy guitar-psych classic is probably (along with Cold Sun), also a previous Rockadelic LP, with widest appeal among mainstream psych fans. Despite being just 3 guys with no bass player, a dense wall of hard psychedelia is erected with moments as intense as Fraction. The opening 'Sea of nightmares' is one of the best heavy psych tracks ever laid down, while cool remnants of teen garage and lounge/schmaltz add to the LP's underground appeal. Powerful, non-macho vocals and Jon Uzonyi's triple-tracked feedback guitars makes this blow away 20th Century Zoo, Savage Resurrection, Dragonfly, etc., stunning and solid." 500 numbered. Heavy sleeve. 180 gram pressing. 2 page inserts.

Quinteplus - Quinteplus 2xLP (Vampisoul) [VAMPI094LP] $24.00
2LP version. 2007 release. Founded after the "New Jazz Collective" movement in Argentina in the late '60s, Quinteplus was a space for reflection and rehearsal to determine the paths that jazz should take. An experiment with folk genres in a jazz key, and the exploration of African rhythms, as a bridge between both musical worlds. This set contains the only studio album they ever released (in 1972) and a great bonus: a complete live recording of a gig from the same year, unreleased until now. The record is a sophisticated exhibition of the musical cocktail that characterized the band -- tunes composed by its members, fluent jazz language, experimentation with folk rhythms, funky touches by the amplified upright bass and electric piano, compact sound and great solos by the group's brass players. The music sounds fresh, attractive, unprejudiced and dexterously played. A work ahead of their time.

Shin Joong Hyun - Beautiful Rivers And Mountains: The Psychedelic Rock Sound Of South Korea's Shin Joong Hyun 1958-1974 2xLP (Light In The Attic) [LITA0651] $21.25
